00:00:25The Best All-Rounders
00:00:55and the left arm spin of Richard Illingworth into the line-up.
00:00:59But it is that batting line-up, isn't it?
00:01:01White is going to have a go at opening
00:01:03and Russell's moved up to five.
00:01:06Yeah, well, I think Jack Russell has actually been probably our best player just recently.
00:01:10He's improvised very well at the depth.
00:01:11He's very hard to bowl at.
00:01:13He's a little bit like Alan Knot.
00:01:14In fact, he's a clone.
00:01:15Alan Knot was his hero and he's emulating him in many ways.
00:01:19OK, let's have a look at the South African team.
00:01:20They've made three changes.
00:01:21They are able to relax a little bit now, if you like.
00:01:24But they don't want to start losing, if they can possibly help it.
00:01:27Snell is back to open.
00:01:29Andrew Hudson's taking this one out.
00:01:30No Alan Donald.
00:01:32No Matthew.
00:01:33So, Lance Kluzner is going to make his debut
00:01:36as a one-day international cricketer for South Africa.
00:01:38And we're going to have our second look at Paul Adams.
00:01:40He hasn't played since that case.
00:01:43OK, Charles.
00:01:43Well, I think we're all set down here.
00:01:44It's a story of a little bit of pitches and patches.
00:01:46One of the patches I'm going to talk about is the wet one out at mid-off there,
00:01:50which has been seen to by the ground staff.
00:01:52It was very damp this morning.
00:01:53It had a lot of rain overnight.
00:01:55They've put a lot of sawdust down there now to cope with it.
00:01:57Now, the pitch itself, well, they've done some pretty hard work on this too.
00:02:01Normally speaking, it's apparently a very low, slow bouncing pitch, this one.
00:02:04Now, they've left quite a bit of green grass on this,
00:02:06although the cut has been over it in the last ten minutes or so.
00:02:09That's just to try and get some more bounce, some more life back into this pitch.
00:02:12But as far as the seams are concerned, I'm not sure it's really going to work.
00:02:15The local word is it's still going to be pretty low, still pretty slow.
00:02:18One other factor just to look at, though, is a little bit further up on more of a spinner's length,
00:02:23where it's another patch.
00:02:24This one's a very bare patch.
00:02:26And you can see here what lies underneath the grass that we saw further up.
00:02:29Very, very dark, heavy soil.
00:02:31There's one or two grass clippings rolled into it.
00:02:33But if the ball pitches there, you're going to get absolutely nothing.
00:02:35Maybe just a bit of turn for the off spinner.
00:02:37The breeze is coming right behind me here,
00:02:39so it's drifting across for the off spinner here as well,
00:02:41which means if it does turn, interesting when the batsman try and hit through extra cover.
00:02:44By and large, still low and slow.
00:02:46Not a great pitch to baton, I don't think.
00:02:49Therefore, possibly a slightly low scoring game.
00:02:52Thank you very much, David.
00:02:53Now then, let's see what happened when the toss took place.
00:02:56This was the two captains out in the middle a short while ago.
00:03:00And Bob Willis is now with both of those gentlemen.
00:03:05The weather's just about perfect down in the middle and nothing much changes
00:03:08because Hansi Cronje has won the toss again.
00:03:10What are you going to do today, Hansi?
00:03:12Well, we're going to have a bat first.
00:03:13Whilst the weather's good and whilst the pitch looks alright,
00:03:16we're going to have a bat.
00:03:17Now, you're going to give Alan Donald a rest today
00:03:19and an opportunity for two of your younger players.
00:03:21Yes, we've got Lance Klusner who comes into the side
00:03:24and obviously the left arm spinner Paul Adams needs to have another go.
00:03:27And what about the batting? Who's going to open up for you?
00:03:30We've got Richard Snell and Gary Kirsten up front.
00:03:33Great, Hansi. Thanks for talking to us. All the best today.
00:03:36Michael, a bit of an experimentation in the England batting line-up today.
00:03:40Well, Alex injured. Neil Farber that comes in for him.
00:03:43We're going to open with Craig White.
00:03:45So that must be good news for Craig White
00:03:46if you're showing enough faith in him to open the batting.
00:03:49I think he's looked in good next so far in this part of the tour,
00:03:53the one-day games.
00:03:54You know, if we decide to use a kind of hitter up the order in the World Cup,
00:03:58we want to find out who's our best person.
00:04:01And there's an opportunity for Richard Ellingworth today?
00:04:03Yeah, we're going to play a spinner.
00:04:04It's quite a big ground.
00:04:06The pitch looks okay, so I think a bit of variation would go down well.
00:04:10And what would you have done if you'd won the toss?
00:04:12Not a clue.
00:04:16He's beaten Kirsten again.
00:04:21No slips in position, Ian. Are you surprised about that?
00:04:25No, not really, because I don't think it's going to carry very well.
00:04:28And Paul Adams back into the 11.
00:04:32Snell off the mark.
00:04:38Cork at Longleg.
00:04:45Good stroke by Kirsten. Square the wicket.
00:04:47That'll go through point for four runs.
00:04:49A very convincing first boundary of the day for South Africa.
00:04:59Gary Kirsten doesn't miss very much outside that off-stump when it's got a bit of width.
00:05:04Fine cutter.
00:05:08Oh, it's a long spinner at the death block.
00:05:13Lack of pace and bounce there.
00:05:15Kirsten going for the big wahoo through the offside,
00:05:19but the ball barely bouncing nine inches.
00:05:24But he's literally played over the top of that.
00:05:28It is a call in the trade.
00:05:29The gazunder ball.
00:05:39Oh, there's trouble here.
00:05:43There's complete pandemonium out in the middle.
00:05:46I think the fielder at the Buffalo Park drive end has kicked the stumps over
00:05:51and didn't have time to get down to Jack Russell.
00:05:54The stumps broken by the fielder's feet.
00:05:58So the batsmen had all the time in the world to get back.
00:06:02England changed their mind and then went to the other end.
00:06:05Just have a look at this.
00:06:14Graham Thorpe getting himself into a real mess, rolling over the stumps.
00:06:24And Graham Thorpe trips over the stumps.
00:06:26Dominic Cork trips over him.
00:06:28And then in the end it goes to the other end.
00:06:32And South Africa really should have been one wicket down.
00:06:36Instead, they're 11 for none.
00:06:42A real comedy of errors out in the middle.
00:06:50Martin to Kirsten.
00:06:53He's got that through mid-wicket.
00:07:01Craig White can't cut that off at the extra cover boundary.
00:07:04Another boundary for Gary Kirsten.
00:07:09Kirsten on to 11.
00:07:10Richard Snell has three.
00:07:11South Africa 15 without loss.
00:07:15Peter Martin getting a little bit more bounce.
00:07:21Kirsten hitting that.
00:07:22To the organising committee in India.
00:07:25By close of play on Monday.
00:07:27That's straight to mid-on and well taken.
00:07:33Robin Smith at mid-on.
00:07:34That's the end of Gary Kirsten.
00:07:36England have broken through.
00:07:37South Africa 25 for one.
00:07:44Success for Dominic Cork.
00:07:46And he deserves it.
00:07:47He's kept things very tight.
00:07:48He's only conceded seven runs.
00:07:49And now he's picked up the wicket of Kirsten.
00:07:51Switching to round the wicket.
00:07:53Not to give Gary Kirsten much room outside the off stump.
00:07:56And he goes, attempts to go over mid-on.
00:07:59And Robin Smith judging that very well.
00:08:03And 25 for one now South Africa.
00:08:11South African captain Hansy Cronier in at number three.
00:08:14Very healthy batting average.
00:08:1635 in one day cricket.
00:08:18That's extremely good going.
00:08:21He's come in to replace.
00:08:22Robin Smith took a very good catch here.
00:08:26White ball.
00:08:28Bright sunny day.
00:08:30Coming out of the crowd.
00:08:33And he gets it very well in the top left-hand corner.
00:08:37Dominic Cork had just gone round the wicket to clamp up.
00:08:40Gary Kirsten not giving much room outside the off stump.
00:08:42So he attempts to go over mid-on.
00:08:45And you can see that ball swinging there.
00:08:48Robin Smith adjusting very well out of the crowd, out of the sky.
00:08:58Inside edge.
00:09:03So literally ignoring the appeal, quite rightly.
00:09:12I don't think that had been too much doubt as to his decision had there not been an inside edge.
00:09:22Hard deciding that was.
00:09:23Giving the run.
00:09:35Oh, it's taken a good catch.
00:09:37Very good catch.
00:09:39Mike Allerton at mid-wicket.
00:09:41That short mid-wicket position.
00:09:44And that's exactly why he's there.
00:09:46Richard Snell just looking to try and get that ball away through mid-wicket.
00:09:50Not easy to hit the ball on the up on this pitch.
00:09:54Straight at Mike Allerton.
00:09:56Very firmly.
00:10:05So that girl lose their second wicket on 29.
00:10:13Jack Callis is the new batsman.
00:10:16Replacing Richard Snell.
00:10:18Rid of Richard Snell.
00:10:21Yes, they haven't bothered with the slip all of the time so far.
00:10:24They've had the short fielders on either side, both at short mid-wicket and short extra cover.
00:10:29Very, very difficult for the batsman to control that sort of stroke.
00:10:36I'll tell you one thing, that position there, it's 15 yards or so from the bat.
00:10:40It's pretty close if anyone strikes the ball hard.
00:10:44Oh, a ball.
00:10:46That's got him. Yes, that's the perfect delivery.
00:10:50Slower ball, the Yorker.
00:10:51Jack Callis looks as though he never picked it up at all.
00:10:54A change of pace completely receiving the batsman.
00:10:58That's brilliant effort from Peter Martin.
00:11:00Absolutely brilliant effort.
