00:00:00In this day and age, the Christian, we believers, should be marked out as a different type of people in

00:00:07the world in which you and I live in.

00:00:09We should be the most loving, you know the drill, we should be the most gracious, the most forgiving, the

00:00:15most kind,

00:00:17but at the same time, we should be the ones that are also being the salt and the light.

00:00:23And it means that we have a full or rounded Christian walk, that we are not only studying the Bible,

00:00:32but we actually get up and we live out the Word of God.

00:00:35And so when I say tonight, Christian, is that you?

00:00:38We're going to be looking at some key things.

00:00:40And before we dive into that, I want you to consider this.

00:00:44Jude chapter 1.

00:00:45Jude chapter 1 verses 3 and 4 says this.

00:00:48Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation,

00:00:53I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith,

00:00:59which was once for all delivered to the saints.

00:01:03Why does he change?

00:01:05Why does he pivot to that argument?

00:01:07Verse 4 tells us.

00:01:08For or because certain men have crept in unnoticed,

00:01:12who long ago were marked out for this condemnation,

00:01:15ungodly men who turned the grace of God into lewdness

00:01:19and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.

00:01:24That's a great end time warning.

00:01:26Number two, 1 Peter chapter 4 verse 7.

00:01:301 Peter 4 7.

00:01:31But the end of all things is at hand.

00:01:33Therefore, be serious and watchful in your prayers.

00:01:39Prayer.

00:01:40Prayer.

00:01:41Not only contending for the faith,

00:01:43we should be people marked by prayer.

00:01:47Communication.

00:01:48Ongoing.

00:01:49Connected.

00:01:50To our God.

00:01:53And then 1 Thessalonians 5.

00:01:56And we'll come back to this at the end of tonight.

00:01:581 Thessalonians 5 verses 1 through 4.

00:02:01Paul said to the believers in Thessalonica,

00:02:04But concerning the times and the seasons,

00:02:07brethren, you'll have no need that I should write to you.

00:02:09For you yourselves know perfectly

00:02:13that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief of the night.

00:02:16For when they say,

00:02:19peace and safety,

00:02:20then sudden destruction comes upon them

00:02:22as labor pains upon a pregnant woman.

00:02:25And they shall not escape.

00:02:27But you, brethren,

00:02:29are not in darkness.

00:02:30Notice the contrast.

00:02:32The believer is in the light.

00:02:35They, them, those,

00:02:37they're in the darkness.

00:02:38So that this day should overtake you

00:02:41as a thief.

00:02:43Isn't that a great word?

00:02:44In other words,

00:02:45everything that you're reading right now

00:02:47is that we are to be a people

00:02:48that are sticking to the word of God.

00:02:51We should be a people in prayer.

00:02:53And that we should be a people

00:02:54that are not surprised

00:02:55by the day and the age in which we live in.

00:02:59We should be as the sons of Ishakar,

00:03:01the Bible tells us in the Old Testament,

00:03:04that they discerned the seasons

00:03:06and they knew what Israel ought to do.

00:03:09That's a good thing for you and I to do.

00:03:11Look around the world,

00:03:12look around our community,

00:03:13look around our life,

00:03:15this culture,

00:03:16our nation,

00:03:17and we should know what to do next as believers.

00:03:19Amen to that?

00:03:20God's given us the roadmap.

00:03:22So we're gonna do this the best we can.

00:03:24And if we do,

00:03:25if we finish tonight,

00:03:27it will certainly be a world's record

00:03:28in this church,

00:03:29for me anyway.

00:03:30And it is this.

00:03:31So remember,

00:03:32Christian,

00:03:32is that you?

00:03:33And so I want this to be very encouraging.

00:03:36Watch how this works.

00:03:37Christian,

00:03:37is that you,

00:03:38hopeful?

00:03:39The Christian is to be hopeful.

00:03:42Right now,

00:03:43more than ever,

00:03:43people are losing hope.

00:03:44Look at the polls

00:03:45that are out there politically.

00:03:47People are scared.

00:03:48People are nervous.

00:03:49People are questioning

00:03:51so much.

00:03:52And that is

00:03:54an open door

00:03:55for you and I as believers.

00:03:56So watch this.

