00:00:00What a freestyle!
00:00:01Oh, what a go!
00:00:03Oh, look at that!
00:00:04Absolutely phenomenal!
00:00:06Rooney O'Connor!
00:00:08Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:50Hello, 25 goals tonight on a busy match of the day.
00:00:54Seven games from Saturday and one from Friday night.
00:00:57Alan Shearer and Danny Murphy are raring to go.
00:01:00They've watched every second of it.
00:01:02League leaders Arsenal booked their place in the League Cup final this week
00:01:05with victory over Chelsea.
00:01:07Visitors Sunderland have never won away at Arsenal in the Premier League.
00:01:11Commentary comes from Robin Cowan.
00:01:14Arsenal still fighting on four fronts,
00:01:16but the Premier League remains the competition they covet the most.
00:01:20It's been 22 years since the Gunners held the title.
00:01:23The supporters' understandable anxiety will only be relieved
00:01:26with victory this afternoon for another few days at least.
00:01:30It's two changes from last weekend's win over Leeds.
00:01:33Calafiore comes in at left back.
00:01:35Gabriel Jesus makes just his second Premier League start of the season.
00:01:39Kai Havertz keeps his place as an attacking midfielder.
00:01:42He scored two in his last three games, including the winner
00:01:45that sealed Arsenal's place in the League Cup final.
00:01:48Sunderland keep the same eleven that beat Burnley.
00:01:51Brian Brobby has three goals in his last six.
00:01:53He got the last-minute equaliser against the Gunners at the Stadium of Light in November.
00:01:57That preserved their unbeaten home record, one that still stands today.
00:02:02A new initiative has been launched this season, Premier League with Pride.
00:02:06This is the first weekend dedicated to celebrating and supporting the LGBTQ plus community,
00:02:12as well as highlighting the work that still needs to be done to make football fully inclusive.
00:02:19So no win ever in the Premier League for Sunderland against Arsenal.
00:02:23Their last victory against Arsenal in any competition came all the way back in February 2012
00:02:28in the FA Cup at the Stadium of Light.
00:02:30Mikel Arteta was in the Arsenal starting eleven that day.
00:02:39Trossard manages to get the cross in!
00:02:41It's an early opportunity!
00:02:44Trossard managing to dig out the cross.
00:02:47You've got to say Kai Havertz should be getting that on target at the very least.
00:02:54Accused of being slightly wasteful at times, Arsenal.
00:02:56who sometimes forgets that they start the weekend six points clear at the top of the Premier League.
00:03:06Foul is eventually given.
00:03:12Late from Calafiore.
00:03:19Oh, David Royer hasn't claimed it and Brobby!
00:03:21That shot was on target.
00:03:24Kai Havertz has had Arsenal's best opportunity in front of goal.
00:03:28He's managed to keep Sunderland's best opportunity out of his own nets here.
00:03:33Sunderland's captain Granit Xhaka denied a reunion on the pitch today against his former club due to an ankle injury.
00:03:42Here is Landreau Trossard.
00:03:44Here is Landreau Trossard.
00:03:45Here is Landreau Trossard.
00:03:49Rice!
00:03:52Robin Roos looks fairly confident that this was flying wide.
00:03:56Didn't quite get enough curl on it, Declan Rice.
00:04:07The Faye.
00:04:09Brobby.
00:04:10Well, Zubamendi has stayed down.
00:04:13The referee took quite some time to decide that was a foul.
00:04:18And not only that, he's going to give a yellow card for Brian Brobby.
00:04:23The on-field decision is confirmed.
00:04:28A natural motion in the foot.
00:04:32Zubamendi.
00:04:36Calafiore.
00:04:38Now Trossard.
00:04:44Sets it!
00:04:45Oh, it's there!
00:04:46A beautiful strike!
00:04:49Martin Zubamendi fires the gunners into the lead.
00:04:55Wonderful play from Trossard.
00:04:58A perfect set for him.
00:04:59Crying out to be hit by Zubamendi.
00:05:03Cuts across it beautifully.
00:05:05In off the post.
00:05:06Sweet and true from Zubamendi.
00:05:09His sixth goal of the season.
00:05:18Robbie wins the header.
00:05:21Trossard finds Havertz.
00:05:23Through for Gabriel Jesus.
00:05:25The flag has stayed down.
00:05:27It's Jesus!
00:05:28He's brought down.
00:05:30Surely penalty.
00:05:33The flag is up.
00:05:35Gabriel Jesus might be offside.
00:05:39Now, is he still in his own half?
00:05:41I think he's just about offside.
00:05:45Really not by much.
00:05:48Opportunity from the penalty spot.
00:05:50It's going to be taken away from Arsenal.
00:05:56Trossard leading the charge once again.
00:06:00Declan Rice.
00:06:02Was an option and said it's the reverse ball for Calafiore.
00:06:05And he's given it away to Brobby.
00:06:08And there's an overload on the right for Sunderland.
00:06:10This could spell danger.
00:06:13It's Diara.
00:06:17Very difficult chance from that sort of position.
00:06:20And now Sunderland.
00:06:21A little light.
00:06:24Havertz on the charge.
00:06:27It's Havertz!
00:06:32He missed a very good chance early on in this game.
00:06:36No one in a blue shirt was engaging.
00:06:39It opened up really nicely for him.
00:06:41And sends it wide.
00:06:48Now Hulme.
00:06:50Le Fay.
00:06:52Brobby.
00:06:56Oh, David Reier.
00:06:58Forced into a stop.
00:07:00It was Talby with the effort.
00:07:08Hulme.
00:07:09Hulme in the way.
00:07:09The scampering Trossard.
00:07:11It's towards Brobby.
00:07:13Great ball in.
00:07:16Really well worked.
00:07:17Bouncing the ball off each other.
00:07:19Siddiqui knew there wasn't a clear path to goal.
00:07:23Talby took it.
00:07:24And Reier spilt it.
00:07:25But no one in a blue shirt to follow up.
00:07:29Niall Quinn a guest at the Emirates.
00:07:32To observe two out of the three.
00:07:36Clubs who represented at senior level.
00:07:39With distinction.
00:07:41Nice idea towards Havertz.
00:07:44Kiele cuts that ball out.
00:07:48Gives it straight back to Leandro Trossard.
00:07:50Now Havertz.
00:07:52Jokeres!
00:07:57And that should be that.
00:08:01Arsenal were patient.
00:08:03Winning it back.
00:08:05High up the pitch.
00:08:06Pinning Sunderland in.
00:08:08Trossard again.
00:08:10At the heart of it.
00:08:13Havertz.
00:08:13Finding Jokeres on the stretch.
00:08:16As he slipped.
00:08:17Finding the back of the net.
00:08:18They all count.
00:08:20And this one.
00:08:21Means that those Arsenal supporters can rest a little easy now.
00:08:25Arsenal two. Sunderland nil.
00:08:32Ballard couldn't take it down.
00:08:34Or Ranildo.
00:08:36Stuttered.
00:08:37And Arsenal are in here.
00:08:39It's Martinelli.
00:08:41Jokeres!
00:08:45At the double.
00:08:47Rounds off a very productive afternoon for Arsenal.
00:08:51There was a tired ball in.
00:08:54Norgaard's clearance.
00:08:55Fell to Martinelli.
00:08:57Ranildo didn't know whether to stick or twist.
00:09:00And Gabriel Martinelli playing in Jokeres.
00:09:04Unselfish.
00:09:05To tee up his teammate.
00:09:08Routine.
00:09:09Comfortable.
00:09:12Very few moments of jeopardy from an Arsenal perspective.
00:09:16Exactly what was required.
00:09:19Playing every three days.
00:09:20We just played a huge semi-final here a few days ago.
00:09:23And to go again in that manner with that commitment every single player.
00:09:27It's just great to watch.
00:09:29And the other thing is the quality that we can bring.
00:09:32And the intensity.
00:09:33And how prepared the players are to go and impact the game.
00:09:36I think we showed character and personality.
00:09:39With and without the ball.
00:09:41I think we even were dominant at the beginning of the second half.
00:09:44With a couple of opportunities.
00:09:46We didn't seize those opportunities.
00:09:48And if we don't catch those ones, I think the game is over.
00:09:53The result helps when we're 1-0 up.
00:09:55And they tried to chase an equalizer.
00:09:58And then, yeah, it was of course nice to take the chances and to help the team.
00:10:04So it was a good Saturday.
00:10:05Today, he saw the line-up.
00:10:07I told him, you're going to come in.
00:10:08You're going to have a big impact in the game.
00:10:10And he was ready for it.
00:10:11And that's a joy.
00:10:12Because that means that we can change the game in different ways.
00:10:16And this has made the difference when it came on.
00:10:19Well, they're enjoying a lot at the Emirates.
00:10:21This is Arsenal's home record.
00:10:22And no surprise that the team who are top of the table do have the best home record.
00:10:27But when you look at what that's built on.
00:10:29That incredible defence is there as well.
00:10:30With seven clean sheets.
00:10:32And an XG of less than eight across their home games so far.
00:10:35This looked like another comfortable victory for them, Alan.
00:10:39What did you make of the performance?
00:10:40I thought they were very professional without being brilliant.
00:10:43And also using their squad strength really, really well in terms of the subs that they brought on.
00:10:50They had a couple of players out of Inter.
00:10:51But I thought Sunderland did really well.
00:10:54And caused some problems for Arsenal.
00:10:56And frustrated them at times.
00:10:58That should have been in the back of the net there with a mistake from Raya.
00:11:02Probably should have put it in.
00:11:03But this is what Sunderland did really well, I thought.
00:11:05They got men behind the ball.
00:11:07And at times they frustrated Arsenal and made it very difficult for them.
00:11:11And as I said, could have scored one or two themselves.
00:11:14And it took a summer signing that cost 60 million.
00:11:18And it took a piece of brilliance because Sunderland, again, they had that many men behind the ball.
00:11:23That's what it was going to take.
00:11:25Just something to unlock that defence.
00:11:27And it was a brilliant strike from Zubamendi.
00:11:30But again, you can see the numbers behind.
00:11:33And then all of a sudden, I said, using their squad strength.
00:11:36They bring on Jokeres.
00:11:38They bring on Martinelli.
00:11:39They've got no Saka who's out injured.
00:11:41No Odgaard who's out injured.
00:11:42And the same thing again.
00:11:43They've got men behind the ball.
00:11:45And Sunderland were always in this game.
00:11:47They were always in it and making it difficult for them.
00:11:50But then the clearance doesn't work.
