00:14In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, peace be with you.
00:19On this second day of Lent, we continue our journey of renewal and conversion.
00:28Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins,
00:38and lead us into healing and life everlasting. Let us pray.
00:49Prompt our actions with your inspiration, we pray, O Lord, and further them with your constant help, that all we
00:57do may always begin from you and by you be brought to completion.
01:01Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
01:07God, forever and ever. Amen.
01:13A reading from the book of Deuteronomy.
01:41And the Lord, your God, will bless you in the land which you are entering to make your own.
01:49But if your heart strays, if you refuse to listen, if you let yourself be drawn into worshipping other gods
01:56and serving them, I tell you today, you will most certainly perish.
02:01You will not live long in the land you are crossing, the Jordan to enter, and possess.
02:08I call heaven and earth to witness against you today.
02:12I set before you life or death, blessing or curse.
02:17Choose life then so that you and your descendants may live in the love of the Lord your God,
02:23obeying his voice, clinging to him, for in this your life consists.
02:29And on this depends your long stay in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers Abraham, Isaac and
02:38Jacob.
02:39He would give them.
02:41The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
02:45Happy are they who hope in the Lord. Happy are they who hope in the Lord.
02:51Happy indeed is the man who follows not the counsel of the wicked, nor lingers in the way of sinners,
02:57nor sits in the company of scorners, but those whose delight is the law of the Lord,
03:06and who ponders his law day and night. Happy are they who hope in the Lord.
03:13They are like a tree that is planted beside the flowing waters, that uses fruit in due season,
03:19and whose leaves shall never fade, and all that they do shall prosper.
03:25Happy are those who hope in the Lord.
03:28Not so are the wicked, not so, for day like wind or shaft shall be driven away by the wind.
03:35For the Lord guards the way of the just, but the way of the wicked leads to doom.
03:40Happy are they who hope in the Lord.
03:46Praise and honor to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
03:49Repent, says the Lord, the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
03:53Praise and honor to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
03:56The Lord be with you.
03:58A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke.
04:02Glory to you, O Lord.
04:05Jesus said to his disciples,
04:07The Son of man is destined to suffer grievously,
04:10to be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes,
04:14and to be put to death, and to be raised up on the third day.
04:20Then to all he said,
04:23If anyone wants to be a follower of mine,
04:25let them renounce themselves and take up their cross every day and follow me.
04:30For anyone who wants to save their life will lose it,
04:33but anyone who loses their life for my sake,
04:36that person will save it.
04:39What gain then is it for someone to have won the whole world,
04:43and to have lost or ruined their very self?
04:48The Gospel of the Lord.
04:50Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
04:57Why do bad things happen to good people?
05:00I think there's a number of reasons for that.
05:05There is a sense of a prosperity gospel that some people hold on to.
05:11If you do the right thing, you will do well.
05:14You will get riches and money.
05:17Well, there are many poor saints.
05:21Money, as Jesus said, is not the be or an end,
05:23or you can have the whole world and lose yourself.
05:27The passion and death of Jesus reminds us
05:30that just because bad things happen to good people,
05:33it doesn't mean God has abandoned them
05:35or they're being punished or something like that.
05:38Jesus did no wrong and look at what happened to him.
05:42But his resurrection is the sign that God is with us
05:46and nothing can ever come between us and the love of God.
05:50So there's much mystery in life,
05:53but we hold on to some fundamental truths
05:55that guide us like light in darkness,
05:59the light of Christ and his message.
06:02He's also saying that part of our life is to make decisions
06:05to say yes to God in whatever happens,
06:08just like he did.
06:10Take up your cross every day and follow me.
06:14That means whatever happens in life,
06:16we do it with faith and hope
06:17and we react with faith, hope and love.
06:49Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,
06:51for to your goodness we have this bread to offer,
06:54which earth has given human hands have made.
06:57It will become for us the bread of life.
06:59Blessed be God forever.
07:12Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,
07:14for to your goodness we have this wine to offer,
07:17fruit of divine work of human hands.
07:19It will become a spiritual drink.
07:21Blessed be God forever.
07:31Let us pray, brothers and sisters,
07:33that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable
07:36to God our almighty Father.
07:38May the Lord accept the sacrifice at our hands
07:41to the praise and glory of God's name,
07:44for our good and the good of God's holy church.
07:48We guard with favour, O Lord, we pray,
07:51the offerings we set upon this sacred altar
07:53and bestowing on us pardon our oblations
07:56may give honour to your name.
