00:00Do you like the extra day off?
00:01No.
00:02I love it.
00:03Oh, no.
00:04No.
00:05Although I do feel maybe it is serving a purpose,
00:09although there were a game, I don't know.
00:12I think no, because I literally did not know
00:17walking out of the arena Tuesday night when the next game was.
00:20I was so focused on them winning that game
00:24and us being there for it,
00:26and the whole crowd being there for it,
00:28having the moment Philadelphia had last night,
00:30which had to be awesome for those fans.
00:33Not that it's been 14 or 15 years or whatever, but still.
00:36Close enough.
00:36It's been a while, and that's one of their,
00:40if not their biggest rival, I mean, whatever.
00:42Awesome moment.
00:43I was jealous.
00:44You know, it sort of compounded the sadness watching that.
00:48Like, that was why we got the tickets in the first place,
00:51was to have that moment.
00:53I mean, I love a hockey game, but, like, you know,
00:55I've been to thousands of hockey games.
00:56I wanted to be there for that moment,
00:59and we didn't get the moment,
01:00and then watching Philly have it last night was bleh.
01:04But I think the extra day,
01:08no, I really, I would rather have a game tonight.
01:11You know, I talk so often about missing the every other day rhythm,
01:15and here we are.
01:16It's getting tense, and it's not every other day.
01:19We've got an extra day to sort of stew in it,
01:21and I don't think I'm, I wish they were playing tonight, I think.
01:26Yeah.
01:27For me, it's not that I'm pessimistic,
01:30but it's pushing off the potential for pain.
01:34Yeah, yeah.
01:35I hear that.
01:35You know, I'll take a week off right now.
01:38I want, that's what, I don't know if it's that interesting even,
01:42but I said it all the way through the regular season,
01:44just like, you know, it can all wait.
01:46I just want it to last.
01:48And this means it lasts an extra day, I guess.
01:51Game seven would be Sunday.
01:53Right.
01:53We know there'll be at least one more home game.
01:57Game seven in the Tampa series would also be Sunday.
02:00If needed, there'll be one more home game.
02:01The way you said that made it sound like we know there's a game seven.
02:04We know if there is a game seven, there'll be a home game.
02:06Yeah.
02:06Well, I mean, it will be the next round.
02:08Oh, right, exactly.
02:09Okay, sorry.
02:10There'll be at least one more game in there.
02:11Gotcha.
02:12Hopefully there'll be ten more.
02:13Yeah, yeah.
02:14But Tampa would also be Sunday if they, I guess, win game six now in their series.
02:20Right, which is why I think you don't have a time yet for Sabres,
02:23because they're going to want to choose that.
02:26I mean, if there's going to be two game sevens,
02:27they're going to want to put them in their spots.
02:29And I don't know what that means.
02:31I mean, the Sabres already played on a, well, it was a Sunday night, actually.
02:35I'm sorry.
02:35I'm out of whack because it was 5.30 where I was that game,
02:38but it was 7.30.
02:40It's like a normal nighttime start.
02:42Yeah, I don't know.
02:42If Montreal and Tampa and Buffalo and Boston are, like, two game sevens on Sunday,
02:49what does Canada want?
02:51You know, what does TV want?
02:53Well, there's also Vegas, possibly, too.
02:56So there could be three.
02:57Right.
02:58I would guess that it wouldn't be, like, early afternoon.
03:04Do they do that?
03:05Would they put a game seven at, like, 1 o'clock?
03:08I think they would go 5, 7, 9, more like that.
03:13If there's three, yeah, or maybe.
03:16I don't know, though.
03:16Yeah.
03:17I could see, like, three, 6, and 9.
03:19I think they want to space them out by three hours, probably.
03:22Game seven in an afternoon seems, like, a little bit strained.
03:28I don't know.
03:29That's just my guess, that it would be early evening.
03:32If there were three, if there's two, even, and it's in Buffalo and in Tampa,
03:38you know, nobody's starting at 9 o'clock in that case.