00:11:51They find themselves in a good position.
00:11:53Jokeres comes on.
00:11:55He gets his first goal there.
00:11:56And then the ball comes into the box.
00:11:58And then another substitute plays a huge part in the goal in Martinelli.
00:12:03It's a game Arsenal had to win.
00:12:05But as I said, there was nothing spectacular about them.
00:12:08But they were very, very professional.
00:12:10And he puts it on the plate for Jokeres.
00:12:12And there was no coming back from that.
00:12:14So that is three big, big, big points for Arsenal.
00:12:17You can see Jokeres there.
00:12:19Most goals in all competitions.
00:12:21In 2026.
00:12:23So the goals are starting to flow for him as well.
00:12:25But they've got so many options.
00:12:27Yeah, so many attacking options for Arsenal.
00:12:29And as Alan said, it's a really big three points that takes them nine clear of Manchester City.
00:12:34You've still got the game at Anfield against Liverpool to come this weekend.
00:12:37But anybody waiting for these Arsenal nerves to kick in is having a longer and longer wait, Danny.
00:12:43Yeah, well, it's a must win for City.
00:12:44But you have to say, since they lost to United, Arsenal, they've won four on the spin in all comps.
00:12:48Yeah.
00:12:49They're in a League Cup final.
00:12:50They've finished top of the Champions League group.
00:12:52It doesn't look like a side that's nervous.
00:12:54They've got good competition for places.
00:12:56They can win games when they don't play very well.
00:12:58They're the best team at the moment.
00:12:59And if City don't win tomorrow, you've got to say it's game over, I think.
00:13:05And far from looking nervous, are they almost composed, Alan?
00:13:08No, but I think there's so many people waiting for a slip up that when you see a performance like
00:13:13that today, and that's fine.
00:13:15They don't have to be brilliant every game.
00:13:16They just have to find ways to win games.
00:13:18And they've done that today.
00:13:20So there's not from, I don't think from their side, there's no panic at all.
00:13:22And no set plays today.
00:13:24Yes.
00:13:24And every goal came from open play as well for Arsenal.
00:13:28Manchester United were looking to make it four wins in a row under Michael Carrick.
00:13:32They faced a Spurs side that had gone six Premier League games without a win.
00:13:36Commentary comes from Guy Mowbray.
00:13:39On behalf of their clubs, Michael Carrick and Thomas Frank lead the commemorations for the Munich air disaster,
00:13:46which happened 68 years ago yesterday, claiming the lives of 23 people, including 11 Manchester United players and staff.
00:13:55It is the foundation for everything this football club became and is today.
00:14:03The United team is the same one that started against Fulham last Sunday.
00:14:07And that means a 100th appearance in the Premier League for a rejuvenated Casemiro.
00:14:13For Spurs, three changes from their proper game of two halves against Manchester City.
00:14:18Mickey van der Ven returns after injury and starts two for Pab Matassar and Wilson Oduber.
00:14:23Dragasin, Bissouma and Colin Mouane all dropped to the bench.
00:14:29It's a lively enough game down in North London when these sides came together in early November.
00:14:352-2.
00:14:37And it all happened late in that one as well.
00:14:40Could happen early for Manchester United today with Bruno Fernandes leading the charge and finding Embermo!
00:14:47Who couldn't find the net, but it certainly laid down a marker for the rest of the early afternoon.
00:14:53And Embermo just got his head down and hit it.
00:14:56Hope for the best.
00:14:58Embermo, of course, today up against his old boss Thomas Frank.
00:15:06Simons.
00:15:10That was Gallagher.
00:15:13Trying to sweep it past Lammans.
00:15:15It's a good opportunity.
00:15:16Lammans was ready for it and he didn't really connect with it.
00:15:20Cool head Carrick.
00:15:21Feet on the ground.
00:15:23Let's not get carried away was his message this week.
00:15:25And perhaps as much if not more than anybody.
00:15:28He's mindful of the fact that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had a terrific start as Manchester United boss as well.
00:15:34Dalot to Cunha!
00:15:38I think Vicario had a feeling it was going wide.
00:15:43Lovely first time effort though.
00:15:46That was the referee's view of Matthias Cunha's bending effort.
00:15:50It wasn't far away from giving United the lead.
00:15:55Bruno Fernandes on the run.
00:15:58Missed by Romero.
00:16:01He was ready for whatever Cunha was trying to do.
00:16:04Romero then goes into Casemiro.
00:16:07Both players hurt.
00:16:08And it's a red card for Cristian Romero.
00:16:11Casemiro is down and stayed down.
00:16:15Romero goes again.
00:16:17For the sixth time in his Spurs career.
00:16:22Casemiro was getting there.
00:16:24Romero was getting there come what may.
00:16:27He took everything but look at that challenge.
00:16:30There isn't a video assistant referee in the world who'd overturned that.
00:16:34And you just wonder what's going on in that head.
00:16:36He's had so much to say this week.
00:16:39He's brought so much attention on himself.
00:16:41And then he does that.
00:16:43And that's the Tottenham Hotspur captain.
00:16:46It has to be different when you wear the armband.
00:16:50What was it Thomas Frank said after that rollercoaster game against Manchester City last week?
00:16:54I prefer it going more smooth.
00:16:57But this is football.
00:16:59Good time again Thomas.
00:17:02Martinez.
00:17:05Nice taken turn from Cunha.
00:17:07Siemens have read the pass.
00:17:08Good challenge from Cunha.
00:17:10I think that was deflected.
00:17:12It was.
00:17:12It's going to be a corner.
00:17:14Bruno Fernandes once again not hanging around in his ambitions to beat Vicario.
00:17:23Bruno Fernandes with a flat one to Mehnu.
00:17:26Here's Embermo.
00:17:27Oh!
00:17:28Brilliantly worked.
00:17:31And passed into the corner by Brian Embermo.
00:17:36Embermo into double figures of goals as a United forward.
00:17:40Mehnu made the move.
00:17:42Nobody went with him.
00:17:43How about this though for a slot from Embermo?
00:17:47If it was fully intended, did he catch it as he wanted to?
00:17:51Oh, let's not quibble about it.
00:17:53I think he did.
00:17:55Tucked in.
00:17:58Michael Carrick's plan comes together.
00:18:00It's Manchester United won Tottenham Hotspur nil.
00:18:04With a whole lot of reorganising to do.
00:18:07We can only presume that he said something inspiring and made some really useful changes last weekend.
00:18:13He's going to have to do it again.
00:18:15There's Cunha.
00:18:16Turned behind by Pallina.
00:18:19By the time Frank does give those words at the interval, it's imperative for Spurs that the gaps only still
00:18:25one.
00:18:26Embermo.
00:18:27Goal scorer.
00:18:28Now corner taker.
00:18:33Soon to be crosser.
00:18:36That's Casimiro and it's tipped over the top by Vicario.
00:18:42Mightily close to two.
00:18:52Sure.
00:18:55That was a risky one.
00:18:57A curious one.
00:18:58Here's Xavi Simmonds!
00:19:03Must have been close judging by his reaction.
00:19:06It's a proper good go that.
00:19:11Thomas Frank is a non-stop bundle of energy and instructions.
00:19:16Casimiro.
00:19:18Now Luke Shaw.
00:19:19There'll be cries of shoot.
00:19:21And he does!
00:19:26Let's see how much this was moving in the air.
00:19:29Looking at the way that Vicario contorted his body to save it.
00:19:33I'd say plenty.
00:19:35Certainly travelled.
00:19:37Now a United corner.
00:19:40Embermo.
00:19:42Vicario stays back.
00:19:43Maguire trying to hold his ground.
00:19:45He's claimed that he was being fouled.
00:19:48Here's Dalot.
00:19:49He's going to have a crack.
00:19:51Another one repelled by Vicario.
00:19:54Both Manchester United full backs have their eyes on the jackpot.
00:19:59This is what Maguire was asking about.
00:20:01Well, he's got a case hasn't he?
00:20:04Vandevene just wrapped his arm around.
00:20:06No sense of challenging for the ball.
00:20:08Play went on for Dalot to try that.
00:20:11Well watched by Vicario who's been busy.
00:20:14And might only get busier before the afternoon is out.
00:20:21Menuh to Dalot.
00:20:22Dalot looking for Cescou.
00:20:24Dino Fernandes is behind him!
00:20:28And he may well have sealed it.
00:20:31Really nicely finished.
00:20:33And I think the game is as well.
00:20:37It's a really tough one for the Manchester United captain because it came over Cescou and two Spurs defenders who
00:20:44you might have thought one of them would have got it.
00:20:47And Bruno Fernandes kind of caresses the ball with his shin.
00:20:52I think he knew how that was going to arrive and got the contact he needed.
00:20:57It's the goal that Manchester United have needed for quite a while.
00:21:00It's 2-0.
00:21:07Vissouma.
00:21:11Up towards Ahmad.
00:21:13Ahmad has Bruno Fernandes with him.
00:21:16And will try and time the pass to his captain.
00:21:20Cescou's in the box unmarked!
00:21:21Oh, had to score!
00:21:24It's the last touch of the game and it really should have finished.
00:21:283-0 to Manchester United instead of the two that it is.
00:21:33It won't take any of the shine away for Michael Carrick though.
00:21:37The former Spurs man who became a fully-fledged Old Trafford stalwart has made a flying start in his time
00:21:45as the head coach here.
00:21:47Manchester United 2, Tottenham Holtz for 0.
00:21:49I thought the boys got the balance right.
00:21:51You can see that they're playing with confidence and the expression side of the game is certainly there.
00:21:56We need to keep that.
00:21:58There's things we can work on and keep improving.
00:22:00We've been together for three or four weeks.
00:22:03We want to keep striving for more, but it's great.
00:22:05The next time we're part of the game.
00:22:07Goal malfunction is what we love.
00:22:09Can I ask you about your goal?
00:22:11Off the shin, but I reckon you meant it.
00:22:13Yeah, because I think that if you go with your feet, the probability of the ball going very, very high
00:22:19is big because it's bouncing in front of you.
00:22:22Some people will say that it was not meant it, but it was actually meant it because I knew the
00:22:25ball then would have gone straight into the floor and Vicario there has to move with the ball.
00:22:30So I just tried to go across him to make him not able to jump and get the ball there
00:22:34and he almost got it.
00:22:35The red card is the big incident.
00:22:37After this week of all weeks, it's the last thing you needed, your captain needed, the club needed.
00:22:41Do you have an issue to solve with him now?
