00:00Hi everybody, welcome to Cricket on 5 and I'll look at the 3rd NatWest T20 International
00:29between England and South Africa. What a series it's been. What a fight back by the South
00:34Africans the other day in Taunton. Thus the series is now set at 1-1. We're at the Swalik
00:39Stadium in Cardiff and they say that the weather is set fair. This of course the venue that
00:44England fell apart in the Champions Trophy in that desperate semi-final performance
00:49against Pakistan. Now Owen Morgan, who played in that match, led the England side, is wrested
00:54from the side today. Thus Joss Butler gets his opportunity. A lot of fresh faces on both
01:00sides in these matches so far. Make of that what you will. The news here from Cardiff is
01:06that the toss has been won by A.B. de Villiers and he's asked England to bat first.
01:11Three changes for the England side. Alex Hales comes in for Johnny Bairstow. Mason Crane replaces
01:17Liam Dawson. And David Milan makes his debut for the England skipper Owen Morgan. Joss Butler
01:23the captain's the team. And for South Africa, Imran Tahir, one leg spinner coming in for the
01:28left arm spin of Tabrez Shamsi. The dominance of the quick bowlers, Moorkel,
01:34Patterson and Morris, was decisive at Taunton and may be so here again today.
01:41Chris Morris to bowl the first ball to Jason Roy.
01:47Well, so well at Taunton on Friday night, did Morris. He was the difference, bowled with
01:51a lot of aggression, quick, got some steep bounds. Might see a bit more of that today
01:57as well because of the long square boundaries here at Cardiff. It's a long hit to deep square
02:03legs so shorter length balls are popular with fast bowlers.
02:07Oh, that's hard. That's got miles in the air. The keeper wants it. He's called for it. Still coming down. Oh, he's dropped it. Shelled it.
02:22That went miles.
02:23Well, it was always money on the ball, really. It's so difficult to take those catches. It's
02:31Morselli, the wicket-keeper, who's standing in this series for Quinton de Coch. I actually think
02:36Quinton de Coch, if he was watching that, I'd be glad he wasn't out there.
02:40Well, I'll tell you what, I think they're wrong two, but they might have run four. It went that high.
02:43The wind just keeps taking it away from the wicket-keeper, and he was really in a position to take it.
02:53Well, I have to say, I don't think I've ever seen a ball go as high as that in my time watching the game.
03:02That's going to be a cuck on.
03:05The boundaries are in.
03:07There you go there, the boundary ropes. It's a small hit.
03:11Square and straight. It should be a big score.
03:23Yeah, that's good fast hands from Alex Hales.
03:27A.B. de Villiers have just brought third man into the circle and put square leg on the boundary.
03:33Not too sure that's the right approach on this wicket.
03:36It's just a free hit for any right-hander now.
03:39And because of the bounce of Mornay Morkle, the ball generally flies to those parts.
03:49Oh, it's a lovely punt from Jason Roy. That'll be the first boundary for him.
03:53Oh, it's a lovely punt.
03:54It's a lovely punt.
03:55It's a lovely punt.
03:56Because of such an open space on the onside that he just moves over to the off-stump, which opens up that onside.
04:02Out.
04:04Straight off the glove. Bounce from Morkle.
04:08Jason Roy trying to glide it down to third man.
04:12And it just followed him. It just nips back. Simple catch.
04:16Well, this is the problem when you're lumbered or burdened with the task of getting teams off to fast starts against a new ball and an excellent bowler like Morkle.
04:30You're going to get the odd difficult ball to handle.
04:33And the way that just cut back and bounced made it very tricky for Roy.
04:37He was trying to just lift it over the keeper or the slips, but he got it a bit too fine.
04:42Good delivery from Morkle.
04:44And Roy out for eight. England 13 for one.
04:47Good points.
04:53Oh, what a start to international career. That is.
04:56Just hit a six, second ball.
04:58Terrific start for David Milan.
05:01Wow, that's almost Gower-esque.
05:03He hit his first ball in test cricket for four.
05:05Milan's hit his second ball in one day cricket for six.
05:08And it was a similar sort of shot.
05:11Slightly short of a length to a left-hander with lots of time to pick his spot, pull it.
05:16Nonchalantly into the deep mid-wicket boundary.
05:22Oh, that's a nice drive. It's a nice placement.
05:26He's on the face to a few balls in international cricket, David Milan, but...
05:30He already looks the part.
05:32Nice pull shot, now nice drive.
05:36Well, there's the England captain today, Joss Butler.
05:38And the full-time England captain, Owen Morgan, who's decided to rest this game.
05:43I just don't quite get that decision.
05:461-1 in the series.
05:47Cup final.
05:48Management have decided to rest Owen Morgan.
05:50He only plays in two formats.
05:52I know you want to give a few players a chance, but...
05:55You know, you've got to look to play your best teams when you get into a cup final like this.
06:00That's a nice glance to third man for David Milan.
06:12Ideally, Filiquo's into the attack and it's width on offer.
06:15That's a poor ball, that's a gift.
06:22The attempted slower ball by Filiquo.
06:29It's clinically dispatched, though, by Milan.
06:33He's looking for that short one all the time, I think.
06:35He's back on his stumps there, giving himself plenty of time to see it,
06:38and then pick his spot.
06:52Steps across his stumps and plants that one brilliantly over deep mid-wicket.
06:56Clever batting from Milan, who, of course, was actually brought up in South Africa,
07:00though born in England.
07:08That's lofted, straight up in the air.
07:11Simple catch.
07:12And down!
07:13Dear oh dear.
