00:00It's actually quite bleak out in the middle here. It's almost trying to rain again, so we'd better get on with this and get through it.
00:06No groundsman likes a lot of bad weather just prior, and they've done wonderfully well here.
00:11It's still a pretty good-looking pitch. Just how much it will have sweated under the covers, we don't quite know yet.
00:16I'm on a length at around about the Kelvin Grove end, a good amount of grass cover here, brown grass rolled into the pitch.
00:23It's nice and firm. It should play pretty well. As I say, because of the moisture content that could be underneath there, under the covers,
00:32it might well seem around just a little bit early on, or maybe even all evening.
00:37But it is a bit of a pitch of two ends. If we look at an overall view of the pitch, we can see that the area that I've just been talking about,
00:46with the good grass cover, is very plain to see early on in that little bit of footage.
00:51But as we get to the other end of the pitch, down at the Weinberg end, it's a slightly different story.
00:58We've got a situation whereby it's just a little bit bearer.
01:03We'll have a look at it, the same sort of length, distance from the stumps, and you can see there are some little hairline cracks in here,
01:09and not quite as much grass cover, albeit that what grass was there, I don't think is going to grip the ball that much.
01:17So, where do we end up with that? Which way is a captain going to go?
01:21I believe that some captains think that the Duckworth-Lewis system suits batting first or batting second.
01:28The captain who wins the toss if he wants to bowl first has got to worry about a wet ball, that's for sure.
01:33And he knows he's then batting second. How does he look at the Duckworth-Lewis situation?
01:38So, really, I think it's a good toss to lose, maybe, so you don't have to make all those decisions.
01:43It'll be a really interesting scenario, this, as to what they do when they win the toss, whoever it may be.
01:50Out here in the middle, I'm joined by the two captains and Cammy Smith, the ICC match referee.
01:55Special toss to today because Ricky Ponte gets to keep the coin. Polly?
02:00Yeah, I'm going to have a bowl.
02:10Just a little hesitant there, Ricky, you're going to have a bowl?
02:13Yeah, who really knows what to do in these sort of conditions.
02:15You know, the outfit's a little bit wet, so the ball's going to get wet.
02:18The wicket looks like it might do a little bit this morning, so we'll have a bowl and see how we go.
02:21Changes to the side that played in Port Elizabeth?
02:23We've got a few changes today. I can't remember what they are to tell the truth, but Andy Bickle's coming back in for a game.
02:31And Matty Hayden and Darren Lehman are out.
02:34Okay, what about the series so far? 5-0 up, you've enjoyed a good stint as captain.
02:40This must be a good preparation for the World Cup next year.
02:43Oh, for sure, yeah. We've played some pretty good cricket while we've been here,
02:45and we've been around and checked out all the conditions and the grounds that we're going to be playing on the World Cup.
02:49So that's good preparation for us, and it's nice to know that we've won on the grounds that we're going to be playing on the World Cup as well.
02:54Quick note on the conditions of South African stadia around the country. You've enjoyed it?
02:59Oh, it's been fantastic, yeah. The test matches went really well for us, and the one days have been great.
03:03The whole tour's run really well, and the wickets on the grounds that we've played on since we've been here have been excellent.
03:08Thank you very much. Enjoy it.
03:10Have a lot, man.
03:12And for your hard luck with the toss, you must be disappointed.
03:15Yeah, I don't know, but at night sometimes in Cape Town it goes around a bit more than it does during the day,
03:19but there will be a bit of moisture, obviously, with the overhead conditions, so it might be a bit seamer-friendly,
03:24but sometimes with the Duckworth Lewis, which might come into play, it's not bad to bat first.
03:29Yeah, I think it's not such a bad idea.
03:31Just a question, 5-0 down in the series, what's your approach going to be?
03:35Yeah, we've got nothing to lose, obviously, but we won't end on a winning note, and it's five months from now until the next game,
03:43so it'll be nice to remember the last game of the season on a high note.
03:46Cape Town's also a great place to play, and there's always good spectators come in and watch us and give us a lot of support,
03:52so it'll be nice to win for them.
03:54Yeah, 5-0 down, and still you've had tremendous support out at every game so far.
03:58You must have a word for the spectators and the supporters out there?
04:01Yeah, they've been brilliant, you know, we really do appreciate it, and the supporters have stuck with us through thick and thin,
04:06and it has been a bit of a lean period with regards to victory, so it's nice for them, and I'd just like to thank them for sticking by us.
04:13Today, we've got just the two changes to our side.
04:16Nante Hayward comes in place from McCarrantini, and Boutitipunar in place of John Kent.