00:22:43I just think it's the perfect storm.
00:22:47Of course, it was today.
00:22:49It should have happened.
00:22:51It is what it is.
00:22:52I think it's clear that the situation is EU have now seen it through five times just to be absolutely
00:22:57clear.
00:22:58You know, it's clearly tried to tackle the ball.
00:23:00The ball just left and then it's a follow through and then unfortunately it's a red card.
00:23:04Well, since Thomas Frank mentions it, let's talk about the red card before we get on to Manchester United's performance
00:23:09and series of performances.
00:23:10Christian Romero, and we heard Guy mention it there to Thomas Frank, posted after the game last week where he
00:23:16had to come up at half-time ill that it was disgraceful that Spurs only had 11 fit players to
00:23:21select from.
00:23:22Now they have won fewer for the next four matches because he got himself sent off correctly in your opinion?
00:23:28Yeah, absolutely.
00:23:29Michael Oliver gets it absolutely right.
00:23:32You can't tackle like that in today's game.
00:23:36And he's got to show better leadership and he's said what he said in whatever post he's done on Instagram
00:23:42or whatever it was on, but leaders are the ones who perform for the team and makes other players around
00:23:47them better.
00:23:48And now he's going to be missing for four games and Tottenham just do not need that.
00:23:53But absolutely it was a red card.
00:23:56Danny?
00:23:56Yeah.
00:23:57Thomas Frank can't be blamed for this today.
00:23:59He's to blame.
00:24:01They were in the game when he was on the pitch and when he's gone off and give the team
00:24:04a mountain to climb.
00:24:05And, you know, I'm sure one or two of the lads at half-time went in and said the piece.
00:24:08Well, I hope they did anyway, because it makes life really difficult.
00:24:12And is the captain this record of most red cards in the Premier League since he's made his debut in
00:24:16August 2021.
00:24:17How concerning is that?
00:24:19How worried should Tottenham be about that?
00:24:21Very concerned.
00:24:21Yeah.
00:24:22Well, I mean, you said it.
00:24:23He's going to have four games because it's his second red card this season.
00:24:26So, you know.
00:24:27And he could have had one or three more.
00:24:28Yeah.
00:24:29From Manchester United's point of view, it's another win under Michael Carrick.
00:24:34Nothing changes except maybe it did a little bit, Danny.
00:24:36Well, you'd have been forgiven for thinking he'd just put the same team out, same formation.
00:24:41And he didn't.
00:24:42He made a great little tweak and it worked perfectly.
00:24:4511 v 11 United are opening Spurs up and making chances.
00:24:48He played Bruno and Cunha as two 10s or two false nines, whatever you want to say.
00:24:52He moved Mbumo.
00:24:53He's been playing centre-forward out to the left.
00:24:55And Ahmad was on the right.
00:24:57And what it did with two intelligent players like these two, it gave the Tottenham centre-halves a real problem.
00:25:02Do we go in and follow them or do we drop off?
00:25:04Does the midfield three?
00:25:05Any two of the three Tottenham players drop in.
00:25:07This is the first minute.
00:25:09Look at the space Bruno's got.
00:25:10He's playing some of the best footballers of his career.
00:25:12And surely the game plan was to try and stop him getting on the ball.
00:25:15That's an early warning.
00:25:16Here again, one coming to feet in space.
00:25:18The other one, no one picking him up.
00:25:20Of course, as I said, they're talented boys.
00:25:23They are really special footballers.
00:25:24But you have to set a plan to stop the best players.
00:25:27When the ball eventually comes to Bruno here, again, you expect him to score.
00:25:31But how can he be in that much space?
00:25:33And this is the little tweet Carrick made that I thought I was really impressed with.
00:25:36And he's obviously a, you know, really football thinking man and tries to find different ways.
00:25:41And Cunha, again, asking for the ball because he knows he's in space.
00:25:44I think it's Paulino trying to get back in there.
00:25:46No communication.
00:25:48And time and time again.
00:25:49This is all 11 v 11, by the way.
00:25:51Ahmad's got two options here.
00:25:52Look, he can play.
00:25:53Bruno is free.
00:25:54Centre-halves are too deep.
00:25:55Midfielders aren't coming back quickly enough.
00:25:57Cunha was free.
00:25:59The goal instigated by Bruno, of course.
00:26:02Little clever move.
00:26:03Little clever corner set playing.
00:26:05And Bruno fires one into the bottom corner.
00:26:06Now that's against 10, of course.
00:26:08You expect them to go and dominate the second half.
00:26:10But similar things happened.
00:26:12Clever players getting in intelligent positions.
00:26:16Linking up together.
00:26:17Starting to enjoy themselves.
00:26:18Getting lots of the ball.
00:26:19And it's only a great block here.
00:26:20Stops Bruno getting another shot off.
00:26:23Cunha had gone off at this point.
00:26:25But Bruno got his goal with a wonderful finish.
00:26:27And topped off a brilliant performance.
00:26:29Considering actually he had one of his poor performances last week.
00:26:32I did the game against Fulham.
00:26:33And he wasn't at his best.
00:26:35But at the moment, he's arguably the best number 10 in Europe.
00:26:38And because of that, these stats that Michael Carrick is putting on the board
00:26:41don't look like a flash in the pan.
00:26:44Do they look sustainable?
00:26:46I mean, it'll be hard to keep going with these numbers.
00:26:48These are phenomenal numbers.
00:26:50He'll be much happier seeing those after 10 games, let's say.
00:26:53But he can't have asked for a better start.
00:26:55They're playing good football.
00:26:56The fans are on board.
00:26:57The players look confident.
00:26:58They're enjoying themselves.
00:27:00Not fun, is it?
00:27:01It is if you're a Manchester United fan.
00:27:04Now, having gone three without a win in the Premier League.
00:27:08Newcastle welcomed this season's surprise package Brentford to St James' Park.
00:27:12Commentary comes from Martin Fisher.
00:27:16Remarkably, this is Newcastle's only home match and a challenging eight-game spell.
00:27:21They've been strong here this season.
00:27:24Anita picked me up after Wednesday's disappointments in the Carabao Cup.
00:27:28Brentford have been excellent on the road recently, but their last success here was in 1934.
00:27:34Bruno Gümmerich is back for Newcastle after missing the last four games with an ankle injury.
00:27:41Johan Wisser starts against his former club.
00:27:43For the Bees, Keane-Louis-Posse replaces the suspended Kevin Scharder.
00:27:50There's never been a goalless draw between these two.
00:27:53In fact, in the Premier League there have been a glut of goals.
00:27:5737 scored in nine games.
00:28:00Let the fun commence.
00:28:02Botlin got his head to it, it might drop invitingly here for Lewis-Posse.
00:28:06Was he held back by Trippier?
00:28:08Andy Madley not impressed.
00:28:13Keane-Louis-Posse made the most of it, but there's definite contact there from Trippier
00:28:17as he grabs hold of the Brentford man's jersey.
00:28:22Checks and cleared.
00:28:25Intelligent ball into space for Willock.
00:28:27Adger across for Brentford.
00:28:28Wisser and Murphy are in the box.
00:28:31Gümmerich just arriving.
00:28:32So too is Hall that it's turned behind before it can reach the left-back.
00:28:44In by Gümmerich.
00:28:46Keeper can't get to it!
00:28:47And he's headed home!
00:28:50Sven Portman on his 100th appearance for Newcastle
00:28:55has his first ever goal at St James's Park.
00:28:59Dutch Delight.
00:29:01Newcastle in front.
00:29:03And he's done it in front of the Gallagher.
00:29:09Trippier, what a beautiful ball that is for Barnes.
00:29:15Hall.
00:29:17Saw a gap.
00:29:18Burst through it.
00:29:18Great ball in!
00:29:20And Wisser stabs it goalwards and it's cleared off the line by Jan Elks.
00:29:26It looked in all the world as though it was going to be number two for Newcastle,
00:29:30but Jan Elk was in the right position at the right moment.
00:29:34In the Premier League, Newcastle boasts the third worst record of holding on to winning positions.
00:29:41So Brentford shouldn't be too demoralised just yet.
00:29:46Batara.
00:29:48Now having a run at Trippier.
00:29:52Great cross!
00:29:53And headed home at the back post!
00:29:55Vitaly Janel makes it 1-1.
00:29:57Great response from the Bees.
00:30:01Magnificent delivery by Dango Watara.
00:30:05And Vitaly Janel is the beneficiary.
00:30:08His first goal of this season.
00:30:10But it owes so, so much to this ball in from Dango Watara.
00:30:15It's a gem.
00:30:16And Jan Elks steers it home.
00:30:20And Brentford are level.
00:30:23Thanks, pal.
00:30:25Newcastle 1, Brentford 1.
00:30:34Oh, that's careless.
00:30:35Gimaraish quickly on to Tonale.
00:30:42Disappointing centre, but it's not the grace of the balls from Henderson that Lewis Potter had to get a move
00:30:46on to clear towards Thiago, who's helped it on to Coyote.
00:30:52Here's the danger man, Watara, on the left foot.
00:30:55Puts Trippier down on his backside and tees it up for Jensen.
00:30:59What a chance!
00:31:00Shout for penalty given.
00:31:03Jacob Murphy.
00:31:06Yellow carded for handball.
00:31:09And referee Andy Madley could not have had a better view of that.
00:31:13It's a poor effort in the end from Matthias Jensen.
00:31:16And in this day and age, that is a penalty every day of the week.
00:31:23It's Thiago for Brentford and a 2-1 lead.
00:31:28Terrific spot kick.
00:31:30And from one behind, Brentford have turned this around.
00:31:34And Jacob Murphy's handball punished with a perfect penalty from Igor Thiago.
00:31:41Brentford will look to see this through for their fourth away win in their last five trips.
00:31:51Botman.
00:31:53Waltemada was slightly on his heels, but it will run through for Wisser.
00:31:56A chance to turn this right for Trippier.
00:31:58Got a lot of room far side.
00:32:00Alanga, Waltemada and Barnsler in the middle.
00:32:02Was that handball by Henry?
00:32:05Strong shouts from Trippier.
00:32:07The arm behind the back, and the ball touches the top of his chest.
00:32:13On-field decision confirmed.
00:32:23Ciao.
00:32:26He's going to have a blast here, he is.
00:32:29Great save by Callaghan.
00:32:32That's a firm strike that from the German.
00:32:35Well dealt with by Cuevin Callaghan.
00:32:43Coyote won that well, but now a chance for Asula on the counter for Newcastle.
