00:00We have four Tobago Union players on the national team. The national team has 10 players in total and four
00:07of them come from Tobago. It is an amazing feat because this was the first time we entered the qualifiers
00:14and to know that four of us made it, it was really a remarkable feat.
00:19Pickleball is a rapidly growing accessible paddle sport combining elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong. Played with a solid
00:28paddle and a paraded plastic ball on a badminton sized court with a low net, it is played as singles
00:37or doubles featuring a kitchen non-volley zone that encourages strategic close quarters game play.
00:44I think what is equally interesting and amazing is that we have one of the youngest players on the team.
00:51Jason, he's only 14 years old and he has made the team for the Caribbean Championships. So this was like
00:58a super proud moment amongst everybody.
01:01For the Caribbean Championships in Bermuda, Tobago has representation on the national team as follows. Women's singles, Lizelle James. Women's
01:10doubles team, Lizelle James and Samantha Crookshank. Men's singles, Joshua Arnold. Men's doubles team, Joshua Arnold and Jason Wells.
01:19They all took part in the finals. They all took part in the finals in Trinidad to make the national
01:23team. We saw Tobago scoring victory in the trials with both the men and women's singles winners coming from Tobago,
01:32Lizelle James and Joshua Arnold.
01:34The men's singles final was particularly exciting as that final entailed two Tobago players vying for the top spot as
01:43both uncle and nephew faced off in a fiery battle which saw Joshua Arnold coming out on top.
01:50Special congrats goes out to the youngest participant, Jason Wells, who is only 14 years old, making it to the
01:59finals of the trials and making the national team.
02:02We also saw our doubles teams making the national team as well, placing second.
02:09How do you feel being the youngest to make the national team?
02:13Being the youngest on the national team makes me feel great and I want to achieve more.
02:19The Tobago team is trying to raise funds of up to $25,000 for participation in the Caribbean Championships in
02:26Bermuda,
02:27which is carded for March 17th to 21st, 2026, which is under one month away from happening.
