00:01Police have arrested a University Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah student suspected of insulting Islam on social media.
00:09Berita Harian reported Pahang Police Chief Yahya Uthman as saying that police arrested the student in Kuantan this morning
00:15after a photograph allegedly showing his foot stepping on a Quran went viral yesterday.
00:21Yahya said police would apply for a remand order today.
00:25The case is being investigated under Section 295 of the Penal Code for defiling an object considered sacred with the
00:32intent to insult religion,
00:33which provides for up to two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both.
00:37The case is also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the improper use
00:45of network facilities,
00:46which provides for up to a year's imprisonment, a fine of up to 50,000 ringgit, or both.
00:52UNPSA said it was also investigating the student for sharing social media content touching on the 3R issues of religion,
00:59race, and royalty.
01:01The university said firm action would be taken against any student found guilty of disciplinary offenses
01:06under the University and University Colleges University of Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Student Discipline Rules 2024.