00:32:48Can he get his head up here?
00:32:49Bruno Gimaraes away to his right, he's come left instead for Alanga.
00:32:53Boddy's falling in the middle.
00:32:56Gimaraes down, Asula down.
00:32:58Coyote down.
00:32:59And the referee has called a halt to proceedings as VAR checked for a possible penalty.
00:33:05Just keep your eye on Bruno Gimaraes in the middle here.
00:33:08Coyote is the defender coming across.
00:33:11And he just appears to catch his trailing leg with his leading left leg.
00:33:20After review, there is a careless trip by the Blue 33.
00:33:24My final decision is penalty kick.
00:33:27Penalty given.
00:33:31Bruno Gimaraes accepts the responsibility.
00:33:34But Callaghan, with three penalty saves out of six this season in the Premier League, will take some beating.
00:33:41But he is beaten.
00:33:43And we're level at St James'.
00:33:45And the returning skipper is the local hero again.
00:33:52It's 2-2, with everything to play for, with 12 to go.
00:34:03What a ding-dong battle this one has been.
00:34:08Well, that's a lovely ball from Jenson.
00:34:10Watara is in, and Watara thumps it home for 3-2 Brentford.
00:34:15Well, he scored a screamer to win at Villa Park a week ago.
00:34:20And Dango Watara has silent St James' Park.
00:34:24And this is a magnificent ball from Matthias Jenson.
00:34:28Watara took aim, fires, and Brentford are back in front and on course for their first win at St James'
00:34:37Park since 1934.
00:34:45You're making this a bit of a habit, winning on the road. What's the secret?
00:34:48Very good question. I think we just put the workout in every single week.
00:34:52I think we all know how difficult it is to play against Newcastle, especially at this ground.
00:34:57We said the same last week, Villa way.
00:35:00Now we've got six points. I think everyone is buzzing and we have to keep going.
00:35:03Dango Watara, magnificent ball in for that equaliser and then a really calm, collected finish.
00:35:09Yeah, he's growing all the time. I speak about him being part of the group and been a disjointed season
00:35:17because he went to AFCON.
00:35:18Started on the right, went to the left, your right, the cross was sensational.
00:35:21And then the finish was just outstanding. He's concentrating behind, he's constantly evolving his game and he's a big part
00:35:27of our group.
00:35:29Strange game because I think at 2-2 you think we're the team that's going to go on and win
00:35:33that game.
00:35:33We had ascendancy in the second half, I thought it was much better.
00:35:37But the game got away from us with a really poor third goal.
00:35:40Possibly it could be Europe next season?
00:35:43I'll certainly be going there on holiday in the summer and that's the only way we'll speak about that word
00:35:48for the foreseeable future.
00:35:49It was a really enjoyable end-to-end game unless you're watching from a Newcastle United perspective.
00:35:56That's 11 goals they've conceded in the final 10 minutes in the game in the Premier League this season.
00:36:02Nobody has conceded more in that time.
00:36:06And Brentford were able to take advantage of that through Dango Watara who had a fantastic game.
00:36:12Yeah, he was outstanding.
00:36:15Actually he did, he started on the right-hand side but then they shifted him to the left-hand side.
00:36:20I mean this cross, oh my God, into Jan out who was also superb in the game.
00:36:24That is an unbelievable cross and a fantastic header and he was a constant threat for Brentford today.
00:36:31Everything he did, I thought, was measured.
00:36:34Great skill, pace, ability to run with the ball and he did this so many times, the check.
00:36:40We'll talk about this penalty in a minute but it was him that played a huge part in getting there.
00:36:47Whether it was right, left, he gets his goal here.
00:36:49He strikes it so well, Port perhaps should do better but he catches it superbly well on the half volley.
00:36:55The power he gets behind it and the direction.
00:36:59Yeah, and Newcastle couldn't really handle him.
00:37:02He's back on the right-hand side on this one again and we saw the same again.
00:37:06The little chop again as if to say, I'm going to shoot with the left but comes back in on
00:37:09the right.
00:37:10Perhaps should do better but he was absolutely outstanding and what a job Keith Andrews is doing with that Brentford
00:37:15team.
00:37:16He's rinsing every bit of ability out of his players and doing so, so well.
00:37:20Yeah, sitting in seventh place in the table at the moment.
00:37:23A penalty award in that game for handball.
00:37:27Let's tee up, Alan, by setting up the situation, Danny.
00:37:31Yeah, I mean, I think that when we saw it, we felt it was a penalty
00:37:35and then you look at it a bit more and you think, well, his arm comes down to a more
00:37:39natural position
00:37:40so maybe it's not but looking at it, he's bringing it down towards the ball
00:37:45so it would be fair to say that the officials think that he's gone from unnatural towards a natural
00:37:50but it's one of those things, under the handball law, they've got it right.
00:37:55Let's say, I think the officials have got it right.
00:37:57But it's a difficult one to keep seeing players get penalties given
00:38:02when actually you can't get your arm out of the way but that's the problem with the law, Al, isn't
00:38:06it?
00:38:07It's probably a penalty, yeah, under the law but the law is just terrible.
00:38:11I mean, there's so many things, that natural, unnatural proximity.
00:38:16I mean, it's just absolutely ridiculous.
00:38:18Just go back to, is it deliberate handball or not? So much simpler.
00:38:22And you think that one wasn't deliberate handball?
00:38:25Because that's where the grey area here is, the movement of Jacob Murphy's arm.
00:38:28He's just trying to get his arm inside and the ball's hit his arm under the law, yes, it's probably
00:38:33a penalty
00:38:33but they've just got themselves in such a mess with so many wording over the year.
00:38:39I think what they could say, it's gone down as an undeliberate handball, accidental handball, sorry.
00:38:45But you could argue that bringing it towards the ball is a deliberate act
00:38:50and if he'd have moved his arm up, it'd have gone through.
00:38:54So, I get why they've given it, but I agree with Al, I'm not a big fan of the law.
00:38:57I'd like to go back to deliberate handball, so much simpler.
00:39:01But the problems are deeper than that at Newcastle at the moment.
00:39:04Nine goals conceded in their last three, we looked at the goals they're conceding in the last ten minutes of
00:39:08games.
00:39:09Anyhow, probably under the most pressure that he's been since he's been in charge of Newcastle.
00:39:13Are they mitigating circumstances or is it justified?
00:39:16Yeah, he's having a really tough time, the toughest time since he's been at Newcastle
00:39:19but I think it was a tough situation in the summer, we know with the ISAC situation
00:39:24and with no sporting director.
00:39:26But there's no doubt their summer signings, other than Malik Chow, haven't worked as yet.
00:39:32They've spent an absolute fortune on four players and they're yet to get anywhere near the heights
00:39:38that they did at other football clubs.
00:39:40And that is a huge problem for Eddie and for Newcastle.
00:39:44And until they solve that, I'm not sure it will get better.
00:39:48Next, there's a big game at the bottom of the table at Turf Moor.
00:39:52A win for host Burnley would reduce the gap between them and visiting West Ham to just two points.
00:39:57Connor McNamara, watch this one.
00:40:01For the last 11 league games, there has been no movement to the relegation zone.
00:40:07Wolves bottom and these two side by side above them.
00:40:10Burnley in 19th place, starting today five points behind West Ham in 18th.
00:40:17Scott Parker was vocally critical of his side's performance, losing 3-0 at Sunderland.
00:40:22He makes two changes today with Hannibal Mebry coming back into the midfield.
00:40:26And joint top scorer Zeon Fleming leading the attack up front.
00:40:29Nuno EspÃritu Santo makes three changes from West Ham's defeat at Chelsea.
00:40:34Interestingly, there's a change in goal.
00:40:36Mads Hermansen preferred to Alfonso Reona, who's not injured but dropped to the bench.
00:40:42Axel Di Sassi, on loan from Chelsea, makes his West Ham debut in place of the suspended Tadipo.
00:40:48And Callum Wilson joins the attack.
00:40:51Last time these sides met was back in November.
00:40:55It was a thrilling game with two late goals.
00:40:58West Ham won by three goals to two in the end.
00:41:02Somerville.
00:41:05It's an attacking team that Nuno EspÃritu sent to his league today.
00:41:09Somerville takes on Kyle Walker, goes down in the penalty area.
00:41:12Now the referee Darren England points for a goal kick.
00:41:15He's managed to just about stay on the right side of the law here.
00:41:20It has been checked and cleared.
00:41:21And that has seemed to be a normal coming together of two players jostling for the ball.
00:41:27They haven't won any of the last seven Premier League games against West Ham.
00:41:32And this victory over today's opponents was back in the behind closed doors summer of 2020.
00:41:42Esteve looking for Jadon Anthony.
00:41:45The sack a little bit uncomfortable but he dealt with it well.
00:41:49Callum Wilson allows the ball to roll for Mateusz Fernandes.
00:41:52And now Crescencio Somerville.
00:41:54And he's nicked it over the goalkeeper to score.
00:41:57It's an early lead for West Ham in this crucial game in the relegation battle.
00:42:05He's now scored in five games in a row in all competitions.
00:42:13Nuno EspÃritu Santos team who have scored more goals in the opening 15 minutes of Premier League games this campaign
00:42:20than any other team in the top flight.
00:42:23Burnley who have conceded more than their fair share of early goals feel the sting.
00:42:28The weight of the pass into his path, a key element there.
00:42:33As Crescencio Somerville continues this wonderful run that he's been on.
00:43:00It's been a whirlwind of an opening 25 minutes for West Ham.
00:43:04And already Burnley looked to be in big trouble today.
00:43:10Nuno EspÃritu Santos team who gave away a two goal lead to lose last weekend.
00:43:17Surely Lightning's not going to strike twice in that regard.
00:43:21All about the delivery here.
00:43:24Elhanji Malikju, given the time and the space to lay it onto the forehead of Kistianos.
00:43:32Burnley 0, West Ham United 2.
00:43:39Still in play for Kyle Walker.
00:43:44Hannibal Mabry.
00:43:47Edwards.
00:43:50Trying to get the ankle.
00:43:51Worth a goal.
00:43:53Marcus Edwards.
00:43:56He had the bend.
00:43:57He had the whip.
00:43:58He just needed a little bit more of both there.
00:44:03And here is Lucas Pérez.
00:44:07Bashir Humphreys who continued the run from central defence.
00:44:09Fleming got up well.
00:44:10They appealed when it came off an arm.
00:44:13The on-field decision is to play on.
00:44:15It came off the upper body of de Sassé.