03:40No, I think you're probably talking about, again, I think you'd want to separate them.
03:45Like, I don't know if how the networks are lining up, if, like, ESPN or TNT will have
03:51both of those games, or, like, what that's going to look like.
03:54I'll bet that's listed in my app if I go look.
03:58And that would be a clue, then, because there would definitely not be overlap.
04:01Like, if TNT owns Sunday, for some reason, then the games are going to be spaced out
04:09by three hours, I think.
04:11And if there's three of them, that means you're starting, I think, probably pretty early.
04:15Although Vegas could play as late as 10, I guess.
04:19Well, I guess we hope to not find out.
04:21Yes, that's right.
04:22We hope to wrap this up on Friday night and just get it done.
04:26So, what's our collective DEFCON level?
04:29You were here yesterday, I was not.
04:31What do the fans sound like?
04:34There wasn't a lot of anxiety from the fans yesterday that I felt.
04:39I got more response on Twitter to that question than I did really on the show.
04:45The show was more like, you know, the anthem was incredible, you know, too bad about the game.
04:50It was, you know, the lineup, you know, Norris, what's going to happen here,
04:54Auslin getting hurt.
04:56I don't have a good read of the angst level.
04:59I know I did say at one point, and I really hate this about myself,
05:06that walking in here yesterday and starting to talk about it,
05:11it's very hard for me to avoid the specter of a sort of nothing burger 3-1 loss on Friday
05:20night.
05:20Like, it's Boston.
05:23There's ghosts.
05:24I have a very hard time imagining them, as good as I believe they are.
05:29I mean, you asked me before game three, take a split?
05:32No.
05:32They're the better team.
05:33Go win two games.
05:34And they did.
05:35Now they lost on Tuesday.
05:36Wednesday, and I just, I'm haunted, and I don't like it.
05:42Like, I want to replace that chip in my brain, but it's there.
05:46I mean, it's scar tissue, it's life.
05:48And I'm supposed to win three games in Boston in this series?
05:52Like, that just seems nutty to me.
05:55But they have looked better in Boston than they have here, I think.
05:59Right?
06:00The two games there are, they won them both.
06:04But the game they won here was sort of, you know, they didn't really get,
06:07they looked good, but they were losing until very late.
06:10I would say four has to be their best game of the series.
06:15It's almost like not even in the same category.
06:18Right.
06:18Four nothing in the first.
06:19Then it's just, it's a different, you know, you have different goals after that.
06:24It's like it's not even a playoff game, a game like that.
06:27It's just, you know, you're not really playing to play in the same way
06:30once you're up four goals.
06:32But that has to count at the top.
06:34I think I would say game one was their second best game.
06:38And they pulled that out.
06:40Then I think I might pick game three, third.
06:44And then five, two, maybe for the last two.
06:49I mean, five, it was just so disappointing that they didn't finish it.
06:56I mean, you already did this yesterday, I'm sure, a lot.
06:59I mean, you and I were together for the game.
07:01And Zucker talking about his chance in overtime.
07:04And how many times you and I had to get up from row nine, 105 row nine.
07:09We had to get up in overtime to see almost anything that happened in their
07:14offensive zone.
07:15Because other people were standing.
07:17And how many times did you do that?
07:19I think I stood up ten different times in the overtime.
07:21At one point, I did think, I don't know how many more of these I got in me.
07:26Up and down.
07:27Because that chair, like I am just stuffed into that seat.
07:31And getting up is, there's an effort.
07:34Like, I got to wedge my body out a certain way.
07:37And I'm just like, up and down, up and down.
07:38Like, I'm at a hockey game, I know.
07:40But I did have the thought, embarrassingly so, I thought, like, I hope they score soon.
07:46Sabres.
07:46I wasn't rooting for Boston to end it so I could stop getting up.
07:49But, yeah, I know what you mean.
07:50But some of that is, you know, they had good chances, obviously.
07:55But, like, one of them I know was, like, Malenstein on a rush.
