00:01very exciting to welcome into the k-rock studios right now uh damon jamie creators of gorillas
00:07they are here right now gorillas obviously on k-rock we got new music to listen to a new album
00:11a house of kong to talk about snl appearances so much to get into welcome back to k-rock boys
00:16thank you very much thank you i was just saying the first time i came here i think believe was
00:201991 are you one of those people that can remember years and months like you've got this rolodex
00:26not specifically i can remember when i started this whole sorry affair
00:33fond memories to look back on yeah but you remember this place it still smell the same
00:37still smell the same as it did in 91 uh no it smells cleaner oh wow that's the asbestos but
00:45i think
00:45the world's become slightly more sanitized yeah well i think our last location had black mold that's
00:50true we do have a new building k-rock was always always like the destination for for anyone from
00:57england you know back in those days that still is still is let's let's keep telling ourselves that
01:04right okay great that's why we're here uh congratulations guys the mountain uh which
01:09is out on february 27th which is strange because i think the album was officially done back in june i
01:14believe yeah so you've been sitting with it for a long time before the general public gets to consume
01:19it does that give you time to second guest stuff or no you're just uh moving it gives him time
01:23to
01:23rehearse for the all the live shows that are coming that doesn't take that long doesn't it no what
01:28about the rest of the band you have to learn all the songs well they once they've no no no
01:31no we
01:32but no we actually played it last summer which was really exciting um uh in london so no one was
01:39allowed to to bring phones or know what they were going to see um so that was great and we're
01:44going to
01:44play again uh at the uh palladium oh the palladium two nights there we got tickets to give away at
01:50some point we're going to do that while you guys are here so you get to give away some tickets
01:53to
01:53that show at the palladium where they'll get to hear the entire album and then we'll come back and
01:57play bigger places uh in the autumn well the uh the album um is going to be performed from start
02:03to
02:03finish but also there is an entire um video that is hand-drawn that goes with the album is that
02:09going
02:09to be i'm assuming that's going to be incorporated into the performance as well um to all gorillas
02:15fans out there there's been no um visuals really accompanying any of the releases because we've
02:21been waiting to um finish this eight eight and a half or eight minutes something like that it's a
02:26film it's hand it's it's hand-drawn it goes back to the the the techniques they used in the 60s
02:33uh in animation so it's absolutely stunning and zero ai zero ai zero zero no ai there there will
02:41always be zero ai i mean and so we didn't use computers at all not even computers well i mean
02:48you have to put things together in the end through a computer but it was all drawn on paper and
02:52stuff
02:53it's incredible which is you know backgrounds are painted hand-painted backgrounds it was just you
02:58wanted to wanted to go back to the the golden era of animated movies and you know referencing things
03:04like the jungle book or 101 dalmatians or just you know that that that period of of of of animation
03:12which was beautifully done those animations sell made by humans right that's that's i know that there's
03:17this very anti-ai and i i understand why it's either of you admit that you've never you've never used
03:24ai once not even to check a mole or anything oh my goodness i'll never do it something like
03:28firstly i don't know check a mole yeah upload a mole and say is this weird looking is this cancer
03:34exactly and i can tell you maybe really really recommend the ai says go to the doctor not self-diagnose
03:41through the internet it's so bad news i just think it in it so quickly ends up in something very
03:51uh like worrying well we're not saying we've i mean i've i've i've played around with it to see
03:57what it's capable of i don't have a telephone just doesn't excite you don't even have a cell phone
04:01no i don't have anything how do people get a hold of you um carry a pigeon well they have
04:06to connect
04:07contact people who know me or i've got i've got a uh a phone at home like a landline that's
04:14what
04:14they call it unbelievable oh my god so then hold on because you guys are traveling all the time you
04:19travel all over the world and i feel like my i'm so dependent on my phone when i'm traveling for
04:25google translator for even plane tickets and things like that how do you even get around people through
04:29emails you have an ipad i do have an ipad you don't have apps on your ipad apart from music
04:34carry around with me during the day though gorillas are almost amish is what we're learning today
04:38that's incredible that's really i am i am yeah that's correct and we learned actually actually
04:44you know i i i my my on my dad's side my grandparents were quakers so uh you have it
04:49in
04:50your blood i have it in me yeah yeah definitely this uh this album which we want to talk about
04:53i'm
04:53going to listen to orange county in a moment on k-rock is an interesting album because it is it's
04:57easy to say it's about death and you guys were very much inspired by the country of india but you
05:02had personal stuff going on although it's not a down sad death album it's actually believe it or not
05:07i guess a feel good death album and you have dead people that are on the album as well which
05:13is
05:14kind of incredible to think that you're able to resurrect all these people because that's always
05:17the theory is you're never really dead if you're still creating stuff yeah i mean when i just felt
05:21they they needed to be part of this because you know it's kind of weird kind of meditating on this
05:28subject and not bringing in everyone you know and so so we went through all the recordings we had
05:34to try and find anything that were that hadn't been used um some of them the engineers at the time
05:40have been very tidy and they cut everything so but but but the more messy engineers have left all this
