Times Square in New York came alive on Friday (Feb 20) as thousands of Muslims gathered for Ramadan Tarawih prayers.

This marks the fifth year the annual event has been held in the iconic city landmark.

00:02Times Square in New York came alive on Friday as thousands of Muslims gathered for Ramadan Tarawi prayers.
00:08This marks the fifth year the annual event has been held in the iconic city landmark.
00:14Organizers said they distributed nearly 2,000 free meals to help Muslims break their fast,
00:19and anyone in need was welcome to share the meal.
00:22Being over here during the fifth time, we're grateful to the city of New York who provided another permit.
00:26Another time, they haven't shut me down yet. We're still going strong, alhamdulillah.
00:31And New York City Department of just for buildings.
00:37And NYPD, they're just over here supporting us, and we're looking forward to more years of success.
00:41To be able to come here, feed people, especially if anyone is homeless, they can come here and get a
00:46free meal.
00:46You don't have to be Muslim to eat. We break bread, we share bread, and we share good vibes,
00:51and that's what's so beautiful about this event.
00:53So if you don't know what Islam is, we're here to, you know, try to lead by a good example
00:57and spread the message of the Quran in the best way possible.
01:00Tarawi is a special prayer performed by Muslims during the holy month of Ramadan.
01:05It is encouraged alongside other acts of worship during this period.
01:10Ramadan is also a time when Muslims abstain from food, drink, and other worldly pleasures from sunrise to sunset,
01:17as a way of cultivating gratitude and spiritual reflection.
01:21The Times Square gathering highlights the spirit of unity and devotion among Muslims,
01:26even in the heart of one of the world's busiest cities.
