00:02Times Square in New York came alive on Friday as thousands of Muslims gathered for Ramadan Tarawi prayers.
00:08This marks the fifth year the annual event has been held in the iconic city landmark.
00:14Organizers said they distributed nearly 2,000 free meals to help Muslims break their fast,
00:19and anyone in need was welcome to share the meal.
00:22Being over here during the fifth time, we're grateful to the city of New York who provided another permit.
00:26Another time, they haven't shut me down yet. We're still going strong, alhamdulillah.
00:31And New York City Department of just for buildings.
00:37And NYPD, they're just over here supporting us, and we're looking forward to more years of success.
00:41To be able to come here, feed people, especially if anyone is homeless, they can come here and get a
00:46free meal.
00:46You don't have to be Muslim to eat. We break bread, we share bread, and we share good vibes,
00:51and that's what's so beautiful about this event.
00:53So if you don't know what Islam is, we're here to, you know, try to lead by a good example
00:57and spread the message of the Quran in the best way possible.
01:00Tarawi is a special prayer performed by Muslims during the holy month of Ramadan.
01:05It is encouraged alongside other acts of worship during this period.
01:10Ramadan is also a time when Muslims abstain from food, drink, and other worldly pleasures from sunrise to sunset,
01:17as a way of cultivating gratitude and spiritual reflection.
01:21The Times Square gathering highlights the spirit of unity and devotion among Muslims,
01:26even in the heart of one of the world's busiest cities.
