Sudan's mining sector has incurred $7 billion in losses as the country's 34-month-long war continues to disrupt operations, the national minerals authority reports.

00:13Authority reports. The director of the General Authority for Geological
00:18Research, Ashmed Haroun Aton, revealed that the authority's activities have
00:24shrunk more than 18 states before the outbreak of the war to only six states
00:31currently directly affecting research, exploration, operations and public
00:37revenues. Aton states that the authority has begun importing modern technologies
00:44and advanced machinery to enhance its technical capabilities following the
00:50resumption of its operations in the capital, Khartoum, rather than for Sudan. The
00:58new technical package includes geophysical device, remote sensing techniques and
01:04geographic information systems. Sudan ranks third in Africa and 13 globally in
01:11the terms of their diversity and volume of mineral wealth.