04:20Thanks, Sean, enjoy the contest.
04:21OK, thanks.
04:22Well, eventually, welcome to Newlands, and here's a look at the Australian side that is playing today.
04:26Jimmy Maher is going to be playing, he's in for Matthew Hayden.
04:29Brett Lee, you can see third from the bottom, is in for Jason Gillespie,
04:32and also Andy Bickle, second from the bottom, is in for Darren Lehman.
04:36So three changes there for the Australian side, still a very formidable line-up.
04:40Adam Gilchrist gets another run, he'll be very, very weary by now this late in the tour,
04:45and so they have to go, well, they've made two changes.
04:46Butitipunar listed to come in at number four.
04:48He's replacing John Kent, and right at the bottom, Nante Hayward is in the line-up, replacing McCarrantini,
04:54which perhaps is a little bit of a surprise, because he's had an outstanding summer.
04:57Also probably a little bit weary, so having a bit of a breather in this, the seventh and final one-dayer.
05:03At Newlands, it is a rain-affected game, it's 43 overs per side.
05:07And there's going to be 12 overs for the fielding restrictions at the start of play.
05:16And Dave Orchard is standing in his 79th one-dayer international,
05:19and he's one of those umpires that is on the elite panel.
05:21Kyle Hurter is his partner.
05:24He's standing in just his second one-dayer international.
05:26So conditions here are still a little bit gloomy.
05:28We have had quite a bit of time just sitting around with the covers on,
05:31and the grand staff, I can tell you, are not too far away from the covers at the moment.
05:34But we're underweight, Ricky Pointing has won the toss, and decided to have a bowl.
05:39Conditions obviously will suit the bowling side a little bit,
05:42because there will be some dampness in the track.
05:4421 years of age as Graeme Smith, and he's been one of the South African finds of the season, that's for sure.
05:48Just playing in his fourth game, averaging 57 in the one-day game so far,
05:51and has showed some real courage out in the middle.
05:54Provides a very good presence at the crease.
05:56Highest score of 84 in his previous game against Australia at Fort Elizabeth,
05:59and then got 46 also in Durban not so long ago as well.
06:04But he looks like he's going to be something special for the future.
06:07Forced left-hand opening batsman, and Glenn McGrath is going to be bowling the first ball.
06:1132 years of age, runs per over, under four is outstanding.
06:15And 233 wickets at an average of 23.15.
06:18It's good going as well. Best performance of five for 14 against the West Indies.
06:22And we're just about to set a thumbs up from Glenn McGrath.
06:25Dave Orchard has said play. Let's get underway.
06:28Something we didn't think would happen for some time yet, but here we go.
06:34Leg by.
06:37Two kickoff proceedings.
06:41Through the covers, that's a good shot.
06:42It's a fairly short boundary on that side, and that's going to go for four.
06:45That's confident. That's a very good start.
06:48Full shot. It's got an over the top of mid-iron.
06:53It wasn't all that short. It's just plugged a little bit.
06:58There's an indication of how wet the outfield is.
07:01And two more runs to Herschel Gibbs.
07:04Two Herschel Gibbs.
07:05Two Herschel Gibbs.
07:10McGraw. To Herschel Gibbs. He's not out on seven.
07:16Pull shot again. He's got that away beautifully, has Herschel Gibbs.