07:59And, like, I know he's made a couple plays this year, but really?
08:03I'm not.
08:03Sorry.
08:04I'm boycotting that one.
08:05I'm not getting up for Malenstein going one on two.
08:08Well, I was not judgmental to the same extent.
08:12I was getting up for every time I had to, I was getting up.
08:16But Zucker talked about, just like, he thought he'd scored in the first 30 seconds, but his shot hits Quinn.
08:23And, man, it was tough to see down there from inside the arena, but there were numerous good chances.
08:30The one for me, like I told you walking out, was Tuck, where the puck just comes to him right
08:37in the prime position,
08:38and he takes a small step to his right, and he shoots it into Swayman's pad.
08:43And I thought, I wonder if he knew he had more time than that he could have just sort of
08:48roofed that and ended it.
08:49But, you know, that's how it goes.
08:51It's just, I was so excited for, all the way through into overtime, where we were sitting, being so close
08:59to the benches for handshakes.
09:00Like, I've never seen that before.
09:03Yeah, I'm always frustrated by the TV coverage because, you know, you don't get to choose who you're going to
09:08watch.
09:08You know, the TV jumps around sometimes, and often I feel like they skip away from a guy that I'm
09:14waiting to see, another guy, and that interaction.
09:17And, like, they've got to cut over to something else.
09:18Like, oh, he was just about to shake hands with that guy.
09:21I was so excited for that.
09:23Being so close to the Boston bench, Ruff would have come over and shaken Sturm's hand right in front of
09:30us and all the assistants.
09:31And that just would have been an incredible scene, plus the goal that would have done it.
09:36And none of that ends up happening.
09:39So, disappointing.
09:40But I think you've just got to have faith.
09:42Because, again, which team would you rather have been in that game?
09:46I mean, that wasn't, like, unanimous.
09:48Buffalo didn't dominate the game, but so many looks at it.
09:52But now you just have to hope that, like in Game 3, when it happened, this time tomorrow, they get
10:00their bounces.
10:01You know, like, in that game, the Byram goal is a tip.
10:04The Tuck goal might have been a tip.
10:06The empty net goal is crazy and awesome.
10:08And still, like, that was very close.
10:11Yeah.
10:11And you just have to hope that in this one, or if it comes to Sunday, eventually they get their
10:18bounces.
10:18It would be nice to get Thompson, you know, clicking.
10:22And Paul mentioned this on the post-game show the other night, how he said, and how Thompson has said,
10:28you know,
10:28your best guys have to be your best guys, that whole thing.
10:31And here's Pasternak with the winner in Game 5.
10:37Now, you know, Thompson has been since Game 1.
10:39Pure serve, yeah.
10:40It's time.
10:41Yeah.
10:41They've had power plays, and that looks better, looked better anyway in Game 5 than previously.
10:47You just got to hit one.
10:49He had a slap shot chance in the third period, right, to our left, in Game 5, from outside, like,
10:58closer to the boards.
10:59He just absolutely gunned it, and I don't know if he missed or it was stopped there.
11:03Like, just a great possible moment there for him.
11:07Didn't happen.
11:09Hopefully.
11:10He had a great chance in the third period, too, with Swayman down and just hit the pad.
11:14And Paul and I talked that through yesterday, because I'm not sure how fair it is to say, get it
11:20up.
11:20I mean, he's in real tight there, and the play there might be, you know, I'm going to beat you
11:26to the post.
11:27Like, you're coming across.
11:28I got you, I got you, and just slide it in.
11:30Don't waste time trying to lift it.
11:32And instead, Swayman got there in time to beat the shuttle on the ice.
11:37The Kozak chance, was that like two minutes left, I think?
11:40He had a great chance over there.
11:43And speaking of, you know, you mentioned with Tuck, did he know he had time?
11:48And it's hard to know in the moment.
11:50You're at the goal mouth, or in this case, Kozak's at the left post, you know, looking from behind the
11:56net.
