00:00I think that every time you do a movie as an actor, you feel that you're taking a risk.
00:06Every movie's got its own cliffs.
00:15Hi, I'm Benicio Del Toro.
00:23I think when you do a movie directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, you know it's a special project.
00:28When I was at the premiere, there was a feeling there that was very special.
00:34You could feel something different in the audience.
00:37The way the movie theater leans towards the screen, clapping it several times during the film, not just at the
00:45end, and then a solid clap at the end.
00:48For me, as I'm watching the film, I forgot I was in it.
00:52So the movie pulled me in, in a very special way.
00:55I never expected to, never saw it coming that, you know, that my role would click in that way to
01:05get a nomination.
01:07But I think when you're in a movie like One Battle After Another, that's a very strong wave.
01:13And it can take some of the people involved to some interesting places.
01:20I think that we're going to look back and really enjoy it.
01:22We call it the wave, and it's a big wave.
01:26And it's been rolling since the beginning of award season.
01:31It's kind of nice to surf in a group.
01:41I think that every time you do a movie as an actor, I think you feel that you're taking a
01:48risk.
01:49Every movie has got its own cliffs that you have to throw yourself out there.
01:55Every movie is different.
01:57Every story is different.
01:57Every director is different.
01:58I was part of a real good film.
02:02I was a little bit of a dark horse, independent film that went on to be recognized quite a bit.
02:10Maybe Traffic, also.
02:12I think those are two movies that propelled me into having more choices.
02:17And the Oscar goes to Benicio Del Toro in traffic.
02:27I remember in the crowd, I remember seeing Dustin Hoffman.
02:31I remember meeting him for the first time that night.
02:35That's a memory that comes to mind.
02:37And it's quite a special moment that is like I'm still remembering it.
02:47You know, success is many things.
02:50Early on was getting a job in a James Bond movie.
02:55It was the second part I got in movies.
02:58I thought that was a beast.
03:02I had a lot of antagonism for trying to become an actor.
03:10So, when I got that job, I was able to tell my folks that I was working on a movie.
03:17And so, when they asked what movie, and I said it's a James Bond movie, they knew.
03:23So, it was like the right movie at the right time.
03:26Because they were not too happy with me picking an acting career.
03:34So, having that, getting that part was like a good little moment.
03:40A good little victory.
03:42A little success.
03:46I think success is when you keep on learning and you feel that it's paid off.
03:54When it comes to acting in movies, you know, being nominated for an Oscar, that's quite successful.
04:01But it doesn't have to be that, you know.
04:04Success can be measured in many different ways.
04:07And I think for me, it's kind of like the fact that you keep on learning and, you know, remain
04:13a student.
04:14And, you know, I think also being able to not be thinking or believing success.
04:34And, you know, when I hear a job.
04:40I think that should be a good Normal esport.
04:40I feel it.
04:40I feel it.
04:42You know stuff.