07:18McGrath to Herschel Gibbs he's not out on seven
07:24full shot again he's got that away beautifully has Herschel Gibbs it's probably going to plug
07:30yes it does and it won't go all the way towards the road stops dead filters come to gather the
07:36throw the relay throw and in the end Gilchrist tidies up a bit of rain as well here at Newlands
07:44it's a it's like a pool scoop isn't it it's not the full-on cross batted pool he's played it
07:51almost straightened over there effective it's worked well just behind square the members position just in
08:00front of square so two more runs to Gibbs and also a little sunshine so it's certainly a bit confused
08:07the weather at the moment yes swirly and changeable but Gibbs showing lots of commitment it's not a
08:16pretty stroke definitely showing that he wanting to get on with it I suppose he can be forgiven
08:25he's been watching the Australians belt along at 7 8 9 10 11 and over he figures that 5 comma 1 is
08:31too slow for this game against the Australians sensible headwear a couple of the umpires could
08:37do with that right now because they're having a chat they've watched it on the right Carl Hurt on
08:43the left and the signal to the ground staff so that's disappointing signal the ground staff to
08:48bring the covers up so last ball of Glen McGrath over that's nicely driven that should go for four even on a
09:01heavy outfield it's well timed it's a good over for South Africa resuming again five overs gone 28 for no
09:08loss that's well track that should go all the way and it does there was a magnificent shot just had
09:26enough width here just watch him come down and just full face of the art play on the arms and a
09:32wonderful effort to stop it but not good enough wonderful timing it hard down the ground I don't
09:40think it'll go to fall pretty damp out there that is a powerful shot from Gibbs that's to the long
09:50boundary again it's pulling up pretty quickly but he hit it with a lot of power good slide and stop
10:02it's nicely played by Graham Smith pick up the tube well how easy it is to get injured look at that
10:17please replace divot soup I don't see too many guys with a sandbag there you see again I mean there's
10:24the divot there's the Brett Lee smile there's the enjoyment lovely to watch this class side still
10:31loving it still finding enjoyment in a bit of humor and a lovely smile slashed away it'll be for
10:48that's the 50 partnership I'm sure the South Africans will be happier there
10:56these two have done well it's why he goes for it gets the outside edge
11:01this probably would have been wide of third slip because they've moved that out let's have a look
11:05at it yeah it could have been wide of third slip
11:16it's well bowled lovely delivery it's it really is a wonderful experience to sit here and watch this
11:25this wonderful fast bowler thinking his way through there it is he does does it well to keep out he
11:31knows Gibbs plays a lot with the bottom hand so hoping to get that angle of the back not coming through
11:37straight and there you see it well played by Gibbs
11:40it keeps on the pool draw with a smile and in the over 54 for no loss
11:54outside edge and dropped
11:58well well
12:00must be said it was flying though it was flying it's a really good piece of bowling because he had to bowl in that
12:07zone grass was going for that he's hit a few good ones an enormous circumstances ponding will be
12:12disappointed with that i even thought i saw a little bit of swing
12:20yeah to his left hand not easy the font is a good fielder there he's a superb fielder
12:26it's hit away by Gibbs through the gap one go for four though
12:41the crowd having a bit of sparring out there and saying well stop but just what we are talking about
12:46a bit of pressure starting to build up Gibbs needs to keep the momentum going he knows that
12:52so he goes for the shot and lucky enough to have it wide and lucky enough not to hit it in the air
12:58but that's just the build up of strategy during this period
13:02not easy to feel well that's watson he's got skates on it's the second time
13:07gives us to turn he's run out he couldn't turn just difficult to turn on that pitch
13:22it's a little bit damp and bickle does the job but he's more than happy
13:26he is delighted as you can see the conditions just put different slants on this
13:34looking for it and then you see graham smith then sending him back struggling to actually turn
13:41and an excellent throw and gives nowhere to be seen
13:47well usher Gibbs he tried hard to increase that run rate
13:50he's out for 27 just 28 deliveries mind you 13 scoring shots 63 for one
14:07well that's a good shot that is a very very good shot it wasn't a half body the chase is on
14:11andy bickle picks up nice and then puts the brakes on and good running also three runs
14:24well nicky bier has been in pretty good nick since he's been in this side and played a good knock
14:30just a couple of days ago in fort elizabeth clean striker of the ball
14:34yeah it's not easy for the big bowlers with a little bit of moisture around
14:41that one was hit very very sweetly through the covers
14:46good running
14:46he's had a go at that and he said that very very well as nicky bier smacked it away four runs
14:56well there's just three men on the lake side
15:07and nicky bier a little bit too short pulls it with venom
15:11he's really in good form is nicky bier currently on 38
15:24inside edge looking to force in the leg side he'll take those bonus runs with graham smith
15:30the australians won't be too happy but smith won't mind
