00:36The prophetic book of Revelation is full of apocalyptic visions demonstrated in signs,
00:43symbols, intriguing characters, and supernatural beasts. However, encrypted these events and signs
00:51may seem, the very title of the book implies that God wants to reveal his future plans to
00:58us. For years, it seemed that many of the pivotal events described in the book of Revelation
01:08were beyond probability. That is, until today, technology has finally caught up with Bible prophecy.
01:17prophecy. But before we look into the future, let's look to the past.
01:25Judea. The early Christians struggled to survive under cruel Roman occupation. These followers of
01:32Christ faced intense persecution from the Roman government for refusing to claim Caesar as their
01:39lord and king. And this persecution followed the Christians into the agora or supermarket of their day. In order to
01:51buy or sell in the Roman market, one needed to pledge allegiance to Caesar. And upon making this declaration, they
01:58would receive a mark on their right hand and forehead, an imperial sign, allowing them to enter the market and
02:05to buy and sell.
02:07Judea. The forehead could be clearly seen even when their arms were filled with wares, and the mark on the
02:13hand could be seen during the exchange of coins. Without these marks, it was impossible to engage in the economy
02:20of that day.
02:23Judea. For declaring Jesus as their king and rejecting the mark of Caesar, early Christians were jailed and executed for
02:31insurrection.
02:35Judea. History often foreshadows events in the future.
02:39Judea. If we look to the 13th chapter of the book of Revelation, we find another leader who demands allegiance
02:44from every person in the world. He proclaims himself lord of all, requiring political and religious leaders to follow him,
02:53and sets in motion a one-world economy under his complete control.
02:57Judea. And without his mark, no man or woman can buy or sell.
03:03Judea. Until recently, this type of economic control seemed unimaginable. But in today's world, technology finally caught up with prophecy.

05:27And now, here is Dr. Jeremiah with his message, The Beast from the Earth.
05:33I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb, and he
05:39spoke
05:40like a dragon.
05:43John describes this leader as a beast coming out of the earth, which is obviously a metaphor
05:49to describe his predatory nature.
05:52He's a man.
05:53He's called the false prophet three times in the book of Revelation.
05:58And the appeal of this man is wrapped up in the way he is described in this verse.
06:03Notice, two horns like a lamb, and a voice like a dragon.
06:09You've probably heard the metaphor that he is a wolf in sheep's clothing.
06:15He's different on the outside than he is on the inside.
06:18On the outside, he looks harmless.
06:20He looks caring.
06:22He's charismatic.
06:23He's likable.
06:25He's sensitive.
06:25But on the inside, the Scripture says, he's got a voice like a dragon.
06:29Remember who the dragon is in the book of Revelation?
06:32None other than Satan himself.
06:35It is important to understand why Satan has recruited these two evil men.
06:40The three of them together form the unholy trinity.
06:44Just as God is a trinity, so Satan is a trinity.
06:49Satan counterfeits God the Father.
06:51The Antichrist counterfeits God the Son.
06:54The false prophet counterfeits God the Holy Spirit.
06:57So the beast from the earth, or the false prophet, is the third person in the unholy trinity.
07:04And once again, Satan hasn't had an original idea since he's been on this earth.
07:08All he can do is try to copy God the best he can, and he always falls short.
07:12He never does quite measure up.
07:14Notice what his purpose is in verse 12.
07:17He exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence
07:22and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast
07:26whose deadly wound was healed.
07:27The false prophet will be a religious figure,
07:30but his religion will be demonic at the end of the age.
07:35Religion will be one of the tools that Satan uses to unite the world
07:39under the leadership of the Antichrist,
07:41which is why the false prophet will be so essential to his success.
07:46Notice thirdly how powerful this person will be.
07:50He performs great signs in the sight of men,
07:53and he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs
07:58which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast.
08:03The power of this false prophet won't be his own power.
08:06The Bible says he gets it from the Antichrist.
08:08Where does the Antichrist get his power?
08:10He gets it from Satan.
