00:00Do you think D'Amico Ryan's, the head coach, is getting too much of a pass for these offensive
00:04issues? Because you talked about it yesterday. There's a list of, hey, you know, quarterbacks
00:1226 years or younger, and of them, the top five that have the best chance to win the Super Bowl,
00:19and we know how everyone feels about the Texans' defense, but for some odd reason,
00:24C.J. Stroud didn't make that list because of how they feel about this offense in C.J. Stroud,
00:30but I think it's the offense as a whole, as we discussed yesterday. We have talked about
00:35everyone, even the people like a Jeremy Fowler, who I believe needs to be stopped, or a Nate Tice,
00:41who's lost his mind, look at this team and think this team can be a Super Bowl contender,
00:47but also, on the other hand, express their concerns if the offense can just be average,
00:54if the running game could just be a little bit close to average. Nate Tice said if the
00:59offensive line can go from being ish to not ish, is what he said. Like, even though those guys are
01:09the Texans believe that the offense is a problem or an issue, and we've discussed a lot, and I think
01:16you hinted towards this a little bit, so I think it's a conversation, 713-572-4610. Phone lines are open.
01:22Tyler, we'll take care of you. We'll get you in. You can talk amongst it on YouTube and Twitch as
01:27well. Do you think D'Amico is getting a pass in this if we're not talking about him as much?
01:35Absolutely he is. Absolutely he is. The minute he was hired, I have folks all stirred up around here
01:44because the first thing I said was, well, he better get the offensive coordinator right,
01:51and he's yet to get the offensive coordinator right. Now, we'll see what Nick Kaley does,
01:54but he's yet to get the offensive coordinator right. Yeah, look, I think obviously the headline
02:00story for the Houston Texans right now is CJ Stroud because he's the quarterback, and the
02:04quarterbacks don't get too much credit when things are good, and he's going to get too much credit when
02:08things are bad. That's just the way the cookie crumbles when you're playing quarterback at any level,
02:12but damn sure at the NFL level. But as I've said many a times, you can't give that general
02:17manager a pass. He ain't been able to fix that offensive line. He hadn't given CJ what CJ needs
02:22to cook, right? And you damn sure can't give the defensive-minded head coach a pass because
02:28he's the one that hired Bobby Slowick, and he's the one that fired Bobby Slowick. He's the one that
02:32then turned around and handed the reins, though, because he's the most powerful guy in that building.
02:35He turned around and handed the reins on the offensive side of this thing to Nick Casario,
02:40and Nick Casario went out and hired more New England Patriot disciples, if you will.
02:49And there's a chance that that may not work. There's a good chance that it may take more
02:53than a couple of years for the quarterback to take to that system. And so, yeah, I mean,
02:58yeah, absolutely. I think we've said it before, Ron. Look, I think one of the biggest stories in all
03:04of the NFL, the closer we get to the season is going to be CJ Stroud and the Texans, whether
03:09we're talking about the contract or the lack thereof, or we're talking about the poor play
03:13in the playoffs versus can he figure things out, right? I think that's going to be one
03:18of the biggest stories. But the minute you get through talking about that story, it needs
03:23to shift to the general manager and the head coach. Are these guys going to be able to figure
03:27out the damn offensive side of this thing? Is their offensive decisions going to cost
03:32the Houston Texans a chance to make a run at a Super Bowl and possibly win one?
03:36It doesn't seem to shift over to the head coach as much.
03:39Oh, no, no. You know what I mean? The honeymoon's over, but he still looks good.
03:44Yeah, it doesn't, like from the people we talk to every day, fans, our listeners, people text
03:50in, social media, even from an app to a national standpoint. I think it slides over to CJ, definitely.
03:59I think it slides over to the offensive linemen that have been here. I think it, at some
04:05point, slides over to Nick with certain people.
04:08Casario, you're talking about, right?
04:09Yeah.
04:09And Kaylee. I think it, both Nicks, both Nicks sees. I think one of them should have to
04:16go by Nicholas. I just, I really do. Anyway, but frankly, and I know
04:20Nicholas Kaylee. One already does go by Kales, man.