05:46wonderful stuff you know we found so much and just work with it didn't really you know no real kind
05:53of
05:53agenda just sort of see if we can do something with it you know and uh sew it into our
05:59our tapestry that's
06:00incredible and uh we're going to listen to uh one of the singles from the album in a moment of
06:05course
06:05we're going to send you to go to the palladium if you'd like to go to the show you can
06:08call us now
06:08at 800-520-1067 shows on the 22nd and 23rd exclusive chance to see the new album the mountain
06:14performed live in full in its entirety and we'll do that after this quick break with more gorillas next
06:19on k-rock orange county by gorillas on k-rock gorillas in our studio right now that is on the
06:25brand new album
06:25which comes out soon enough guys it's been a while but we're waiting for it february 27th the mountain
06:30and uh probably the most whistling ever on us it's a lot of whistling it's a lot of whistling
06:35on a song about uh death uh or an album about but orange county inspired by orange county right here
06:40in southern california yeah i would originally originally i was going to do this this tune
06:45with peso pluma who has a studio in orange county so i came over last january um came over to
06:53orange
06:53county it didn't work out um not everything ever works out you know no reflection on anyone
06:59it's just the way uh yeah it's a process you know but you kept it but it gave it the
07:04song a name
07:05gave the song a name yeah gave the song i like i like how sort of oblique that name is
07:11in context
07:12and then how did the uh house of kong concept come together i mean obviously it's really cool having
07:18this art installation is this jamie just an opportunity to clear out your garage just get
07:22some old drawings back in uh well we felt it was necessary to do something for the 25th anniversary
07:29and that idea was suggested but i think both me and damon we don't do nostalgia too well we find
07:36it
07:36very problematic nostalgia yeah why uh we're going forwards because also it's i mean it's connected to
07:48a kind of politics and and and you know it's quite autocratic nostalgia it's sort of
07:56my wife and i actually argue about looking forward yeah and it's really it's it creates its own kind
08:02of atmosphere around it and people use that all the time to do bad things right well you romanticized
08:09yeah but the fans people no no got nothing to but but but it's a distraction sure sure but having
08:15said that we decided we worked with a company who we worked with a lot called swear who suggested a
08:21way
08:22of doing it that we found really interesting and then we got involved and the the exhibition's not what
08:30you would expect it's not just a regular exhibition something happens when you're in the exhibition and it
08:37takes you to uh it's a bit like there's a moment where you sort of feel like you're with the
08:42with
08:43the characters that's what i got from it last time it's happening february 26th through march 19th
08:48rolling greens downtown la and the details and tickets at house of kong.gorillas.com i know we
08:53gave away a bunch of those tickets uh when they first announced it so we're very lucky to be living
08:57in southern california where you have access to this and then we've got tickets right now that you guys get
09:01to give to a listener in orange county uh that would like to see you at the palladium so we
09:06will let you do
09:06the honors and this is a fan of yours uh by the name of melissa calling from huntington beach
09:10melissa you're on with gorillas good morning from huntington beach orange county good morning
09:15thank you guys so much you will be at their show at the palladium um so uh just don't do
09:22it don't
09:22yell out any requests because we're going to do the album from the beginning so enough of the just
09:26don't yell out stuff like clint eastwood okay i'm so excited this is awesome thank you guys so much
09:32it was a pleasure we look forward to seeing you uh that is that is melissa a listener of yours
09:37uh
09:37from right here in southern california and a ton of uh positive stuff coming through about that song
09:42people that have heard that for the first time i heard gorillas for the first time on k-rock
09:44heard blur for the first time on k-rock and to hear a new song on k-rock again all
09:48these years later
09:48it's incredible feels full circle for me that's a listener from the 818 who's writing in uh to thank you
09:53guys for being here uh the album which will be out again uh soon enough uh it's been many months
09:59since
09:59it's been done and as always we like to wrap up things here at k-rock by asking you not
10:03one but
10:03two epic questions these are questions that maybe have no answer but if anyone could come up with them
10:08it's you guys two two two epic two epic questions
10:18damon jamie creators gorillas in our studio ali give them with epic question number one hit them
10:24who would win in a fight gorillas the band or an actual gorilla if they were to go at it
10:30i mean
10:31if the gorilla if a gorilla was in the cartoon maybe the band but uh you know outside of the
10:38cartoon world that i'm gonna go with a real gorilla yeah that is the correct answer guys it was a
10:44great one was it yeah you got it right do i get a prize you get a prize tickets to
10:48your own show
10:49congrats 20 off house of kong congratulations speaking of tickets uh question number two epic
10:55question number two if the gallagher brothers were to ask you for free tickets to one of your shows
10:59course would you give them the free tickets or would you charge them full price free tickets of course
11:04always gives them the free tickets you know you know um k-rock was the only time that uh blur
11:11and oasis
11:12were on the same stage it was uh at the weenie roast and it was a rotating stage that's why
11:18we
11:18had to create the rotating stage because if it didn't rotate we thought you guys would fight so we
11:22had to rotate it so you guys kept away from each other that was the plan this is the real
11:27second
11:27question that was not it uh you're gonna be on snl for the first time ever this is very exciting
