00:00A send-off for Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto as he departed for the first meeting
00:06of U.S. President Donald Trump's Board of Peace.
00:09Subianto's enthusiasm for Trump's controversial initiative to broker peace in Gaza has raised
00:14eyebrows in the country with the world's largest Muslim population because of its long-standing
00:19and staunch support of the Palestinian cause.
00:23But under Subianto, Indonesia became the first country to make a firm commitment to Trump's
00:28post-war reconstruction plan, saying it was readying to deploy 8,000 troops to Gaza.
00:34Many Indonesians view it as Subianto kautauing to Trump's agenda as the two leaders negotiate
00:40a trade deal.
00:41The former army general has also been keen to raise Indonesia's profile on the world stage
00:46and that the UN General Assembly appeared to extend an olive branch to Israel with whom
00:51it has no formal ties.
00:53Indonesia is prepared to deploy 20,000 or even more of our sons and daughters to help
01:02secure peace in Gaza or elsewhere.
01:07And we must also guarantee the safety and security of Israel.
01:13Only then we can have real peace.
01:16Real peace.
01:19Indonesian officials say they're joining the board to defend Palestinian interests from
01:23within, as Palestine isn't represented while Israel is.
01:28Indonesia's presence on the board should not be interpreted as normalization of political
01:33relations with any party, nor as a legitimization of any country's policies.
01:39An excuse that didn't convince Indonesians protesting outside the US embassy last week.
01:45At no point in Indonesia's history have we ever sat together in the same forum with colonizers.
01:52The Indonesian army has a long history, born from the people and fighting alongside the people.
01:58It should not be used for any particular political interests.
02:02Indonesia is one of the top ten contributors to United Nations peacekeeping missions.
02:06Its troops have served in Lebanon, among other countries.
02:09But there are concerns over how the troops will be used and who will pay for them,
02:13since the Board of Peace's Stabilization Force will operate outside the UN.
