00:00As Europe moves to take its defense into its own hands, how do EU citizens view their country's safety?
00:10More than two-thirds of Europeans believe their country is under threat, according to the latest Eurobarometer.
00:16France, the Netherlands and Denmark registered the highest levels, while Slovenia, Croatia and the Czech Republic recorded the lowest.
00:23At the same time, EU citizens draw a clear distinction between their threats to their country and to themselves, as
00:30the majority disagree that their personal safety is at risk.
00:34Most Europeans trust the EU to strengthen security and defense, especially in countries such as Luxembourg at 76%, Portugal at
00:4274%, Cyprus at 73%, and Lithuania at 71%.
00:49Younger EU respondents aged 15 and 24 trust the EU on security and defense more than other age groups, especially
00:56those aged 55 and older.
00:58However, almost one-third of citizens believe that the EU does not invest enough in defense and security, while 14
01:05% think it invests too much.
01:07Demand for increased EU investment rises with age, with 27% of 15 to 24-year-old respondents saying they
01:15want this, while 35% of those aged 55 and older call for it.
01:20EU space policy is also considered a hot topic within security and defense, with 34% of respondents mentioning it
01:27as their top priority.