00:11:02And the great smile on his face and all of his teammates show you.
00:11:05He's thought that out very closely.
00:11:07Watch Callis and just have a look at that.
00:11:09He's completely bemused by Martin's lack of pace there.
00:11:14He's almost given it air.
00:11:17Caught in no man's land.
00:11:20Well done, Peter Martin.
00:11:23South Africa, 29 for three.
00:11:42Brown McMillan now in a position where he needs to avert a crisis for South Africa.
00:11:48He's lost three wickets for four runs in just ten balls.
00:11:53That's a good firm shot from the captain.
00:11:57Quite a big field here at Buffalo Park.
00:12:16Beautifully timed by Hansi Cronier, just leaning on that and he ran very quickly.
00:12:21And Rachel Illingworth had no chance of stopping him to get three when really there was only the possibility of
00:12:27two.
00:12:28And that was good thinking to get the ball to the other end.
00:12:31Brown McMillan hadn't for one minute expected to be the man put under pressure.
00:12:44And safely in.
00:12:58And there's that bit of bowling by Peter Martin that caused chaos for Jacques Callis.
00:13:04And that nearly caused some chaos.
00:13:07Brown McMillan too.
00:13:08That's a little wide from Cork.
00:13:10But he's also tended to drift towards Leg Stump, trying to get his outswinger going.
00:13:14He wants to start the ball around middle and leg.
00:13:17He's better in one day cricket starting his outswinger around middle and off and off.
00:13:22And making the batsman hit the ball on the side that has the most fielders, which is the offside.
00:13:27Five fielders there.
00:13:30Cork caused some damage in Durban.
00:13:33Six overs, two for eight in his first spell.
00:13:44Too impressed with that Dominic Cork.
00:13:47And then they've had one or two, not disagreements, but debates with David Orchard.
00:13:56That's a pretty good shout.
00:13:57David Orchard will reckon that Brown McMillan has just about got outside the line of the off stump.
00:14:13Runs away very fast down here.
00:14:15And Peter Martin does brilliantly.
00:14:16Quite brilliantly.
00:14:18Terrific effort from the big English fast bowler.
00:14:20That's the sort of commitment you can win matches.
00:14:23So many of these games go to one or two runs.
00:14:27Peter Martin can be proud of that.
00:14:35It's not the line that Dominic Cork wants to bowl.
00:15:0012.
00:15:02It seems that England have settled pretty much with Cork and Peter Martin.
00:15:07It's a very adequate new ball attack.
00:15:14Well, a good start, it seems. Dave Orchard isn't going to respond.
00:15:18At least not by raising his finger.
00:15:27It's a pretty good shout by Darren Goff.
00:15:29Might just have been a little high.
00:15:31Dave Orchard had no interest whatsoever.
00:15:34Yeah, that's a good umpiring.
00:15:45Worth another shout.
00:15:50Darren Goff, two shouts in two balls.
00:15:53Both certainly worth the effort.
00:16:02And even the dog, Jug Russell, couldn't get to that.
00:16:07Very well bowled by Peter Martin.
00:16:10Big nip backer darting back off the seam.
00:16:13There hasn't been a great deal of movement off the seam throughout this summer.
00:16:17None of the pitches have offered great deal to seam bowling.
00:16:20But this one, the Samaritan players were very surprised by that.
00:16:24The situations win.
00:16:27The batsmen are looking for runs.
00:16:28Obviously, they're always looking for runs.
00:16:30But you've got to consolidate.
00:16:31That happens at Kingsmeade.
00:16:3450 up for South Africa.
00:16:37Hansi Cronje and Jacques Cullis came in at this quarter.
00:16:43That's a pretty good ball by White.
00:16:45It's all over for Hansi Cronje.
00:16:47He's finally lost his patience.
00:16:50And that is game, set and match to Craig White.
00:16:58Nothing left standing.
00:17:03Well, Hansi, I think, was in two minds here.
00:17:06He was going to run it down.
00:17:07Then he was going to...
00:17:08No, and it came back at him.
00:17:09And knocked them all out.
00:17:11All out the park.
00:17:13I think Hansi just finished the job off.
00:17:1554 for four.
00:17:42So here is the end of Hansi Cronje, two stumps out of the ground.
00:17:47And John T. Rhodes is the new batsman with South Africa 54 for four in the 20th.
00:17:58And that was a sweet moment for Craig White.
00:18:01One more look at the dismissal of Hansi Cronje on the super slow-mo.
00:18:06Inside edge.
00:18:07Middle and leg goes.
00:18:09Off stump is left standing.
00:18:11And then Hansi, I think, just felt that he looked much neater with them all out the ground.
00:18:18So he sorted that out as well.
00:18:23Cut that one.
00:18:25Getting an inside edge.
00:18:27Getting an inside edge.
00:18:27But I think it would probably have bowled them anyway.
00:18:28Because it came back fairly sharply.
00:18:32Giving himself a bit of room.
00:18:34That's two of them out the ground.
00:18:36And their confidence will have bounced right back.
00:18:38Last ball of Goff's over.
00:18:40And that is absolutely...
00:18:44Once again, no luck for Goff.
00:18:46And it's 56 for four.
00:18:5156 for four.
00:18:53John T. Rhodes facing Craig White.
00:18:59Impassioned appeal from White and Russell.
00:19:08Stip pretty straight.
00:19:10Dragging back at John T.
00:19:12But that was a bit high.
00:19:14Might have just missed the leg stump as well.
00:19:16But push out.
00:19:23John T. Rhodes is having a bit of a charmed life at the moment.
00:19:25This was the last ball of Darren Goff's over.
00:19:28Wretched luck for the Yorkshire bowler.
00:19:31Inside edge.
00:19:33Past the stumps.
00:19:35A batting all-rounder would be more valuable
00:19:39than a third spinner in New York-Pakistan.
00:19:47Good stroke.
00:19:50Craig White switched to the...
00:19:51Buffalo card drive under the ground.
00:19:55And...
00:19:55either Heen or Michael Atherton.
00:19:58Reckoned it was worth having the deep square leg back on the fence,
00:20:01as he had been for Goff.
00:20:03Brian McMillan spotted the chance.
00:20:06Played a very good stroke.
00:20:07Brian McMillan's very good in the one-day game.
00:20:09Walking inside the line of the ball
00:20:11and picking up anything that's straight away on the leg side.
00:20:15He really was soaking about an hour before the start.
00:20:21That's nicely done by Brian McMillan.
00:20:24Five of that over and South Africa are 63 for four.
00:20:28He's bowling...
00:20:30Brian McMillan, who's attempting to play the fulcrum innings for South Africa.
00:20:34But he's finding it as heavy going as everybody else is.
00:20:43What an interesting shot from Brian McMillan.
00:20:49And I'm just wondering whether this should have been a wide all the same.
00:20:52And he enjoys.
00:20:58Fantastic shot, McMillan just thumping into it.
00:21:01It's actually pitched in one of the damp bits
00:21:04that was a flurry of chalk from the painting of the sponsor's name.
00:21:08That took the pace out of the ball.
00:21:11The edge like that, that's racing away.
00:21:13And nothing that Robin Smith can do about it.
00:21:18Clever batting from Brian McMillan, prepared to try anything.
00:21:21To upset the boat.
00:21:23Puller.
00:21:28And Ellyworth would be disappointed to have strayed down the leg side.
00:21:31When he bowls straight, he's making it very difficult to get the ball that fine.
00:21:36When he drifts it down the leg side, it's much easier to get it that fine.
00:21:4230 overs completed and only five boundaries in this South African innings.
00:21:47In on this particular strip.
00:21:52I have to hurry here.
00:21:59If you want someone to hurry, Jonty Rhodes is your man.
00:22:06And he's on the back foot, that's the amazing thing.
00:22:08I mean, he really should have to struggle there.
00:22:13Would have been tight and he might have just made it.
00:22:16The most disciplined fashion we've seen so far in the series.
00:22:20And exactly as I say that, Jonty Rhodes punches the offside field.
00:22:24As Dominic Cole drops a bit short.
00:22:28So that seems to me as if I should clear out of the way.
00:22:31The bat on.
00:22:37It's Jonty getting this one through, no sweeper.
00:22:40A bit short, a bit wide of the off stump.
00:22:43Back with square leg where Jonty goes for the big one.
00:22:46Catch it!
00:22:47That's Lofter.
00:22:48Should be a nice simple catch, certainly as Darren Goff takes it.
00:22:52And Jonty Rhodes never really in position for the shot.
00:22:55The ball didn't come on.
00:22:56He shouldn't have been surprised by that.
00:23:00Unable to follow through and certainly unable to clear Darren Goff.
00:23:08I think Jonty caught in two minds really, I think he probably may sweep to start with, but it was
00:23:13a bit straighter than he anticipated.
00:23:16And in the end playing a disappointing shot.
00:23:21South Africa 89 for five.
00:23:27Lance Klusner is the new man to the crease, playing his first one-day international.
00:23:33Plays his cricket in this country for Natal.
00:23:36Jonty Rhodes, a fellow Natal player, was the last man out.
00:23:40Very ambitious shot.
00:23:41Never really allowed himself the luxury to follow through.
00:23:44Trying to tip it, I think, wide of mid on.
00:23:46Just go over and round, but never getting hold of it.
00:23:49A little bit of an outside edge.
00:23:51Leading edge.
00:23:53Just lobbed it up.
00:23:54It's a very, very simple catch for Darren Goff.
00:23:57But only Macmillan, really, has managed to find.
00:24:01Seven to four.
00:24:02Now it's very close.
00:24:05Darren Goff can't believe that he hasn't got the decision.
00:24:14Yes, Darren Goff thought he had this one.
00:24:17And that looks very close.
00:24:18That straightened in onto the left-hander.
