02:20uh right here on the drive coming up at three in the three o'clock hour all right clinton the
02:25big news
02:26of the day uh gerard johnson he is out as the quarterback coach and the word is that uh they
02:33may be calling on jerry slapinski to uh to be the guy that is working uh with cj stroud uh
02:40and we'll see
02:41if they hire somebody else from within but that was aaron wilson was reporting that jerry slapinski
02:46will be the guy potentially working with cj stroud and that may be the plan there your thoughts
02:51overall gerard johnson's been here all three years that cj was here was a part of things as a
02:59quarterback coach that year that cj started out as a rookie and had that breakthrough season and has
03:04been there the last two years as well your thoughts on this move from uh from the texas well i
03:09got a bunch
03:09of them i got a bunch of them i think let's hear um you know well first things first i
03:14mean let's
03:14let's uh let's they're out of they're out of reasons they are now out of excuses for the
03:22regression of cj stroud i mean you you've moved on from bobby slowick who was a big part of the
03:26the
03:27rookie of the year season uh the toughest year of the three that domico's had you i mean i think
03:32it's
03:32fair to say um now you've moved on from gerard johnson who was a big part of of of all
03:38the success
03:38that cj stroud is and when you talk about cj stroud having played great football gerard johnson
03:43was was obviously a big a big part of that so i think first and foremost they're out of options
03:48of who they can point the finger at and and and blame the regression or blame any downfall on other
03:53than the quarterback at this point um and so that's number one bobby bobby slowick last year gerard
04:00johnson this year how many more folks can you can you point the finger at before you get to seven
04:04maybe
04:04domico for for making that making those hires i think you could point at nick caleb and then we go
04:08ahead and then you get to number two and and i think i think for me you know i said
04:14this when domico
04:15ryan's was hired is he he's got to get the offensive play caller right and everything's going to hinge on
04:22that and when you look at it domico's been great as a head coach the organization as a whole is
04:27healthy
04:27the the they've won a bunch of games but if we look at it uh specifically about the with the
04:34decisions
04:34that domico ryan's has made on the offensive side of the football it has been awful you hire an
04:39offensive coordinator uh for whatever reason it it wasn't because you couldn't win with him but it
04:45wasn't because your quarterback didn't play well um it wasn't because he couldn't overcome
04:50injuries and and things of that nature um but you fire him you go in a route of another first
05:00time
05:00play caller now the guy that was a no-brainer hire for cj stroud mentor friend coach for the last
05:0910
05:10years apparently has known him knows his family has known him longer than anybody uh will work work
05:14great with him appeared to work great with him for one year now that guy's gone so what you've looked
05:21at if you're domico ryan's you come in here from a san francisco organization you tried the san francisco
05:26thing you tried it your way and now if anybody needs any proof he has turned the reins over to
05:31nick cayley and that leads me to my i mean nick casario that leads me to my third point they
05:37have
05:37turned this thing into new england 3.0 2.0 i think bill i think i think uh bill o
05:43'brien was 2.0 uh they
05:45have turned this thing into bill o'brien 3.0 everybody on this offensive coaching staff including the guy
05:51that's rumored to get the the the quarterback coach gig has ties either playing or coaching
05:57in new england and make of it what you will i'm not a fan um he'll damn near all of
06:03them have been
06:03to john carroll yeah they're the same they're their college college uh uh buddies with not maybe not
06:09buddies but but uh at least alumni of the same same spot where nick casario came from so uh it
06:15is very
06:16interesting to see where this offense has landed after after what we've watched cj stroud do and
06:22after hiring domico ryan's i thought for sure that when domico ryan's was hired that you were going to
06:28get some level of the offense that we've watched take over the nfl and not that he didn't try because
06:36he damn sure tried with bobby slowick and i would say tried with gerard johnson too because gerard johnson
06:40was with kevin o'connell i believe in minnesota a bit um not that he didn't try but boy they
06:46they punted on that on that system real quick and if somehow landed back in nick casario's new england
06:51patriot way of doing things and we'll see we'll see if it works we'll see how much of a fit
06:55cj stroud
06:56is and we'll see if they can win with it yeah um i listen first for me uh
07:02clint i thought there's some interesting thoughts there with the all right cj it's now it's now definitely
07:07on you which uh i think from the outside you mostly look at that i still think that's a little
07:13that's
07:14that's that's interesting to kind of look at it from that standpoint they've made a bunch of moves
07:18the quarterback is the last one they haven't made um and hopefully we see what what is around him but
07:24i
07:24i do think that whatever has happened with cj stroud and the quarterback i think there had to be
07:33something significant that was different working with the quarterback this year like you could not
07:41have come off the last two seasons in particular last year last year really felt like there was a
07:47there was a dip at times where cj didn't look like at all the guy we saw he was first
07:52here
07:52especially at the end to me it feels like if you're not going to replace the quarterback if you're not
07:58going to replace the game the the play caller or the coordinator somewhere something has to be
08:03different we couldn't just i don't think just run it back with what they with everything that was
08:09attached to the quarterback and so i i at least am glad that they said all right we got to
08:16do
08:16something different and they're at least changing the quarterback coach now i'm gonna be honest with
08:22you oh jerry slupinski slupinski or whatever however you're saying sorry jerry that ain't gonna be enough
08:28to me that that ain't it to just let go of jarod johnson and have somebody who was just in
08:34the building
08:34last year if he didn't again maybe he had all the answers in his back pocket like cole popovich did
08:40and just didn't give him but i think that and it feels like they need to have some something fresh
08:45from outside to be working with cj stroud so i i hope that it isn't just jerry slupinski that is
08:51the
08:52one that is going to be tasked to work with him that was in the building but they needed to
08:55have
08:56something different connected with the quarterback yeah i mean i look at the the interesting thing is when
09:01they're making all these moves they're they're essentially with the exception of nick cayley
09:05obviously they're hiring from from within whether it's within this system or from within the new
09:09england the new england bill belichick days i mean so it's it's all it's all from from within the
09:16interesting thing about guys that are literally in the building the cole popovich now the the jerry
09:21slupinski um potential is this is such a collaborative effort on the offensive side of the football
09:28that i i would think that those those individuals would have a lot of say so uh from from jump
09:34unless
09:35they're just blowing smoke with with the with the thought of of how how you know how everybody has
09:42a voice and everybody's putting it together and it's it's it's it's it's a team effort like boy to just
09:48to to to go up we're gonna we don't like the guy that's that's actually the the o-line coach
09:53get him a
09:54hell up out of here we like the assistant better the assistant just sat around and watched all the
09:58same crap we did like how how does that how does that work out this feels like there needs to
10:02be
10:02something fresh something something else yeah i mean sheplinski was talking to cj straddle on the
10:07sidelines damn near every time the the the camera panned over there anyway like what so what exactly
10:14what was the problem we'll see i i just i think it's i'm not saying this ain't a great move
10:18i don't know