15:32oh dear in between the bat and the body
15:49gone over the top that's a very very good shot that's gone for six
15:53that's a glorious straight from nicky bier exactly where he wanted right in the slot
15:57and he gave her the treatment 16 overs gone 94 for one
16:06well he's been waiting for that
16:10that's pulled away very powerfully that is a wonderful shot from graham smith
16:16my word he hit that with a lot of power
16:19now patty will be pleased with that shot because he's been battling to get it through for it
16:24that short ball and here he hit it beautifully and he just placed it so well
16:32he's crashed that again through extra cover and again he gave himself room
16:37that was a superb shot gave himself some room and the first time that ball has raced through extra
16:43cover for four it's normally held up for two or three
16:46that's wiped away middle of the bat with so much power unbelievable
17:00well graham smith seems to be lining it up now he knows where the gap is just watch it
17:06what do you call that shot pat one hell of a good shot
17:17wow man then he's hit that hard
17:24that to me is one of those shots of the day absolutely superb
17:28a man in form a man on top of his game he comes down the wickets
17:31full face of that what a beautifully struck shot absolutely magnificent
17:40he's bowled him he's bowled graham smith
17:44and he's ecstatic because it's a big record for the australians
17:49a thoroughly deserved wicked he bowled a superb over
17:53previously shane warne came on and applied pressure
17:57and the precious salt to show a very well deserved wicked watch it coming through here online
18:04it's a slight inside edge graham smith is inclined to play
18:09not to the totally perpendicular of that and there we have 73 great runs of 74 78 balls 134 for two of 22.1 overs
18:26oh beautifully stopped that's the australian commitment for you again
18:41spread over his head nobody fielding down there one bounce four more to south africa
18:48i just have a feeling that joe callas is going to try and target shane warne here he knows that it's not
18:54easy for the spinner
18:59beautifully played nobody over extra cover on that line struck out the middle
19:07what a marvelous shot
19:08so it certainly is an advantage if you can read this man shane warne
19:19as bowl them spinning both ways it was that flipper
19:27oh beautifully struck nobody will stop that
19:30and again we are giving yourself lots of room to slash it away
19:43eleven overs remain and there's substantial batting to come
19:50worked away nicely chase for the sweeper definitely two
19:54tomorrow the man doing the cleaning up oh that's gone straight up in the air who wants it third man
20:04comes up and doesn't get a mitt on it bret lee the man well that steeple high high high above the lights
20:13he did have to cover a whole heap of ground but i don't think he got a touch on that baby
20:26the other way around this time much finer and that will go very close to four but not all the way
20:32three though for the salafricans 172 now for two
20:44always nick that one i'm afraid
20:48doesn't wait for umpire orchard to give him the old finger he's on his way nine to five
20:54beautiful nibbles straight to adam gilchrist
20:56beautiful played 49 though from nikki boyay he really did scored one run one ball short of uh
21:06six to the over just trying to push it there with a single going across him and
21:13bill quest happy with that dismissal 50 balls for that 49.
21:26oh how slow was that slow ball slow bounce or what and they've got two out of it
21:39oh that takes it africa to 177 for three it was funny
21:45but it must have been if your colors smile at it he's laughing
21:50normally uh mr iceman is your colors
21:58what happened here you actually stopped playing and then i better keep playing i've never seen that
22:04before
22:04that too has gone up in the air but the smell of boundaries underneath it
22:12and that's out jock callis departs great team
22:18mr maher the catcher
22:20well jock callis had been threatening to get out of that shot against shane warne for about three or four
22:27overs
22:29and once too often goes for the sweep
22:34he bounced on him a fraction and uh got it high up in the bat on the edge and look at that
22:40good take from jimmy maher had his eyes on it all the way
22:46and shane warne knows that he's won that battle
22:48it's jock callis that 18 took 27 to lorice not his most fluent tonight
23:08oh dear it's pitched and it's straightened he's got to go absolutely right pitched on spun just a
23:15fraction that's all it took that was definitely out as soon as it hit the pads i said that's out
23:24it's the one that went straight on the slider mackenzie
23:29first ball goes for the dreaded sweep as well oh dear just watch this
23:36just drifting in slightly goes straight on and that's plum that's hitting middle and off middle
23:42halfway down yes i'm afraid you can't uh stick your poor your old boot straight down the wickets
23:50and then my straight ones
23:51for africa now 181 for five
24:11gee that's a good hit that is a glorious strike from johnson road has gone about 12 seats back
24:17great shot it certainly was a bigot john t roads has stepped up to the plate again
24:24how many times he's done it in the series and young watson well at his pace he can't bowl there
24:36just picks up the length of all so quickly john t roads there's no real fuss
24:40doesn't worry too much we're getting back and across it's a swivel more than anything and right out of the
24:44screws
24:53on the run roads
24:54this time just passed warm
25:06might have just damaged his thumb
