00:00Today, we're going to focus on something completely different. We're going to focus on
00:04fertility. I'm sure many of you have been endured with the trauma of being questioned and interrogated
00:10about when are you going to have the baby. So what we're going to do for the month of
00:16March is just to analyse what are the ways to enhance the fertility in both men and women.
00:30Let's go to talk about the frequency of sexual intercourse and the interval of having the
00:38sexual intercourse in relation to the menses. So how does it work and are there any myth
00:43in order to enhance the sperm reaching the eggs? Let's talk about physiology first. So
00:50the sperms that is ejaculated actually are quite resilient and they can survive inside
00:56the body between 5 to 6 days. So what it means is that after ejaculation, the sperm itself
01:03will continue to survive until it finds the eggs. So how long does the egg survive? It's
01:09only between 12 to 24 hours. So therefore on that basis, it's important to track when the
01:17ovulation starts. So you know to find out, it usually is the mid-cycle. So what does mid-cycle
01:24mean is that from the first day of the actual menses until the next time, then you take the
01:30middle part, it's roughly when the ovulation occurs. So is there any way to predict that?
01:36Well, sometimes the temperature goes up between 0.3 to 0.5 degrees. That obviously is a bit
01:43difficult in order to measure the temperature. Sometimes the actual secretion from the cervix
01:49also creates this kind of like a protein-like secretion which is slightly altered. And there
01:57are lots and lots of equipment in order to trace the hormone and track the exact timing
02:04of that. So when you track the timing, actually 5 days before the ovulation is the perfect timing
02:11to do it. And then also continue on a daily basis between day 10 and to day 16. And that's
02:19how
02:19you enhance the actual chances of between sperm meeting the eggs. So is there any position during
02:26sexual intercourse that might enhance it? The answer is no. So whether you do it inside out, upside down,
02:33it actually makes no difference at all. Is there any position after sexual activity to make sure
02:40more sperms actually will reach the eggs? The answer is also no. So there is no need to put
02:46yourself upside down after sexual intercourse because the whole thing will actually add a lot of
02:52awkwardness. So when somebody tries it on a regular basis, every cycle for more than 9 to 12 cycles without
03:01a baby, then you know you need to go and see a doctor. So now we talk about the ovulation
03:07time
03:08and how to time it in consistent with the actual time of the menses. How often shall somebody ejaculate
03:17in order to make sure the quality of their sperm continue to be fresh? So if you want to know
03:23that,
03:23so let's stick to the boys' chances of enhancing the sperm quality. Stay tuned for next week's
03:30putting Dr. G on the spot.