00:03:57As we consider,

00:03:59number one,

00:04:00in the age in which you and I live in,

00:04:02you and I should be encouraged.

00:04:04And this message tonight,

00:04:05I hope five points

00:04:06will cause you and I

00:04:08to do

00:04:08and to be exactly that.

00:04:10Write down in your notes,

00:04:12hopeful.

00:04:12And when I think of the word hopeful,

00:04:13by the way,

00:04:14I always look at it this way in my head.

00:04:16Hope filled.

00:04:18I like that.

00:04:191 Thessalonians chapter 1.

00:04:22We start in chapter 1

00:04:24because why should I be hopeful?

00:04:26Now watch this.

00:04:28We're going to hear a lot tonight.

00:04:29You may or may not recognize it.

00:04:31But you're going to hear a lot tonight

00:04:33about the doctrine

00:04:34in the Bible

00:04:36of the rapture.

00:04:38Now you're going to watch for it.

00:04:39You've got to watch for it.

00:04:42Because strangely enough,

00:04:44why in the world

00:04:45is the rapture

00:04:46an issue

00:04:46that people think

00:04:48should be up for debate?

00:04:49I find it remarkable.

00:04:51When it's something

00:04:52that Jesus Christ himself

00:04:54introduced

00:04:54in his teaching

00:04:56in John chapter 14,

00:04:58why do people tonight,

00:04:59today,

00:05:00why do people

00:05:00argue and debate

00:05:02even if there is a rapture?

00:05:05I've come to this conclusion

00:05:06a long time ago.

00:05:08Satan doesn't want you

00:05:09to be excited

00:05:10about Jesus coming back.

00:05:12You want to know why?

00:05:13It will energize your life

00:05:15and you will be filled

00:05:17with hope.

00:05:18And Satan doesn't want that.

00:05:20And so there's a lot

00:05:21of false teachings out there

00:05:22and a lot of false accusations

00:05:24and misrepresentations

00:05:26about the rapture of the church.

00:05:27But I'm going to ask you

00:05:28to watch these five chapters tonight

00:05:31and look in each of the chapters

00:05:33that Paul wrote

00:05:34to the Thessalonian believers.

00:05:36In each of the chapters,

00:05:38I'll point them out to you.

00:05:39He points out

00:05:40a word of hope

00:05:42that is inside the chapter

00:05:46and predominantly ends

00:05:48each chapter

00:05:49with this infusion of hope.

00:05:51And he's expecting you

00:05:52to catch it.

00:05:53So let's catch it.

00:05:56Paul,

00:05:57Salvanius,

00:05:57and Timothy

00:05:58to the church

00:05:59of the Thessalonians

00:06:00and God,

00:06:01the Father,

00:06:02and the Lord Jesus Christ.

00:06:03Watch.

00:06:04Grace to you

00:06:05and peace

00:06:05from God our Father

00:06:06and the Lord Jesus Christ.

00:06:08We give thanks

00:06:10to God always

00:06:11for all,

00:06:12for you all,

00:06:14for y'all.

00:06:16He was from the South.

00:06:18Making mention of you

00:06:20in our prayers,

00:06:21remembering without ceasing

00:06:23your work of faith,

00:06:24labor of love,

00:06:25and patience of hope

00:06:27in the Lord Jesus Christ

00:06:28in the sight

00:06:29of our God

00:06:30and Father.

00:06:31Verse four,

00:06:32knowing, beloved brethren,

00:06:33your election by God.

00:06:35I love that.

00:06:37That means God picked you.

00:06:38God picked me.

00:06:39For our gospel

00:06:41did not come to you

00:06:42in word only,

00:06:43but also in power

00:06:44and in the Holy Spirit

00:06:45and in much assurance,

00:06:47as you know

00:06:48what kind of men

00:06:49we were among you

00:06:50for your sake.

00:06:51Verse six,

00:06:53And you became followers

00:06:54of us

00:06:55and of the Lord,

00:06:56having received the word

00:06:58in much affliction.

00:06:59That's powerful.

00:07:01The Thessalonians

00:07:02believed that

00:07:03what Paul

00:07:04and his team

00:07:04were preaching

00:07:06must be real

00:07:08because of their

00:07:09argumentation,

00:07:10number one,

00:07:11and then

00:07:12what they went through

00:07:13by way of affliction.