11:56He shovels a backhand, Swayman gets it, and then he tries from behind the net to just throw it off
12:02of Lindholm, I think,
12:03is standing in the center of the crease, and it doesn't work.
12:06And if you watch that play, I'm pretty sure Kozak has enough.
12:11He has, nobody's really close to him.
12:13To come around?
12:13He could have just stepped out and flipped it into the net, I think.
12:16But your instinct is, I don't have time.
12:18You know, you're always going to feel like you don't have time.
12:20But looking back at the replay, I know, easy to say now.
12:23Like, you know, just dipped out there and thrown it in.
12:25I mean, I think there was nobody, I think Lindholm, the player he hits with the puck,
12:30is the closest person to him other than the goalie.
12:32Well, all this is really what I'm thinking about the most for what's left of this series.
12:38Like, who is going to be Jason Pommenville or Chris Drury?
12:41Who is going to be the guy who can actually beat Swayman and end this thing?
12:46If, you know, they get to a point where, say, they go to overtime tomorrow night,
12:50which I think I would take right now.
12:52I think I would take that.
12:54Get me to overtime.
12:54It could be the same game as game five.
12:57Yeah.
12:57And who is the player on this team?
12:59You want it to be Zucker, but he just misses.
13:02You want it to be Thompson, but he just misses.
13:03You want it to be Tuck, but he just misses.
13:06Like, these are the guys that, as fine a line as it all is, as tough as it is,
13:11like the difference between scoring and not against a very good goalie in those moments,
13:16who is actually going to do it?
13:18And it could be anybody.
13:19Logan Stanley had a pretty good chance in the late going of that game.
13:23Just like, it could be anybody.
13:25You know who I like?
13:27Quinn.
13:28No.
13:28Josh Norris.
13:29Okay.
13:30Well, he's a goal scorer.
13:31He, he, I've had it wrong since game one.
13:35Like I've said repeatedly when we've talked, like Paul said, like, you know, I didn't like
13:39him in the first two games.
13:40It's, it's like his fifth shift of the series that he falls awkwardly into the end wall.
13:46And I think hits his head and keeps playing and whether, whether it was a head injury
13:52or is a head injury or was an aggravation of something else.
13:55I think, you know, most of this series that he played those first two games, he was playing
14:01through something that he didn't want to let out because in part, because of his, his
14:06reputation probably.
14:07Right.
14:07Like I, I cannot go out here.
14:09I'm going to suck it up.
14:11And that's really scary if it was a head injury, uh, especially, you know, just considering
14:15what we know.
14:16But anyway, I think if he's really healthy and not like, you know, 70% and is just the
14:22best idea they have.
14:23Cause in that case, then I would dip into Rochester.
14:26The, the idea that people are talking about putting Helenus in instead of him is insanity
14:32to me.
14:32That is a very good hockey player.
14:34And if he is healthy, he should help them.
14:38I don't think he was right for most of the game that he played in this series.
14:42So his performance to me, I'm, I'm throwing his performance in the first two games out.
14:47They don't really count because again, it's four minutes left in the first period when
14:51he goes headfirst into the wall.
14:53And if he hurt himself there, then you're talking about five periods after that, that
14:57he played, that he wasn't right.
14:59So if he's right, that's my guy tomorrow night.
15:04I just, I thought he'd be really important.
15:07And obviously he has not mattered at all here because you know, he hasn't played.
15:11He got hurt.
15:12Um, I think that's a really good hockey player.
15:15Um, and I think he's being, being judged harshly on those two games.
15:20And I think I want to give him a little bit of an hour or a big guy, I think
15:24is what I
15:24want to do.
15:25Yeah.
15:25I mean, I, I love all that.
15:27That's not to say that I'm not going to miss off Ausland obviously elevated and I wish he
15:31were there, but Norris to me is, I mean, he's, he's, he's paid forward.
15:38He's a good, very good hockey player.
15:39Norris, Quinn, Benson, Krebs, one of these guys who wants to be a hero.