00:24:20It was a fair way forward.
00:24:23That certainly was a very good shot.
00:24:26I'm sure that it's only the forward movement that has put a little bit of doubt into Dave Orchard's mind.
00:24:36Oh, that's close as well.
00:24:37This time he's got him.
00:24:39This time on the back foot.
00:24:40Trapped right in front.
00:24:44And the ball hardly bouncing at all.
00:24:46So not a happy start to an international career for Lance Cluesen.
00:24:49They're gone without scoring.
00:24:57Good bowling by Darren Goff.
00:25:00That one, Lance Cluesen going on the back foot.
00:25:03And that's Plum in front.
00:25:05No doubts about that one.
00:25:08Certainly a tough time for Lance Cluesen.
00:25:10Tough situation in his first international.
00:25:13South Africa, 89 for six.
00:25:18Wickets tumbling thick and fast here.
00:25:21And Sean Pollock is the latest man at the crease.
00:25:30And that's beaten the dive.
00:25:32Sean Pollock off the mark.
00:25:36The ball won't reach the boundary.
00:25:43Sean Pollock takes three to open his account.
00:25:46Takes the strike as well.
00:25:51and his skills
00:25:52as beaten feels
00:25:58and he'll get three for that
00:26:00Craig White is the man who made the mistake
00:26:11and there's a man who's normally
00:26:13one of the better fielders
00:26:15very good safe pair of hands
00:26:17specialist in this position at cover
00:26:19and at the gully
00:26:24oh he's got him
00:26:25no doubt about that
00:26:26clean ball
00:26:32that's the way to do it
00:26:38and Sean Pollock's experiments
00:26:40on this Buffalo Park pitch
00:26:41come to a very dramatic end
00:26:47good bowling by Darren Goff
00:26:49he certainly has bowled well
00:26:50he's got the ball to move in
00:26:51he's got it to straighten up on the left
00:26:52on the right-hander
00:26:54and Sean Pollock
00:26:55not really using his feet there
00:26:57but that ball pitching probably
00:26:59just about off stump
00:27:00and holding its own
00:27:01and knocking for the off stump
00:27:03right out the ground
00:27:26well dramatic stuff
00:27:27always nice for the fast bowler to see
00:27:30the off stump
00:27:31cart wheeling out the ground
00:27:32Sean Pollock in a bad position
00:27:34in Yorker
00:27:36and Dave Richardson did well
00:27:38to get some bet on that
00:27:45that's got to be very very close
00:27:47and he's got him
00:27:48Dave Alter
00:27:50putting up the finger
00:27:51after due consideration
00:27:52that really kept low
00:27:55Dave Richardson lasting just two balls
00:28:00and Darren Goff
00:28:01picking up his third wicket
00:28:03of the innings
00:28:09well Dave Richardson
00:28:10opting for the wrong option
00:28:11really on a wicket like this
00:28:12you've got to try and look
00:28:13to go forward
00:28:14not too short
00:28:15that is a little delivery
00:28:17but hitting him low down
00:28:18and in front
00:28:19and that's out
00:28:22well that would have scattered
00:28:23all the stumps
00:28:23but for Dave Richardson's pads
00:28:26eight wickets down now
00:28:31two runs short of the 100
00:28:32he's made that fatal error
00:28:34of going back on his stumps
00:28:36to one that kept low
00:28:37I think by now
00:28:39it should be apparent
00:28:39to the batsmen
00:28:41of both sides
00:28:42both the last couple
00:28:44here for South Africa
00:28:44and for all 11
00:28:57that was cleverly played by
00:29:04Brian McMillan
00:29:04who got well inside the line
00:29:06and flipped it away
00:29:07down a fine leg
00:29:09Darren Goff just drifting
00:29:11down the leg side
00:29:12and Bartman helping it
00:29:14on its way
00:29:15desperate dive
00:29:16from Peter Martin
00:29:18first you think
00:29:19he stopped it
00:29:20but the momentum
00:29:20of the ball
00:29:22just takes it over
00:29:23stepping inside
00:29:26big man gets down there
00:29:29you think he stopped it
00:29:31the ball just has
00:29:32enough momentum
00:29:36to just go over the line
00:29:38didn't get quite as much
00:29:39hand on it
00:29:40as I think he wanted
00:29:41now here comes Goff again
00:29:42this time to Fanny de Villiers
00:29:44who's gone down the wicket
00:29:44and over the top
00:29:46rare aggression from South Africa
00:29:50so this is a productive over
00:29:52for South Africa
00:29:54nine off it so far
00:29:57before this over
00:29:58we'd only had five boundaries
00:29:59we've now had seven
00:30:02it's a very good shot
00:30:03for Fanny de Villiers
00:30:04it's in the slot
00:30:05it's a length ball
00:30:06off stump
00:30:08Fanny de Villiers
00:30:09I think it's decided
00:30:10that anything that's up there
00:30:12is going to have a go at it
00:30:13and it's probably the best way
00:30:13for him to play on this wicket
00:30:14see that it's a long way
00:30:15from completion
00:30:22so Darren Goff
00:30:23finishes his spell
00:30:25an excellent one it is
00:30:27as well
00:30:27ten overs
00:30:29one maiden
00:30:31and three
00:30:32four
00:30:32twenty-five
00:30:33very very easily
00:30:35in that crowd
00:30:38well that's a typical example
00:30:40neither man at deep square legs
00:30:42saw anything of that
00:30:43and de Villiers
00:30:43has got four
00:30:46Dominic Call went one way
00:30:47Robin Smith went the other
00:30:48and the ball went smack in between
00:30:50the two of them
00:30:50for four
00:30:53and he's going for the sweep
00:30:55hitting it pretty well
00:30:58Dominic Cork at backwards square
00:30:59he went to his right
00:31:00the ball went to his left
00:31:02and Robin Smith went to his left
00:31:03and he went to his right
00:31:05exactly what we were talking about
00:31:10and he is very difficult
00:31:11at times for the boys
00:31:30there's the hit
00:31:31fine sweep
00:31:32and Dominic Cork
00:31:34oops
00:31:34oh no
00:31:35the other way
00:31:36oh that's a chance
00:31:38half a chance
00:31:38straight down the ground
00:31:40Illingworth got a bit of a hand on it
00:31:43it's two more
00:31:44to de Villiers
00:31:51I think Richard Illingworth
00:31:52saved himself two runs here
00:31:54Charles has hit very very hard
00:31:56and he just managed to get to the end
00:31:58of his fingers to it
00:31:59but took a bit of pace off it
00:32:00and probably saved himself two runs
00:32:06and that's Bowling
00:32:07Nick and Cork
00:32:10Craig White's done the business
00:32:11for England
00:32:13and South Africa
00:32:14are 128 for nine
00:32:18Craig White's done the same
00:32:20exactly the right place
00:32:24full Yorker length
00:32:25with a bit of in-duck
00:32:28and
00:32:29Charlie de Villiers
00:32:31I'm afraid is not up to it
00:32:33and that now takes over to 128
00:32:35for nine
00:32:40Paul Adams
00:32:41is the new batsman
00:32:42the last time he batted for South Africa
00:32:44it was in that
00:32:45historic last wicket partnership
00:32:47with Alan Doyle
00:32:49with David Richardson rather
00:32:50at Cape Town
00:32:51well South Africa
00:32:53are in trouble again
00:32:54and here is why
00:32:55Adams has come to the wicket
00:32:57the perfect delivery
00:32:58from Craig White
00:32:59to get rid of
00:33:00Farney de Villiers
00:33:02and can
00:33:03Adams now
00:33:05help Macmillan
00:33:07get this
00:33:08South African total up
00:33:09to something near respectability
00:33:11128 for nine
00:33:13in only 41 overs
00:33:17terrific deliverance
00:33:18and then the rib ball
00:33:19this being a one day game
00:33:22he thinks he's got MLBW
00:33:24but Cyril Mitchley
00:33:25isn't interested
00:33:34Cork
00:33:35just going down the leg side
00:33:41certainly wasn't going over the top
00:33:45just drifting down
00:33:51that's bowling
00:33:53and so this South African innings
00:33:55is all over
00:33:55they've been bowled out
00:33:57for 129
00:33:59in 41 overs
00:34:01and 4 balls
00:34:04and it means that
00:34:05England's openers
00:34:06will have to hurry off now
00:34:07because
00:34:08it's only
00:34:0922 minutes past 5
00:34:11local time
00:34:13and that means
00:34:14that England
00:34:14will just have
00:34:15a 10 minute break
00:34:16in between
00:34:17and then they will
00:34:18come out and bat
00:34:20until
00:34:216 o'clock
00:34:22and I think it was
00:34:23the lack of bounce
00:34:25which undid Adams there
00:34:27Adams
00:34:27this actually comes
00:34:29off the bottom
00:34:30of his bat
00:34:31onto the base
00:34:32of the off stamp
00:34:32and you're quite right
00:34:33Charles
00:34:34it was lack of bounce
00:34:36so Adams
00:34:37has gone for a duck
00:34:39and
00:34:39South Africa
00:34:40are all out
00:34:41for 129
00:34:46and this is the story
00:34:48of the South African innings
00:34:49in this 6th
00:34:50one day international
00:34:51Hansi Cronje won the toss
00:34:53he decided to bat first
00:34:56and at the halfway stage
