00:00This huge skeletal dog was starving and chained.
00:06He's in a very small enclosure, sort of yard.
00:13He hadn't had enough food in a very, very, very long time.
00:17If we hadn't walked down that street that day,
00:20I don't know how much longer he would have been there.
00:31Such a good boy.
00:34Hello, Mama.
00:36Hello, how are you?
00:38We're just checking how you guys are doing.
00:40He just wasn't gaining weight.
00:43It was not something the family could afford to keep doing,
00:46and even with our supplementing, he wasn't looking any better.
00:49He was always so gentle, taking food gently from you,
00:53letting other animals share the food,
00:55and I think that's because his owners remained kind,
00:57even if they didn't have the resources for him.
00:58It was inevitable that he had to come with us,
01:01but we did want it to be the family's decision too.
01:05The dad actually said,
01:06listen, there isn't food for us, there isn't food for him,
01:08please take him.
01:11We'll leave some food for now,
01:13and we're going to start looking for a home for him.
01:18Hey, Groot, where should we be?
01:22Within a few months, he looked like a completely different dog.
01:25The lovely thing with Groot is for all of the extreme visual
01:28rules of his rescue and how it would be quite reasonable for him
01:32to have developed extreme personality traits with that,
01:34he's actually just a big, silly baby.
01:39He is definitely one of those miracle dogs that's kind of like rags to riches.
01:42whoo heel, he's a good boy!
01:45Uh-huh.
01:54Good boy!