25:08it's not very hot out there it's pretty cool and uh
25:18shane warm doesn't like falling around you can see
25:22a little smile as well when you're in down
25:27on the full again worked on the leg side this time
25:31damian martin screaming in that's good work from damian martin just the single
25:34that square on the offside it's very very well struck four runs
25:43that's an important boundary
25:47it is but it was a poor delivery it must be said
25:51really full toss on off stump you're going to get away with that brings the 200 up
25:55many players around the world we've put that away with ease and vouchers one of them
26:07it's like side and fine and no fine leg
26:22chain what's in playing for the inexperience here now
26:25he's been hit through the offside he's trying to straighten it up
26:27and he's third down leg
26:34gotcha rocking back slaps it through extra cover past the infielder
26:39nanny bickle converges two runs that's good fielding from bickle
26:46high-class shot from mark boucher keeps the legs still in between shot
26:51hits it off the back foot with the weight on the front good placement good power
27:00more toss and into the crowd
27:04fine blow again from roads
27:09roads clapping his bat there to that gentleman
27:12taking a catch in the crowd and roads acknowledging it
27:15why not not easy to catch those at newlands and they've gone 60 70 meters
27:20in the middle of the bed that's the second big one from roads
27:27wow what's he doing tomorrow
27:30straight back past war
27:33mid-on's got some work to do brett lee and they come back for two more so that is a very
27:38very good over for south africa an expensive one warns last now he's finished 36-9
27:44german 24 for five
27:48one airborne it's flat it is to him it off and it is caught that's a very very good catch by shane
27:54watson he's moved in and he's grabbed that comfortably gee that went very very quickly indeed
28:00fine catch hit very powerfully mark boucher does it with a lot of power
28:06unfortunately straight to the man
28:08coming pretty quickly it's not easy to judge those the crowd behind you can lose the ball
28:19that you made a good contribution though 18 or 15 225 for six now
28:26he was in the slot it's going down a long off shame watson's getting underneath it and he takes
28:39another catch so that's an important wicket for australia this time of the innings pollock we know
28:44can be devastating towards the end pollock said he didn't middle it just skewed off the edge
28:52he sliced it mcgras he'll take the wicket no matter which way clearly see pollock's hands don't follow
28:59the line of the ball and that allows the ball to skew off good catch always difficult to catch at the
29:04end of the end of the innings so pollock departs just for eight or six deliveries
29:18so that's a good hit that is a lovely strike from different out four runs wow that is terrific where's
29:30he been mike where has he been we haven't seen him play like that since four games ago first ball in the
29:38middle of the bed straight down where he should be playing it wonderful stroke well done buddha different
29:53gives himself a room and he hits that one back on the square
29:57that is brilliant stuff from different what a finish you're right pat
30:02we've missed him he's a wonderful player and he has been sacrificed by the selectors
30:08and south africa end up with almost that 250 mark 249 for seven well johnty rhodes 39 of 24 he's done
30:17it again but what a start from graham smith thought he played exceptionally well nikki boyer did as well
30:23again the pinch hit a roll performed and look at the partnerships good start 63 of 66 balls smith and gibbs 71
30:32of 69 smith and boyer and then if we go to the sixth week we'll see 44
30:36of 29 between voucher and roads and the australian bowling well mcgras did well he only picked up two
30:42wickets though warm picked up two one a piece to bickle and watson 10 minute changeover see you then
30:51now here we go two slips in position two catches of course inside the additional overs first ball
30:56all right brilliant fielding very very good fielding by herschel gebb certainly saved a boundary
31:03i've got some advice to you guys sitting at home put your seat belts on this is going to be fascinating
31:10edge and over the top over the top and between first and second slip graham smith and jacques
31:15callus four runs bit of good fortune there for jimmy maher
31:21pitches off rises and leaves him nobody touches it
31:28it's going again that's a good shot it's over the top of uh neil mckenzie might as well stop running
31:33that's four where do you bow room garth where do you bowl i wonder a fraction short perhaps a half a yard
31:43short and bang fetch it it's a unique ability to pick up that ball that is as you say garth just
31:50marginally short most guys be playing back defenses or letting it go through to the keeper he just pounces
31:55on it from the crease basically and swats it for four it's a good shot straight back over the bowler's
32:03head just a couple of bounces and over the boundary for four so that's a good finish to the second over
32:09the last video from telemark has disappeared straight back over his head for four
32:20length ball looking to see him away and did straight back over his head it seemed to
32:29toe into the bat good work by callus
32:31that's in the air there are two fills we get underneath it one is neil mckenzie he's called
32:39for it and he's caught it swan pollock is struck so jimmy maher goes an important start and an
32:47important breakthrough for south africa well this is how the australians play if it's anywhere near