00:34:57in you'd have to say
00:34:59it's a decision
00:35:00which hasn't worked for him
00:35:02that really should not
00:35:04be enough
00:35:04the England bowling figures
00:35:06England very happy
00:35:07with life
00:35:08last on this tour
00:35:11Cork 2 for 22
00:35:12Martin 2 for 23
00:35:14Darren Goff
00:35:153 for 25
00:35:16I thought Craig White
00:35:17was greatly improved today
00:35:18actually getting his
00:35:20in-swinger to go well
00:35:212 for 18
00:35:22and Illingworth
00:35:23won for 29
00:35:26to stroke play
00:35:28Pollock now to Atherton
00:35:32and there are lots of
00:35:33different ways
00:35:34that you can go about
00:35:35chasing
00:35:35what is a relatively
00:35:36small target
00:35:37in 50 overs
00:35:46David
00:35:47and Mike Lowerson
00:35:48and Craig White
00:35:49have every right
00:35:50to expect a few
00:35:51deliveries like this
00:35:52great delivery
00:35:53from Sean Pollock
00:35:53great line
00:35:54great
00:35:56good length
00:35:57just nipping away
00:35:57a little bit
00:36:00it's the first time
00:36:01that we've seen
00:36:02a little bit of grass
00:36:03on a surface
00:36:04off which the ball
00:36:05has moved
00:36:05from the seam
00:36:06David
00:36:08yes
00:36:08just imagine
00:36:09what this would
00:36:09have been like
00:36:10had it been
00:36:10a truly hard
00:36:12well made surface
00:36:13underneath the grass
00:36:21England off the mark
00:36:22I don't mind
00:36:23I mean it's an effort
00:36:24from the groundsman
00:36:25here
00:36:25he's done something
00:36:26he hopes to try
00:36:27and make it a better pitch
00:36:28it hasn't really succeeded
00:36:36good shout from Sean Pollock
00:36:39keeping a little bit low
00:36:40might have just drifted
00:36:41away down the leg side
00:36:48it's the same sort of delivery
00:36:49we've seen any number
00:36:50of times today
00:36:51not bouncing very much
00:36:55Sean Pollock's natural
00:36:57movement is into the right
00:36:58hander
00:37:00that would have gone
00:37:01down leg sides
00:37:0250 odd
00:37:02and playing with a lot
00:37:03of bravery
00:37:04and a lot of skill
00:37:07that's a super stroke
00:37:08made room
00:37:09and he's going to get
00:37:10four for it
00:37:11that really is a super stroke
00:37:20England are nine for no
00:37:21with it
00:37:27good shot as you say Mark
00:37:28he's watched the ball so well
00:37:30that's what's allowed him
00:37:31to middle it
00:37:32giving himself room again
00:37:34that's as you were saying
00:37:35absolutely his strength
00:37:36brilliant field
00:37:37isn't it
00:37:38second step position
00:37:42and out
00:37:45Craig White goes
00:37:48just flashing away
00:37:49outside his off stump
00:37:51there will be an extra bounce
00:37:53there for the Villiers
00:37:54and enough movement
00:37:56to keep all the South African
00:37:57close fielders
00:37:58very interested
00:38:02well very obliging of all
00:38:03three parties concerned
00:38:04to provide Dave Richardson's
00:38:06100th one day
00:38:08international catch
00:38:10and the sixth man
00:38:11to achieve that
00:38:12Craig White is
00:38:13on his way
00:38:14for six
00:38:14and England's first
00:38:15wicket has gone
00:38:16with the score on 10
00:38:23Robin Smith
00:38:24the new batsman
00:38:24for England
00:38:25very good record
00:38:27one day cricket
00:38:28anything averaging
00:38:29just either side of 40
00:38:31is a very good performance
00:38:32that 167 of course
00:38:34was a memorable innings
00:38:35at Edgweston
00:38:36against Australia
00:38:37when he
00:38:39came in
00:38:39when the ball
00:38:40was doing plenty
00:38:40and had to graft
00:38:42a little bit
00:38:42to start with
00:38:43and ended up
00:38:43by
00:38:44as Alan Borda
00:38:45said
00:38:45just destroying
00:38:46the seamers
00:38:47now
00:38:47he's at the crease
00:38:48because
00:38:49finally the Villiers
00:38:50has got one to leave
00:38:51Craig White
00:38:53Craig White
00:38:54got his bat
00:38:54to leave his body
00:38:56yeah it's typical
00:38:57one day cricket
00:38:58the sort of cricket
00:38:58you get later
00:38:59in the innings
00:38:59normally
00:39:00and David Richardson
00:39:01the man who's just
00:39:02taken his
00:39:03hundredth catch
00:39:05in limited overs
00:39:06cricket
00:39:06for South Africa
00:39:12I've come in and said
00:39:13I've no problem
00:39:13in giving ALBW
00:39:14but my word
00:39:15I was a long way
00:39:16forward
00:39:19and gone
00:39:20Smith's gone
00:39:21plays on
00:39:24the ball coming back
00:39:25at Smith
00:39:26and he got a little
00:39:27inside edge
00:39:28onto his pad
00:39:28and the ball rolling
00:39:29back and disturbing
00:39:30the fails
00:39:30and England are in
00:39:31some trouble here
00:39:32to 11 for two
00:39:33up to five overs
00:39:36well all the best
00:39:37laid plans
00:39:38as they say
00:39:39can go amiss
00:39:42and Smith just
00:39:43looks as though
00:39:43he's a fraction
00:39:44late on this
00:39:45what he try and do
00:39:45as a batsman
00:39:46is leave the shot
00:39:48until the last moment
00:39:49if there is going
00:39:49to be movement
00:39:51and he hadn't
00:39:51got as far forward
00:39:52as we were suggesting
00:39:53he might do
00:39:54so the inside edge
00:39:56just enough
00:39:56to deflect the ball
00:39:57off the boot
00:39:59and onto the leg
00:40:00stump
00:40:00there's a
00:40:02bit of bad luck
00:40:03there for Robin Smith
00:40:07it's quite a thick edge
00:40:09it's almost
00:40:10it's an extraordinary
00:40:11one
00:40:11it's almost
00:40:12just turned the face
00:40:13on it
00:40:13but it's come off
00:40:14the pad
00:40:14off the boot
00:40:15onto the stump
00:40:16and the result
00:40:17is exactly the same
00:40:18as if he'd been
00:40:18clean bowling
00:40:1911 for two
00:40:27Graham Hick
00:40:27is the new batsman
00:40:29and another one
00:40:30with a very good record
00:40:31in one day cricket
00:40:32for England
00:40:33best there
00:40:33of 105 not out
00:40:35that average is impressive
00:40:37and that amount of runs
00:40:38is impressive
00:40:40in 53 matches
00:40:51and the match is very evenly balanced here
00:40:59sometimes in different pitches
00:41:01and low scoring games
00:41:02can be just as fascinating
00:41:04as high scoring games
00:41:06so there we go
00:41:06made 129
00:41:09only Brian McMillan
00:41:10made any impact
00:41:11on the England bowlers
00:41:14throw everything
00:41:15at England
00:41:15aren't they
00:41:16and they're going to really
00:41:17give it their all
00:41:18in the field
00:41:19yes
00:41:19well England have fiddled about
00:41:20with their batting order
00:41:21at the moment
00:41:21they've got Jack Russell
00:41:22down to come in next
00:41:23and Neil Fairbrother
00:41:24to come in at number 7
00:41:25and I'd make a quick change there
00:41:27get the experience
00:41:28of Neil Fairbrother
00:41:28who's been through
00:41:29these sort of situations
00:41:30a hundred times in his life
00:41:31and has the ability
00:41:32to be able to run the ball around
00:41:34on all sorts of services
00:41:35in a bit earlier
00:41:36than they have him planned for
00:41:37interesting to see
00:41:38how Adams goes
00:41:39this wouldn't be
00:41:39the sort of wicket
00:41:40he'd necessarily want to bowl on
00:41:41with it rolling along the ground
00:41:42but on the other hand
00:41:43he might be a bit of a handful
00:41:46very much so
00:41:46I would say that
00:41:48Adams will be
00:41:48as difficult to play here
00:41:49as he has been
00:41:50at any stage
00:41:51well he only played
00:41:52in the one one day game
00:41:53but he was handled
00:41:54very comfortably then
00:41:55he's going to bowl
00:41:56most likely to five fielders
00:41:57on the offside
00:41:58and bowl it off
00:41:59someone just outside
00:42:00spinning it away from the bat
00:42:01that'll be hard work
00:42:02if he bowls well
00:42:04OK Mark
00:42:05so
00:42:06a strike of luck there
00:42:07for England
00:42:08as it whistles past
00:42:09leg stump
00:42:09we're all set
00:42:10for a really tense
00:42:11and exciting evening's cricket
00:42:13here on Sky Sports
00:42:21Hicks back for two
00:42:22he'll have to get a move on
00:42:24but for once
00:42:25the throw is wide
00:42:30yes Bob
00:42:30I think it's very important
00:42:31for the English players
00:42:32to get on that front foot
00:42:33when we've seen them
00:42:35on the back foot
00:42:36there's been a
00:42:36been a problem
00:42:37the lateral movement
00:42:40and there
00:42:40John T. Rhodes
00:42:41bit of a wayward throw
00:42:42England not having things
00:42:43all their own way
00:42:44they need 130 to win
00:42:48life is not easy
00:42:49for any batsman
00:42:51out there
00:42:55Graham Hick
00:42:56obviously intent
00:42:57on remaining positive
