00:00Following the death of actor Eric Dane, his longtime friend and Grey's Anatomy co-star
00:05Patrick Dempsey is opening up about his final days. Dane lost his battle with ALS on February
00:1119th at age 53. The actor revealed in April that he had been diagnosed with the rare degenerative
00:17disease, having first experienced symptoms a year and a half earlier. Dane played the role
00:22of plastic surgeon Mark McSteamy-Sloan during an eight-year run on ABC's Grey's Anatomy,
00:27while Dempsey played neurosurgeon Derek Shepard, also known as McDreamy. While appearing on the
00:33Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Virgin Radio UK on Friday, Dempsey revealed that he and some friends
00:38had visited Dane about a week before his death. And he was really starting to lose his ability to
00:43speak. He was bedridden and it was very hard for him to swallow, so the quality of his life was
00:50deteriorating so rapidly. He went on to say, he was the funniest man. He was such a joy to work
00:56with
00:56and I want to just remember him in that spirit. Anytime he was on set, he brought so much fun
01:03to
01:03it. He had a great sense of humor. He was easy to work with. We got along instantly. Dempsey added
01:10that his on-screen collaboration with Dane was never competitive. We hit it off because it was
01:15never really any competition. There was just this wonderful mutual respect. He's wickedly intelligent.
01:21The actor also shared this. I'm always going to remember those moments of fun that we had
01:26together and celebrate the joy that he did bring to people's lives. And the real loss is for us who
01:32don't have him anymore. Dane also had roles on TNT's post-apocalyptic drama The Last Ship
01:38and HBO's Euphoria, among others. For much more on the life and career of Eric Dane and more tributes,