32:54up early on they like to bash it back over your head or bash it over mid wickets this time we've been
32:58spotting a bit of movement around let's have a look yes leaves him wrong length to pull and this
33:04one stayed up in the air for a long old while stuttering feet hands together oh thank goodness for
33:11that so jimmy maher goes for right only face 10 deliveries australian now 16 for one
33:28the boys in green and i think that tells a story of how dangerous adam gilchrist is in any form of the
33:45game and the crowd know too that this is a huge wicket for the boys in green the most dangerous man
33:54around carbon copy of the first few deliveries that he's faced pictures of stump seems away
34:02and what relief at last we've got him out without him absolutely annihilating us
34:10so adam gilchrist he follows jimmy maher he goes for seven the next four australian out 16 for two
34:25swing and a miss and pollock thought he had it for a while
34:33oh that was a tingle
34:36beautiful place to bowl it just held its line so nicely missed by a coat of varnish
34:42edge and just wide of the slip sean pollock down to hayward for a single
35:02step delivery again slides across the left-hander could so easily have gone to hand
35:07good shot he's hit that well when answer hayward's got some work to do
35:15and just the single that is really good throwing look at that return
35:19his throwing's on target
35:24yes he's got a bullet on that's for sure but uh
35:27because of the softness of this outfield
35:32looking to advance down the track and he gets it through
35:34monanta hayward sean pollock's not too happy with that that's raced away for four pollock thinks
35:39monanta hayward should have stopped it
35:42well clearly bivin doesn't think like i do i say maybe we should see you know he says no let's
35:47rather advance and step it down the ground
35:51and monanto doesn't get down quite fast enough
35:59full shot very good shot four runs
36:05just short of a length seven gone 33 for two
36:12well that's up in the air that should be out
36:16oh he's dropped it roger teller marcus has dropped it the second delivery from monanta hayward
36:23oh my word will that be expensive there was a catch that he should have taken and here we see it
36:31hooking high and up and it does travel in here quite a long time but roger teller marcus is right
36:38underneath it and just in the last minute seems to stretch out a little bit so it comes in
36:43it comes in short well he didn't get his hands on it hit him on the chest
36:49not tonight that's for sure pulled away for four that'll end in over a disappointing one for
37:01monanta hayward 40 for two
37:07struck pretty firmly but well fielded
37:08the piece of fielding like that certainly lifts the bonus for us just have a look at it dive full
37:23length difficult surface extremely well stopped
37:28that's powerfully struck half a hand and a pollock is in anguish he shouts
37:34he knows how important that is
37:46showing a great concern they're very unhappy and we'll see why it's a well struck well struck shot
37:53by shane full face the bat and he really should have had that i mean different is a very very fine
37:59fielder yes it's quite important that the fielders realize that if sean pollock's in a bowl he's sixth
38:06he's got to be backed up
38:10it's a big shout he's given him sean pollock's got his man that's the third record down
38:18well bowled pollock what a good comeback
38:20courageous bit of bowling this because he bowled roughly the same line except it's straightened on
38:31him let's just have a look at it
38:35comes forward
38:39and hits him in front that looks out when he hits it it looked as though it could have been an inside
38:45edge when he watched it live and and you can see him mumbling a little bit so there is that possibility
38:52so australia 56 for three
39:05inside edge that'll run away for four very difficult for mark poucher to stop
39:10bounced well in front of him i think yes it just seemed to squat him a bit i think he was expecting
39:18it to bounce as you'll see here
39:22edge he covers it and it just there it just bounced up the last minute i was incorrect
39:28just watch this it keeps low and then bounces up
39:31wonderfully fielded from john t roads the kind of standing we've always come to expect from him
39:41that'll end the 12th 69 62 for three
39:49that's pulled away just slightly short from callus
39:54that really was a good shot that it wasn't halfway down the wick it was just
39:59just short of back of a length and martin latched onto it beautifully as you can see
40:04wasn't there he picked it up
40:07minimal movement just watch this pickup here there it is just up over the top four run well it's a
40:14full house newlands that those graphs there show you that australia have got a bit of work to do
40:2171 for three after 13 the run rate's 5.5 they need 6.9 manante haywood's ball pretty well
40:32cut away for four beautifully timed
40:36and onto haywood just giving a little bit of width and that pace you get a bat on it betty races away
40:49well could this be the start of the australian run chase in earnest
40:54roads into the ground good fielding though
41:04what a series he's had not only in the field
41:06he's not today 39 off 24 was uh out of the usual top roads draw 338 runs in this series
41:16it's good shot that's a very very fine shot four runs gee that's out of the screws and it's raced
41:26away like a tracer bullet
41:28and this was another one out of the top draw from michael bevan gives himself a bit of room you see there