00:43:00but Sean Pollock
00:43:02still want to leave
00:43:04Graham Hick a little bit
00:43:04and very close to that
00:43:06outside edge of his bat
00:43:15Pollock
00:43:15four overs
00:43:16for nine runs
00:43:21Pollock picked up
00:43:22the wicket of
00:43:23Robin Smith
00:43:24just before the dinner break
00:43:25there's Paul Adams
00:43:27sure we'll see him
00:43:28later on
00:43:30but it's going to be
00:43:31the seamers first
00:43:32that are the main
00:43:33problem for England
00:43:38Farney de Villiers
00:43:39from the Buffalo
00:43:40Park drive end
00:43:41just drifting onto
00:43:46leg stump
00:43:46it's going fine
00:43:48terrific stop
00:43:49by Sean Pollock
00:43:50what a brilliant
00:43:51all round figure
00:43:52that this young man is
00:43:56here's Paul
00:43:57the game
00:43:57that's a top save
00:43:58by Sean Pollock
00:43:59that ball went
00:44:01pretty quickly down
00:44:02to find
00:44:03final egg
00:44:05off the pad
00:44:07and Sean Pollock
00:44:08making tremendous
00:44:09ground
00:44:09stretching
00:44:10to the full
00:44:12he really is a
00:44:13tremendous all round
00:44:14cricketer Sean Pollock
00:44:15England continuing
00:44:17to tinker with
00:44:18their batting order
00:44:18Craig White
00:44:19open today
00:44:20with Michael Atherton
00:44:23Russell's due in next
00:44:26big nick there
00:44:27Atherton walks
00:44:29England have lost
00:44:30their third wicket
00:44:31they're 19 for 3
00:44:33and 130
00:44:34looks a long way
00:44:35away now
00:44:38poor success
00:44:39for de Villiers
00:44:40on his comeback
00:44:40to this South African
00:44:41team
00:44:42he looked a bit
00:44:43rusty in that
00:44:44opening spell
00:44:45at Durban
00:44:45but he's come back
00:44:46with a real bang
00:44:47and this is the wicket
00:44:48and this is the wicket
00:44:49South Africa
00:44:49always look for
00:44:50that man
00:44:51Michael Atherton
00:44:52lovely delivery
00:44:53from Farney de Villiers
00:44:54pitching on the right
00:44:57length
00:44:57the right line
00:44:58the outside edge
00:44:59through to Dave Richardson
00:45:01England 13 for 3
00:45:08Jack Russell comes in at number 5
00:45:11the order
00:45:12for England
00:45:14England struggling here
00:45:15they're 19 for 3
00:45:22and here's the end of Atherton
00:45:24de Villiers
00:45:25pitching the ball
00:45:26off stump
00:45:27it leaves him
00:45:28Atherton had to play
00:45:29the ball
00:45:29quite superb delivery
00:45:32and into the safe hands
00:45:33of Richardson
00:45:38he's funny to Villiers
00:45:39is on song
00:45:39and you can see
00:45:41that there
00:45:41beautiful picture
00:45:42just hitting the outside edge
00:45:44little deflection
00:45:45comfortable catch
00:45:46for Dave Richardson
00:45:52well we're quite used
00:45:53to the ball
00:45:54going past
00:45:54Jack Russell's bat
00:45:56sometimes
00:45:57he intends
00:45:58to leave it
00:45:59sometimes
00:46:00he's playing it
00:46:01that time
00:46:02he was definitely
00:46:03playing it
00:46:04the famous
00:46:05Jack Russell leave
00:46:07wasn't evident there
00:46:08the bad balls
00:46:12Orchard's thinking
00:46:13about that
00:46:17but Hick gets
00:46:18the benefit
00:46:18of the doubt
00:46:18this time
00:46:19he can't say
00:46:20that he's had
00:46:20the benefit
00:46:21of the doubt
00:46:21on all occasions
00:46:22during this tour
00:46:24this time
00:46:24he survives
00:46:27Tony de Villiers
00:46:28who again
00:46:29balls a little bit
00:46:30like Alan Donald
00:46:31wide of the stumps
00:46:32wide of the stumps
00:46:33fairly far forward
00:46:34on the surface
00:46:35of this pitch
00:46:43again Jack Russell
00:46:45a little bit offended
00:46:47that one outside
00:46:47the off stump
00:46:49a little bit wide
00:46:50and leaving him
00:46:52good line
00:46:53by Sean Pollock
00:46:54but that definitely
00:46:54did seem away from him
00:46:55good delivery
00:46:58very similar to bowling
00:47:00very similar bowling
00:47:02to that which
00:47:02dismissed Russell
00:47:03in the Cape Town
00:47:04Lance Klusner
00:47:05Richard Snell
00:47:07to bowl
00:47:07along with Brian
00:47:08McMillan
00:47:11terrific over from Pollock
00:47:18and Sean Pollock
00:47:20a guy in his ball
00:47:20absolutely magnificently
00:47:22Jack Russell
00:47:23had to play at that
00:47:24run
00:47:24that pitched
00:47:24middle and leg
00:47:26and went sharply
00:47:27away from him
00:47:27watch the swing
00:47:28watch the swing
00:47:29in the air
00:47:33again fine delivery
00:47:34from Farnie
00:47:35that one leaving
00:47:36Jack Russell
00:47:39certainly played a few
00:47:41played and missed a few
00:47:42times as Jack Russell
00:47:47really not too much
00:47:48fault of Jack Russell's
00:47:49the ball has really
00:47:50moved around a lot
00:48:02fantastic delivery
00:48:06I don't know whether
00:48:07Gower at his best
00:48:08would have been able
00:48:09to play that
00:48:13this is a magnificent
00:48:14delivery
00:48:15that ball pitches
00:48:15outside leg stump
00:48:17and goes via the
00:48:19off stump
00:48:20magnificent delivery
00:48:21even David Gower
00:48:23would have missed
00:48:23that run
00:48:33Lance Klusner
00:48:35that's a big night
00:48:36for him now
00:48:36because he
00:48:37made a duck
00:48:38when he batted
00:48:39six wickets
00:48:40in a good performance
00:48:42against Northern Transvaal
00:48:43that's a great shot
00:48:45from Hick
00:48:54Jack Callis in pursuit
00:48:56three runs to Hick
00:48:57that's taking the
00:48:57pressure off England
00:48:58slightly
00:49:00they've ticked into the
00:49:0130s
00:49:01they're 31 for three
00:49:10two well-timed strokes
00:49:12now from Graham Hick
00:49:13and the last four
00:49:13balls that he's faced
00:49:17Johnny Rhodes is
00:49:18having to go off
00:49:20having made a dive
00:49:21just look at this
00:49:22effort from Rhodes
00:49:22Hick has really
00:49:23timed that
00:49:24he hit very very
00:49:25hard
00:49:26and that could be
00:49:27a nasty blow
00:49:29he hit very much
00:49:30right on the end
00:49:31of the finger
00:49:34and you want to
00:49:35split the nail
00:49:37or lift the nail
00:49:38which is very
00:49:39very uncomfortable
00:49:39it's very sore for a few
00:49:40days
00:49:41after you've picked him
00:49:42I do not understand
00:49:48maybe it's to justify
00:49:50certain people's
00:49:52jobs at certain clubs
00:49:54I don't know
00:49:57well we have some more
00:49:59thoughts from Ian
00:49:59both of them on coaching
00:50:01a little later perhaps
00:50:03but England's 34 for three
00:50:0615 overs gone now
00:50:07so the official fielding
00:50:08restrictions can be lifted
00:50:11that's a good shot by
00:50:12here beautifully
00:50:13timed
00:50:16hollock and Kirsten
00:50:17after it
00:50:19and well run by Jack
00:50:20Russell
00:50:21and the first one
00:50:22very quickly
00:50:23which gave him the
00:50:24time
00:50:25probably found out
00:50:26he didn't even have
00:50:26a driving license
00:50:32unlimited effect
00:50:33of the Mexican wave
00:50:35a couple of cans
00:50:37and bits of rubbish
00:50:37being thrown around
00:50:38which doesn't please
00:50:39the spectators that
00:50:40have come to watch
00:50:41the cricket
00:50:41rather than
00:50:41make a nuisance
00:50:43of themselves
00:50:47there's another way
00:50:47to spend the evening
00:50:48as it's sat there
00:50:49and get a can
00:50:50around the back
00:50:51of the ear
00:50:52I don't really understand
00:50:53the logic of it
00:50:54so Richard Stowell
00:50:55to continue
00:50:58just a little bit
00:50:59of a delay
00:51:00you will have noticed
00:51:00there
00:51:00that's because
00:51:02the public address
00:51:03system has
00:51:04stated pretty clearly
00:51:05that there have been
00:51:05three injuries
00:51:07due to flying bottles
00:51:08and cans
00:51:09and they really
00:51:11would like the public
00:51:11to just
00:51:13control their
00:51:14exuberance a little
00:51:17and we're here
00:51:18at a match
00:51:18not a brawl
00:51:19but Graham Hick
00:51:21on the end of the finger
00:51:22didn't think much of it
00:51:26much in the way
00:51:27is Brian Mcmillan
00:51:28has just died
00:51:28and caused real trouble
00:51:29that's fantastic fielding
00:51:31again from South Africa
00:51:32Jack Russell
00:51:33rightly in the end
00:51:34sending Graham Hick back
00:51:36Hick I think
00:51:37assuming that the ball
00:51:38had either in part
00:51:39or completely gone past
00:51:40Brian Mcmillan
00:51:41but the big man
00:51:43was in good order here
00:51:44it's a great copy
00:51:45off the back foot
00:51:47Brian Mcmillan
00:51:48flying to his left
00:51:50gets up
00:51:52and direct hit
00:51:53and Graham Hick
00:51:54was helped
00:51:55by a foot or two
00:51:56I hope Nimbuson
00:51:57gives a film
