00:00Oh, baby.
00:02Free agency really is happening as a couple of the opponents that the Texans are set to see next year
00:10have made moves leading up to today.
00:12We talked about the Bills, making sure that they had their center locked in in Conor McGovern.
00:16They gave him an extension this weekend.
00:18The Packers actually have made some trades out.
00:21Rashawn Gary goes to the Cowboys, who we'll see as well, because we have the NFC East.
00:26So the Cowboys, who will have another edge rusher.
00:29Funny enough, have they ever traded edge rushers with the Packers?
00:32Has that ever happened before?
00:33Let me think about that.
00:35So some of those things were happening.
00:37Obviously, the Colts bring back Alec Pierce today.
00:40116, I think, is the number that I've seen.
00:42114, both of those reports, but over a four-year period.
00:45Definitely took less, supposedly, than a couple of other, three other places that were in on the bidding in order
00:51to remain with the Colts.
00:52So you'll have that continued deep threat against the Colts.
00:57Rather, I kind of let the cat out of the bag here.
01:00But one of the teams that, thankfully, you will not see somehow, because it feels like over the last three
01:05or four years you've seen them every damn year,
01:07has made probably the biggest splash to this point in the legal tampering period of the 28 minutes that we've
01:14had it.
01:15It is the Kansas City Chiefs who, according to many reports, have agreed to terms with Kenneth Walker III, Super
01:23Bowl MVP running back who was just recently playing with the Seattle Seahawks.
01:27And they address one of their biggest, if not their biggest, because they still need to figure out what they're
01:32doing quarterback-wise.
01:33But one of their biggest needs, especially one that has been pervasive during the tenure of Patrick Mahomes as quarterback
01:39up there.
01:39Shouldn't bother me, but does bother me.
01:41Texans are sitting here with David Montgomery, which we all, you know, who we all feel is going to be,
01:45you know, really good, if not great, for this squad.
01:48But still, you know, the Chiefs getting Kenneth Walker.
01:50They got KD, but we got Jaden Medanus.
01:53That's right.
01:54I don't know why.
01:55And it's just because it's the Chiefs.
01:57Because, you know, obviously Super Bowl MVP, we all saw what he did.
02:02Does this bother you as much as it does me?
02:04Because it shouldn't.
02:04Yes.
02:05You know, we've got David Montgomery, you know, Texans are still waiting to make some big moves here.
02:09That part, it bothered me that nobody else wanted to overpay him to go to a sorry team.
02:15It had to be the Chiefs.
02:16Well, it's free agency.
02:19Agency is the operative word here.
02:21I have a feeling that if you're Kenneth Walker, just winning a Super Bowl, and you look at the Kansas
02:25City Chiefs and how they are perpetually built, and you go, I could do this again.
02:29Yes.
02:29Yes.
02:29I could definitely do this again.
02:31I just thought it would be a team in last place with a whole bunch of money that's just like,
02:35you know what, let's give you a record-breaking contract for a running back.
02:38See what happens.
02:39And we haven't seen what the number is.
02:40Maybe the Kansas City Chiefs were ultimately the team that did record-breaking type things.
02:44This is notable because, according to Mina Kimes, I'm seeing, the Chiefs running backs over the last two years have
02:50run for like an explosive run, 10-plus yards.
02:52Less than 9% of the times, which is 31st amongst 32 teams, last season alone, Kenneth Walker had the
02:59third-highest 10-plus-yard rush rate of any running back.
03:03So this is the possibility for home run hits with Kenneth Walker while still maintaining the physicality and the battering
03:10ram nature.
03:11That is scary because over the last handful of seasons, that offense in Kansas City has been so predicated on
03:18Patrick Mahomes making a little something out of nothing with the wide receiving core that wasn't all that good.
03:23If dudes are healthy, the likes of Rashi Rice and so on and so forth, and bringing back Travis Kelsey
03:28with a running game, oh boy, that could be problematic in that this year we were looking at it and
03:33we were looking at the top of the AFC and going, nobody's there.
