00:00I tell you, I feel terrible for Lamar.
00:02I feel terrible for Lamar.
00:05Like, that dude.
00:06Michael Irvin was on TV yesterday saying he should come down here.
00:08I mean, he'll be a dolphin.
00:09Not a good fit.
00:10Why not?
00:11It's not.
00:12Why not?
00:13It's not.
00:14Well, tell me why.
00:16One, because he's not going to run the football anymore.
00:24And I don't know if you necessarily want him just sitting in the pocket.
00:30It has to be some kind of combination of both.
00:32But if you have A-Chan and you have him in the backfield,
00:36you're going to ask him to run.
00:38And I just don't think he's there anymore where he can scramble.
00:43But design runs, he's getting a little banged up too much.
00:46He does get banged up.
00:46He's always gotten banged up.
00:47I mean, this is a hand injury.
00:49Are you more worried about the ability to throw with that?
00:51I'm – from a person who's had jacked up hands,
00:58like grip pressure on the football is a serious thing.
01:03And I don't think you're going to have an answer for that that quick.
01:09And so that's what would terrify me more than anything.
01:12But his overall ability – the one thing I'll say about Lamar is,
01:17of all the other running quarterbacks, Michael Vick, Cam Newton, RG3,
01:23he has adapted to throwing the ball out of the pocket more than any of them.
01:28I think the question I have is – because I think people expect it's going to take
01:32a lot to get him, and I don't know if it necessarily will
01:34because they very clearly don't want to, I think, extend him anymore
01:38if it does come to an end.
01:40So I think the Dolphins' big hang-up would be,
01:42do you want to pay a lot of money for Lamar Jackson because –
01:45He's only 29.
01:46He's only 29.
01:47He's going to be in line for a big –
01:48But I don't – like, we saw this last time.
01:51Remember, this is not the first time Lamar Jackson's been at a contract impasse
01:53with the Ravens, and he was offered to anybody who wanted him,
01:57and nobody traded for him.
01:58But that was a trade, though.
01:59But that's what this would be.
02:01I mean, he would be traded.
02:02It's not like he's going to be – I don't think they're going to release him.
02:06He's going to be able to sign with whoever he wants.
02:08Right.
02:09So, I don't know.
02:11I don't know.
02:12I really like him.
02:14As far as a person and watching him play, absolutely.
02:18He'll be – he'll probably be a Dolphin.
02:20You think?
02:21I don't think he'll be a Dolphin.
02:24They're not going to offer him anything.
02:25I would say for a number of reasons why.
02:28And he has the no-trade clause, so they can't trade him anywhere.
02:32He has to give the okay to where he's going to get traded.
02:34Is that true?
02:34He has the no-trade clause?
02:35Yes.
02:35I didn't know that.
02:35Yes.
02:36I don't know that.
02:37So, that usually means you get a little bit less.
02:39Which means he controls the situation.
02:41And the Ravens got to make a decision.
02:43Are they going to move off from the Lamar era?
02:47Because that's not his quarterback.
02:48Now, here's why I wouldn't trade for Lamar.
02:52Because where you are in your draft, you want the picks.
02:59And there's not a player that I don't think could come in with where you are as of right
03:06now and make that much of an impact.
03:10Because you're so young.
03:12So, like, you want –
03:14Although, he is a two-time, almost three-time MVP.
03:16Yeah, no, I know.
03:17But, okay, that's fine.
03:19Nobody's taking anything away from what he's done.
03:21I'm just saying that you want a lot of your guys on the same path, on the same time frame.
03:30Otherwise, if you go and get – invest in that one position and he's not on the same path as
03:36the other guys,
03:37he's going to outrun them.
03:38He's not going to be – he's going to be good and they're not going to be ready for him.
03:42Yeah, I guess the question is, like, is Malik ever going to be Lamar?
03:45Like, he runs like him right now.
03:47I think if you go statistically Lamar –
03:48No, absolutely not.
03:49Like, is he ever going to be that?
03:50I can tell you that without –
03:51Okay.
03:52No, he's not going to be Lamar.
03:54Because how many people are Lamar?
03:56No, I mean –
03:56So, that's – let's keep it real.
03:58But, Ken, the thing that we're starting to see, that if you can build a support, a good enough support
04:10system around a quarterback,
04:12he doesn't have to be Josh Allen.
04:15And I think that's where – what they're trying to figure out.
04:19They'll still draft the quarterback.
04:21But, if you're looking at the quarterback class this year and you're looking at what Malik does and how he
04:28handles the team and how he's growing,
04:31and they know how he's growing more than we do because they can see his decision-making on a daily
04:36basis.
04:39I don't see why you can't draft another position or kind of draft the quarterback, not in the first round,
04:49but in the maybe second or third round.
04:50I think that that's probably where they're leaning right now.
04:53Like, I think Malik Willis – you know, I think the way – first of all, we've got to remember
04:57how much the regime is going to believe in him
04:59because they made it a priority to go get him.
05:03So, I think that they – I think he would have to – I think Malik Willis would really have
05:07to stink up the joint.
05:08They say Leroy making up reasons as we go why Lamar wouldn't fit.
05:11That's not – okay.