00:07:15In other words,

00:07:16they didn't change

00:07:17their story

00:07:18when they were

00:07:19under attack.

00:07:20They stuck with it

00:07:21with joy

00:07:22of the Holy Spirit

00:07:24so that you

00:07:24became examples

00:07:25to all in Macedonia

00:07:27and Achaia

00:07:28who believe.

00:07:29For from you

00:07:30the word of the Lord

00:07:31has sounded forth

00:07:33not only in Macedonia

00:07:35and Achaia,

00:07:35but also in every place.

00:07:37Your faith toward God

00:07:39has gone out

00:07:39so that we do not need

00:07:41to say anything.

00:07:42Wow,

00:07:43they had a very powerful witness.

00:07:44For they themselves

00:07:46declared concerning us

00:07:47what manner of entry

00:07:48we had to you

00:07:49and how you turned to God

00:07:51from idols

00:07:53to serve the living

00:07:54and true God.

00:07:55Here it comes.

00:07:57Verse 10,

00:07:58And to wait

00:07:59for his son

00:08:00from heaven

00:08:01whom he raised

00:08:03from the dead,

00:08:03even Jesus

00:08:05here it comes

00:08:06who delivers us

00:08:07from the

00:08:08what?

00:08:09Wrath to come.

00:08:10Mark it in your notes.

00:08:11The word wrath

00:08:12in the Greek language

00:08:13is not the word

00:08:14for hell.

00:08:16It's not hell.

00:08:17Jesus didn't

00:08:18look,

00:08:18he's talking to the believers

00:08:19who have already been saved.

00:08:22He gives them

00:08:23verse 10

00:08:23and he tells them

00:08:24I've got a really great

00:08:26infusion of hope

00:08:27for you.

00:08:29I'm blessed by you.

00:08:30I'm blessed

00:08:31by your witness church.

00:08:32That is you are waiting

00:08:33for his son

00:08:34from heaven.

00:08:35What son?

00:08:37The one he raised

00:08:38from the dead.

00:08:39The one and only

00:08:39Jesus

00:08:40who delivers us

00:08:41from the indignation,

00:08:44wrath,

00:08:44judgment,

00:08:46the vengeance.

00:08:47The word mean

00:08:47all that.

00:08:48That little word wrath

00:08:49means all of those things.

00:08:51God's vengeance,

00:08:52God's wrath,

00:08:53God's judgment.

00:08:54Again,

00:08:54it's not referring to hell.

00:08:56That's a different word.

00:08:58It's referring to the day

00:08:59that God

00:09:00will pour out

00:09:01his anger

00:09:02upon a Christ

00:09:03rejecting world.

00:09:04In other words,

00:09:05the world will get

00:09:06what it wants.

00:09:07What is that?

00:09:07A world without God

00:09:09and God is just

00:09:10going to turn them over

00:09:11and that is the great

00:09:12day of his wrath

00:09:14and that is the

00:09:15tribulation period

00:09:16and then it escalates

00:09:17on up

00:09:18to the last portion

00:09:20of the tribulation period

00:09:21but Paul is saying

00:09:23cheer up.

00:09:24Be filled with hope.

00:09:26God is going to

00:09:27deliver you

00:09:28through Jesus Christ

00:09:29from the wrath

00:09:31to come.

00:09:32Can I hear an amen?

00:09:33Amen.

00:09:34Church,

00:09:34things are going to

00:09:35get rough.

00:09:36Life is like that.

00:09:37There could be world wars.

00:09:38There could be,

00:09:39it doesn't matter.

00:09:42That doesn't mean

00:09:44that God's abandoned you.

00:09:46The fact of the matter

00:09:46is when he says here

00:09:47specifically,

00:09:49you follow the Lord,

00:09:50you keep looking for him,

00:09:52you maintain your witness

00:09:53and know this,

00:09:54your walk with Jesus Christ,

00:09:56you can be filled with hope

00:09:58because you can rest assured

00:09:59of this.

00:10:00For the believer who dies

00:10:01before the rapture,

00:10:03you go to heaven.

00:10:05Praise the Lord.

00:10:07If you are around

00:10:09at the time of the rapture,

00:10:10you're going up.

00:10:11Praise the Lord.

