00:01Two TikTok videos featuring a speech by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin took center stage on the first day of the
00:07former Prime Minister's Jana Wibawa graft trial at the High Court in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
00:13The videos, one audio only, and the other with visuals, were played in court before Justice Noor Ruwena Madnurdin.
00:22In the recordings, the Pago MP was heard saying that he had been accused of bribery but that none of
00:29the money had gone into his personal pocket.
00:32Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission MACC officer Mohamed Shawaludin Saeed testified that he was instructed to examine the videos,
00:41which were uploaded by TikTok users Putrishantec on January 16, 2025 and Wanhadi 21 on July 26, 2025.
00:53He downloaded and recorded the clips onto a pen drive labelled T-S-M-Y, Asal.
01:00When questioned by Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Nur Imanwan Mohamed Afsal,
01:05the witness said he believed the voice in the videos belonged to Muhyiddin as he was familiar with the former
01:11Prime Minister,
01:12who served between 2020 and 2021.
01:16During cross-examination by defence lawyer Datuk Amir Hamza Arshad,
01:21the witness admitted he had not investigated who inserted the captions, geolocation tags or hashtags in the videos.
01:29He also acknowledged that he could not confirm whether the videos were generated using artificial intelligence, AI,
01:37and disagreed with the suggestion that TikTok content could not be considered credible evidence.
01:43Amir later argued that the prosecution had not established the relevance of the videos.
01:48At the moment, they have not even established the relevancy of the said TikTok video.
01:54Clearly, what had been established through cross-examination, that the video had been edited,
02:01doctored, and despite that, the witness admitted that, yes,
02:05they decided to use it as part of their investigation and part of their case.
02:09Honestly, the video, the recording is totally of no value whatsoever.
02:13I think it is a sad day if we have to start relying on TikTok contents as part of your
02:21evidence.
02:22So it is a sad day as far as we're concerned, when you can't rely on credible evidence,
02:27but instead it resorted to contents from TikTok.
02:32The hearing continues before Justice Noor Rowena on Tuesday.
02:36Muhyiddin, 78, faces four charges of abusing his position as Prime Minister and Bersatu President,
02:43to obtain 225.3 million ringgit in bribes linked to the Jana Wibawa project
02:50and three charges of receiving 200 million ringgit in proceeds from illegal activities
02:55allegedly deposited into Bersatu's accounts between February 2021 and July 2022.