41:35comes away and slashes it through the gap on the offside wasn't a bad delivery
41:42back live inside edge past mark voucher very fine indeed and it's going to be a boundary off the first
41:48ball of the over
41:51well you need a bit of luck in this game particularly chasing such a big total
41:58it was wide and uh lucky to get away with it was martin
42:02yes telemarcus back in the attack he's uh replacement anti-haywood not too far away from that off stump
42:10down the track what's the difference going to get close wow what a terrific performance of
42:15dip and i didn't quite get there
42:20end result two runs six off two balls two pieces of good fortune for australia
42:28well you got to give him full marks for this effort put a dip and off rushes in
42:33yeah he just couldn't make it bounced about a foot in front of him
42:41sweeper on the offside smith's underneath it should take the catch and does
42:46smith is pretty pleased with that that is a huge record damian martin had obviously decided he was going
42:50to tee off and now he's on his way back well one of the safest pairs of hands in the modern game in
42:58south africa graham smith he's a good catcher anywhere
43:03it slipped and now in the outfield on the sweeper boundary he took a very very good catch there was
43:09a lot of width there martin went for it didn't quite middle it and smith got underneath it
43:17kalis gets the wicket and that's a vital vital one for south africa
43:22damian martin goes for 24 australia now 95 for four
43:35two roads crowd footers a catch hard to get past him that's for sure
43:46oh he does see how close he gets there cuts off the angle
43:55slow ball quick single roads has got the ball direct hit will find michael bevan wanting by
44:00some distance the throw went into the ground and then bounced over the stumps 17 overs gone 97 for four
44:08there's a big shot from roger telemarcus up goes the finger roger telemarcus is very very pleased with
44:17that one here's a huge danger man ricky ponding but not tonight
44:26well that's a huge wicket ricky ponting gone for just one roger telemarcus the man to do it
44:31it's haunting looking back at the screen to have a look at that one
44:39holds it from fairly wide and it does cut back a little bit haunting walking across a little bit but
44:46i reckon that's height might be a slight problem there but orchard had his finger up very very quickly
44:54i think he liked it
45:01so ponting goes for just one australia now 98 for five
45:16through the gap between callus and roads in the air catchable height
45:21he does so well johnty roads who else in that position again a really nice bit of fielding out
45:37there it's a bit greasy you'll see this a little bit of a little bit of a slip but look at that
45:43absolutely magnificent
45:44that's a wonderful shot of his legs now they've started to run slowly he must have hit it well he
45:53knew it from the beginning
46:00there was a very fine shot he knows the pace is there and he made it work from there he just turns
46:06it off a full toss but he played it well
46:14arvi nicknamed the freak he does some freaky things he's known as someone who can
46:23halfway struck again
46:27it's well fielded
46:29a brilliant piece of fielding out there
46:31just what's required now they need to keep the pressure on the australians
46:36and extremely well fielded full length dive
46:43i'll be showing why he's in the side yet again
46:46and just keeping it in excellent from colors
46:53and johnty roads has missed fielded can you believe it now that you don't see every night
46:59he can't believe it nor can i would nor can i just look at johnty looking down absolutely
47:06disconsolate and really for him a very straightforward side it did bounce a little bit low on that
47:12second bounce as you can see it's only one johnty lots of people to give them away
47:20you're allowed
47:26but yes skidded one on and he's bowed arvi that's a good record
47:38well that now is the death knell
47:40well harvey went back the ball just skidded on a little bit it didn't turn much we talked about
47:49it skinny
47:52it certainly did you were speaking about that slightly greasy ball and there you just saw it
47:57skid on just keep them mildly low but it pitched middle and off and hit leg
48:02and look at bogey there's ian harvey 14 of 16 balls and there go the hopes of australia in my view
48:16that's it back very powerfully that nearly took to heywood's hands off gone for four and he's 15
48:31michael bevan just 57 deliveries that's what you come to expect from michael bevan but this was
48:38a bludgeon he hit this ball with such immense power and you'll see on the slow action replayment
48:46nancy hayward really battling to get out the way of that
48:52he's bowled in that's good advice from mark belcher
49:08and here we see it shane warne aware that he has to keep those runs sticking along merrily
49:15and here we see a little bit more flight as the vice captain had said coming down to have a heave
49:21hoe and what delight for bogey what delight
49:27oh just magnificent but really intelligent bowling and intelligent
49:33that you know that the the relationship they shane warne a mere three runs but you know the relationship
49:39with the keeper is so crucial in any bowlers
49:53in the air and a wonderful catch short pollock has put up his right hand and clutched one out the
50:08air to get rid of michael bevan well that is now definitely the end of the australian cause
50:15well i haven't seen pollock looks so relaxed and looks so happy for so so long look at him there