00:51:57they have a very good
00:51:58fielding side
00:51:59I think
00:52:02what do you think
00:52:02of a better fielding
00:52:03side that we've
00:52:04ever seen
00:52:08you could say
00:52:09that the West Indies
00:52:10perhaps
00:52:11in the early 80s
00:52:13Clive Lloyd
00:52:13David Richards
00:52:16welcome national
00:52:17Desmond Haynes
00:52:18they were a pretty
00:52:19useful side
00:52:21more good work
00:52:29this time Sean Pollock
00:52:31three to Jack Russell
00:52:40and we will do
00:52:41contests on the hands
00:52:45and Graham Hick
00:52:46is enjoying the contest
00:52:47with comfortably
00:52:48a shot of the match
00:52:50only the second four
00:52:51of the innings
00:52:52only the 12th
00:52:52in the whole game
00:52:54and that's much
00:52:55the best of them
00:52:55Ian
00:52:57it's a lovely shot
00:52:58straight
00:52:59down the ground
00:53:00clean follow through
00:53:05doesn't matter
00:53:06back
00:53:07you hit it that
00:53:08straight
00:53:12lovely follow through
00:53:16medium pace
00:53:17or just above
00:53:18medium pace
00:53:24good shot
00:53:25good shot that is
00:53:25from Graham Hick
00:53:27brings the 50
00:53:28up for England
00:53:3050 for 3
00:53:31they are
00:53:34very easy
00:53:34to get out
00:53:35very quickly
00:53:41going to be a single
00:53:42there
00:53:43Adams will do the
00:53:44fielding
00:53:45and we haven't seen
00:53:45Adams had a bowl
00:53:46yet today
00:53:48in fact it's called
00:53:49a wide
00:53:50by Ampar Orchard
00:54:14that should be
00:54:16another wide
00:54:19David
00:54:20the last half an hour
00:54:21Ian Botham
00:54:22and
00:54:23Mark Nicholas
00:54:24were very critical
00:54:25about this
00:54:27pitch
00:54:29as Dave Richardson
00:54:30just looks at his
00:54:31finger
00:54:32he heard himself
00:54:33taking that one
00:54:37already had
00:54:38John T. Rhodes
00:54:39off with a split
00:54:40finger
00:54:40now there does
00:54:41seem to be a
00:54:41certain amount
00:54:42of discomfort
00:54:44for
00:54:46wicketkeeper
00:54:46Richardson
00:54:51just if that
00:54:52does get serious
00:54:54looks as though
00:54:54the
00:54:56keeper is about
00:54:57to go back
00:54:57to his mark
00:54:57but if that is
00:54:58too serious
00:54:59South Africa
00:54:59have a small
00:54:59problem
00:55:00their standing
00:55:01keeper is
00:55:01normally
00:55:01John T. Rhodes
00:55:03and he's
00:55:04already off the
00:55:05field
00:55:05it's amazing
00:55:06how simple
00:55:06it is
00:55:07for the man
00:55:08with the gloves
00:55:08just to
00:55:09take his eye
00:55:10off just a
00:55:11fraction of a
00:55:11second earlier
00:55:12the ball
00:55:12to go in
00:55:13wrong
00:55:17people
00:55:17underestimate
00:55:18the concentration
00:55:19needed
00:55:21by keepers
00:55:22to get it
00:55:22absolutely right
00:55:23every moment
00:55:24of the day
00:55:24and all it
00:55:25takes is just
00:55:26one simple
00:55:26little instant
00:55:26like that
00:55:27and they've
00:55:28got problems
00:55:31well they have
00:55:33got problems
00:55:33because the
00:55:34pads are off
00:55:35David Richardson
00:55:36has taken his
00:55:37pads off
00:55:38and it looks
00:55:39like that's
00:55:40Gary Kirsten
00:55:41putting them
00:55:41on so all of
00:55:42a sudden
00:55:42South Africa's
00:55:44day is
00:55:46getting into
00:55:48all sorts of
00:55:49bother
00:55:52it's always
00:55:53a problem
00:55:53when the
00:55:54ball goes
00:55:54in the
00:55:55blind spot
00:55:55behind the
00:55:56batsman
00:55:56also that
00:55:57ball
00:55:58started to
00:55:58move a
00:55:59little bit
00:55:59further down
00:55:59the leg
00:56:00side
00:56:00as Dave
00:56:01Richardson
00:56:01was on
00:56:01his way
00:56:04and all
00:56:05South Africa
00:56:05will be
00:56:05hoping of
00:56:06course that
00:56:06it's not a
00:56:07very serious
00:56:08blow
00:56:08whatever it
00:56:08is they
00:56:08hope it
00:56:09can be
00:56:09sorted out
00:56:10in a hurry
00:56:11and certainly
00:56:11in time
00:56:12for the
00:56:13World Cup
00:56:16so things
00:56:17actually
00:56:17started to
00:56:18swing England's
00:56:18way because
00:56:19with a
00:56:19substitute
00:56:20keeper
00:56:20with second
00:56:21string
00:56:22bowlers on
00:56:22now
00:56:22life should
00:56:23be comparatively
00:56:24easy
00:56:25nothing's ever
00:56:25going to be
00:56:26completely easy
00:56:26on a pitch
00:56:27like this
00:56:29but with
00:56:29Graham Hick
00:56:30now set
00:56:30with Jack
00:56:31Russell also
00:56:31set
00:56:32this is the
00:56:33perfect situation
00:56:34for England
00:56:34to try and
00:56:35make up the
00:56:35ground they've
00:56:36lost a bit
00:56:45great diving
00:56:46efforts
00:56:54Hick and
00:56:55Russell have
00:56:56scampered
00:56:56three
00:56:58but South
00:56:59African
00:56:59commitments
00:57:00total as
00:57:00usual
00:57:01Jack Callis
00:57:02is the man
00:57:03again he's
00:57:03been patrolling
00:57:05that area all
00:57:05night
00:57:07and he's at
00:57:08full tilt
00:57:08when he goes
00:57:09into the
00:57:09dive
00:57:09that's such
00:57:10a good
00:57:10effort
00:57:12and what
00:57:12they've all
00:57:12done well
00:57:13these fielders
00:57:14is make sure
00:57:14that when they
00:57:14get down to
00:57:15the ball
00:57:15by and large
00:57:16they've managed
00:57:16to get it
00:57:17back inside
00:57:18the field
00:57:18of play
00:57:20and we have
00:57:21union with
00:57:22the worms
00:57:23they're together
00:57:25England will
00:57:26hope that they
00:57:27will cross
00:57:27over
00:57:28and pull
00:57:29away
00:57:41a word
00:57:42from the
00:57:42South
00:57:42African
00:57:43dressing room
00:57:43John T.
00:57:44Rhodes is
00:57:44currently sporting
00:57:46four stitches
00:57:47in his ring
00:57:49finger from
00:57:50where he
00:57:50after he split
00:57:52it stopping
00:57:52a hip drive
00:57:54off the back
00:57:55foot
00:57:55muscle a long
00:57:57way forward
00:57:59and David
00:58:00Richardson
00:58:00the South
00:58:01African
00:58:02wicketkeeper
00:58:03is off to
00:58:04hospital for
00:58:05a precautionary
00:58:05x-ray
00:58:14two off the
00:58:15over
00:58:16we're halfway
00:58:16through this
00:58:17England innings
00:58:18now
00:58:18and they're
00:58:1964 for three
00:58:28well we're
00:58:28talking about
00:58:29the entertainment
00:58:29value
00:58:30the crowd
00:58:30are obviously
00:58:30doing their
00:58:31best to enjoy
00:58:31this whatever's
00:58:32happening
00:58:32and I'll have
00:58:33to give
00:58:34all due credit
00:58:35to the crowds
00:58:35all the way
00:58:36around this
00:58:36country
00:58:36they've come
00:58:37they've enjoyed
00:58:37whatever's
00:58:38happened
00:58:38they've had
00:58:38the bonus
00:58:39that South
00:58:40Africa of
00:58:40course
00:58:41have won
00:58:41the test
00:58:41series
00:58:41they've won
00:58:42the bulk
00:58:42of this
00:58:42one day
00:58:43series
00:58:44even more
00:58:45pleasure
00:58:46pull away
00:58:50three South
00:58:51Africans are
00:58:51after it
00:58:52but they're
00:58:52all going to
00:58:53be thwarted
00:58:54he's got a
00:58:55four
00:58:57it's only
00:58:58the third
00:58:58boundary
00:58:58four of
00:58:59the innings
00:59:01and England
00:59:01will be
00:59:02delighted
00:59:26well Paul Adams
00:59:27is going to
00:59:28have a bowl
00:59:28now David
00:59:33the second
00:59:33type that
00:59:34Russell has
00:59:34tried to get
00:59:35that sweep
00:59:35out and it's
00:59:36worked for him
00:59:36this time
00:59:37South Africa
00:59:38when they
00:59:39batted against
00:59:39Richard Illingworth
00:59:40got the sweep
00:59:41out quite a lot
00:59:41of the time
00:59:42and that's the
00:59:4350 partnership
00:59:50yes you've got to
00:59:50be absolutely
00:59:51certain what
00:59:52you're doing
00:59:52with the
00:59:53sweep
00:59:53you're going to
00:59:53play it
00:59:54against
00:59:54someone like
00:59:54Paul Adams
00:59:55hustle it
00:59:56through now
00:59:56and again
00:59:56you've got to
00:59:57make sure you
00:59:57get the shot
00:59:57right
00:59:58and straight
00:59:59the reason
01:00:00the sweep
01:00:00shot coming
01:00:01in so much
01:00:02today is
01:00:02simply that
01:00:03the batsman
01:00:03I don't think
01:00:03have any
01:00:04confidence
01:00:05driving
01:00:07in orthodox
01:00:07fashion
01:00:08because of
01:00:08that bounce
01:00:09for 18
01:00:10in two
01:00:10overs
01:00:12he'll be
01:00:12itching to
01:00:13do the
01:00:13same
01:00:16it's got
01:00:16that away
01:00:17very fine
01:00:17it's going
01:00:18to go
01:00:19quickly
01:00:19and it's
01:00:20going to
01:00:20go away
01:00:20for four
01:00:22so that's
01:00:23England into
01:00:23the 70s
01:00:30end of Adams
01:00:31is over
01:00:32his first
01:00:33over has