04:23All right, Kales. But it doesn't seem to slide over
04:28to the, in a way that it slid over to Mike Tomlin
04:33and the way that it is slid over to, to, to, to Tony Dungy.
04:38How about old buddy in Buffalo?
04:40The way it slid over to, yeah, to Sean McDermott. It doesn't, it doesn't seem to, to, to made
04:46its way as much over there. And to kind of push your point, and we'll get to some of
04:51your, your thoughts here. And I see people texting in as well. We'll get to you here in
04:56a bit, preacher.
04:56Um, whatever happened in year two with Bobby Sloick, whatever happened, because I will,
05:08I will, I will, I will, I will stand on the hill. I'm not dying, but I will stand on
05:14this
05:14hill top of it on the top of the damn thing. Ten toes down. I will stand on the hill
05:20and to
05:22the, whatever happened, it is a shame before God that it resulted into, Hey man, we couldn't
05:30figure this out because the combination of Bobby and CJ and this offense was that dude
05:39who I'm looking at Brandon Scott, the back of his head, Brandon Scott had him as an elite
05:43quarterback. After the first year, we would argue off air. We would do segments off air
05:49about it. And he's not, not alone. Greg Jennings had him as a, as the MVP of the league going
05:55into year two and the Texas in the super bowl. It had us all believing, Whoa, we feel like
06:02we got a dude that's going to be able to compete with the Mahomes is with the islands. Hell
06:07we watched Steve out. We watched him outplay the burrows on the road, whatever happened in
06:13year two, that should have been worked out. It should not have resulted. And I don't
06:19know. I don't know. You hear things, but I don't know what's happened. It seemed like
06:24there was something behind the closed doors on how many cooks there was in the kitchen
06:28and who was running stuff. And if people were working against pulling the same rope, I don't
06:33care. That should have been worked out. And the person who should have been the one to
06:39work that out is D'Amico Ryan's the head coach. Hell you brought him here. You've got a relationship
06:46with Bobby. You should have been the one to figure out how that, how we can work that
06:51out. So that didn't just end in two years. And then, as you said, you then hit the emergency
06:59break and said, hell man, let's just go and just shift this thing all the way to a completely
07:03different offense. And whether it was you or Nick Casario making the decision, you, you
07:10empowered Nick to go ahead and change all of this around. You empowered him to bring
07:16in an offensive coordinator who had already had his coaching staff hired for him before
07:21he got here. You and you empowered them to have a quarterback coach working with your
07:26quarterback who doesn't know the system. That's learning the system at the same time. When
07:32you know your OC is somebody who's worked with tight ends and not quarterbacks. He has,
07:36as you said, the power to have, to have stopped all of that. If he did not want the system
07:43to be this system, he would, he has the power to have said, no, we're going to. So yeah,
07:50I think all of that falls to him. The Bobby Sloan thing, the, the, the, the fact that that
07:57got so bad that we couldn't get another year out of it. We couldn't just test it one more
08:01year because we saw the fact that whatever happened behind closed doors got that bad and they
08:06couldn't figure that out is insane. And, and, and, and that that's got to come. I don't care if
08:11you run the offense or the defense, but Tyler brought up a good point in prep earlier. He said,
08:16because that defense is so good and that's his baby. Like a lot of people kind of maybe overlook.
08:22Those are my babies. That's pretty good. Overlook, you know, his role in this. He's the
08:29head coach. He ain't just a defensive coach. Hell, he stopped calling a place. He's the head coach.
08:35So yeah, I, I definitely think. Well, hell, I mean, look, look, you look at it. I mean,
08:40and right, rightfully so. But if you look at, I mean, Nick Sirianni has been to two Super Bowls
08:45and won one of them and he's catching hell because he can't get an offensive coordinator to stay there.
