00:11Abdul Razak Ismail pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out before Magistrate
00:16A. Sharmini today, Haryan Metro reported.
00:19Razak was charged with voluntarily causing hurt to the victim, 21-year-old Elijah Ling,
00:24at a shopping mall in Johor Bahru at 6.15pm on March 16.
00:29The charge was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to two
00:33years' imprisonment, a maximum fine of 2,000 ringgit or both, upon conviction.
00:38Sharmini fixed bail at 2,000 ringgit with one surety and set April 29 for mention.
00:44Earlier, Razak pleaded guilty to a charge of voluntarily causing hurt before disputing
00:49the facts of the case, leading Sharmini to reject the guilty plea and order a trial.
00:54He was initially charged with committing the offence at 3.45pm on March 16, but the
00:59prosecution requested a discharge not amounting to an acquittal to refer the case to the Attorney
01:04General's Chambers, which later said the DNAA was due to a technical issue that had
01:09been resolved.
