00:00It might have been the Super Bowl.
00:04You know, here's to it.
00:05You don't have to love it.
00:06I don't.
00:07But we all hope it works.
00:10He's good.
00:12He shouldn't be too old.
00:15We just have six months to talk about it.
00:17And I think the price the Bills paid is insane.
00:20Pretty much.
00:22803-0550.
00:23Travis Yost in an hour.
00:24Travis is maybe my single favorite hockey analyst.
00:28And he's also a Bills fan.
00:30And I don't know what it tells us about what it's going to sound like in an hour.
00:34But he just sent me a list of Bills-Panthers connections.
00:39And it's 49 people long.
00:42Did Travis, like, compile that?
00:44Holy cow.
00:46Starting with McDermott and Bean.
00:48There's a Captain Munnerlin sighting.
00:52I know we all joke about it, but 49 people does feel insane.
00:55And it has been almost a decade, but Jeremy's tweet was, Bills trade for someone they know.
01:03Well, he's going to be from Carolina.
01:04He's right.
01:06Here's Steve next.
01:07Hi, Steve.
01:09What's going on?
01:10Good afternoon.
01:11Hi.
01:11So, I've just been listening to what you're saying.
01:13The more I think about, the more I come around about the trade, they need a receiver.
01:17But let me ask you this.
01:18Say they make this trade for Jalen Waddle for the second round.
01:22Would you be, would you feel differently?
01:24Probably.
01:25Younger, better, out of my division?
01:28Probably.
01:28I don't know the money.
01:30Would you?
01:30So, when you say, so he don't, personally, DJ's just a year older, or a year and a half
01:39older than Waddle.
01:40Yeah.
01:40And he's more productive.
01:42He hasn't missed a game.
01:43I mean, Waddle's missed how many games?
01:46You know what I'm saying?
01:46Yeah.
01:46All right.
01:48Yeah, I mean, I guess it's a good question.
01:51But I think more of Waddle as a player, younger, and I don't have to play him twice.
01:55So, that's my quick reaction to your question.
01:59Appreciate the call.
02:00All right.
02:00Thank you, Steve.
02:01Thanks for calling me.
02:02Owen is next.
02:03Hi, Owen.
02:04Hey, how's it going?
02:05Good.
02:06I just wanted to praise the move a little bit.
02:08Everybody's, like, complaining about how we haven't been aggressive going to try to attack
02:13to get a receiver.
02:13And now we do, and everybody has a problem with it.
02:16The season that we had traded for Diggs that season, Diggs was 27 years old, and now a 28-year
02:22-old
02:22DJ Moore is too old.
02:25And then complaining about what we paid, it's almost identical to what the Texans paid us
02:29for Diggs for a one-year rental.
02:31It just feels like everybody's piling on bean when, like, we should be praising him for actually
02:36being aggressive.
02:38Well, Diggs was 26 when the Bills traded for him.
02:41Yeah, during the season, he was 27 years old, so about a year and a half difference is what
02:44I'm saying.
02:45It's, like, just like the Waddle.
02:47Like, Waddle's okay, but DJ Moore is too old.
02:49It's a year and a half difference.
02:51Well, listen, I don't know where you get your noise, and I can tell you where I get mine.
02:57But you're saying everybody's hating on it?
03:00Is that what you're hearing?
03:01Like, people are all hating on it?
03:02Yeah, just, like, from the recent callers, like, the last guy's the first guy I've seen really
03:05defend it.
03:05And then I go on Twitter, and I'm seeing people complain about it.
03:08It just feels like we're piling on bean, just because, like, it's a little bit of a bean
03:13hate trade right now, which is well-deserved.
03:15But not for me.
03:15Finally, he's aggressive to go get a receiver, and we're mad that it's not the one we want.
03:20I just...
03:20I think aggressive is the wrong point.
03:24And I would have said this every single time.
03:26Drafting Keon Coleman at pick 33 is not a lack of aggressiveness.
03:31It's bold.
03:32Drafting Dalton Kincaid in the first round is not a lack of aggressiveness.
03:36It's the opposite.
03:38Like, the Bills have not failed.
03:40If that's how you'd want to put it, maybe you wouldn't.
03:42Maybe you would.
03:43But the Bills have not failed at pass catcher for a lack of trying.
03:48Look at the list.
03:49It's not 49 people like Travis's Carolina list.
03:52Look at the people they've brought in.
03:54Like, it's not like they just ignore.
03:56Palmer was expensive.
03:58Shakir got a huge extension.
04:00Like, they've done tons of work at the position.