00:10:14This doctrine is so beautiful

00:10:16and so encouraging

00:10:18but people want to push back on it

00:10:20and yet I'm just throwing

00:10:21this out to you.

00:10:22Use it in your arguments.

00:10:23Use it in your witnessing.

00:10:25In 1 Thessalonians chapter 1,

00:10:28before the chapter ends,

00:10:30verse 10,

00:10:32God announces in his word,

00:10:33I'm going to deliver my people.

00:10:35There's a day coming

00:10:36that I'm going to deliver them

00:10:37from wrath.

00:10:38Just keep watching.

00:10:40Just keep waiting.

00:10:41That fills my heart with hope.

00:10:44Why?

00:10:45Because you know,

00:10:46some people say,

00:10:47well pastor,

00:10:47people have been saying this

00:10:48for 2,000 years.

00:10:51What's your point?

00:10:52In fact,

00:10:53you're making my point.

00:10:55He didn't come 1,000 years ago.

00:10:57He didn't come 1,500 years ago.

00:11:01Here we are in the 21st century.

00:11:03God's word never fails.

00:11:05It could be tonight.

00:11:07Just because it didn't happen

00:11:08doesn't mean it's not going to happen.

00:11:10Because it didn't happen,

00:11:11it means we're that much closer.

00:11:13So come Lord Jesus,

00:11:15come.

00:11:15Come tonight.

00:11:16That is my hope.

00:11:18Number two is this.

00:11:20Christian,

00:11:20is that you?

00:11:21Not only filled with hope,

00:11:22but perseverance.

00:11:25The Christian will persevere.

00:11:27We will suffer.

00:11:29Look you guys,

00:11:30I've been hearing it.

00:11:30You guys have been complaining.

00:11:32By the way,

00:11:32my phone is complaining.

00:11:33On your app,

00:11:34you and your weather app,

00:11:36have you noticed

00:11:36we're being lied to?

00:11:37Have you caught on to this?

00:11:38Every day,

00:11:40our phones say,

00:11:41warning,

00:11:42danger,

00:11:43extreme heat.

00:11:45Have you seen that?

00:11:52It's summer.

00:11:55What was today?

00:11:5693,

00:11:5793,

00:11:5894 degrees.

00:11:59You know what?

00:12:00It happens every year.

00:12:03And oh no,

00:12:04God forbid,

00:12:05but it's going to start

00:12:05cooling down in the fall.

00:12:08What are they going to do

00:12:09with their little warning?

00:12:10Panic,

00:12:11panic,

00:12:11panic.

00:12:11Listen,

00:12:12the world is trying to rob you

00:12:14and terrify you

00:12:15and then perseverance.

00:12:17We can handle

00:12:19a little rough weather.

00:12:21Okay?

00:12:22We can handle some sweat.

00:12:24We can handle

00:12:26some rough times.

00:12:27Right now,

00:12:28all the big debate

00:12:29in the nation,

00:12:30and if not the world,

00:12:31is because we're still

00:12:33at war with Iran,

00:12:35everything's going to go

00:12:36catastrophic in the election

00:12:38in November.

00:12:38Why?

00:12:39Because we're still

00:12:40at war with Iran.

00:12:41You guys,

00:12:42it's been February

00:12:43and it's been more time off

00:12:45than there has been war on.

00:12:48But people start talking

00:12:50and then it causes you

00:12:51to recoil

00:12:52or to somehow

00:12:53throw in the towel.

00:12:54We must never quit

00:12:55as Christians.

00:12:56We must never give up.

00:12:58Number one,

00:12:59we don't have the authority

00:12:59to quit.

00:13:00Who do you think you are?

00:13:02Are you a Christian?

00:13:02Yes,

00:13:03but I'm going to give up.

00:13:04You can't.

00:13:05You do not have the authority

00:13:07over your life.

00:13:07I can't take it.

00:13:09I'm going to kill myself.

00:13:10Are you a Christian?

00:13:11Yes.

00:13:12Well then,

00:13:13killing yourself's

00:13:14off the table

00:13:14because you don't have

00:13:15the authority to do that.

00:13:17You belong to Jesus.

00:13:18So what's next?

00:13:19Suck it up

00:13:20and let's link arms

00:13:22and move together forward

00:13:24until we see the Lord Jesus.

