00:00Is Chinese tech making rickshaws stop in the middle of the road?
00:03Several videos have gone viral that show people approaching e-rickshaws and stopping them with their phones.
00:09Here's what's behind it.
00:10Many rickshaws use Chinese-made and Bluetooth-enabled battery management systems.
00:15They often lack safety features like passwords.
00:18That's where apps come in.
00:19They can manage the batteries and remotely cut power to e-rickshaws in the middle of driving,
00:24just with a Bluetooth connection.
00:25The person handling the app just needs to be close enough.
00:28As a start, the Indian government has ordered Apple and Google to remove some of the apps from their stores.
00:34Reportedly, two of them are Chinese-developed Ipukli Ion and Bat BMS that is supposed to monitor several battery functions.
00:42Stopping the rickshaws has led to drivers losing income.
00:45It is also a safety risk when the vehicles suddenly stop in the middle of the road.
00:50The police will further investigate the incidents.