08:11So this is just a connection between Satan to the Antichrist
08:15and from the Antichrist to the false prophet.
08:18It says here that he deceives those who dwell on the earth
08:21by those signs which he was granted to do.
08:24In other words, he's given power to do this by the Antichrist.
08:27Now, John tells us in this little text we have in front of us
08:30three ways he goes about this deception.
08:33First of all, the Bible says he calls down fire from heaven.
08:37Notice verse 13.
08:38He performs great signs so that he even makes fire come down from heaven
08:42on the earth in the sight of men.
08:44Remember now, he's a counterfeiter.
08:47He's a mimic.
08:49All he does is try to do what God does.
08:51How many of you know that on occasions God used fire?
08:54When Sodom and Gomorrah were judged,
08:56the Bible says they were consumed by fire from heaven.
09:00There were a couple of people in the Old Testament
09:03named Nadab and Abihu,
09:04and they were careless in the offerings of the temple
09:06and the tabernacle,
09:08and they were consumed by fire from God.
09:10So here is the Antichrist.
09:12He wants everybody to think he's the God.
09:14He's got to come up with a fire thing.
09:17It is a deceitful attempt to give an air of legitimacy
09:21to his presence.
09:22I've got to tell you,
09:23as I study this book over and over again for all these years,
09:25one of the things that just overwhelms me
09:26is the incredible illustration and power of deceit.
09:32And I'm reminded that even in our culture today,
09:34that's the one thing that we are most vulnerable to,
09:38how easy it is for us to be deceived.
09:41Nothing seems real.
09:43Everything is sort of outside the pale of reality.
09:46And even in our churches and in our walk with the Lord,
09:49if we're not careful, we deceive ourselves.
09:52Over and over again, Scripture tells us
09:54to look out for ourselves, let we not be deceived.
09:56Be not deceived.
09:58God is not mocked.
09:59Whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap.
10:03Satan has three things that he does.
10:05He deceives, he divides, and he destroys.
10:09And his number one tool,
10:11his entry into the life of a person tool,
10:15is the tool of deceit.
10:17And when you see Satan at his pinnacle
10:20in the tribulation period,
10:22what you see is the deceiver at his best.
10:26He calls down fire from heaven.
10:29And then second, the Bible tells us
10:31that he commands that an image be built.
10:34Verse 14 says this,
10:36And he deceives those who dwell on the earth
10:38by these signs,
10:39which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast,
10:42telling those who dwell on the earth
10:44to make an image to the beast
10:46who was wounded by the sword and lived.
10:49Once again, the image of the beast
10:50marks the final stage of apostasy and idolatry
10:53that has always characterized false religion.
10:57Stop for a moment and try to imagine with me this moment.
11:02If you've been to Israel,
11:03or if you've read Israel's story in the Bible,
11:06or you've read books about the tabernacle and the temple,
11:09and you've heard me preach,
11:10especially from the book of Revelation,
11:11you know that in the temple,
11:14the most sacred place in all of the temple
11:17was the Holy of Holies.
11:19The picture is that people could come to the outer court.
11:22Sometimes they could come to the inner court for sacrifices,
11:25but only once a year was the high priest of Israel
11:28allowed to go into the Holy of Holies
11:30to offer sacrifice for the people.
11:33And it was such a holy place
11:36that they put bells on the robe of the high priest
11:40so they could hear him when he was walking in there
11:42to make sure he was still alive.
11:43They tied a rope around his waist
11:46in case he did something wrong in there
11:48and he was immediately stricken,
11:49and they could pull his body out
11:51from having to go in and get him.
11:54The Holy of Holies was the most sacred place on the earth
11:58for followers of the true God.
12:01And on this particular day,
12:04Satan's Antichrist and false prophet
12:08have an idol established in the Holy of Holies
12:13and require the people of Israel
12:16and all those who gather on that day
12:18to fall down before that idol and worship him.
12:22The image of the beast is evidently what the Lord Jesus meant
12:26when he said this in his Sermon on the Mount.
