00:00Can I ask you, yeah, can I ask both of you really what you made a Bubba Chandler start on
00:05Monday?
00:05Because Bubba really struggled.
00:07Bubba Chandler was inning and two thirds.
00:09So we got five outs, but no hits, four runs because he walked four guys.
00:14And obviously the subsequent reliever came in and allowed some of those runs as well.
00:17But Bubba, that was just a little bit concerning.
00:19And I saw that he hit 101.
00:21Granted, it was February 23rd, but 101 was at the hitter's eyelid.
00:25So Aram, I want to start with you, just like level of concern with that element of Bubba Chandler's game,
00:30if there's any, because it was mid-February.
00:33I think it's just something that's going to come with the territory with him a little bit, where when he's
00:37on, he's walking nobody for five straight starts.
00:40But when he gets a little bit out of sync, and I don't know if it's, you know, just feel
00:45-based or whatever, like he's just kind of that guy that will have stretches where I think it's a little
00:50bit rough.
00:51So it's going to be a ride-the-wave type of thing, but I would say minor.
00:54We saw it early last year, and then he was able to curb it.
00:58I think it's just another reminder, though, that with some of the feel-based aspects for him, and I know
01:03he's had a little bit of this, like, elbow, unique elbow circumstance in the past.
01:06Like, I think there's just going to be days where the ball doesn't feel as great out of his hand,
01:09and then there's other days where, and these are going to be more common days, where he's pounding the strike
01:14zone.
01:14But I think he's going to be that kind of microwave, like NBA type of player, where when he's hot,
01:19I mean, it could be that way for a while.
01:21But when he's not shooting well, it can get a little bit rough and can get too fastball-heavy.
01:26Got you.
01:26Peyton, were you able to get eyes on that?
01:29Yeah, so I watched that start live.
01:31I had eyes on it.
01:33You see, the first inning was great.
01:35I think an important bit of context is he was sharp in the first inning.
01:40I think he did issue a walk, but he shrunk out Jason Dominguez.
01:43He placed some fastballs.
01:44He showed a nice change-up.
01:47He also placed a very, very nice slider to Paul DeYoung.
01:52I'm pretty sure the hitter was.
01:54Front door, like, it was really, really nice.
01:57And then it just kind of unraveled in the second inning, which is, I think, if you want to be
02:02glass half full, you'd be like, okay, first appearance of the year.
02:06He came out nice out the gate.
02:08The sit down and getting back up kind of threw him off a bit.
02:11But, you see, I think a big thing with Bubba Chandler that Aron pointed out is he did finish last
02:16year incredibly well from a command standpoint.
02:19He had zero walks in his last four starts.
02:21And I do think it is improving in general.
02:23Yeah.
02:24So, it's funny because I was just thinking, as you were saying that, if we're going to play this game
02:28with Bubba Chandler, we have to play it with Yoshinobu Yamamoto as well.
02:31And Yamamoto's line in his spring training start didn't look that good.
02:35But if you watched his start, the first inning was unbelievable.
02:39And he looked like the best pitcher.
02:39He put Nolan Shenua in a locker.
02:41Yeah.
02:42Yeah, it was crazy.
02:43He looked like the best pitcher on the planet.
02:45And then he comes back and he struggles in the second inning.
02:47But guess what?
02:47Like, I watched the MLB fast cast, like the 10-minute, here's what you missed in spring training.
02:52They didn't show a lick of that second inning.
02:54It was just Yamamoto looked great.
02:56We move on because it was just the first inning.
02:58We've got about 60 seconds left.
03:00Peyton, rapid fire.
03:01Who else you got for us prospect-wise?
03:02Okay, Ranio Rodriguez, number 24 prospect for us.
03:06He ripped a 108-mile-an-hour double yesterday.
03:09Looks very good.
03:10Tanner McDougal of the White Sox was sitting near 100 and he flashed nasty breaking stuff from the left side.
03:15Ben Hess was chucking the grossest breaking balls all day today.
03:21Made guys look foolish.
03:22And Esmeralda and Valdez hit a, I mispronounced that, 100%.
03:28It's okay.
03:29Crazy backside grand slam.
03:31And Connor Griffin continues to be the most unlucky prospect in spring training.
03:36That's my brief rundown.
03:38Connor Griffin has really been swinging it well.
03:40Number one prospect on Just Baseball's top 100.
03:43Pirates prospect, Esmeralda and Valdez, also a pirate prospect.
03:46And then Ben Hess, first-round pick of the New York Yankees.
03:49So plenty of prospect stuff to watch, and it feels like there's a guy every single spring that forces his
03:55way on to a major league roster with a great spring training.
03:58Just talked about it on Monday, like Jordan Walker with the Cardinals a couple of years ago, Anthony Volpe a
04:02couple of years ago, Cam Smith in Houston in 2025.
04:06There's always a guy.