08:49You know what I mean? I mean, so, so why, so, so why does, why would a guy that's been
08:54to the
08:54playoff three straight years and his offense keeps messing the bed and it ultimately isn't good enough
08:58to get beyond the second round? Why, why should he get a pass? So yeah, look, I think it's just
09:03a matter of time. If they don't break through, it's just a matter of time. The truth of the
09:08matter is D'Amico Rhines is a great football coach, a great head coach. He's a great defensive
09:13mind. But, but when you're talking about going from great to, to championship caliber competing
09:20for championships, it's things like get the quarterback, right? Build around the quarterback,
09:25get the play caller, right? You know what I mean? He'll fix the offensive line, right? Forget the
09:32run the ball thing. That's, I mean, running the ball from year to year is a tough thing to do
09:37for a lot
09:38of, for 95% of football teams, right? You know, putting together a productive offense to where you're
09:45not literally the laughingstock. I mean, that's, that's aggressive. I mean, literally not just a
09:51mess. That's not hard to do. So look, I think it's just a matter of time. If they don't break
09:56through at some point, you know, D'Amico, he'll, he'll catch a little hell over this offensive
10:00situation. 7, 1, 3, 5, 7, 2, 4, 6, 10, Revin KJ started off. What you, what you got preacher?
10:06You
10:06think he is, he is, uh, he is getting a pass for the offensive issues. First and foremost, let's state
10:14the
10:14obvious, man. You guys are the best station and best show to the third coast. Congrats on the move
10:20in August, man. You guys put in the work. You earned it. Uh, shout out to a show, man. Michael
10:26Jordan's still the GOAT. And, uh, I'm sitting in the car right now, but on some Crown Royal to
10:31listen to y'all. Real quick. So I agree with you. Take 100%. I'm going to go conspiracy theory real
10:39quick. I wonder when, when, when, uh, CJ's rookie year, when he had that phenomenal rookie
10:44year, it's, I don't think it's no coincidence that the following year, when you had a, because
10:50it was a rookie year, the best running back was single tier. Stop it, but not, nobody game
10:55playing it for Devin single tier. You had a good joke mixing and CJ's play went down.
11:00I wonder if some of that behind the screen head buffing was Bobby Sloan trying to take
11:06a stance and show him, Hey, look, I just want to hear what this office can do. Don't dummy
11:11it down. I wonder if legitimately Sloan getting run out of here and Nick Taylor being put here
11:17as more or less a placeholder. Is there a way of trying to dictate what happens on the
11:21offense? And, uh, Clint, I know you can agree with this last point and I'm going to let you
11:25guys have it. This is something that baffles the hell out of me every damn Sunday. One of
11:32the biggest benefits the NFL quarterback has when he comes out of that huddle is being able
11:37to look over the defense and see what blitz is coming from. See what, see what alignment
11:41the defense is in. See what the defensive strategy is. We are still squabbling about plays getting
11:47called so damn late that by the time CJ gets out of the huddle, he got three or four seconds
11:52to snap the ball. So you taking his biggest advantage away from him, being able to get
11:56his pre-snap reads. If a quarterback doesn't have a consistent pre-snap read, he's not going
12:02to be able to consistently get in the rhythm because he can't analyze the defense. To me,
12:06that's an offensive, that's a head coaching issue. We can say Nick Taylor, we can say Nick
12:10Casario, but at the end of the day, heavy is the head that wears the crown and D'Amico
12:15Ryan wears that crown. So that's on D'Amico Ryan. That's all I got for you fellas. I'm
12:19going to sit back and listen to D'Amico. All right, Kevin KJ, you'll get too crazy
12:23with that crown though, but go ahead. No, look, I love it. I mean, it's the points
12:29that he's hitting on are all very valid, valid points. There should be topics of conversation
12:33are great points. The biggest one is, I mean, CJ Stroud has been in his league and we're
12:38referring to his third year and had a lot of success. We should not be talking about the
12:46things that we hear about in the last, even the year before. And you, you, people that
12:51listen to the show heard me get frustrated with it. When every time you talk about, ask
12:55about the offense, oh, technique, mechanics, execution, right? Oh man, you know, breaking
13:00the huddle on time. What the hell are we talking about? We got really good high schools. I mean,
13:04we got really good high schools in the state of Texas. A couple of them right down the street.
13:10Damn play clock ain't never a problem for them. Yeah. You know what I mean? It's just like,
13:15that, that can't be continue to be a problem. And if it is again, to, to Rev's point right
13:20there, it's gotta be, it's gotta be solved. And we just, we're not going, we're not going
13:25any further in practice until we get this point figured out. I don't care if we're gonna do
13:28it a week. We're not going any further.