04:04Like, last year, we were signing guys off the street.
04:08We're not trading for anybody.
04:09It was a lack of aggressiveness where we were in terms of last year.
04:13Maybe.
04:14I mean, I don't know.
04:16Bean wanted you to know after the deadline passed that he tried for Waddle.
04:20Like, is that a lack of aggressiveness?
04:22Is that, like, not trying to trade for Waddle, or is it just not succeeding?
04:26Okay, I just more mean, I think maybe aggressive is not the right term,
04:30but, like, I feel like we should be praising this more than complaining about
04:33a year-and-a-half difference or we gave up a second-round pick
04:36when we had got that in compensation for Diggs, and it was a one-year rental.
04:41Well, I would put those things together, Owen.
04:43Like, it's an equation.
04:46And the age difference and the money that they've promised him,
04:50I mean, they even reworked him to guarantee money in three years.
04:54Like, it's not just one thing or the other.
04:57It's all of it together that, for me, makes this tough.
05:02And then who the player is.
05:03And we can all have different opinions about the player.
05:06I'm not telling you I don't think he's good.
05:10I just, I guess I'm going to have to say this every five minutes.
05:14He was somebody who was never in my hair.
05:16Like, DJ Moore is not Jalen Waddle or Tyreek Hill or somebody I had to play
05:19against, like, ever.
05:20But, I mean, have they ever actually played against him?
05:23But, still, like, what you got from him were these sort of weird moments
05:30or excuses.
05:32And I just thought there were better ideas that would have probably been cheaper.
05:36And I thought, if you told me they were going to get DJ Moore,
05:39I'm like, okay, well, there's talent there,
05:41but I'm not going to really pay anything, right?
05:44It's going to be kind of free because the Bears don't want him around.
05:46Everybody knows that.
05:47And it so wasn't.
05:49But, you know, there's probably two sides to every one of those stories.
05:54Walking off the field during a play.
05:55Who's ever seen that before?
05:58I mean, he was so fed up with, and are Bills fans going to just tell me now,
06:02like, that's fine?
06:04I hope not.
06:05I hope we're sort of honest about this to ourselves.
06:09And then the last play of their season was against the Rams in the playoffs,
06:15in overtime, and Caleb Williams is picked off.
06:21And now you're going to tell me this is a Collinsworth problem probably
06:24because I know Bills fans and Collinsworth.
06:26Like, that makes any sense.
06:27He goes right into, like, what did DJ Moore just do?
06:31Why did he stop?
06:32And I don't know.
06:33Why did he stop?
06:35There's just stuff with him that, even from way out here, turned me off.
06:41And then you're telling me I've got to pay a second?
06:43And promise him huge money for three years?
06:46Like, I don't know.
06:48I'm out.
06:49They're in.
06:49I'm out.
06:50Here's David next.
06:51Hi, David.
06:52Hey, guys.
06:53How's it going?
06:53I'm fine.
06:55Yeah, I mean, like, look, I'm probably beating a dead horse here.
06:58But, I mean, a second-round pick for, you know, a guy with this production
07:02and the price tag that comes with it makes absolutely no sense.
07:07And it just kind of reinforces, like, what has been Bean's Achilles heel.
07:11I mean, like, just no concept for ROI from a salary cap perspective.
07:16And we're paying a lot of mid guys to do a lot of mid things.
07:19It's not Josh Allen's contract.
07:21Yeah, that's a fair, straightforward line about it, I think.
07:28Yeah, thanks.
07:29Here is Jerry next.
07:31Hi, Jerry.
07:32Hey, Mike.
07:32How are you?
07:33Okay.
07:36Do you ever have a player on your fantasy team that taints what you think of him
07:41because you watch him much more closely?
07:44I had DJ Moore two years ago.
07:46And all I kept thinking is, all I see out of him,
07:49and it might have been a product of Justin Fields, are the Shakir routes,
07:53the bubble screens, everything within two yards of the line of scrimmage.
07:57And I think whatever it is, 29 to the cap and giving up a second rounder
08:02is a huge price for someone that I haven't seen exhibit what we need.
08:09Well, I don't know.
08:10That part of it is up in the air for me because there is a stat today
08:16about how he's had top five targets of more than 20 air yards in the league
08:24over the last few years, whatever the exact statistic is.
08:27So I don't think he's just running all short.
08:31And if he is, that's not necessarily a DJ Moore flaw.
08:36So I'm not inclined to bang on him for that.
08:39I mean, I think he's probably a pretty complete player.
