00:17:28Dear Mr. Radovich,
00:17:30My name is Audrey Benack.
00:17:31My grandmother is Joan Benack.
00:17:33Her maiden name is Joan Gilmore.
00:17:52My grandmother told me recently how the two of you starred in a television program for General Electric at Casa
00:17:58Luma here in Toronto.
00:18:01She's never seen the episode as it was live to air and I'm currently trying to track it down for
00:18:05her in their archive.
00:18:40My grandmother is very well. She's still very lively. She still sings and is an avid swimmer.
00:18:46Double-sided, don't forget to turn the page and we're okay.
00:18:58In the fourth last bar, there's a second soprano note.
00:19:03I know.
00:19:04I'll vote that.
00:19:06Next week.
00:19:12That's the end of that.
00:19:13Yeah, that's me.
00:19:15Uh, could you take the, um, immorality, please?
00:19:23Lately she's been reflecting on her life.
00:19:26She thinks of you fondly and wonders how you are doing.
00:19:29What your life has been since the two of you knew each other.
00:19:32I googled you and was able to find your address from a website that listed your business.
00:19:37I hope you don't mind my being in touch.
00:19:40If you were interested, it would be nice for you to be in touch with her.
00:19:44Your telephone number is 647-501-1192.
00:19:49I hope to hear from you soon.
00:19:51Kind regards.
00:19:53Audrey Banak
00:20:06You're right, Audrey?
00:20:09Yeah.
00:20:13You scared me.
00:20:15Oh!
00:42:44Dearest Joan, here I am only a day from Le Havre, so I thought I had better do a little
00:42:49writing.
00:42:51The trip from the onset was a marvellous one, just like a pleasure cruise.
00:42:57We left Toronto on a mobbed boat train at 12.30 Sunday, and that was the worst part of our
00:43:02trip.
00:43:02It was so warm and crowded, and to top it off we got into Montreal very late.
00:43:08It is a wonderful feeling to see the tugs pulling our ship away from the dock.
00:43:12as people waved goodbye from the wharf, and it was a very beautiful day.
00:43:17Ah, what a life.
00:43:19From the time we left Quebec all the way up to St. Lawrence, through the Belle Isle Straits,
00:43:23north of Newfoundland, and for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, almost two-quarters of the way across
00:43:28the Atlantic, the water was smooth as glass.
00:43:31No sway, no rocking, just a slight swell.
00:43:35The days were warm and blessed by brilliant sunshine, and the evenings were cool with a
00:43:39full moon in the skies for three nights.
00:43:42I have never seen anything as beautiful as a sunset or a sunrise on the ocean.
00:43:51Are you getting bored with my efforts?
00:43:54Have you been having a nice rest in Toronto?
00:43:57It must be very warm there, whereas here it is always fresh.
00:44:01On Friday night, the pond became an ocean, and the boat started to sway and swing like crazy,
00:44:07but thanks to God it hasn't had any effect on me at all.
00:44:10I guess I am just an old salt.
00:44:13As you can gather from the letter, I'm quite happy and satisfied, but there's only one thing
00:44:18missing and that's you.
00:44:19I hope that this letter will find you in the best of health.
00:44:22Best wishes to the folks.
00:44:27Well, there are quite a few letters in here that were written when he was in Switzerland
00:44:36studying with a group.
00:44:38He was there for two months.
00:44:43He was with people that he knew, all of them were students of music, different instruments.
00:44:49And, uh, let's see, let's see if I can find, uh, sure.
00:45:04This was, um, I wrote this in July 25th, 1952.
00:45:10And I say to him, hi hon, it was real fine to get home last night and find your letter
00:45:16there.
00:45:17I certainly didn't think I'd hear from you until you arrived on the other side.
00:45:22By the time you read this, you will have completed your first crossing, and I hope without any
00:45:28ill effects.
00:45:29Trust that you didn't have to use your pills, but the time you spent on board was enjoyed.
00:45:36Since Wednesday here, the weather has cooled down considerably, which is very welcome, believe
00:45:42me.
00:45:43of course.
00:46:10Nothing very much has happened since you left here.
00:46:13I didn't feel too well Tuesday morning.
00:46:15I have slept so much this past week that I know that all of this energy stored up in me
00:46:21is
00:46:21going to have to be released soon.
00:46:23So I think this weekend I shall do some vigorous swimming.
00:46:28I have been studying and practicing quite a bit the last few days and hope I can keep it
00:46:33up.
00:46:35And there was no way of trying to get anything done the early part of last week because all
00:46:43I could think about was Andy, Ocean, Scythia, Continent and more Andy.
00:46:51Well, Andy, hope that you are well and most of all happy.
00:46:55Please look after yourself while you are away because no precaution is too great.
00:47:02I am looking after myself for you and no one else anymore.