01:00:33gone for
01:00:34five
01:00:36and England
01:00:36now
01:00:37all sorts
01:00:40of debate
01:00:40over this
01:00:41one
01:00:41it looks
01:00:41as if
01:00:42Graham
01:00:42might have
01:00:42been stumped
01:00:43but I
01:00:43suspect
01:00:43we'll find
01:00:44that he's
01:00:44been given
01:00:45out
01:00:45caught at
01:00:45the wicket
01:00:46by Cyril
01:00:47Mitchley
01:00:47the umpire
01:00:48Paul Adams
01:00:49is in
01:00:50so that
01:00:51is
01:00:52a brilliant
01:00:53bit of
01:00:53bowling
01:00:53but moreover
01:00:54it is
01:00:55brilliant
01:00:55work
01:00:56by the
01:00:56substitute
01:00:57wicketkeeper
01:01:06Simon
01:01:06Gary
01:01:07Kirsten's
01:01:07face
01:01:07there
01:01:1075
01:01:10for four
01:01:11now
01:01:11England
01:01:14so
01:01:14Graham
01:01:15Thorpe
01:01:15takes his
01:01:16guard
01:01:16he's the
01:01:17leading
01:01:17run
01:01:17scorer
01:01:18from both
01:01:18sides
01:01:19in this
01:01:19series
01:01:19averaging
01:01:20just over
01:01:2070
01:01:20it's a
01:01:22very
01:01:22very good
01:01:22performance
01:01:24and he's
01:01:25here
01:01:25because of
01:01:26a confusing
01:01:27dismissal
01:01:27and a good
01:01:28bit of
01:01:29bowling
01:01:29from young
01:01:29Paul Adams
01:01:32it's a
01:01:32very big
01:01:33wicket for
01:01:33South Africa
01:01:34Graham
01:01:34Hickett
01:01:34played
01:01:35superbly
01:01:37keeper
01:01:38certainly
01:01:38thought he
01:01:39got a
01:01:39nick
01:01:39on it
01:01:44we should
01:01:44have another
01:01:45look at
01:01:45that
01:01:45mark
01:01:47it's so
01:01:48difficult
01:01:48for us
01:01:48to tell
01:01:49I think
01:01:49Graham
01:01:49Hick
01:01:50didn't
01:01:50for a
01:01:50minute
01:01:50think
01:01:51he'd
01:01:51hit it
01:01:55oh
01:01:56Bowden
01:01:59and
01:01:59Graham
01:02:00Shaw
01:02:00for
01:02:00another
01:02:01well
01:02:02sort of
01:02:02bizarre
01:02:03dismissal
01:02:04and this
01:02:05game
01:02:05has
01:02:05changed
01:02:05England
01:02:06to 76
01:02:06for 5
01:02:07as Paul
01:02:08Adams
01:02:08has taken
01:02:09two wickets
01:02:10in three
01:02:10deliveries
01:02:14and if there
01:02:15was any
01:02:15doubt as to
01:02:16whether Paul
01:02:16Adams was
01:02:16going to
01:02:17make the
01:02:1714th
01:02:18for South
01:02:18Africa
01:02:18to go to
01:02:19India
01:02:20for the
01:02:20World Cup
01:02:20my
01:02:21goodness
01:02:21me
01:02:21he's
01:02:22putting
01:02:22it
01:02:22to
01:02:23rest
01:02:24what a
01:02:25sensational
01:02:25comeback
01:02:25by young
01:02:26Paul Adams
01:02:27Graham
01:02:28Thorpe
01:02:28trying to
01:02:29get his
01:02:29pad in
01:02:29the way
01:02:30missing the
01:02:31front pad
01:02:32England's
01:02:3376 for
01:02:345
01:02:39Neil
01:02:40Fairbrother
01:02:40comes to the
01:02:41crease
01:02:41because Paul
01:02:42Adams
01:02:42has caused
01:02:43some real
01:02:43chaos
01:02:44in the
01:02:45English
01:02:45ranks
01:02:48first
01:02:48first
01:02:51one
01:02:52from Paul
01:02:53Adams
01:02:57we are not
01:02:58quite sure
01:02:58whether he
01:02:58edged it
01:02:59there
01:02:59but there
01:03:00is certainly
01:03:00no doubt
01:03:00about this
01:03:01one
01:03:02Graham Thorpe
01:03:03looking to get
01:03:03his left
01:03:04pad in the
01:03:04way of the
01:03:04ball
01:03:05the ball
01:03:05missing the
01:03:05left pad
01:03:06between his
01:03:07legs
01:03:07hitting the
01:03:08off stump
01:03:08there's no
01:03:09doubt
01:03:09about that
01:03:13that isn't
01:03:14so far
01:03:15away
01:03:15either
01:03:16South Africa
01:03:17have
01:03:17probably
01:03:18applied
01:03:18a bit
01:03:18of pressure
01:03:20and you
01:03:21see
01:03:21Cronia
01:03:22is coming
01:03:22to silly
01:03:22point
01:03:23on the
01:03:23offside
01:03:23some
01:03:25tremendous
01:03:25seamen
01:03:26pace
01:03:27bowlers
01:03:29but none
01:03:30of them
01:03:30swing the
01:03:31ball
01:03:31and that's
01:03:32what
01:03:32Barney
01:03:32De Villiers
01:03:32can do
01:03:35oh they've
01:03:36got to hurry
01:03:36here
01:03:36really
01:03:37that's a
01:03:37very poor
01:03:38run
01:03:40dear dear
01:03:41dear
01:03:41and there
01:03:42is real
01:03:42trouble
01:03:42for England
01:03:43now
01:03:43they're reduced
01:03:44to 78
01:03:44to 6
01:03:45when just
01:03:4610 minutes
01:03:47ago
01:03:47they seem
01:03:47to be
01:03:48in a very
01:03:49commanding
01:03:49position
01:03:50in this
01:03:50game
01:03:50the pressure
01:03:52is building
01:03:52much as it
01:03:53did in Cape
01:03:53Town
01:03:54in the first
01:03:55of these
01:03:55one day
01:03:55internationals
01:03:5610 days
01:03:57ago
01:03:58and
01:04:00Jack Russell
01:04:00won't be
01:04:01pleased with
01:04:01this
01:04:05well I don't
01:04:05know whose
01:04:06call that
01:04:06was but
01:04:06it's a
01:04:07shocking run
01:04:07miles out
01:04:09third umpire
01:04:11not even
01:04:11called in
01:04:12to play
01:04:22well
01:04:24so very quiet
01:04:25Jack Russell
01:04:26going up those
01:04:26stairs and
01:04:27pretty nervous
01:04:29Dominic Court
01:04:30going to be
01:04:31crease
01:04:33now that's
01:04:33definitely Jack
01:04:34Russell's call
01:04:35so we can
01:04:35assume that
01:04:36he's the one
01:04:36that's made
01:04:37the error
01:04:39enough of a
01:04:39hesitation there
01:04:40in Jack Russell
01:04:41to suggest that
01:04:43there might have
01:04:44been a bit of
01:04:44the well-known
01:04:45yes-no stuff
01:04:47that goes on
01:04:47between
01:04:48batsmen
01:04:49can't work out
01:04:50can't work out
01:04:50whether to
01:04:50steal a run
01:04:51or not
01:04:52Dominic
01:04:53Court hasn't
01:04:53got a career
01:04:54average in
01:04:54one-day
01:04:55cricket that's
01:04:55going to
01:04:55inspire us
01:04:58that was
01:04:58there
01:05:01a little bit
01:05:03more air
01:05:04and fair
01:05:05brother diving
01:05:06driving confounded
01:05:07by both the
01:05:09flight and the
01:05:09spin
01:05:13lovely flight
01:05:14to delivery
01:05:14from Paul
01:05:15Adams
01:05:17that was
01:05:18the problem
01:05:18area we knew
01:05:19would happen
01:05:19when Dave
01:05:20Richardson went
01:05:21off
01:05:21Gary Kirsten
01:05:22had no idea
01:05:22about that
01:05:23one
01:05:24one by
01:05:24but we're
01:05:25getting some
01:05:25in the nets
01:05:26a lot
01:05:27better idea
01:05:28than most
01:05:30oh this is
01:05:31terrific
01:05:31bowling
01:05:34you've seen
01:05:35the marvellous
01:05:35impact Mike
01:05:36Shane Ward
01:05:36has had
01:05:37an Australian
01:05:37cricket
01:05:37for both
01:05:38and that
01:05:38this boy
01:05:40he's had a
01:05:40magnificent
01:05:41impact on
01:05:41South African
01:05:42cricket
01:05:43very unorthodox
01:05:45certainly
01:05:46in the South
01:05:47African scene
01:05:48he's had
01:05:49fantastic
01:05:50support from
01:05:51the public
01:05:52lovely
01:05:52visible
01:05:56oh well
01:05:57bowled
01:05:59super bowling
01:06:00from Paul
01:06:00Adams
01:06:01it was a
01:06:02change of
01:06:02pace
01:06:04just whipped
01:06:05it through
01:06:05more quickly
01:06:06and Dominic
01:06:06Court was
01:06:07never there
01:06:07he was late
01:06:07on the shot
01:06:10ball was dead
01:06:11straight
01:06:11that's great
01:06:12bowling
01:06:13well Dominic
01:06:14has not read
01:06:15this at all
01:06:16it's quicker
01:06:18and he is so
01:06:19late on it
01:06:21that it's
01:06:22through
01:06:23and that
01:06:24leaves England
01:06:24now struggling
01:06:25on 88 for
01:06:267
01:06:28after 35
01:06:29after 35
01:06:30South Africa
01:06:30when
01:06:3199
01:06:31for
01:06:328
01:06:32wickets
01:06:34Richard
01:06:35Dillingworth
01:06:35comes to the
01:06:36crease with
01:06:36England
01:06:3688 for
01:06:387
01:06:38now he's a man
01:06:39with a cool head
01:06:42a man who you wouldn't expect to panic even in the circumstances
01:06:47Dominic
01:06:47Dominic Court on the other hand was horribly late on this
01:06:50there was a little bit of a time to win but the pace was the key to this mission
01:07:00the pace deceives him
01:07:02accelerates off the wicket and it is through him and Dominic Court just hasn't picked it
01:07:07do you do sense there's a little bit of panic creeps in with England late middle order and these
01:07:13now we've had some news of South Africa's main riggy but Gary Kirsten doing the job of standing
01:07:18David Richardson has indeed fractured a finger that was the fear
01:07:22it's fractured the index finger that's decided before the play started
01:07:29that's got away fine that's handy runs for England
01:07:32it's going to go all the way
01:07:35Paul Adams this time trying that quicker ball again but not directing it as well
01:07:41it would have been a wide I think anyway
01:07:43Neil Fairbrother getting enough bats on it
