00:00right now we want to head out to meteorologist and storm chaser tony vallback joining us now
00:04from oblong illinois tony uh i know you're back on another tornadic cell
00:11yeah jeff actually we're on two tornadic cells right now really back to back here making an
00:16approach toward the newton illinois area so these town names sound familiar it's because if you were
00:21with us a couple hours ago we were back in those areas kind of tracking that first round this is
00:25the second round of storms coming through right now i know a little dark on the on the camera here
00:31as i'm eastbound or westbound on highway 33 heading toward newton basically going to try to meet the
00:36storms there in the newton area folks in newton you're not under a tornado warning yet i imagine
00:42you will be shortly so consider this an early warning you probably want to go ahead and start
00:46thinking about those tornado precautions if you're in the town of newton pretty decent sized town so a
00:51lot of folks in there you've got two tornadic storms coming at you unfortunately so
00:55even when you get the one that's going to roll through there's going to be another one on the
00:59back end here we'll show you some of the video from earlier here this was the uh the storm that's
01:03been responsible for some of the more damaging tornadoes we've had uh funnel clouds that i've seen
01:08with this unfortunately i was between tornadoes when i got down in the area to see it and then a
01:13lot
01:13of hail a lot of small hail uh we talk about severe storms containing hail bigger than an inch in
01:18diameter but some of these stronger storms produce some of the hail that's of smaller size right now
01:23you're looking at some of that video again this was a fairly intense supercell that eventually did
01:28develop again was responsible for several tornadoes and some hail accumulating hail as well as some
01:34instances of hail about an inch in diameter not terribly common for this part of the country
01:40certainly not in the middle of february this is definitely more of a springtime setup it seems
01:45as we're starting to get some of the storm reports that are coming in on the wake of these storms
01:50but we'll shift the attention here as i am crossing uh into uh willow hill area now and we are
01:56heading
01:57westbound on 33 so about eight miles now jeff uh eight miles to the east of newton making that approach
02:04again two tornadic cells the one to the west was the one that had the confirmed tornado the the latest
02:10warning on that uh indicates that it's gone down to radar indicated so that is some good news the
02:16leading tornadic storm also radar indicated so both of these radar indicated uh unfortunately obviously
02:21as you can see not a whole lot of light to work with here i am seeing occasional lightning strikes
02:26these are not the constant lightning flashes that you see in the great plains supercells the lightning
02:31is very sporadic but it is bright on the front end of this here so that's going to be something
02:36i'll be having to pay some attention to if i decide i need to get out of the car for
02:39any reason
02:40but we are tracking again two tornadic cells this is uh going to be impacting the newton area one if
02:46not both of these are currently newton again you're not under a tornado warning but you likely will be
02:52certainly a severe thunderstorm warning these are going to be two storms that mean significant business
02:57for the newton area here along highway 33 illinois highway 33 again in newton illinois jeff so we're
03:04going to be paying close attention as these storms make the approach here over the next 30 minutes
03:08all right tony be safe out there as uh tony's westbound they're moving from oblong uh to newton
03:14and again we could see that area here uh he's moving through willow hill and uh newton and we have
03:19that first of two uh rotating thunderstorms one moving right through latona in jasper county of
03:26illinois a tornado worn storm there and then another one a little farther west into far southern parts
03:31of effingham county of illinois uh where we're dealing with again another tornado threat here too this
03:36one has been stepped down to a radar indicated it was confirmed now radar indicated with the most
03:43recent uh update you can see the the the tighter polygon here uh the red one uh replacing what had
03:50been a purple one and that's a sign that we're going down to radar indicated i want to briefly take
03:55us over to bloomington indiana and just east of there and in a little less than two minutes we want
04:00to
04:00send it over to the big three uh to hear from bernie and ari uh but uh the storm that
04:06moved through
04:06bloomington it had been a radar had been a confirmed tornado now it's a radar indicated did have some
04:13hail out there in the woodville hills area an hour ago and then another storm rolled through uh just
04:19about an hour later looking at this view from the louisville perspective uh let's check out that area of
04:25rotation still an area of rotation here still holding uh pretty cohesively together uh right
04:30over nashville indiana red outbound green inbound so that's where we have again an area of rotation
04:35moving through brown county of indiana east of bloomington bloomington if anybody's there and needs
04:41to come out of their shelter absolutely can there's no longer a tornado threat in bloomington
04:44but there is to the east of town out into areas around brown county uh again well east of bloomington
04:51uh into areas approaching bartholomew county under a tornado warning as well uh so again some concerns
04:57there uh the third cluster of storms that has been warned is potentially tornadic in schuyler county
05:04moving into fulton county this one uh the weather service is issuing a severe thunderstorm warning as it
05:10exits the first warning uh and enters the the the first county and moves into the second zone here
05:15so uh it looks like the the severe threat is continuing but the tornadic risk
05:19is dropping with this one a little bit with less in the way of rotation there so the biggest concerns
05:24certainly are going to be down into areas around and east of bloomington east of bloomington and then
05:30into the areas that tony mentioned near newton in jasper county of illinois and then in effingham
05:36county of illinois south of interstate 70. those are the big concerns uh we do have a tornado watch
05:41that continues and also just briefly while we're here look at the snow on the north side so widespread snow
05:46snow into nebraska
