00:03I'm excited to now welcome our next guest, Karine Dusser-Sarith,
00:09Executive Vice President of Marketing, Design, and Open Innovation at Orange.
00:14The French multinational specializes, of course, in a range of services like telecommunications,
00:20internet services, and digital TV, with a strong focus on innovation and technology.
00:25Now, of course, we have the upcoming Rugby World Cup, as well as the Paris 2024 Olympics,
00:31which will mark a new milestone to serve as a showcase for Orange's cutting-edge innovations.
00:38All of this as wireless technology and the needs for a hyper-connected society
00:43continue to push the telecommunications to new horizons.
00:47Welcome to the show.
00:48Yes, hi.
00:49So, the impact of telecommunications on society has not only been related to enabling voice and data connectivity,
00:56but also the way we experience daily life, thinking about AR, blended and extended reality.
01:03Can you talk us through the exciting technology advances that have led to major business opportunities for a company like
01:10yours?
01:11Yes, sure.
01:12So, first of all, let's just put it that way.
01:14We are in the very, very beginning of a new era.
01:17Before, it was science fiction, right?
01:20Immersive technology, immersive experience.
01:22We all, you know, have watched movies, you know, read books.
01:25But now, it's becoming a reality.
01:27Why?
01:27Because now, we've got the processing, computing power meeting the network capabilities.
01:35And you need these two worlds combined to make it happen.
01:39So, that's the first thing is we are now entering a phase whereby new things are possible.
01:44And I want to stress that because it's fairly difficult to predict what's going to happen.
01:50But now, at least, we have the different enablers of the ecosystem to make that happen.
01:57On Objectly Orange, as a key network provider, we are providing one of the key enablers to achieve and to
02:03make sure that this is going to be possible.
02:05So, now, if you look at a consumer, our research shows that 40% of all consumers, any consumer on
02:13the planet, basically, project themselves into these new experiences.
02:17So, it's not science fiction anymore.
02:19Now, they can see that the enablers are here.
02:21They've, you know, and they project themselves into this new world of, you know, immersive experience.
02:27And, obviously, recently, the last but not least ingredients that an enabler that you need is the headset.
02:34And you can see that all the big brands, Microsoft, Meta, and now Apple, have released their headsets.
02:39So, we've got all the ingredients.
02:41And we are orange.
02:43We always, we are quite humble.
02:45And we said, okay, we're bringing some of the enabling.
02:47And we're also working with different parts of the ecosystem to make that happen.
02:51But we need creative mindset.
02:53We need, you know, people to invent those new services.
02:57What we've done so far is putting all these ingredients together.
03:00And, for example, we've worked with Snapchat on a B2C application, leveraging the 5G, you know, a very powerful network.
03:09And you are, as a visitor, you are in front of Notre Dame.
03:12And you can see Notre Dame in a very interactive way through your smartphone with a kind of augmented reality
03:20slash immersive experience.
03:22And it's now live in Paris.
03:24Without 5G and the processing computing that Snapchat can bring into the experience and from the headset, it's not going
03:32to be possible.
03:32So, it's a very, very early start.
03:35But we are really confident.
03:36I am really excited about that future, especially when, you know, you can, again, I repeat that 40% of
03:43our consumers strongly believe that it's the new world.
03:46And they would love to be in that new world.
03:48On the note of 5G, how is Orange leveraging technologies like 5G, AI, and extended reality to provide immersive experiences
03:57for major sporting events?
03:58Yes.
03:59So, obviously, you name them, right?
04:02In this immersive experience, you can, you know, assist, you can attend a live concert, you can visit a virtual
04:08museum.
04:08Fairly nascent, you know, initiatives for the moment.
04:12Sport, for us, it's like, I mean, sport, it's like car manufacturers' life-like formula because it's the cutting edge,
04:19you know, way to test things and, you know, breaking ground on new things.
04:24So, for us, we've been a long-time partner of sporting events.
04:28Two are coming up in France, World, you know, Rugby Cup, as you said, and Paris Olympics.
04:34So, we are now in a kind of laboratory.
04:37We are not accountable for everything.
04:39You know, we are accountable for the connectivity and working, you know, daily with Olympic Games to make sure that
04:48we can leverage our network to, you know, to have new experiences.
04:51For example, and we have here at Oldo some of the examples, we've worked with a rugby, you know, team.
05:01We call it Touche Rugby Augmenté.
05:03So, it's a new way to train the athletes using, you know, immersive experiences.
05:09We also have 3D volumetric capture.
05:12We strongly believe, and you can see that when you are, you know, watching a live event, people want more.
05:17They want the live, they want their smartphone, they want to know everything about athletes, they want the stats, they
05:23want to be projected into what happened, you know, what's going to happen next, what happened before.
05:27So, we are enabling all this, you know, together.
05:31We've run an experiment called Augmented Match, whereby you can see that you watch the match and you can also
05:37watch what's going on on your smartphone at the same time using what we call digital twin technology.
05:44So, it's early days, but we are, again, confident that there is a demand, and so we need to provide
05:51the demand with the ecosystem.
05:53It's not only Orange as network provider.
05:55We need organizers, we need athletes, you know, to be part of that, and we need fans to respond well
06:00to whatever innovation we can propose.
06:03Absolutely.
06:04Well, with that, we are out of time, but this is very fascinating, super innovative and exciting as we get
06:09into some major sporting events coming up.
06:11So, thanks so much for joining us.
06:12Thank you.