08:43And I've got the likes of Matt Harmon telling me so,
08:45who, you know, I know who to listen to, I think.
08:49And that's a lot for me.
08:50So I'm not down on him as a player in any way
08:56except for kind of like the weirdness of certain moments.
09:01And that just sort of takes me back to Diggs.
09:05Same college, by the way.
09:07It takes me back to Diggs because the Bills got Stephon Diggs
09:12and he was such a home run.
09:16And then it kind of changed to the point where,
09:21do we want to care about, like, that he's sort of putting his arms out
09:25toward Allen, like make a better throw?
09:28Do we want to care about that?
09:29These guys have a relationship.
09:31They've been an elite combination.
09:33Do we want to care about that?
09:34And I did because I thought that was such a bad sign for where they all were.
09:40And maybe I was right because they traded him and I was not expecting that.
09:44And I get that from this player too.
09:47That's probably at least a little unfair because he hasn't been here yet.
09:52And I'm not closely examining his routes or his team even.
09:57But that's like what I think of because, and this, as it happens with receivers,
10:03this kind of happens a lot where you've got this production and this talent
10:10and this level of stardom.
10:12But you know why this A, B, and C?
10:15And that's the impression I have of DJ Moore,
10:19that there's stuff that I kind of hope just doesn't come to the surface.
10:24But I'm just a fan out here like you are,
10:30having your own opinion of the player.
10:33And, yes, of course I've had that opinion about players in fantasy
10:36because I've had everybody in fantasy.
10:38I have everybody every year.
10:39Here's Louie next.
10:40Hi, Louie.
10:42Mike, you know what?
10:43I love you to death, but I have to disagree with you today.
10:46I really, really do.
10:47Because DJ Moore, okay, I know what you're saying about prima donnas.
10:51Receivers, they put up some, you know, they smart, they complain, they cry.
10:56I get it.
10:57They're prima donnas.
10:58But the guy is productive.
11:00Okay, he didn't have a great year last year.
11:02But if you look at his numbers, look at his average per catch,
11:06look at his availability, the guy never misses a game.
11:09The guy's good.
11:10The guy's a steady round runner.
11:12Yeah, okay, we gave him a second.
11:14But, Mike, let's be honest.
11:15It's more like a third-round pick, okay?
11:16Look where we're picking.
11:18We came back a fifth.
11:21You call Coleman a first-round pick too?
11:25Hey, there's busts everywhere, man.
11:28Do you call Coleman a first-round pick if this trading a second is actually a third?
11:32Is that how we're going to do this?
11:33It's not a second?
11:34I'm just saying it's a late second-round pick, okay?
11:39It's not a mid-second-round pick or a high second-round pick.
11:43Louie, you're not telling me a single thing I don't know.
11:46Okay, what I'm trying to say is he's a good player.
11:49I said that, too.
11:50Well, why are you complaining about it?
11:52What's the issue?
11:53Haven't you been listening?
11:56Yeah, you don't like the value.
11:57I get it.
11:58Well, there's your answer.
11:59You answered your own question.
12:00Well, you think that they're going to cut him and just let him go like that?
12:03There's a lot of – if they do that, it's because, you know what, they're in cap struck, okay?
12:07I get it.
12:08Every team is in this sort of situation.
12:10Some teams are different from the cap than other teams.
12:13But the guy is a good player, Mike.
12:15We haven't had a player on our team that's been available.
12:19Oh, okay, so this guy at least is good.
12:23Well, listen, I'm not wearing my Bill's goggles, I guess, Louie.
12:27I don't understand with you.
12:28I can't even hear you anymore.
12:31I don't know.
12:32I didn't say the Bears – that I knew the Bears were going to release him.
12:35I just know that there was speculation along those lines because his role was compromised
12:40and the money is ridiculous for a player giving them what he gave them last year,
12:46and he's a year older.
12:47So I'm not telling you – don't go telling people in your life that I said that.
12:52I just read that it was possible.
12:55And I just can never imagine feeling like I'm just so far removed,
13:02so out of touch with, like, this kind of speculation that I would feel like
13:06I had to give a second-round pickup, which is not a third.
13:09It is late.
13:10You're not telling me anything I don't know.
13:11I'm sorry if you thought you were.
13:14803-0550.
13:15I'm Mike Shope.
13:15Bulldog is out sick.
13:17Tomorrow is NHL trade deadline day, and so we very much want to have him back for that,
13:22as we do every day.
13:22Okay, thanks for listening.
13:24Your calls are welcome.
13:25This is WG.