50:25and here we have it needing to get the one so just tickling it around the corner getting a top edge
50:30and they're right outstretched and just taking it beautifully and shared the life from now
50:38at long last the victorious captain
50:40so michael bevan's gone 55 court by pollock or foyer australia 138 for eight
50:48oh they have to run not in the frame if that one hits
51:02he's nick that probably going to run away all the way before
51:08no sterling work
51:09jock house
51:18that's a straight over the top of long off there's a man
51:22oh lots of ground covered by neil mckenzie
51:26he's up there for a long long time and uh for a moment i thought mckenzie might actually get to it
51:32i'm amazed that he went for six when he hit it i thought it was high up on the bat
51:39well i'm afraid that's 15 love and it's not 15 uh love to you either mr hayward he's run you down
51:52big man red lee well that's adding insult to injury mary hayward he had one oh dear
52:01straight high hard and all the way 15 rows back side
52:13andy bickle a little bit of flight from bayer
52:17bickle connects beautifully and that just keeps going and going
52:21road circle saves one with that dive
52:38that's cut high away
52:39oh dearie deary me oh yay was a few well i'd say 10 or 12 meters in and it's so hard
52:53did he running off the line or did he actually
52:56the hover of 15 meters in let's have a look if you can see
53:00yes he's been oh yeah he was 15 or 20 meters in
53:04he looked as though he had it oh that stood up in the air a hand on it
53:18but a terribly difficult catch for the captain
53:30cracked away
53:35cracked away all the way to the back
53:38keller smart of thought he'd scared him off after belting him on elbow and then hitting him
53:44once more in a similar area which went for runs but
53:49bretley is certainly up for this challenge
53:54oh he's golden down the wicket he goes
53:57bretley just a bridge too far played quite beautifully though for those 28 runs of 27 balls
54:11australians needing nine comma four of the over and i'm afraid it is uh just about done
54:19kind of work that one through the leg side fatal mistake a little bit of turn and
54:24back to the half to go well again it was the flighted delivery similar to the one that for year
54:30dismissed sh shane worn with bretley is gone good little knock that 28 and 28 balls
54:36down the wicket he goes and it is all over
54:50south africa have at last one a one day international against these aussies they have been formidable here
55:02but at last a well-deserved victory for the south africans nicky boyay with his best ever
55:08uh six overs four for 21 and a memorable night and that's the last wicket mcgras just going down
55:18a little bit of turn for bier and voucher does the rest so a comfortable win in the end
55:23while some very good batting up front to bow the south africans
55:32for years five for 21 were just magnificent figures on a night when it wasn't easy for spin bowlers
55:38never really got into it fall of the wickets too regular and no partnerships really to talk about
55:50the third week at 40
55:54the fourth week at 39 so when you're chasing 250 you really have to have
55:59partnerships of 70 80 to make a difference south african bowlers well tonight they were 100
56:05better than they were in port elizabeth three for 28 for sean pollock at his magnificent best yeah
56:10well it was great to win um the last game and we can maybe look back and so we only as good as your
56:14last game and that's what we're clinging on to at this stage but australia really did play well
56:18throughout the series and i'd like to congratulate them on behalf of us i thought they were superb
56:22throughout and justified winners and just like to wish them well on their journeys back home the
56:27static man of the match award that a spell of bowling from the weinberg end by south africa's
56:34nikki boyer it was enough to get him the static man of the match award um it was the wicket just
56:43helped helped a little bit with skidding the ball onto onto the wickets and uh especially with the
56:48wet ball it was it wasn't really too much pressure it actually just get it on how important was it for
56:53you guys uh tonight to to set uh something of a record straight well we needed a win and uh we we got it
57:01tonight and uh i think the way the boys played um came back in the last couple of games was was
57:07quite nice to see michael bevan was obviously a key wicket for you wasn't he yeah he was it was actually
57:12if he left it alone it could have been a ride but it happens now the final match of the series always
57:18brings us to the man of the series and the static man of the series award adjudicated by members of
57:24the media australia's captain ricky ponting had led his side in his first ever series and had scored
57:33a hundred and taken part in some very very important partnerships and ricky ponting collects the
57:40stunning man of the series award oh very proud of the way the guys have performed uh right through
57:45the tour uh the test matches were very good for us and we played some great cricket in the one day
57:49series as well so i couldn't be happier with the way things have gone ricky ponting who collect the
57:54trophy and a check for 100 000 rand ricky ponting captain of australia congratulations to australia
58:04the world champions and they've come to south africa and set a new standard it is next year though that
58:14it all counts for all the teams in the world as they come for the world cup and that wraps up the
58:20presentation and the international season in south africa we'll have more for you next year