05:13No, but I'm saying, like, Malik would have to be like Cincinnati, Malik Willis, the rest of the – the
05:18majority of the season for, I think,
05:20Sully to be rats off a ship on him.
05:21Right.
05:23So, I think most likely you're right that unless they get an offer that's like, hey, I just want out,
05:30you know,
05:32second rounder for him, like, something like that because you've got to give him a massive deal.
05:36It's not even that.
05:37It's the money.
05:37Yeah, it's the money.
05:38More than anything.
05:38Where you are right now, it's the money.
05:40So, here's what's – look at the contract.
05:42He has a no-trade clause and a no-tag clause, so you can't tag him.
05:46And he has – he has an 84.34 million salary cap hit for the Ravens in 2027.
05:55And if any team that trades for Jackson, they would take on a manageable $52 million cap hit for the
06:022027 season.
06:03That sounds like we'll attach him with a second rounder.
06:09But I just think the Dolphins aren't there yet.
06:11I don't – see, I don't even disagree with you on that.
06:14But I think the question is, are you going to get a better option than him in the next three
06:20years?
06:20So, like, is Malik going to turn into him as there going to be a draft option?
06:24Because here's the thing with the drafting quarterbacks.
06:26Like, everybody's saying, like, they don't even know who's coming out.
06:28They don't know.
06:29They don't know.
06:30Even Messamaker, who's getting, like, all this buzz, like, he doesn't have to leave.
06:34He's a sophomore.
06:35He's a redshirt sophomore.
06:36He doesn't have to go.
06:37None of these guys have to leave, and they all make $9 million to stay in college now.
06:41Right.
06:42So, I don't know.
06:44Like, that's – there's going to be some quarterback carouseling, it feels like, from some of these guys.
06:49Oh, a lot of quarterback carousel.
06:50You've got to figure the Eagles.
06:51I don't think after what they just did by ripping the Band-Aid off last year and eating $178 million
07:01in cap space,
07:05you think the most prudent thing to do is go and sign a quarterback for $50 million?
07:10Especially with durability issues.
07:12Right.
07:12You see what I'm saying?
07:13Like, this has nothing to do with everybody saying, oh, we want Lamar, he's local, and you don't like Lamar.
07:23No, it has nothing to do with that.
07:25It's like, I've always been – I said this when Tua was getting drafted.
07:30Like, I like what Tua does.
07:32Right.
07:32I think he has a skill set that's unique that a lot of quarterbacks don't have, that ability to throw
07:39where he throws.
07:41But where this team is and where this team was, should you really be drafting injured players in any capacity?
07:49No, but I guess the difference is you know, like, at the best of his capability, he's an MVP.
07:54Sure.
07:55Like, that's the difference.
07:56Sure.
07:56Sure, but you're also making that other assumption.
07:59Sure.
08:00So, I'm just saying, where this team is, is that worth the risk?
08:04I could understand if you were a quarterback away, then you roll the dice.
08:10But are you?
08:12If you brought Lamar in and he balled out for two years, how much better is that if the other
08:17guys aren't playing?
08:19I guess the question is, like, how much – if they have Malik next year, what's – like, what is
08:24the build?
08:25You know, like, what is the hope?
08:28It's not – is it supposed to be three years?
08:29Is it supposed to be – you know, like, let's say this ends up being a 3-4 win season.
08:34Right.
08:35I would say – I would say this, that this year is a nothing burger.
08:42Nothing burger, yep.
08:43Because – and here's why.
08:46I don't think you can evaluate this team until they have at least 80% of their salary cap space.
08:54So, you can see what they put together, what they feel they need, and then develop that.
08:59Now, the good thing is, you got 21 young guys, first and second year, that are actually contributing.
09:06That's a good sign.
09:09Now, how are you going to use that other $180 million?
09:12Probably going to have to pay Patrick Paul next year.
09:14Right, but that's –
09:15But everything else, I mean, you will have more money next year, for sure.
09:18So, I want to see how they put that together, right, before I – but to say, this guy can't
09:25do this, and this guy can't do that,
09:27and the quarterback is this – pump your brakes, we don't know yet.
09:32We don't know yet.
09:34Let's give them, you know, an opportunity to get it all together.
09:37You can draft a quarterback.
09:39I like the fact that none of these quarterbacks are standing out because usually with drafts like that, you have
09:49a second or third round that ends up being a Hall of Famer because you have already predetermined who the
09:54quarterbacks were going to be,
09:56and somebody slips into the second round and the third round.
09:59So, I'm okay with that.
10:02If you look at a young quarterback coming into the league and you look at what they say about Malik,
10:09is there a better place for him, a young quarterback, to go and kind of learn how to handle yourself
10:13as a pro quarterback?
10:15Than here?
10:15Yeah.
10:16Yeah.
10:16Yeah, I mean, like, I think there is – this is kind of his chance, though, too.
10:21There has to be some growth by the end of the year as well because I do think that you're
10:26hopeful that by the end of this season,
10:29even if you're not certain he's a franchise quarterback, you do need to know, can you go another season with
10:34him as your quarterback?
10:36Yeah, I think even – like, if I got – if it got down to it, I'm not – I'll
10:44bring in a backup,
10:46but I'm not paying no more money for a quarterback until I see what I have next year.