00:13:26We must persevere.

00:13:28And we can't let somebody

00:13:30criticize us

00:13:31or give you a bad post

00:13:32or a bad yelp.

00:13:36We're not flowers

00:13:37and we're not snowflakes.

00:13:39We are Christians

00:13:40galvanized by the Holy Spirit of God

00:13:43to live a life

00:13:44for his glory.

00:13:46And listen,

00:13:47again,

00:13:47Satan doesn't want people

00:13:49in your life

00:13:49or in this world

00:13:50to realize that

00:13:51they too can have hope

00:13:52and they too can learn

00:13:54how to persevere

00:13:55because it's all worth it.

00:13:57So now we go to chapter two.

00:13:59Look at us go.

00:14:00First Thessalonians,

00:14:01chapter two.

00:14:03For you yourselves know,

00:14:04brethren,

00:14:05that our coming to you

00:14:06was not in vain.

00:14:07I like that.

00:14:08But even after we had suffered

00:14:10before

00:14:11and were spitefully treated

00:14:12at Philippi,

00:14:13as you know,

00:14:15we were bold in our God

00:14:17to speak to you

00:14:18the gospel of God

00:14:19in much conflict.

00:14:21For our exhortation

00:14:23did not come from error

00:14:25or uncleanness,

00:14:27nor was it in deceit.

00:14:29But as we have been approved

00:14:32by God

00:14:32to be entrusted

00:14:34with the gospel,

00:14:35even so we speak

00:14:36not as pleasing men,

00:14:38but God who tests our hearts.

00:14:40For neither at any time

00:14:42did we use flattering words,

00:14:43as you know,

00:14:44nor a cloak of covetousness.

00:14:47God is witness.

00:14:48Nor did we seek glory

00:14:50from men,

00:14:51either from you

00:14:52or from others,

00:14:53when we might have made demands

00:14:55as apostles of Christ.

00:14:57Don't you love this guy?

00:14:59I love Paul.

00:15:00He could have rolled into town

00:15:02in a black donkey,

00:15:03tinted windows,

00:15:03and got out and said,

00:15:05I'm Paul the apostle.

00:15:06I mean,

00:15:06people would have freaked out.

00:15:07This is Paul.

00:15:08This is the guy.

00:15:09He didn't do that.

00:15:12He didn't do that.

00:15:14He did everything possible

00:15:16so that nobody could bring

00:15:17some reproach

00:15:18against the ministry

00:15:19or against his life

00:15:20as a bad witness.

00:15:21I love it.

00:15:22Verse 7,

00:15:23But we were gentle among you

00:15:25just as a nursing mother

00:15:26cherishes her own children,

00:15:28so affectionately longing for you.

00:15:31We were well pleased

00:15:33to impart to you

00:15:33not only the gospel of God.

00:15:35Have you noticed

00:15:35that recurring statement,

00:15:36by the way?

00:15:37The gospel of God,

00:15:38the gospel of God

00:15:38over and over again.

00:15:39It's beautiful.

00:15:40But also our own lives

00:15:42because you had become dear to us.

00:15:44For you remember, brethren,

00:15:46our labor and toil

00:15:47for laboring night and day

00:15:48that we might not be burdened

00:15:51to be a burden to any of you.

00:15:53We preached to you

00:15:54the gospel of God.

00:15:55You are witnesses

00:15:56and God also

00:15:58how devoutly and justly

00:16:00and blamelessly

00:16:00we behaved ourselves

00:16:01among you who believe.

00:16:04As you know how we exhorted

00:16:06and comforted

00:16:07and charged every one of you

00:16:10as the father does

00:16:11his own children

00:16:12that you would walk worthy of God

00:16:14who calls you into

00:16:15his own kingdom and glory.

00:16:21Next slide.

00:16:22Right?

00:16:22We're going to verse 20.

00:16:25It says 1 to 20.

00:16:27Am I losing my mind?

00:16:29For this reason,

00:16:30we also thank...

00:16:31I am losing my mind.

00:16:32For this reason,

00:16:34we also thank God

00:16:35without ceasing

00:16:36because when you receive

00:16:38the word of God

00:16:39which you heard from us,

00:16:40you welcomed it

00:16:41not as the word of men

00:16:43but as it were in truth

00:16:44the word of God

00:16:45which also effectively works

00:16:47in you who believe.