03:36It's empty. It's empty. You see the Baltimore Ravens go and make their defense better.
03:40That's where I am with this.
03:41You see the Kansas City Chiefs make their rush game better, and that's why we are looking so heavily at
03:45what Nick Asario does.
03:47To this point, it's been good in answering some of the questions with the offensive line, but it's got to
03:52get stronger with the offensive line starting today probably.
03:56Look, it's probably the best running back Patrick Mahomes has ever had, wouldn't you say?
04:02Ever? Am I missing anybody?
04:05It might be.
04:05I was about to say, you had a prime Kareem Hunt at one point.
04:09That would be one, but...
04:11Rookie year Kareem Hunt was a problem.
04:14Yes.
04:15But probably so, yeah. I would probably say up to date right now, I'd probably say yes.
04:19So that's part of the reason it ticks me off.
04:21But to your point, Reggie, this is the thing.
04:23I mean, it's not as if the Texans are not formulating a plan to take their big swings wherever it
04:29may be we think offensive line.
04:30But if they weren't before, you know, the AFC is sending a very big message.
04:35I mean, there are so many teams.
04:37Hell, the Patriots are making moves here.
04:40You know, nothing major so far, but certainly the Bills, the Chiefs, the Ravens.
04:45At the top of the AFC, there's a lot of moving.
04:48And the thing about the Chiefs, they still got two first-round picks.
04:51They do.
04:52Nine and 29.
04:54They got nine.
04:54Oh, no, not 29, because they trade, remember?
04:56Oh, no, yeah.
04:58That's what they gave up the corner for.
04:59So I don't know what they're going to do with the ninth pick.
05:02I thought they was going to go for Jordan Love.
05:05Jeremiah Love.
05:06Jeremiah Love.
05:07You did what I do.
05:08Yeah, yeah.
05:08I thought maybe they was going to go for him.
05:10Maybe they still can.
05:11And Sho was cautioning us against that, that they probably wouldn't go for Jeremiah Love.
05:16But, yeah, especially.
05:17I mean, I don't think so now.
05:18It's also very uncomfortable because it does seem like the ties between the possibility of Jeremiah Love and the Titans
05:23are very strong.
05:23They're possibly at four.
05:25So you might also see some Jeremiah Love a couple of times a year if you're the Houston Texans.
05:29I'm just really curious who they're going to look at.
05:32Are they going to try to get a weapon?
05:34Or are they maybe trying to get somebody on the O-line?
05:36I wonder where their mindset is.
05:39Well, they need a cornerback.
05:40You know, a number nine overall.
05:42We'll see.
05:43But, yeah.
05:44They've been pretty good finding cornerbacks, though.
05:47They have been.
05:48I think I heard Ron talking about that, too.
05:50They know them for letting corners walk.
05:52Or they've just given up on corners and getting another one.
05:55Yes.
05:55And Diana Russini about a half hour ago said that the Travis Kelsey thing, while he is exploring the market
06:00with other teams, they are working on getting him back to Kansas City, which this only stands to reason.
06:06You can't go nowhere else, man.
06:07Yeah, this only stands to reason even more.
06:08Yeah.
06:09Honestly, one of the things that they're working on, and the only reason I mention this is because it also
06:13kind of ties in with one of the things that the Texans have as a secondary thing.
06:17They need to have a big blocking tight end as well because Travis Kelsey is, in effect, a big wide
06:25receiver.
06:26Yeah.
06:26I think that's one of the things that the low-key things that I think the Texans probably look at,
06:30but that doesn't feel like a today.
06:31Today feels like big-ticket-item kind of look.
06:36Do you feel confident that the Texans are going to do something big and aggressive when it comes to this
06:44free agency?
06:45And I guess secondarily, do you think that happens today, or do you think that they take their time with
06:49this and they make sure that they really strike?
06:50Because it feels like at least some of the deals that they've made have been very cautious—well, not cautious, but
06:55very pointed, very thoughtful, while also still making sure that you make a good move.