12:29When you see the abomination of desolation,
12:33that's what this is.
12:34When the statue is put in the Holy of Holies,
12:37that's the abomination of desolation.
12:41Notice what Jesus said.
12:43When you see that, spoken by Daniel the prophet,
12:45standing in the holy place,
12:47let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains,
12:50for then there will be great tribulation
12:53such as has not been since the beginning of the world
12:55until this time, nor ever shall be.
12:58Have you ever heard the statement,
13:00the cup of iniquity is full?
13:02This is the moment when the cup of iniquity
13:05of this whole world is full.
13:07I don't want to put Jesus or God
13:10into a vernacular of the contemporary,
13:13but I have to tell you, I think I hear God say,
13:16that's it, I've had enough.
13:21And at that moment, all hell breaks loose on this earth
13:26as the second half of the tribulation begins to unfold.
13:30Paul wrote about this to the Thessalonians in his letter.
13:33He said, let no man deceive you by any means.
13:36There's that word deceive again.
13:38For that day will not come
13:40unless the falling away comes first
13:41and the man of sin is revealed,
13:43the son of perdition who opposes and exalts himself
13:47above all that is called God or that is worshipped
13:51so that he sits as God in the temple of God
13:55showing himself that he is God.
13:59The devil himself has tried to take over the place
14:03that belonged only to God.
14:05And you remember, this has always been his desire.
14:09When he was kicked out of heaven
14:10and when Jesus was on this earth,
14:12remember he took him up to a mountain
14:14and he showed him the whole area and he said,
14:16Lord Jesus, if you'll bow down before me and worship me,
14:19I'll give you all of this.
14:22Satan's great desire was to take the place of God
14:25and be worshipped.
14:26And finally, he requires it by this terrible act of blasphemy
14:33and desecration.
14:35And then, thirdly, he not only commands the image to be built,
14:40but he causes it to speak.
14:42It says in verse 15,
14:43And he was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast,
14:46that the image of the beast should both speak
14:48and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast
14:52to be killed.
14:54Now, you can argue about what this is all you want to.
14:57All I can tell you is it seems to me
14:58that this is nothing more nor less than demonic possession.
15:02I don't know of any other place in the Bible
15:05where an inanimate object is filled with Satan,
15:07but here it appears to be that the devil fills this beast
15:11and allows this beast to counterfeit the miracles of God.
15:16Then notice number four, his program.
15:19And this is something with which most of us are somewhat familiar.
15:23The false prophet causes all, both small and great,
15:26rich and poor, free and slave,
15:28to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads,
15:30and that no one may buy or sell
15:32except one who has the mark or the name of the beast
15:34or the number of his name.
15:37The false prophet is going to wear two hats
15:39during the tribulation.
15:40He'll be the religious leader and the financial czar.
15:44He's the one who will actually put into process the numbering.
15:48Now, everybody wants to know what the mark of the beast is,
15:50and I wonder if by the time that happens,
15:53the only place on the human body where it could be put
15:55that doesn't have a tattoo on it will be on the forehead,
15:58you know, I'm not sure.
16:00I don't know if you know, I've just noticed over my lifetime
16:02a lot more tattoos going on than I ever saw before.
16:06Well, this won't be a tattoo,
16:07but the Bible says there's going to be a mark.
16:10Without this mark, no one will be able to buy or sell.
16:14No one will be exempt from this,
16:16whether you're a CEO or a hired hand.
16:19No one will be able to function without this mark
16:22or this license or this insignia.
16:25And somebody says, well, what does the mark look like
16:28and what does it mean?
16:29Well, look with me again at verse 18 where we get a bit of a clue.
16:34Here is wisdom.
16:35Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast,
16:39for it is the number of a man.
16:41The number is 666.
16:43Now, that's the number you call the phone company
16:46and tell them you don't want in your phone number.
16:47Could you please change my phone number?
16:50Or you call the DMV and say,
16:52you put this on my license plate,
16:54I want to turn it in for a new one.