07:58Through Christ our Lord.
08:00Amen.
08:08The Lord be with you.
08:11Lift up your hearts.
08:13Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
08:16It is truly right and just our duty and our salvation
08:19always and everywhere to give you thanks,
08:22Lord, Holy Father, almighty and eternal God.
08:25We have given your children a sacred time
08:28for the renewing and purifying of their hearts,
08:31that freed from disordered affections,
08:34they may so deal with the things of this passing world
08:37as to rather hold to the things that are eternally enduring.
08:41And so with all the angels and saints we praise you,
08:45as without end we acclaim
08:46holy, holy, holy Lord, God of hosts.
08:51Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
08:54Hosanna in the highest.
08:56Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
09:00Hosanna in the highest.
09:06You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.
09:09Make holy, therefore, these gifts we pray,
09:12by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,
09:15so they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
09:20At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion,
09:24he took bread and giving thanks and praise broke it
09:28and gave it to his disciples saying,
09:31Take this all of you and eat of it,
09:33for this is my body which will be given up for you.
09:42In a similar way, when supper was ended,
09:45he took the chalice and once more giving thanks,
09:48he gave it to his disciples saying,
09:50Take this all of you and drink from it,
09:53for this is the chalice of my blood,
09:55the blood of the new and eternal covenant,
09:58which will be pulled out for you and for many
10:02for the forgiveness of sins.
10:04Do this in memory of me.
10:12The mystery of faith.
10:15Save us, Savior of the world,
10:17for by your cross and resurrection you have set us free.
10:23Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection,
10:27we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation,
10:31giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you.
10:37Humbly we pray that, partaking of the body and blood of Christ,
10:41we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
10:45Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world
10:48and bring her to the fullness of charity.
10:51Together with Leo, our Pope,
10:53meet your unworthy servant and all the clergy
10:56and the entire people your son has gained for you.
10:59Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep
11:03in the hope of the resurrection
11:05and all who have died in your mercy.
11:08Welcome them into the light of your face.
11:11Have mercy on us all, we pray,
11:13that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
11:16Blessed Joseph has passed,
11:18with the blessed apostles and all the saints
11:20who have preached you throughout the ages,
11:22we may, through your grace,
11:24merit to be coerced to eternal life
11:26and may praise and glorify you
11:28through your Son, Jesus Christ.
11:33Through him and with him and in him, O God Almighty Father,
11:37in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
11:39all glory and honor is yours forever and ever. Amen.
11:45At the Saviour's command and formed by divine teaching,
11:48we dare to say,
11:50Our Father who art in heaven,
11:52hallowed be thy name,
11:54thy kingdom come,
11:55thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11:58Give us this day our daily bread
12:00and forgive us our trespasses
12:02as we forgive those who trespass against us
12:06and lead us not into temptation
12:08but deliver us from evil.
12:10Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil.
12:13Graciously grant peace in our days
12:15that by the help of your mercy
12:17we may be always free from sin
12:19and safe from all distress
12:21as we await the blessed hope
12:23and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
12:26For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
12:30now and forever.
12:32Lord Jesus Christ who said to your apostles,
12:35peace I leave you, my peace I give you.
12:37Look not on our sins but on the faith of your church
12:40and graciously grant her peace and unity
12:43in accordance with your will,
12:45who live and reign forever and ever.
12:47Amen.
12:48The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.
12:52Let us offer each other a sign of his peace.
12:55Peace be with you.
12:58Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.
13:02Have mercy on us.
13:04Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.
13:07Have mercy on us.
13:09Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.
13:13Grant us peace.
13:26Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
13:30Happy are those who are called to the supper of the Lamb.
13:33Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof,
13:36but only say the world and my soul shall be healed.
13:40My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament.
13:45I love you above all things and I desire to receive you into my soul.
13:50Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
13:54come at least spiritually into my heart.
13:56I embrace you as if you were already there
13:58and unite myself wholly to you.
14:02Never permit me to be separated from you.
14:05Amen.
14:07Let us pray.
14:17Having received the blessing of your heavenly gifts,
14:20we humbly beseech you, almighty God,
14:22that they may always be for us the source of bond, of pardon, and of salvation.
14:26Through Christ our Lord, the Lord be with you.
14:30And may the peace and the blessing of the Father and of the Son
14:33and of the Holy Spirit come upon you and remain always with you.
14:36Let us go and live the Gospel.
14:39Thanks be to God. God bless your day.
14:43God bless you.
14:43God bless you.