00:44:18But I don't think his arms were in an unnatural position if in fact it hit the defender's arms at
00:44:23all.
00:44:28They are seeking some positivity on a day that has very much gone against them so far.
00:44:34Estet.
00:44:36To Schloren.
00:44:39Fleming.
00:44:40Might get another chance.
00:44:42Mavropados hesitates.
00:44:44And Edwards can't turn it in.
00:44:47The most unfortunate look to concede there.
00:44:49Marcus Edwards still going.
00:44:52Now Mavropados puts it out for the corner.
00:44:56Three chances in one there.
00:45:04Sent in by Jay Divan today.
00:45:06That's your Humphreys at the back stick.
00:45:08Fleming threw himself at it.
00:45:10Barely just can't squeeze it in.
00:45:14It was a great effort here.
00:45:16The flying header from Zion Fleming.
00:45:18Bravely throwing himself at it.
00:45:20But West Ham's rear guard stands for...
00:45:28Humphreys.
00:45:29Bowen's done really well to steal in behind.
00:45:32And then he flashes it in front of Corsensio Somerville.
00:45:36West Ham United so close to a third.
00:45:40Bashir Humphreys completely outfoxed.
00:45:42And on another day.
00:45:44That would have been laid on a plate for Somerville.
00:45:48No Premier League team.
00:45:50Has dropped more points from winning positions this season.
00:45:53Than West Ham.
00:45:54But the way this day has panned out.
00:45:56The Visiting fans feeling very confident now.
00:45:58That the three points are going their way.
00:46:02West Ham complete.
00:46:04A Premier League home and away double over Burnley this season.
00:46:07This is an important victory for Nuno Espino Santo.
00:46:11It is now 15 games without a win for Burnley.
00:46:15Only three victories in the Premier League all season.
00:46:19It was tough today.
00:46:20And certainly the first half was tough.
00:46:24I don't think there was a lack of desire or a lack of passion.
00:46:27We're in a difficult moment.
00:46:29I think you can feel that.
00:46:30I think the stadium felt that to be quite honest with you.
00:46:32And I think you see a team that are fragile at this present moment in time for sure.
00:46:36And we give ourselves a mountain to climb.
00:46:39Second half we have numerous chances.
00:46:42And we don't manage to maybe crank up the pressure.
00:46:45And we just fall a little bit short today.
00:46:47For many reasons really.
00:46:49So hugely disappointing.
00:46:50Obviously we spoke before about how important this game was.
00:46:53I thought it was a totally different reaction to the performance we had against Sunderland.
00:46:57But in this current environment.
00:46:59And I include everything around the place.
00:47:01In terms of that.
00:47:02It was edgy.
00:47:03And it felt it.
00:47:04And I think that reflected at times on the players.
00:47:06We were solid.
00:47:07We were very, very strong in our box.
00:47:10Axel, Dinos, Aaron, Malik, Scarls.
00:47:14After I think they did a good job on containing Burnley.
00:47:17We are still in the same situation.
00:47:18We have to focus on ourselves.
00:47:21Try to get this energy to the London Stadium.
00:47:24With our fans like you see today.
00:47:26It was so nice to see helping the team.
00:47:29And even on the second half when Burnley pushes against the ropes.
00:47:32You can see our fans singing and supporting the boys.
00:47:34It's so important.
00:47:36Three wins in four now for West Ham.
00:47:38They've taken 21 games to get three wins before that.
00:47:41And it's the first clean sheet since August.
00:47:44How have they turned it around?
00:47:45I think there's been a huge shift in attitude.
00:47:47A month ago I thought they were gone.
00:47:49I thought there was no coming back from that performance and result against Wolves.
00:47:52But I think after that.
00:47:54In terms of how positive they've been.
00:47:56Particularly they've gone into forward positions.
00:47:58Today there was a good old fashioned 4-4-2 if you like.
00:48:01With two wingers.
00:48:02Two centre forwards.
00:48:03And they played on the front foot.
00:48:06They were always positive.
00:48:08Always first thought.
00:48:09Can they go forward?
00:48:10Always having three, four, five players in the box.
00:48:13And he's been a huge part of that.
00:48:15Somerville.
00:48:16And another goal today.
00:48:17That was a fantastic finish.
00:48:19But that's what I mean by committing so many men forward.
00:48:23And we saw a brilliant crossing from Vitara not so long ago.
00:48:26This is equally as good from Juve.
00:48:28But you've got two centre forwards in there.
00:48:31Castellanos gets his first Premier League goal.
00:48:33If he doesn't get it then Wilson's in there behind him.
00:48:36So everything was on the front foot.
00:48:38Everything was positive.
00:48:39And another great example of that.
00:48:41Of winning the ball back up high.
00:48:43And then all of a sudden you've got three, four, five players who are prepared to get into the box.
00:48:48And that was the difference.
00:48:49Somerville again.
00:48:50Okay.
00:48:51The Burnley are lucky to get away with that.
00:48:53But they were asking so many questions.
00:48:56Second half that didn't really change.
00:48:58Again, it was that guy Somerville.
00:49:00But just look when he wins it there.
00:49:02It's how many people are getting up there.
00:49:04And are already up in there.
00:49:05But that comes from being positive.
00:49:08And another big, big win for Nuno and for West Ham.
00:49:11It's another defeat though for Burnley.
00:49:14That's 11 defeats now this season.
00:49:15They're one short of their league record number of defeats in one season which was set in 1888-89.
00:49:23They haven't won in their last 16.
00:49:25As we heard and as Scott Parker said, the fans have turned.
00:49:28Yeah, there's no positives.
00:49:30They've gone out with a whimper, haven't they?
00:49:31Decent start to the season.
00:49:33They were competitive.
00:49:34Now they've got no confidence.
00:49:36The fans have lost, you know, all hope.
00:49:38It's going to be a difficult end of the season for them.
00:49:40We'll have to wait and see what happens with Scotty.
00:49:43Two games for you in Sunday's Match of the Day.
00:50:05And you can follow all of Sunday's action from midday on Five Live and BBC Sounds.
00:50:10And to remind you that individual highlights of every Premier League game available on the BBC Sport website
00:50:16and iPlayer.
00:50:17Coverage of the Winter Olympics continues on Sunday from 9am on BBC2 and iPlayer.
00:50:23And there's live WSL from 2.15 as Spurs take on Chelsea.
00:50:29Now another side trying to make it four Premier League wins in a row under a new manager at Chelsea.
00:50:34Liam Rossini's side made the trip to bottom of the table Wolves.
00:50:37Your commentator is Mark Scott.
00:50:41Rob Edwards says Wolves transfer business both in and out has given his squad a nice refresh.
00:50:48And their two new arrivals both make their debuts today.
00:50:51Which starts for Angel Gomez and Adam Armstrong in an attacking line-up.
00:50:55Matt Doherty also comes in with Agbedou sold, Andre injured and Rodrigo Gomez benched.
00:51:01Chelsea are too different from the League Cup loss at Arsenal.
00:51:05Cole Palma and Pedro Neto replacing Gerald Harto and Liam Dallat.
00:51:10There's no Rhys James in the squad.
00:51:15Doherty looking for Matthias Mane who's crowded out but has done really well.
00:51:21Very well.
00:51:22Mane's still going.
00:51:23Shrugging off a couple of challenges.
00:51:26And that's Luke behind for a corner kick after a magnificent start from Matthias Mane.
00:51:35Well, he really has impressed since getting his first taste of Premier League action in December.
00:51:43Great industry and endeavour here to earn Wolves an early corner.
00:51:48Sanchez has stayed.
00:51:50It's a tricky one to deal with.
00:51:52And Chelsea just about do deal with it.
00:51:56Encouraging start for Wolves here.
00:52:00Well, they're up against the set-piece Masters in the week of Arsenal.
00:52:03Dealt with those dead balls okay but nearly made a right mess of it against the bottom club.
00:52:11Fafana.
00:52:14Nice idea from Pedro Neto.
00:52:16And he's got clear of Hugo Bueno as well.
00:52:19Plenty of white shirts up there.
00:52:21Jao Pedro collects.
00:52:23Controls.
00:52:24But can't quite offload.
00:52:25Oh, but then goes over and Jared Gillett has given a penalty.
00:52:30What a clumsy foul that was on Jao Pedro to gift Chelsea a spot kick.
00:52:37They have barely done anything so far.
00:52:40But the Wolves captain has tripped Jao Pedro to give away a penalty.
00:52:46It will be Cole Palmer with the duties here from 12 yards.
00:52:54Palmer.
00:52:56Perfect.
00:52:57And Chelsea are in front.
00:53:00His last goal was a penalty against Brentford last month.
00:53:05And he rolled this one in very calmly too.
00:53:09Wolves nil.
00:53:10Chelsea won.
00:53:13Here's Neto.
00:53:18Gusto after it here.
00:53:21Decent looking ball.
00:53:22Cucurea.
00:53:25And Caicedo.
00:53:27Enzo Fernandes.
00:53:28Went for the Rapona.
00:53:30Fernandes again.
00:53:31Sar is there.
00:53:33Wolves survive.
00:53:35Enzo Fernandes improvised really cleverly here.
00:53:38And Sar made the save.
00:53:40Would have been some goal.
00:53:46For Fana.
00:53:49Neto.
00:53:51Good ball that from Andres Santos.
00:53:54Gusto.
00:53:55Good save from Jose Sar.
00:53:57Gusto who scored his first ever senior goal in the home win over Wolves in November.
00:54:03Almost netted here.
00:54:05With a fizzing hit.
00:54:08Chelsea starting to assert the kind of dominance that you would have expected them to have done.
00:54:16Pedro has gone over.
00:54:17And it's another penalty.
00:54:18Chelsea.
00:54:20Well initially I thought it looked a bit soft.
00:54:23But Jared Gillett has decided that the shove from Mosquera merits another penalty kick.
00:54:31I do just wonder if it was outside the area.
00:54:33And that might be what they're protesting about here.
00:54:36Well VAR have double checked.
00:54:38And they say that it was inside the box.
00:54:41So it will be a second penalty kick for Chelsea.
00:54:45So Cole Palmer who's already netted.
00:54:49From the spot.
00:54:51Steps up once again.
00:54:54Different corner.
00:54:56Same outcome.
00:54:57And Chelsea double their lead.
00:55:00And Chelsea are well on course.
00:55:04For another victory under Liam Rossini in the Premier League.
00:55:08It would be four in a row.
