00:00This is one of these stories that's going to take me hours later this afternoon to talk about,
00:04and it's one of the issues I have and had with Frank Reich becoming the offensive coordinator
00:09of the New York Jets. I like Frank. He's a nice man, for sure. He's had some successes
00:15in the NFL, most notably in Philadelphia, when Carson Wentz was on his way to a most likely
00:21MVP season before he got hurt, and then, of course, wins the Super Bowl anyway with Nick Foles,
00:26very reminiscent of the Giants' first Super Bowl title when Jeff Hosteller replaced
00:32the injured Phil Simms, and they found a way to beat the Buffalo Bills in that Super Bowl, right?
00:36So, all good. Then, of course, he goes to Indy. He's got Andrew Luck. Things look up,
00:41and Andrew Luck decides, I don't want to play football anymore, and then after that,
00:45Frank Reich became a bit of a journeyman, to be fair, as a coach went to Stanford, etc., etc.
00:50Well, Connor Hughes, the very well-thought-of New York Jets reporter for SNY,
00:56regional network here in New York, put out a doozy today, and it's something I said when
01:02the Jets hired Frank Reich that I was actually concerned about, and that is,
01:07who's the veteran quarterback the Jets are going to bring in? Now, I've heard crazy rumors like
01:12two is a guy they like. I don't happen to believe that, and there's also the thought process that
01:18if the New York Jets will eat two a salary this year, that Miami would actually give them their
01:23first-round draft pick to do it. I don't like that deal, but it's out there, okay?
01:27Yeah, I also don't fully buy it.
01:29Yeah, Kyler Murray, another guy, because he's getting so much money from the Cardinals that
01:34the Jets could pay him literally a million dollars and be their quarterback. Very similar to how
01:38Pittsburgh got Russell Wilson.
01:39Yes.
01:39Right, so you get a guy that's being paid buku bucks from a different franchise.
01:43You pay him the minimum, because that's all you have to pay him to play for you.
01:47But Minnesota appears the favorite right now for Kyler Murray.
01:51For Kyler Murray?
01:51For Kyler Murray.
01:52All right, great. All good. Here's the problem. The report today is that the New York Jets have
01:58an interest in Wentz.
02:02That's right.
02:03In Wentz.
02:03Carson Wentz, baby.
02:04In your guy.
02:05That's right.
02:05Carson Wentz was last seen playing with one arm for the Minnesota Vikings late last season.
02:12Literally, I'm not even exaggerating.
02:13That's not a joke.
02:13He had one arm and couldn't throw a football, and they didn't take him out of the game.
02:19All right, so I have great respect for Carson Wentz.
02:21He's physically tough, for sure.
02:23He gets hurt a lot.
02:23Yeah.
02:24He comes back.
02:25He's a tough guy.
02:26Tough guy.
02:26He did have a near-MVP season, although that's like 10 years ago now.
02:31Yeah.
02:31And I know he's a competent veteran quarterback who obviously knows Frank Reich's system,
02:37but I can tell you this on behalf of Jet fans.
02:39This was the concern in hiring Frank Reich, that he's not going to make us better.
02:45He's going to bring in an old head like Carson Wentz and go through the motions, thinking
02:51that once again, he can make Carson Wentz a great quarterback.
02:55Carson Wentz has not been a good quarterback in a long, long time.
02:59I know he's competent.
03:00I know he understands the offense.
03:02I know when his arm's not dangling from his body, he actually can throw a football.
03:07So I'm not taking any of those immeasurables away from him.
03:12But Carson Wentz is no longer a starting quarterback in the NFL.
03:17Carson Wentz is the type of guy you want when you have a rookie quarterback or a young, inexperienced
03:23quarterback, and to have a good guy on the sideline to be a mentor to him.
03:28Right.
03:28I think he'd be great at that.
03:30The other problem I have with Frank Reich and Carson Wentz reuniting is what happened
03:35in Indianapolis when they were together.
03:38They are both very religious men.
03:41And there's nothing wrong with that at all.
03:43That is not a knock.
03:44But the NFL locker room, unfortunately for some of you, is not the place for a preacher
03:51to be.
03:52And they are both preachers.
03:54They both talk about their religious beliefs to everybody and anybody that wants to hear
04:00them.
04:01And that was the knock on them, both in Philadelphia and then again in Indianapolis.
04:06That, guys, we respect your religious beliefs.
04:09I'm a God-fearing man, but I don't, you know, sell you on my religious beliefs every minute
04:16of the day.
04:16And that's not why you don't bring a guy in, obviously.
04:19But it didn't work.
04:21It hasn't worked.
04:22And as a Jet fan, I would much rather pay Kyler Murray a million dollars on a flyer that
04:29maybe you rediscover your passion for football and you become my franchise quarterback than
04:34I want Carson Wentz at 36, seven years old, whatever it is, being my starting quarterback.
04:41.
04:41.
04:41.
04:41.
04:42.