01:07:46getting it fine
01:07:49there's nothing the fielders can do about that
01:07:54in the Castle Cup
01:07:55Adrian Caper is captain of Borland
01:08:01and again the run out might be on
01:08:04good work and this out
01:08:07Gary Kirsten immaculate behind the stumps it was a good throw again
01:08:11and a repeat situation of the Russell run out
01:08:15it's crass running by England
01:08:21South Africa have always been sharp in the field throughout this season
01:08:26they tend to snap up these chances
01:08:31quite amazing
01:08:34I really don't understand what the percentage was in taking that single
01:08:40and England have had two run outs in an identical situation
01:08:48we really don't need it
01:08:51and now England are struggling on 95 for 8
01:09:00Darren Gough
01:09:01one of England's last hopes now
01:09:03coming in at number 10
01:09:07and England have not helped themselves tonight
01:09:09one little bridge
01:09:11two very very stupid run outs
01:09:17on both occasions
01:09:18Neil Fairbrother was the striker
01:09:20on both occasions the ball went round the corner
01:09:22to Andrew Hudson
01:09:24who is a very fine fielder
01:09:26on both occasions
01:09:28the batsman
01:09:29firstly Jack Russell
01:09:30then now
01:09:31rather now
01:09:32Richard Illingworth
01:09:36herring down the pitch
01:09:37without any care or attention
01:09:40pressure definitely on
01:09:41here we are again
01:09:42let's have another look at it
01:09:43almost identically to the first one
01:09:45fairbrother looking
01:09:48looking for confirmation
01:09:49from Richard Illingworth
01:09:50but unless you go straight away for those
01:09:53then you're always going to be under pressure
01:09:54if the throw is anything like accurate
01:09:56and credit to Andrew Hudson
01:09:58Gary Kirsten
01:09:59only had to stick the gloves in the right place
01:10:01make sure he took it
01:10:03and
01:10:04it was such a good thrower
01:10:05that he didn't have to move the gloves
01:10:06an inch or so
01:10:07to get the bells off
01:10:10I'm sure the correct response there
01:10:12and from
01:10:12Illingworth
01:10:13is simply just to say
01:10:14no hang on
01:10:14wait there
01:10:15not this time
01:10:18you'll have to eat my words
01:10:20because I said to it
01:10:20that he would
01:10:21not panic in this situation
01:10:23and he should have stood there
01:10:24and just simply said no
01:10:26and I'm
01:10:27as gobsmacked as everyone else is
01:10:29I just don't understand
01:10:34big shout
01:10:36both Richard Snell
01:10:37and Gary Kirsten
01:10:38have still stood there appealing
01:10:43that's one trick
01:10:44Gary Kirsten didn't need to learn
01:10:47Darren Goff just getting outside the line there
01:10:49it's a good delivery
01:10:50and it's
01:10:52a chiseled shout
01:10:54but the right decision has been made
01:11:10that could scoot away for four hours
01:11:13desperate efforts
01:11:14and for once
01:11:16the dive and the stop
01:11:17taking the ball over the bound
01:11:19instead of keeping it inside the bound
01:11:20it was a great effort
01:11:26and four runs
01:11:27it's been signalled as runs
01:11:28to Darren Goff
01:11:30brings up
01:11:30the 100 for England
01:11:32they're exactly
01:11:32100
01:11:33for eight
01:11:40he's been disguising a few more of his deliveries
01:11:43rather than exposing him to the World Cup
01:11:46big shout
01:11:47this time he's got in
01:11:49straight on the boost
01:11:50of Darren Goff
01:11:51that's a good delivery
01:11:52from Richard Snell
01:12:07Snell
01:12:07Snell getting that to move in
01:12:11and that's very very straight
01:12:18and it's certainly not going to bounce over the top
01:12:26well Darren Goff
01:12:27quite a good stride forward
01:12:35it was very much
01:12:36the pads aimed at the ball
01:12:39and the bats was
01:12:42alongside it
01:12:43but not really aimed
01:12:43at the ball
01:12:45now Neil Fairbrother
01:12:47with his Lancashire colleague
01:12:48Peter Martin
01:12:50this is literally the last chance
01:12:54LVW is telling that he was a long way down the wicket
01:12:57and yeah it's pretty straight
01:12:59but you can probably feel that he may have two or three
01:13:02as good as that
01:13:08Martin goes for the sweep
01:13:10he's got it away
01:13:11fine
01:13:17Sean Pollock does the fielding
01:13:19and
01:13:21umpire Mitchley
01:13:22signalling wides
01:13:24so not only two runs for England
01:13:26but an extra ball
01:13:30very difficult for the substitute wicketkeeper Gary Kirsten
01:13:34to attempt to take stuff like that
01:13:35when he's being completely obscured by Peter Martin
01:13:40that's gone fine
01:13:41this time it's off the edge
01:13:45it's gone all the way
01:13:47valuable four runs for England
01:13:51they're still in there fighting
01:13:54112 now for nine
01:13:58Peter Martin finding the edge of the bat
01:14:00gliding it down to the vacant slip area
01:14:03Vincent Kurnier had been there an over or two before
01:14:06a lot of pace on that ball
01:14:09the outfield is slow
01:14:10that went all the way
01:14:12valuable runs for England
01:14:13they're still in there fighting
01:14:14the number 11 Martin
01:14:19big shout
01:14:20not out
01:14:25Richard Snell getting some in-swing here
01:14:30very close to the slumps
01:14:32some late in-swing
01:14:35a little bit low
01:14:42he's bowled in
01:14:43South Africa have won again
01:14:45fantastic victory
01:14:48they've beaten England by 14 runs
01:14:51and they now go 5-1 up in this seven match series
01:14:55they've come back from the dead today
01:14:59home side were bowled out for 129
01:15:02England required just 130 for victory
01:15:04but even that proved too much for them
01:15:08Fairbrother the last man to go
01:15:10bowled by Richard Snell
01:15:12and South Africa have won by 14 runs
01:15:18well this is good bowling by Richard Snell
01:15:20getting the ball to drift in to Neil Fairbrother
01:15:23and certainly that's an amazing victory for South Africa
01:15:25129 all out
01:15:28at that stage they were dead
01:15:32with a tremendous performance in the field
01:15:33and by the bowlers
01:15:39to a certain extent
01:15:41England
01:15:41their own undoing
01:15:42a couple of needless run-outs
01:15:44as the pressure bolt
01:15:46and only Graham Hick
01:15:48put any sort of substantial innings together
01:15:50he made 39
01:15:51before being a judge
01:15:52called behind off Paul Adams
01:15:54who came back with a real bang
01:15:56for South Africa today
01:15:57and has surely
01:15:58cemented his place
01:16:00in their 14
01:16:001.30 to win it
01:16:02but they couldn't do it
01:16:03that's the story
01:16:04115 all out
01:16:06top scorer Hick 39
01:16:08and this is how England's 10 perished
01:16:13Michael how disappointing a performance was that by England?
01:16:16I was disappointed not to score 129
01:16:19that we needed for victory
01:16:20it was a low scoring game probably
01:16:22due to the fact that the wicket was not a particularly good one
01:16:25not a very easy wicket to score runs on
01:16:27and obviously that was why it was a low scoring game
01:16:29but I mean should you have scored 1.30 to win it?
01:16:32well obviously you should score 130 to win it
01:16:34I think the wicket changed a little bit
01:16:35it started really for us
01:16:37it was a lot of grass
01:16:38but we felt that the ball kind of reverse swung for us
01:16:41and then as the night drew in
01:16:43the grass got very juicy
01:16:45the lads in the net said the ball went all over the shop
01:16:47and I'm sure it seemed far more the second half of the game
01:16:49than the first half of the game
01:16:50the disappointing thing is though
01:16:52that England got themselves into a really good position
01:16:54at what 75 for 3
01:16:56there was then a dodgy decision
01:16:57which got rid of Graham Hick
01:16:58but once again the lower order couldn't finish off a job
01:17:00which perhaps they should have done
01:17:02the lower order's been struggling to get some runs
01:17:04and that's disappointing
01:17:05it's something we'll have to work on in the World Cup
01:17:07obviously it was disappointing Hick
01:17:08he was given out
01:17:09because at that stage we were looking very much favourite
01:17:11well Hansi Cronje you've done it again
01:17:13how have you done
01:17:14how have you got out of jail on this occasion
01:17:16don't know really
01:17:19we got 129
01:17:20we never really thought it was going to be enough
01:17:22we thought 150, 160 would have been reasonable
01:17:25because we knew the wicket wasn't great
01:17:26but then fortunately the 20 minutes before 6 o'clock
01:17:30proved to be vital
01:17:31because we got two wickets
01:17:32and they were really cued