00:55:11Kind of run that Enzo Maresca only managed once across this season and a half in charge.
00:55:19Pedro Neto.
00:55:26Touched on here for Cucuré.
00:55:28Chelsea looking for a third.
00:55:29Palmer!
00:55:30Hat-trick for Cole Palmer!
00:55:33The high school celebration but he's red hot this afternoon.
00:55:39So much talk about how to get the best out of Palmer.
00:55:43Well he's got a first half hat-trick this afternoon.
00:55:47This was far too easy.
00:55:49Slice down that left-hand side of the Wolves defence.
00:55:52And nobody was picking up Cole Palmer.
00:55:55And you knew when he got there what was coming next.
00:55:58It's Wolves 0.
00:55:59It's Chelsea 3.
00:56:00And it could get very, very ugly for the home side now.
00:56:12Matthias Mane.
00:56:15Rodrigo Gomez has made the offer.
00:56:20Mane...
00:56:23Orocodare on the rebound.
00:56:25Can't do anything with it.
00:56:28Almost lifted the gloom a little here, Matthias Mane.
00:56:32With a lift towards the far corner.
00:56:35Out of the reach of Sanchez.
00:56:36But not quite curling enough.
00:56:41Mane's corner.
00:56:42Flicked on!
00:56:43Oh!
00:56:44It's in!
00:56:45Orocodare gets Wolves on the board.
00:56:49And it was flicked on handily in the near post by Armstrong.
00:56:54And that caused problems for Chelsea.
00:56:57Orocodare on hand to react quickest to stab home.
00:57:01It's a clever flick from Armstrong.
00:57:03Not so clever defensively from Chelsea.
00:57:07And Tolo Orocodare was there to profit.
00:57:11To make it Wolves 1.
00:57:13Chelsea 3.
00:57:17Orocodare.
00:57:22Orocodare.
00:57:42Orocodare.
00:57:44Orocodare.
00:57:51Orocodare.
00:58:12Orocodare.
00:58:14I found him.
00:58:14No matter how happy he is.
00:58:16He looked happy today with three goals.
00:58:18But we could have scored more in the first half,
00:58:20and we need to keep improving.
00:58:21I think we made a couple of ludicrous decisions in the penalties.
00:58:25Yeah.
00:58:26And you can't give a team like that with the quality they've got,
00:58:29that sort of head start in the game anyway.
00:58:31It wasn't a good environment or a place to sort of play
00:58:33for up until halftime then.
00:58:35It was important then.
00:58:35We just had to get in.
00:58:36And the challenge then was for the players,
00:58:38was to show some character, some belief.
00:58:40Life under Liam is amazing, you know, he gives us all confidence, him and all the staff, you know, on
00:58:46the training pitch with his strategies, the way we play and stuff, so let's just be ourselves, play free, so
00:58:52I'm sure when I'm back proper fit, then you'll see the best of me.
00:58:57Clearly delighted Cole Palmer there, no doubt that he was, you know, the standout player in that game, but where
00:59:02did they get the most joy on the pitch, do you think, Danny?
00:59:04Definitely wide areas, they really focused on getting down the sides of Wolves from all areas of the pitch, I
00:59:11mean, I could show you 10, 12 different examples, there's the back four, Neto obviously is a wide man, kept
00:59:17his width well and he's always dangerous anyway, this was a good play that led to the penalty, but that
00:59:22space they left him behind, time and time again Chelsea utilised it, I mean it's a ridiculous challenge in the
00:59:29end on João Pedro and it is a penalty, but they've got good numbers in the box,
00:59:34and it's a fantastic result for Chelsea and Liam, it's another good momentum builder and players playing with confidence, getting
00:59:44used to his system, here you can see again, Gusto this time making a run in behind, losing his run,
00:59:50I should have scored,
00:59:52and João Pedro into outrun, that big space of the leaving, there's not really a decent back four line there
00:59:58from Wolves and I don't know what he's thinking, pushing him in the back there, he's not going anywhere, but
01:00:03it's that space they keep leaving and for the third goal of the hat-trick, it's a good move, overload
01:00:11down the sides again,
01:00:14and by the time they get down into the final third, the quality of the pullback's brilliant and Palmer's not
01:00:21going to miss that, and if that's him playing, what, 60% fit, a few players, a few teams should
01:00:29be worried when he gets 100%, but we know he's quality, he's a wonderful talent, he's calm, he's end product,
01:00:34he's a game changer,
01:00:35but he does need to carry on this form and stay fit till the end of the season if he
01:00:39wants to get in that England squad, I think.
01:00:40I tell you what, it's one level when you remember the fathers of players, it's another level altogether when you
01:00:45remember the fathers of managers, it's a new level to move on to,
01:00:50but it's been fantastic for Liam Rossini, Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace still to come for them, quick word on
01:00:56the start he's made, Alan?
01:00:57Brilliant, yeah, Leeds and Burnley at home next as well, so that'll be another opportunity to kick on again.
01:01:02Now, Fulham and Everton face each other on the same points, having both accrued 34 from 24 games, but who
01:01:08would break the deadlock?
01:01:09Chris Wise was at Craven Cottage.
01:01:13It feels like some are playing musical chairs for those final European places.
01:01:18Fulham and Everton without a seat at the start of the day, and yet a win would have them feeling
01:01:23quite cosy by the end of it.
01:01:25Marco Silva's side have been on both the right and the wrong end of late goals recently.
01:01:30He's made one change from the defeat at Man United, Sessegnon preferred to Robinson at left back, and that's the
01:01:36same position that Everton have altered.
01:01:39Mikhelenko returns with Brantwaite having his minutes carefully managed, David Moyes serving a touchline ban after he passionately celebrated that
01:01:48dramatic Everton equaliser at Brighton.
01:01:52Not just side by side in the table with the same points, but even the same goal difference as well,
01:01:59these two.
01:02:00I think the paths of Fulham and Everton could be intertwined right to the very end of this Premier League
01:02:06season.
01:02:08Everton get it up and forward towards Barry, who at the moment is alone and in a difficult spot with
01:02:17Anderson coming into a tackle like that.
01:02:18But Armstrong's helped him out, and Everton have got it again, and Harrison Armstrong goes over and wins the free
01:02:25kick as well.
01:02:27Chikwese just leaning into the youngster.
01:02:31So Garner with the free kick, and this potentially is where Everton can come into their own on a day
01:02:37like this.
01:02:37Garner's gone for goal.
01:02:39Leno saw it and flicks it over the bar for a corner.
01:02:47Everton corner, that is a good one, and the head has hit the post.
01:02:50And Armstrong can't get on the follow-up, and that certainly was a scare for Fulham.
01:02:55It's the head of Jake O'Brien at the far post, amongst that cluster of bodies.
01:03:01And he's serving his touchline ban today, David Moyes, who he is watching very high up in the Riverside stands.
01:03:11It's a foul on Smith-Rowe, but they've still got the ball, and then suddenly Iwobi's got it in Everton's
01:03:16box.
01:03:16And here's Jimenez, and in it goes from Raul Jimenez.
01:03:23And it took a while to deflect and bobble, and eventually nestle in the Everton net, but it made it.
01:03:32Well, that's really unlucky.
01:03:34It's the save by Pickford, and then it's bounced back in off the defender.
01:03:37So that will go down as a Vitaly Mikelenko own goal.
01:03:43And here they come again, sweeping forwards.
01:03:47Sessignon, Chukwese!
01:03:52Oh, it's a brilliant save by Pickford.
01:03:54That full stretch, that was probably creeping in.
01:03:58Harry Wilson with pace towards Jimenez, headed away by Tarkovsky.
01:04:03Taken back by Sessignon.
01:04:05Chukwese trying to change direction.
01:04:07Smith-Rowe!
01:04:08How unlucky is that?
01:04:10Mightily close to a second for Marco Silva's team.
01:04:13Not the confidence to take it first time, Emile Smith-Rowe.
01:04:21Sessignon.
01:04:22You can see why he's been selected by Marco Silva today, ahead of Anthony Robinson.
01:04:26Now having said that, he then relinquishes the ball.
01:04:29It's won back by Chukwese.
01:04:30It's Smith-Rowe.
01:04:33Jimenez!
01:04:36Inches away from a second for Fulham.
01:04:39That one certainly would have been his, had he found the corner.
01:04:4560 games in charge of Everton.
01:04:47Marco Silva had his final game.
01:04:49A 5-2 defeat in the Merseyside derby just over six years ago.
01:04:58Chukwese slipping it in.
01:05:00Smith-Rowe and Pickford very quick off his line to block the angle.
01:05:06So swift to recognise the danger there, Pickford.
01:05:11More work for Everton to do right before half-time here.
01:05:14Wilson's delivering.
01:05:16Armstrong ahead of Cuenca.
01:05:18Chukwese!
01:05:19Oh, my word!
01:05:21Off the top of the crossbar.
01:05:23That would have been a hit from the heavens from Samuel Chukwese.
01:05:30There he is.
01:05:31He's almost close enough to us in the match of the day commentary position to hear everything we say today.
01:05:35But we've only got good things to say about Thomas Tuchel.
01:05:41Chukwese can't keep it in.
01:05:42At least in his attempts to do so.
01:05:45Presents the ball to O'Brien.
01:05:46But Fulham have it back with Sessignon.
01:05:48And Harry Wilson with the room.
01:05:50And Chukwese with even more.
01:05:53And somehow Everton have scrambled it away.
01:05:57Jimenez couldn't quite get the final telling touch to the ball.
01:06:02Since his return to the club, Everton have drawn more games than any other Premier League side, including three of
01:06:09their last four.
01:06:09And I think from here, he may very well take a draw today.
01:06:17This is Tyrik George.
01:06:19Mikhelenko.
01:06:20Good spin from him.
01:06:21Mikhelenko.
01:06:22Jusby Hall.
01:06:231-1.
01:06:27He was in brilliant form before his injury.
01:06:30And he's back on the score sheet now.
01:06:33And David Moy's team are back in the game.
01:06:35And Vitaly Mikhelenko give him a whole heap of credit.
01:06:40Unlucky with the own goal in the first half.
01:06:43But a super play of creativity to make that for Dewsbury Hall.
01:06:48Who slides Everton.
01:06:52Level at Craven Cottage.
01:06:58A foul by Castagne.
01:07:01Which again is going to give Everton the opportunity to send Tarkovsky forward.
01:07:05Send Keane forward.
01:07:07It's gone short to Dewsbury Hall.
01:07:09Fulham weren't quite alert to that.
