00:00University Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah student S. Vigneswaran has pleaded not guilty to defiling a copy of the Quran
00:08by stepping on it.
00:11Vigneswaran made his plea after he was charged before Kuantan Sessions Court Judge Harmi Tamri Muhammad Bernama reported.
00:19The charge was framed under Section 295 of the Penal Code for defiling a sacred object with the intention of
00:26insulting Islam,
00:27which is punishable by up to two years in prison, a fine or both upon conviction.
00:33Vigneswaran also claimed trial to the improper use of network facilities by uploading a picture of himself stepping on the
00:39Quran on social media.
00:43The charge was framed under Section 233, Subsection 1A of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,
00:50which provides for a maximum RM500,000 fine, up to two years in jail or both upon conviction.