00:16:49For you, brethren,

00:16:50became imitators

00:16:51of the churches.

00:16:53That means they followed

00:16:54in the footsteps

00:16:54of the churches before them.

00:16:56Of God

00:16:56which are in Judea

00:16:57in Christ Jesus.

00:16:59For you also suffered

00:17:00the same things

00:17:01from your own countrymen

00:17:02just as they did

00:17:03from Judeans

00:17:06who killed both

00:17:07the Lord Jesus

00:17:07and their own prophets.

00:17:10And having persecuted us,

00:17:12they do not please God

00:17:14and are contrary to all men

00:17:15forbidding us to speak

00:17:17to the Gentiles

00:17:18that they may be saved.

00:17:20Verse 17.

00:17:21So as always

00:17:23to fill up the measure

00:17:24of their sins

00:17:25but wrath

00:17:26has come upon them

00:17:28to the uttermost.

00:17:29But we, brethren,

00:17:31having been taken away

00:17:32from you

00:17:33for a short time

00:17:34in presence,

00:17:35not in heart,

00:17:37endeavored more eagerly

00:17:38to see your face

00:17:40with great desire.

00:17:41Therefore,

00:17:42we wanted to come to you

00:17:44even I, Paul,

00:17:45time and again

00:17:46but Satan hindered us.

00:17:49Here it is.

00:17:49Verse 19.

00:17:50For what is our hope,

00:17:53our joy,

00:17:54or crown of rejoicing?

00:17:56Is it not even you

00:17:58in the presence

00:17:59of our Lord Jesus Christ

00:18:01at his coming?

00:18:03Verse 20.

00:18:04For you are our glory

00:18:05and joy.

00:18:07He's already told them

00:18:08in chapter 1

00:18:09that Christ is coming

00:18:10to spare you

00:18:13from the wrath

00:18:13so what you want to do

00:18:16is live in such a way

00:18:17that you are looking

00:18:18to persevere

00:18:20because you constantly

00:18:21have this hope

00:18:22before you

00:18:23that the crown of rejoicing

00:18:25is all of us

00:18:26coming together

00:18:27at some point

00:18:28where this journey

00:18:29terminates

00:18:30and that is when

00:18:31Christ appears.

00:18:32You will see

00:18:32that 1 Thessalonians

00:18:34is all about

00:18:35Christ coming

00:18:36for his church

00:18:37and 2 Thessalonians

00:18:39is about the second thing.

00:18:40And that is Christ

00:18:42second coming

00:18:43to the earth itself

00:18:44in his kingly return.

00:18:47Perseverance.

00:18:49Having things difficult

00:18:51in life

00:18:51doesn't mean again

00:18:52as I said

00:18:52God abandon you.

00:18:54God can only take

00:18:56listen

00:18:56his precious

00:18:57he takes things

00:18:58that would normally

00:18:59destroy anybody

00:19:00including ourselves

00:19:00but because you belong

00:19:01to him

00:19:02God will work

00:19:03these things out

00:19:04as you stay close

00:19:05and as he keeps you close

00:19:07it's a work in tandem

00:19:08you know

00:19:09he hangs on to you

00:19:10and you hang on to him

00:19:12that we get through

00:19:13to the end

00:19:14and God will perfect

00:19:17and sanctify your life

00:19:18in Christ Jesus

00:19:19for you and I

00:19:20all the way through.

00:19:21It's so rough

00:19:22it's so hard

00:19:23listen I can tell you

00:19:23right now

00:19:25churches all

00:19:25well I don't know

00:19:26about all churches

00:19:27but I can tell you

00:19:28about the pastors

00:19:29that I know

00:19:30of other churches

00:19:30in America

00:19:31same thing happening

00:19:32here

00:19:33is

00:19:35people are nervous

00:19:37people are being

00:19:38stressed

00:19:38Christians

00:19:40and people are being

00:19:41challenged

00:19:42like never before

00:19:44and financially

00:19:45there's difficult times

00:19:46the body

00:19:47each home

00:19:49the price

00:19:50it costs

00:19:51for you to run

00:19:52your electricity