07:02You look at, obviously, Ed Ingram, the right guard, he gets signed to a deal that feels like it's a
07:08very, very good number, even though you're bringing back a guy who has continuity and that was one of the
07:13probably best guards, especially for the scheme that you want to run in the running game, out there.
07:18I do feel confident that they're going to make a big swing, not just because of what other teams are
07:24doing, but because of the need they have.
07:25And I also do feel pretty confident that we'll hear some things today at some point or very, very soon,
07:31simply because the market is dictating it.
07:34Like, there are other teams, you know, if they don't make their counteroffers or their offers as soon as possible,
07:41it's not like last year where they can play in the margins.
07:43You know, the big-ticket items on the line are the ones that are going to be going first.
07:46So, yes.
07:47I have a real question as to how quickly the center market comes around, because that's one of the things
07:52that we're hoping that the Texans go again.
07:54And it feels like Cade Myers is really where the eyes, Maze, rather, and then may change his name, is
07:59really where our eyes are trained.
08:01With the number of teams that could possibly be in on Cade Maze, I wonder if this is one of
08:06those things that even has a possibility of getting done quickly, if this is one of those things that will
08:10take a little time.
08:11Or maybe that's the reason it'll get done quickly.
08:13Hey, you know, these offers are coming in.
08:14Right.
08:15These offers are coming in.
08:16What do you think?
08:17So-and-so just offered us, you know, this $13-whatever-million-dollar-a-year contract.
08:22No, I think that's part of the reason it will happen.
08:25Obviously, stay plugged in, because things are happening quickly here.
08:29But I do think the Texans are going to be in a position where they have to make the bigger
08:34moves sooner rather than later.
08:35Things are trickling in a little bit.
08:37The big news to this point, Alec Pierce remains with the Colts on something like $28.5 million average annual
08:45value.
08:46One of the things is, and I know we mentioned this earlier, the possibility of Nico Collins has not had
08:54his deal restructured, which you could definitely generate some money, some cap money there.
09:00Is there a reason why?
09:01And is it possible at all in your mind that that could be a place for an extension as opposed
09:06to a restructure, especially with the wide receiver market continuing to tick up?
09:10And Nico Collins on that very, very favorable deal.
09:12Maybe that's the hiccup, you know, it's extension talk that's going on right now, but you do have to fit
09:17it in.
09:18You know, Figgy mentioned it earlier.
09:19You do have to fit it in to be able to have that money to spend.
09:22The restructure might be the easy route, but look at what Alec Pierce just got.
09:26You know, that's getting people's attention, no one more than Nico.
09:29Yeah, I wonder if the Houston Texans, are they trying to get this done, or is it Nico trying to
09:34fill it out a little bit?
09:35I think it's yes.
09:37Because if I'm Nico, I'm going to wait a little bit.
09:39If I want to get more money, I will probably try to hold off a little bit.
09:43We have the terms on Kenneth Walker now.
09:46Yes.
09:46Three years, $45 million contract.
09:49Ooh, baby.
09:50What's the guarantee?
09:51Have you seen that yet?
09:5228.7, so almost $29 million in guarantee for him.
09:59So basically the first two years of that essentially are guaranteed in a very rough way of accounting.
10:05That's a healthy price.
10:06Yeah, $14 million and change.
10:08$15 million.
10:09Average annual value is basically what you're looking at there.
10:12Yeah, that was big money.
10:13That was well above what you were looking at.
10:15If the Texans had not made it.
10:16I think at $13 million, right?
10:17Yeah, you were like, you know, $12 million, $13 million, I might get into that range.
10:20If the Texans had not gone out and been aggressive in getting David Montgomery, that is the market that you
10:26were talking about for a dude that you wanted.
10:28Well, maybe they knew that was the market.
10:29Yeah, 100% they knew that.
10:31I know he didn't make any calls until 11 o'clock today, but maybe they knew that.
10:35That makes you more comfortable with the deal.
10:36Yeah.
10:37Even more so.
10:37Well, that's what I'm saying.
10:38Like, I feel really good about David Montgomery here.
10:40It just ticks me off that the Chiefs are doing this.
10:44Oh, boy.
