00:01Ten community organisations across West Yorkshire are to receive a share of almost half a million pounds to support walking,
00:09wheeling and cycling initiatives in local neighbourhoods.
00:12The funding has been allocated by the Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracey Braben, with grants of up to £50,000
00:18awarded to ten hubs providing free advice, access to equipment and group activities designed to build confidence and encourage active
00:27travel.
00:28The Mayor says the programme forms part of her ambition to widen access to healthier transport options through the Weaver
00:36Network and to underpin the region's forthcoming local transport plan, which is expected to be adopted next month.
00:43Since 2022, more than £1.7 million has been invested in 33 hubs across the region.
00:49In Leeds, the Seacroft Active Travel Hub, based at the Dennis Hewie Centre, is among the latest recipients.
00:58Volunteers there offer bike repairs, maintenance workshops, guided walks and cycling confidence sessions, alongside wider community support, including blood pressure
01:07checks and partnership work with police community support officers to address bike theft.
01:12Organisers say additional funding will allow them to expand services, including repairs to mobility aids and targeted workshops for groups
01:22who can be excluded from traditional cycling spaces.