01:07:11Dewsbury Hall with a cracking ball.
01:07:14Was there a touch on the way through?
01:07:16There was.
01:07:18System referees seen it.
01:07:19Corner to Everton.
01:07:21Yeah, just got his fingers to it.
01:07:23That's an excellent spot by the official.
01:07:26So a change for Fulham.
01:07:28Two changes in fact.
01:07:29Oscar Bob on for his debut.
01:07:31Having joined from Manchester City for £27 million.
01:07:35And I'm just hoping that double change is going to disrupt the flow of the Everton corner.
01:07:40And there is some Everton flow.
01:07:42Oh, how's that gone in?
01:07:45Leno has made a right mess of it.
01:07:47The Fulham goalkeeper.
01:07:49And Everton have stolen the lead at Craven Cottage.
01:07:53It's manic in the away end.
01:07:55It's messy inside that six-yard box.
01:07:58Jake O'Brien in front of Leno.
01:08:01Who just couldn't get around the Everton centre-half.
01:08:03And it is going to be an own goal from Leno.
01:08:06It is his touch.
01:08:07And Everton, for the first time in 12 years, have a Premier League double over Fulham.
01:08:15Look, we might have been a little bit fortunate in little bits, but we were unfortunate on the goal.
01:08:20Our goalkeeper made a couple of really good saves in the first half.
01:08:24But I thought, certainly for most of the second half, I thought we were the better team.
01:08:28Good first half from us.
01:08:29The game at half-time should be decided, to be honest.
01:08:32It should be 4-0 or 4-1, really, at this level when you create so many, many chances.
01:08:38You have to be clean and ruthless to kill the game.
01:08:42And second half was completely the opposite.
01:08:46Ourselves, we were just able to blame ourselves, to be honest.
01:08:48I don't remember them having a passage of play in the whole second half.
01:08:52We won the ball a lot.
01:08:53And that's how we need to start in the first minute, you know.
01:08:57Because we've definitely got the players to do that and to do it for 90 minutes as well.
01:09:01So I'm hoping we can start doing it from minute one rather than 45.
01:09:06I'm glad I was up there because I'd have probably been running on the pitch when we scored that second
01:09:10goal.
01:09:10Well, actually, I noted the fact you had quite a lot of room up there to run up and down
01:09:13if you wanted to in the stands.
01:09:15The concrete's not good for knee slides, though, I've got to tell you.
01:09:18Although, if you'd been on the pitch, it would have been a different story.
01:09:21Look, just the second time Everton have come back to win an away league game across the last three seasons.
01:09:26But we have seen these improved performances in the second half from them before, Alan.
01:09:30Yeah, not for the first time it's happened with Everton.
01:09:33I mean, Fulham should have scored two or three at least in that first half.
01:09:38But then what was different is they played with more courage, they committed more men into the box,
01:09:43played with more freedom, more pace to their game.
01:09:46That should be hit first time.
01:09:48And then they pressed higher and forcing Fulham into mistakes,
01:09:52playing the ball exactly where they wanted them to do it.
01:09:55They set the trap.
01:09:56Mikhellenko's higher up on the pitch.
01:09:59But then you see how many players they've got when they actually win that ball
01:10:03and getting into forward positions and goal-scoring opportunities.
01:10:07Mikhellenko, again, is a lot further forward.
01:10:10And Fulham couldn't handle it.
01:10:12And that was a brilliant win in the end.
01:10:14And that's, again, look, but that's the same thing.
01:10:16That didn't necessarily happen in the first half.
01:10:18Fusby Hall finishes it off really, really well.
01:10:21And then they get the little bit of luck that they need.
01:10:24Good ball in, but surrounding the goalkeeper, Leno.
01:10:26And a big three points again for Everton,
01:10:29but much, much better in the second half rather than the first half.
01:10:32Yeah, much improved second half performance from Everton.
01:10:34Now, despite beginning the day in third place,
01:10:37Aston Villa's league form has wobbled of late.
01:10:40They lost three of the last six.
01:10:41They travelled to inform Bournemouth, and Steve Wilson was there.
01:10:47Bournemouth are hoping to complete an impressive hat-trick of home wins,
01:10:51having seen off Spurs and Liverpool here in their last two.
01:10:55One change today to the XI, which won at Molyneux last weekend.
01:10:59It's a first start for the 19-year-old Brazilian forward Ryan,
01:11:03signed from Vasco da Gama.
01:11:05Adam Smith misses out.
01:11:07Villa make four changes to the side, which lost to Brentford,
01:11:10including a first league start since September for Tyrone Mings,
01:11:14who once upon a long ago was a Bournemouth player.
01:11:18Ollie Watkins needs one more goal for 150 in the league.
01:11:26Taken up by Alex Jiménez.
01:11:30Evan Nielsen's touch off.
01:11:32Kruppi, good effort.
01:11:34And Evan Nielsen, oh, he should have scored.
01:11:38Well, Martinez made the save from Junior Kruppi,
01:11:43but pushed it straight out to Evan Nielsen,
01:11:45who just couldn't get the leverage on the header.
01:11:55Changed it, Sancho.
01:11:56And he is in a nice little spot of the medal.
01:11:58Sancho's drifting inside, and he's found Rodgers,
01:12:02who drives the ball into the roof of the net
01:12:04and puts Aston Villa in front.
01:12:11An unerring finish from Morgan Rodgers.
01:12:16Such a confident finish.
01:12:21That's a great goal.
01:12:23He's absolutely lashed that.
01:12:26Into double figures for the season.
01:12:29Morgan Rodgers for Aston Villa.
01:12:37Evan Nielsen turning.
01:12:42Scott, good hit.
01:12:43Martinez patting it down and then denies Evan Nielsen.
01:12:48Well, very similar to Evan Nielsen's early opportunity, really.
01:12:54In that it was Emi Martinez dealing with a powerful drive,
01:12:59this time from Scott,
01:13:01but patting it straight to Evan Nielsen and then recovering.
01:13:06In comes the resulting Bournemouth corner kick.
01:13:10Well, it's at the bar, Ryan.
01:13:12His home debut.
01:13:14But if this had gone into the back of the Aston Villa net,
01:13:18it would have been an inadvertent assist for Morgan Rodgers.
01:13:30Here's Buendia, good save, Petrovic.
01:13:38And that's a little bit of a coming together.
01:13:40The menace of Buendia.
01:13:42Buendia felt he'd been fouled.
01:13:47The VAR, Chris Cabernet, has agreed that there was no cause for a penalty here.
01:13:52It's a good save by Petrovic.
01:13:54And there's not a lot, is there, Jiménez on Buendia?
01:14:00Well, Anthony Taylor sorted it out fairly quickly.
01:14:07And both have been booked.
01:14:09Alex Jiménez and Emiliano Buendia.
01:14:14Easy to forget in the excellent season that Villa are having again,
01:14:18that they didn't score a goal in their first four Premier League games of this season.
01:14:29Wow.
01:14:32Really good run.
01:14:33Ryan, oh, he scored!
01:14:37Oh, it's an outstanding individual goal on his home debut
01:14:41from the 19-year-old for Bournemouth.
01:14:49And they absolutely love that here.
01:14:54And he really did it all himself.
01:15:01Away from Lucat Dean so easily.
01:15:04Mings didn't get across.
01:15:06And he's just slotted it in the near post.
01:15:10It's one each.
01:15:12And that's one he'll remember for a long, long time.
01:15:21Sancho.
01:15:28Sancho to Mati Cash.
01:15:33Well, Petrovic has got a touch on this.
01:15:36It's a corner kick to Villa.
01:15:39Really sweetly hit by Cash.
01:15:42Petrovic with a little glancing touch on this.
01:15:46Three minutes to go.
01:15:50The promise of goals.
01:15:53Almost from the off here.
01:15:57Hill into Evan Nielsen.
01:15:58He'll reach this.
01:15:59Martinez thought about coming.
01:16:01Changed his mind.
01:16:02Evan Nielsen.
01:16:03Ryan Christie.
01:16:04Tremendous effort.
01:16:06Brooks.
01:16:10Cook.
01:16:13Smith.
01:16:15Onana for Villa.
01:16:17Brooks for Bournemouth.
01:16:18Goal kick for Villa.
01:16:24Ryan Christie.
01:16:26Didn't even have to break stride to volley this goalwards.
01:16:31Anthony Taylor blows this whistle and it's finished all square at the Vitality.
01:16:35Bournemouth one.
01:16:37Villa one.
01:16:38I think it's not enough for us.
01:16:40Before the game, probably you take a point or a decent result.
01:16:45After the game, I cannot feel completely satisfied because I think we were the better team today easily and we
01:16:53couldn't win the game.
01:16:54Good evening, yes.
01:16:55Good point.
01:16:56Good point.
01:16:57Difficult.
01:16:57And the first half, we fighted.
01:17:01We dominated sometimes.
01:17:03We needed defence as well.
01:17:05But offensively, we created chances and we scored.
01:17:09And one was equal match the first half.
01:17:12But the second half, maybe we needed more and we didn't achieve it.
01:17:15But, of course, happy with the respond on the field, the players did.
01:17:19Still a bit disappointed, obviously, going 1-0 ahead and you want to try and see the game out and
01:17:24even add to the lead.
01:17:25And I think we had chances to do that.
01:17:27I think it was a very open game in a sense.
01:17:28So, I think both teams could get into the box and could get chances.
01:17:32But they were miles better than the second half and deserve to get back into the game.
01:17:35So, yeah, we'll take the point and we'll move forward.
01:17:37And Ryan got a goal on his home debut.
01:17:39He took it really well.
01:17:41Yes, it's an amazing play.
01:17:42I think Ryan can go inside, can go outside.
01:17:44It's really difficult for the defender, no?
01:17:46And has finished it also really well.
01:17:48He's still a young player, still needs adaptation.
01:17:52He needs to improve some things.
01:17:54But if he does it with assists the other day, with the goal today, with numbers, it's always easier.
01:18:00Well, look, the points were shared in this game.
01:18:03But Bournemouth, in terms of the numbers, were absolutely dominant.
01:18:06Much higher XG, much more shots, shots on target, touches in the opposition box.
01:18:12Everything they were ahead of Aston Villa on.
01:18:15Yeah, they grew into the game second half.
01:18:17I mean, second half they were really good.
01:18:18Villa were decent in the first half.
01:18:20Rodgers, Sancho.
01:18:21But Bournemouth's been on a good run recently.
01:18:23And Ryan, the new signing, who they've brought in to replace Semenyo.