16:56Nobody wants 66.
16:57We don't even know for sure what it means, many of us.
16:59We just know it's not something good.
17:02Well, what is it?
17:04What is significant about 666?
17:08Oh, I'll tell you what,
17:09if you read the literature that I read on this,
17:11it would just amuse you so much.
17:12I've read so many.
17:13If you want somebody to be the Antichrist,
17:16you can make it happen.
17:19Here's what you do.
17:20You give every letter in the alphabet a numerical value,
17:24and then you start adding up their letters,
17:26and if you add them right, you can get to 666.
17:30If it doesn't work the first time, include his middle name.
17:34If it still doesn't work, but it's close,
17:36give him a doctor's degree.
17:38And keep working on it until, if you want to,
17:40you can make anybody the Antichrist.
17:42And you've probably heard all the stories about Hitler,
17:44and you've heard them all.
17:46But the bottom line is, folks,
17:47we don't know who the Antichrist is
17:49except what the Word of God tells us.
17:50It says it is the number of a man.
17:56Think with me about that for a moment
17:58because here is the conclusion of this message.
18:01Man was created on the sixth day.
18:07They are to work six days, not seven.
18:12You couldn't be a Hebrew slave for more than six years.
18:18Six is the number of a man.
18:21Now, God's number, on the other hand, is seven.
18:26He created seven days in a week.
18:30There are seven colors in the visible spectrum.
18:34There are seven notes on the musical scale.
18:37There are seven feasts of Jehovah,
18:39seven sayings of Jesus from the cross,
18:42seven secrets in the kingdom parables.
18:44At the fall of Jericho,
18:45seven priests marched in front of the army
18:47bearing seven trumpets of ram's horns.
18:50On the seventh day,
18:51they marched around the city seven times.
18:54That's all good,
18:55but what about the book of Revelation?
18:57Well, that's where it really becomes interesting.
18:59Remember, the book of Revelation
19:00is the revelation of Jesus Christ.
19:04That's what it says at the top of the book,
19:05the revelation of Jesus Christ.
19:08So listen to me.
19:08In the book of Revelation,
19:10the number seven is used more than 50 times
19:14to describe things that are going on
19:16in the revelation of Jesus Christ.
19:17Now, I'm not going to read them all to you,
19:19but I'm going to read a bunch of them to you.
19:20Listen to this.
19:22There are seven churches,
19:23seven spirits,
19:24seven candlesticks,
19:25seven stars,
19:26seven lamps,
19:27seven seals,
19:28seven horns,
19:29seven eyes,
19:30seven angels,
19:30seven trumpets,
19:31seven thunders,
19:32seven heads,
19:32seven crowns,
19:33seven plagues,
19:34seven vials,
19:35seven mountains,
19:36seven kings,
19:36seven beatitudes,
19:37seven years of judgment,
19:38seven letters to the seven churches,
19:40seven I am statements of Christ,
19:42and seven songs in heaven.
19:44And that's just some of them.
19:47Seven is God's number.
19:50Seven is the number of completeness.
19:53We have seven days in the week.
19:57But six is the number of man.
20:00That's what the Bible says.
20:01It's the number of humanity
20:02and the number of incompleteness.
20:05And perhaps the meaning of six,
20:08six,
20:08six is that human beings,
20:10even to the triple,
20:12fall short of God's perfection.
20:15On our own,
20:16we are incomplete,
20:17and we long for fulfillment
20:19in the perfect completeness of God.
20:23Everyone in this room today
20:24is either a six or a seven.
20:26And I want to tell you right now,
20:28I'm going to take all doubt away.
20:29I'm a seven.
20:31And I'm not a seven
20:32because I'm any better than anybody else.
20:33I'm a seven because I have accepted
20:35God's gift of Christ's righteousness,
20:38and that's how I got to be a seven.
20:41If you try to get to heaven
20:42by being the best six you can,
20:44even if you triple it,
20:45it's going to fall short.
20:47Six is the number of incompleteness.
