00:00At four o'clock in the morning, France 24 journalists meet with this aerial assault unit.
00:05On the front line in southeastern Ukraine, the 147th Artillery Brigade operates Caesar
00:10self-propelled howitzers. A high-value military asset, the weapons make their position a priority
00:16target for the Russian army. We fought from 2014 to 2015 and we only had Soviet-era material.
00:24Now, thanks to Europe, we're using modern weaponry and we've achieved a lot.
00:33It takes about a minute for the artillery fire to strike its target.
00:36But the work of Ukrainian gunners has changed since the first Caesars were delivered. In 2022,
00:42they used the state-of-the-art weapon as a mobile artillery unit. It could stop anywhere,
00:46take aim, neutralize its target and then move off. The war is completely different now.
00:52Fiber-optic drones fly into cities 40 kilometers away, so it's much more difficult to work this way.
00:58Protective netting now covers whole roads and even towns. In the command center,
01:03we meet Yaroslav, a young, career soldier. Barely 26 and already commanding this artillery
01:09division formed last year.
01:13Everything is organized around the FPV drones now. Any position where a howitzer is located
01:19or a hidden bunker, nets are hung everywhere. Why? Because when a drone gets caught in the net,
01:24its propellers get tangled and it stops functioning. Of course, the drone might explode in front of an
01:30entry, but at least it won't crash into the dugout.
01:35Here, the soldiers are pleased with their French howitzers. But although their equipment can hold
01:40up in the face of enemy fire, it takes its toll on the men.
01:46We want victory. We want the war to come to an end as quickly as possible because our loved ones
01:51are dying.
01:54In four years, the Ukrainian arsenal has evolved, but the war drags on.
01:59So, again.
01:59There is this .