01:18:28He's young, he's 19.
01:18:30He goes both ways.
01:18:31His final ball sometimes didn't work.
01:18:33But his positivity and his willingness to beat people and try and make things happen is always refreshing.
01:18:38You know, he was sometimes coming in and playing and passing and making the right choices.
01:18:42And then when he had the space, he'd try and beat his full-back, go one-on-one.
01:18:48And here he gets a chance.
01:18:49He's going to be good in the air as well.
01:18:50He's a big lad.
01:18:52He nearly gets a goal there.
01:18:54And this is the bit I'm talking about.
01:18:56We see so many wingers come back and go inside and pass.
01:18:59And straight away, bomb, he's in.
01:19:01He's trying to make things happen.
01:19:02And maybe a bit of a better ball there.
01:19:04He grew into the game in the second half, more and more, starting to get on it and try and
01:19:08dominate, as the whole team did, actually.
01:19:10I mean, they've got another 19-year-old in Kruppi, who's a wonderful player.
01:19:13Their recruitment team's phenomenal.
01:19:15They seem to have ready-made replacements all the time.
01:19:17And you have to give them credit for that because the amount of players they've sold and still to be
01:19:22in the position they're in.
01:19:23I mean, this is really bad defending, but still, the pace, the power, the positivity and the finish there on
01:19:30his so-called weaker foot will do him the world of good.
01:19:33So, score on your first full game for your club and get the fans on board, he looks a super
01:19:39talent.
01:19:39Having had a chance at the title, Aston Villa now have only one win in their last five.
01:19:45Is that a worry?
01:19:46No, I still think they're punching well above their weight.
01:19:49And I think if they can get into top five and perhaps get Champions League football that way, that will
01:19:54be a very, very good season for them.
01:19:56Let's go to Friday night's game now.
01:19:58A relegation six-pointer.
01:20:00Leeds took on Nottingham Forest at Elland Road.
01:20:02Alistair Mann watched this one.
01:20:06Leeds boss Daniel Farker estimates that his side need 12 more points to stay up, with results here at Elland
01:20:13Road likely to be pivotal.
01:20:15His side have lost just two of the last 11 games.
01:20:18Though an injury to the industrious Anton Stack is a blow.
01:20:22Noah Okafor deputises.
01:20:24Like Leeds, Nottingham Forest are in their best form of the season and are searching for a third straight away
01:20:29win.
01:20:30They'll pursue it with a debutant goalkeeper in former Manchester City player Stefan Ortega, who's one of three changes with
01:20:37Morato and Zac Abbot the others.
01:20:39The latter making his first Premier League start.
01:20:453-1 winners in November, Nottingham Forest are seeking a first league double over Leeds in 12 seasons.
01:20:55Nottingham Forest are seeking a first league double over Leeds in 12 seasons.
01:20:55And Padu.
01:20:56Oh, that's a little lax.
01:20:58And here's Sangare.
01:21:02And there's Jesus and Hudson-Odoi.
01:21:08That's too firm, I think.
01:21:09No, Gibbs-White will get there.
01:21:11I think he might have hung in the breeze.
01:21:12There's Dominguez, and that's chips away by Darlow.
01:21:16Well, there is a strong wind inside Ellen Road, and it held the ball up, and Dominguez, eventually the beneficiary,
01:21:24and they were on five points from eight games when he took over.
01:21:2821 points from 16-6.
01:21:32Okafor, that's a nice touch.
01:21:34You get away from Anderson.
01:21:38Dominguez in Goodmanson.
01:21:40He wins the corner.
01:21:44This Leeds' fourth corner.
01:21:47Don't do much for the previous three.
01:21:51More with that one.
01:21:53What about the second ball?
01:21:55That's much better!
01:21:57And against the bar by Calvin Lewin.
01:22:00Well, that's the first chance he's had in the match, Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
01:22:05And he has crunched it against the bar.
01:22:08Terrific header.
01:22:09So unlucky.
01:22:11You cannot believe it.
01:22:14Gruetz.
01:22:18Up towards...
01:22:20Vogel, who's onside!
01:22:23And has scored!
01:22:26And everyone stops.
01:22:29The Nottingham Forest players in particular.
01:22:31Gruetz's ball forward.
01:22:33And Vogel is onside.
01:22:37And there's the proof.
01:22:39He just steals in, unnoticed.
01:22:42And puts it beyond Ortega.
01:22:46Vogel.
01:22:47Justin.
01:22:49Aronson.
01:22:51Good play.
01:22:52And Justin's shot saved.
01:22:54And Okafor!
01:22:55Two-nil Leeds.
01:23:01Well, it's Bedlam.
01:23:03Two goals in.
01:23:05Ran about three minutes.
01:23:07And Leeds are suddenly in control.
01:23:11They've won all their four previous night games here in Elland Road this season.
01:23:17It looks as though they might be on their way to a fifth.
01:23:21The momentum all with them.
01:23:23It is Leeds 2.
01:23:25Nottingham Forest, 0-0.
01:23:27In a pivotal game.
01:23:30In battling relegation.
01:23:33Anderson.
01:23:35Gibbs-White.
01:23:38He's overdone that, but he suddenly gets it back again.
01:23:41And tries the shot, which deflects.
01:23:43And Darlow pushes it away.
01:23:46Well, Darlow had to make two movements here to make the save.
01:23:50He's already going down for the first attempt.
01:23:53And then it just flicks the defender.
01:23:55And he has to go again.
01:24:0019 of Leeds.
01:24:0126 points have come here in Elland Road.
01:24:05And well, of course, to having another three this evening.
01:24:09Good ball.
01:24:10Gruev.
01:24:11Now Okafor.
01:24:13Makes an angle.
01:24:15Hits the shot.
01:24:16Bogle.
01:24:17Couldn't quite get the ball up from out of his feet.
01:24:21And Anderson emerges with it.
01:24:25Good header by Ampadu.
01:24:28Here's Gruev.
01:24:30And turned in by Calvin Lewin.
01:24:33He's chested it in.
01:24:37What a start to the second half for Leeds.
01:24:42Gruev's ball in.
01:24:44And Calvert-Lewin with the improvisation to use his upper body and lever the ball beyond Ortega.
01:24:53And it is double figures for the season for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
01:25:00And he doesn't want them to go out with a whimper if they're going to lose today.
01:25:05Hutchinson.
01:25:08Teasing ball.
01:25:09Luka.
01:25:09Forrest pull one back.
01:25:11It was a great ball in.
01:25:13And that's what they've brought Luka for.
01:25:16To dominate aerially.
01:25:20And on his Nottingham Forest debut, he has just given the visitors a little bit of life.
01:25:27It's pretty much their first attempt of the second half.
01:25:30And they've made it count.
01:25:34Anderson.
01:25:36Sangare.
01:25:38It's over by Darlow.
01:25:40Well, he made a couple of saves in the first half when the game was a lot more in the
01:25:44balance than it is now.
01:25:46And he's reacted well to deny Sangare another Forrest goal.
01:25:52It's a sign of a great mentality and a great spirit.
01:25:55It's also a winning mentality when you are asked to deliver.
01:25:58And you deliver also in this way an emphatic fight for my boys.
01:26:02Great, great performance.
01:26:04I would say 80 minutes.
01:26:06And also showed the other side of us.
01:26:08Also the fighting edge and the steal.
01:26:10So overall a perfect, perfect win.
01:26:11Perfect night for us.
01:26:12You can't get them with a straight ball at the top with a unit or staring at the ball.
01:26:16That, for me, is nowhere near acceptable.
01:26:18And they know that.
01:26:19Never give away a second goal, which is...
01:26:21Not great.
01:26:22Just from doing the basics.
01:26:24And then you get to half time and you still think you're in it.
01:26:26I actually thought we were still in it at that point.
01:26:28And then the third goal and you just go, well, you know, you're scratching your head because I've looked back
01:26:32at them all and they're miles off what we normally do.
01:26:34As a unit, by the way.
01:26:35Not individuals, but as a unit.
01:26:38Danny, that result plus the win for West Ham means it's looking a lot tighter at the bottom than we
01:26:43thought it might do.
01:26:44Yeah, I mean, me and I were just talking about it.
01:26:46It's very difficult to predict too.
01:26:47West Ham are out of all the five teams you'd say up to Tottenham.
01:26:51Who are in the relegation battle.
01:26:54West Ham are in the best form and Palace are in the worst form.
01:26:56They haven't won a game since early December.
01:26:58I think it could go right to the wire.
01:27:01Yeah, I mean, when you look at Palace and the form that they're in, Tottenham, I mean, surely Tottenham can't
01:27:07be pulled into that relegation battle.
01:27:10Well, they're in it.
01:27:11Yeah, they're going to have to start winning games and rather sharpishly.
01:27:16West Ham, I still think, if you're going to ask me, I know you're going to ask me, so I'll
01:27:19probably just say West Ham just.
01:27:21Yeah.
01:27:22I can hear the West Ham fans screaming at me now.
01:27:25Yeah, but the idea of momentum and the idea of those runs of form that you're talking about, Danny, are
01:27:29going to be so important at this stage of the season.
01:27:32And any of these teams could be streaky.
01:27:34Yeah, I think confidence is a massive thing down there.
01:27:36West Ham now are looking up and everyone's buzzing and training it, whereas the other teams who aren't winning any
01:27:41games, training's harder every day.
01:27:43The confidence is dropping.
01:27:44I've got a feeling with Forest European tilt, that might hamper them a little bit.
01:27:50I think Leeds will be all right, I think, because of their home form, be strong at home.
01:27:54Well, let's take a look at the whole Premier League table then.
01:27:58Arsenal end the day, nine points clear at the top of the table.
01:28:00That's the first time they've done that since their last title win in May 2004.
01:28:05Excellent starts Manchester United and Chelsea have made under new management continue.
01:28:08They both won for the fourth game in succession.
01:28:11Brentford's bid for European football gathers pace.
01:28:13They're level on points with Liverpool.
01:28:16West Ham with a third win in four, closed the gap on Nottingham Forest.
01:28:19So for the first time since before Christmas, three points separate the teams in 17th and 18th.
01:28:25And that is all from us.
01:28:26Thank you, Alan and Danny.
01:28:28On a very busy day, Arsenal made it all look so easy.
01:28:31Good night.
01:28:49Good night.
01:28:50Good night.
01:28:52Good night.
01:28:53Good night.
01:28:53Good night.
01:28:54Good night.
01:28:55Good night.
01:28:55Good night.
