00:00The fallout from the Supreme Court's decision to strike down President Trump's tariffs continues
00:04to be swift and dramatic. You can bet we'll hear a lot more about it this week as the president
00:11prepares to deliver the State of the Union address tomorrow night. He already announced that he would
00:15spend a good deal of that speech speaking about the economy, and the Trump tariffs are the linchpin
00:19to his economic plan. After Friday's decision, the president blasted the court, claiming the
00:25decision proved the justices were corrupted by, quote, foreign interests. But never one to be
00:30deterred, the president immediately announced a new 10 percent global tariff authorized by a different
00:35law. And on Saturday, the administration increased that 10 percent tariff to 15 percent. And the
00:40president praised the three dissenting justices on Truth Social, writing, quote, my new hero is United
00:46States Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. And of course, Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.
00:51There is no doubt in anyone's mind that they want to make America great again. The president's new
00:56tactic to impose the 15 percent tariff is fast, but temporary. Under the law that he's using to
01:02justify this latest hike, the president can levy tariffs up to 15 percent for a maximum of 150 days
01:09to address, quote, large and serious trade deficits. Now, without getting too into the weeds here,
01:14at least one expert at the think tank Advancing American Freedom said that the law being used to justify
01:20this pertains to an outdated system. In short, the president could be on shaky legal ground again.
01:26Now, the president and trade rep Jamison Greer listed other, quote, legally durable ways to impose
01:32tariffs as well. But those could take more time to come to fruition.