20:49Seven is the number of fulfillment.
20:52I want to tell you a story
20:53that will help you remember this.
20:55Donald Gray Barnhouse,
20:57who was a great illustrator
20:58of another generation,
21:00explains this in a story that he tells.
21:03He said,
21:03The children of the great composer Bach
21:06found that the easiest method
21:08of awaking their father
21:09was to play a few lines of music
21:12and leave off the last note.
21:16They said that the musician
21:17would get up immediately,
21:19go to the piano,
21:19and strike the final chord.
21:22Barnhouse said he tried it.
21:24He said,
21:24I got up early one morning
21:25and I went to the piano in our home
21:27and I played the well-known
21:28carol, Silent Night,
21:30and purposely stopped
21:32before playing the last note.
21:35And I walked out into the hallway
21:36to see what would happen.
21:38He said,
21:39My eight-year-old son
21:40had stopped reading his book
21:41and was trying to find the note
21:43on his harmonica.
21:45He said,
21:46Another child was singing
21:47the last note lustily,
21:48as loud as he could.
21:51And an adult from upstairs called down,
21:53Did you do that on purpose?
21:57What is the matter with you?
21:59You see,
22:00our very nature cries out
22:02for completeness, doesn't it?
22:04Our very nature wants a resolution.
22:07The Bible puts it this way,
22:08that we're created
22:09with eternity in our hearts.
22:10And until God is at home
22:12in our hearts,
22:12we're always feeling
22:13like there's something missing.
22:15Some of you here today,
22:16you're going through that right now.
22:17You're good people.
22:18You're good sixes.
22:20You might even be a triple six.
22:22But a triple six is not enough.
22:25You have to come to Christ
22:27and get his righteousness
22:29and become a seven.
22:30Because if you don't become a seven,
22:32there's a little limerick
22:33you can keep.
22:34If I'm not a seven,
22:35I can't go to heaven.
22:37That's the truth.
22:40Only a seven gets into heaven.
22:42And you're never going to be
22:43a seven on your own.
22:45You say,
22:45well, I'm going to try
22:46to be my very best,
22:47and if I work really hard,
22:48maybe I can be
22:49six, sixty, six and a half.
22:51No good.
22:54The only thing
22:55that will get you into heaven
22:56is the perfect righteousness
22:58and completeness
22:59of Almighty God
23:00through Jesus Christ.
23:01And the wonderful news,
23:03men and women,
23:04is this,
23:04that God had made it possible
23:07for all of us
23:08to go from being a six
23:10to being a seven
23:11by just putting our trust
23:12in Jesus Christ.
23:15You say,
23:15well, I'm going to give it
23:16my best shot.
23:17Listen to me.
23:18If the best that humanity
23:20could offer times three
23:25couldn't make it,
23:27neither can you,
23:28nor can I.
23:31I'm here to proclaim
23:33Jesus Christ is a seven.
23:35And he wants to give you
23:37what he has
23:38so that you can know God
23:40and go to heaven someday.
23:42That's why the Scripture says,
23:44believe on the Lord Jesus Christ
23:45and you shall be saved.
23:48If you trust in him,
23:49he will come and live within you
23:51and he will become for you
23:52what you can never become
23:53for yourself.
23:54You can either believe it
23:56or not believe it,
23:57but you can't deny it.
23:59And one day
24:00you'll stand before
24:01the Lord God
24:02and he will take account
24:03of who you are.
24:05And if you're still trying
24:06to be the best six
24:07you could ever be,
24:08the Lord God
24:09will look at you
24:10and if you're not a seven
24:11in his son Jesus Christ,
24:12you will not get into heaven.
24:14I hope that you'll put
24:16your trust in him today
24:17if you haven't done so already.
24:18Almighty God loves you.
24:19Oh, I can't tell you
24:20how much he loves you.
24:22Do you think he would give
24:23his son to be your savior
24:24if he didn't love you a lot?
24:25And he wants you to know him.
24:28Dr. Jeremiah will return