00:47:06You know exactly how I feel and I hope you feel as strongly about the situation as I do.
00:47:13Hope you are comfortable where you are staying and that the girls are not too pretty.
00:47:19And did you have a haircut yet?
00:47:22Uh huh.
00:47:23How's the beard?
00:47:25Do you still shave every day?
00:47:30Well, Andy, it's 11.30 and I am sleepy so we will try and get some sleep.
00:47:35Our apartments are terrific but there is nothing much we can do about the heat.
00:47:40Look after yourself and don't get too stinkle too often.
00:47:45I haven't had one at all, strictly a lemonade girl.
00:47:49God bless you, darling.
00:47:51Always.
00:47:51Chill.
00:47:54You know, after so many years it feels strange to read all this and brings back so many memories
00:48:02and thoughts and other people who were still around then and are not around anymore.
00:48:11But anyway, this is beautiful.
00:48:14You can, it's not silk which is great and you don't have to iron it.
00:48:20Wow.
00:48:21Well, that's good.
00:48:23You don't want to iron it.
00:48:25The less maintenance the better.
00:48:28Okay.
00:48:29Whoop.
00:48:36Shoulder pads.
00:48:37Where'd they go?
00:48:39Okay.
00:48:40I'll straighten them out here.
00:48:44Okay.
00:48:45All right.
00:48:48Give me authority, I think.
00:48:51Shoulder pads.
00:48:51Well, if it's a new look, the shoulder pads are coming back in.
00:49:01Women are rising up in the corporate world.
00:49:04At least that's what I hear.
00:49:06Wearing shirts like this they will.
00:49:08Mm-hmm.
00:49:10So you can wear it in or if you're more casual you wear it out.
00:49:15Or you can belt it.
00:49:18Belt.
00:49:20That's a, that's an 80's look isn't it?
00:49:22Yeah.
00:49:25All right.
00:49:27It's a great color on you Audrey.
00:49:30You think so?
00:49:30It really is.
00:49:31Oh, yes.
00:49:31I do.
00:49:32Your skin.
00:49:33Want to try this on and see?
00:49:34Oh, red.
00:49:36Yeah.
00:49:36Lady in red.
00:49:42Your tail is hanging but that's.
00:49:50There you go.
00:50:00Did you put some beads on?
00:50:02Oh, I didn't?
00:50:03No.
00:50:04Maybe you don't want this.
00:50:07Or I can remember sometimes I didn't wear a necklace.
00:50:10I had a nice pin.
00:50:13Oh.
00:50:14Mm-hmm.
00:50:15I can see this.
00:50:16A nice, a nice gold pin or something.
00:50:18Are you sure you're not going to miss these things if I take them away from you?
00:50:21Oh, no.
00:50:22Because I know you're taking them I won't miss it.
00:50:24But only take it because if you're going to use it.
00:50:26Yep.
00:50:27I mean if you have no intentions of using them.
00:50:30No, it's really not so.
00:50:31Tell me.
00:50:31I won't be heartbroken.
00:50:34I'd rather know it's being used than not.
00:50:38Okay.
00:50:41Yellow is very, very hard for some people to wear.
00:50:45Mm-hmm.
00:50:45And wear it comfortably and enhance their looks.
00:50:48Yellow and orange are what a few people can do.
00:50:51Oh, you're still the same.
00:50:53You always take the shortcuts.
00:50:54Ever since you were a little girl.
00:50:56Here.
00:50:57That's so harsh.
00:50:59Just because I did not do a button.
00:51:02Yeah.
00:51:02Just a button.
00:51:03Save yourself time.
00:51:06Okay.
00:51:06Take this off.
00:51:09Let's see.
00:51:11Where is it?
00:51:12Well, you're designing a whole look for me.
00:51:16Okay.
00:51:18Well, what do you think, Andre?
00:51:20Do you think this is a yes or a no?
00:51:22Yeah.
00:51:24Yeah?
00:51:24Yeah.
00:51:25Yeah, yeah?
00:51:26Yeah.
00:51:28Okay.
00:51:29Then you can use that bag.
00:51:31Is there anything else here you'd want to try on, do you think, today?
00:51:34I think, I mean, I think there's plenty.
00:51:37Okay.
00:51:39Okay.
00:51:42Okay.
00:51:44So about this, this is the evaluate source of it!
00:51:51So let's check it out.

01:06:08And after the ceremony, the family and everyone, oh, gosh.
01:06:11And then we went back to the house, and we had a lovely little party.
01:06:16And it was a gorgeous day.
01:06:19I remember the weather was beautiful.
01:06:24And you just ran out of the house, ran out into the garden in the backyard like a bird who
01:06:30had just been set free.
01:06:35And it was like you were released.
01:06:39Those are the kinds of things that I like to remember.

01:07:19I didn't even know what to say.