07:14Well,
07:16an attack of drop season on the South Africans today.
07:21This is where Ndile Pellequea wants to find a hole in the ground,
07:25bury himself.
07:26You really won't see a simpler catch than that.
07:30And the problem
07:32is that AB de Villiers brought Morris back earlier than he wanted to
07:37in order to pick up
07:39either Hales or Milan.
07:42And so the plan should have worked.
07:43Lovely slower ball.
07:46Committing Alex Hales where he didn't want to be committed.
07:49And he gives up on it.
07:52And then he thinks, oh look.
08:01Ford Milan.
08:02And there's real authority in the way he's said about his first one day innings.
08:07Race to 32 from just 19 balls.
08:10Well, that's the old insult to injury that ball.
08:14Bonus concentration ruined by the drop catch.
08:16Three men out on the leg side boundary.
08:23That's short and pummeled down to long on by Milan.
08:26And a boundary again.
08:28Finding the gap between one of those men on the leg side boundary.
08:32Quite get it, but it's a short way there.
08:35Well, it's a difficult place to ball spin.
08:37This isn't the shortest boundary by any means.
08:40There's a quick outfield.
08:41It's a short enough boundary.
08:43And the ball just sits up.
08:44You drop short here.
08:47It's quite a consistent height of bounce.
08:55And has he got the distance?
08:56I think he has.
08:57My goodness me.
08:58It certainly has.
09:00That's bounced on the roof of the far end and then from the end of the river.
09:03From the end of the river.
09:04Has he got the distance?
09:08You can often tell actually by a player's pose after the shot.
09:14The almost dismissive nature of this.
09:18You've got just the right elevation.
09:24Fantastic.
09:33That's six.
09:38No trouble about that.
09:39That's a full toss.
09:40Knee high to Hales.
09:42He could clear a bigger banner than that.
09:44With a ball like that tight.
09:50You know, in general,
09:51Hales has tried to hit the ball a bit too hard today.
09:57He's giving that some hammer for sure, but
10:00He could just revert to a more orthodox method.
10:02He'd find he'd time the ball a bit better.
10:09Oh!
10:10Just one more court.
10:11Four runs.
10:13To Milan.
10:14And 50.
10:15From just 31 balls.
10:18Storming start to his international career.
10:20If the selectors were picking a guy.
10:23Wondering if he can play or not.
10:24But he's really answered them.
10:25That he clearly can.
10:29Tenev's gone, so halfway through England's innings.
10:36And the score, 88 for one.
10:38Brilliance from David Milan.
10:41And Alex Hales unbeaten on 21.
10:43Looking to improve.
10:44England are nicely placed.
10:46Welcome back to the Swaylick Stadium where the England side have made a very promising start.
10:57The debutant David Milan is on 55.
11:00And this partnership is looking to get the score to well over 150.
11:03Paul.
11:04Hales did well to reach it.
11:05Dear Moorkel's experience is not showing here.
11:06He's lost a bit of control.
11:07And er.
11:08He's really cashing in.
11:09Well I think this is good from Hales.
11:10But he's just using the pace.
11:11Just er.
11:12Nice little glide.
11:13Well a great shot.
11:14As good as anything.
11:15Dalana has hit full strokes and cut strokes and the odd drive.
11:18But he's really good.
11:19But he's got a bit of control.
11:20And er.
11:21And er.
11:22And this is good from Hales.
11:23He's just using the pace.
11:24And this is good from Hales.
11:25Which is a nice little glide.
11:26And this is good from Hales.
11:27And this is good from Hales.
11:28And this is good from Hales.
11:29But he's just using the pace.
11:30Just a nice little glide.
11:32That great shot, as good as anything, Solana has hit full strokes and cut strokes and the odd drive but none so pure as that.
11:56Good strike, whoa!
11:58I don't know whether, whether Bardeen got fingered at that or not but it was hit flat and hard.
12:09Yeah it was and I guess Taunton it would have been a six but many other grounds this is out.
12:14It's only just cleared the head of the fielder.
12:18The bat went into the stumps, Hales went on the big roll but he made it.
12:31That's clever, really clever.
12:43It's a beautiful pitch for batting but he took the pitch out of that.
12:47Well I don't agree with the England captain not playing but one thing's for sure in this series England have found a few players in Mason Crane, Tom Curran and now David Milan.
12:57This is a wonderful shot.
13:08That's four more.
13:10Runs aplenty here.
13:12A partnership now worth a hundred of which Milan has the lion's share.
13:16Man back who catches it very well.
13:29Down by his boot laces David Miller who has good hands and good athletic movement does the job and finally Alex Hales is done for.
13:38Yeah and finally South Africa hold on to a catch.
13:42That will be disappointing for A.B. de Villiers today because the South African fielding has been a little off.
13:49Well this is a really good catch diving forward.
13:52Well judged in the deep.
13:54Hales goes for 36.
13:561-1-8 for two.
13:57That's a glorious stroke pigging the gap at extra cover.
14:11He really is fine batting against the spin.
14:17Well I think this is with the spin because he's picked the googly.
14:20So he's picked the googly and just decided to just give himself a little bit of space on the onside.
14:26And just time it over extra cover.
14:29That's wonderful batting.
14:30You see the way that he opens the blade as well.
14:41Should be caught really.
14:43Oh yeah he's caught too.
14:45Dane Parkinson comes around and makes it look dead easy.
14:47Dead easy.
14:49What a shame that David Milan has to go.
14:52He's sparkled here in Cardi.
14:55Yeah he really has a tremendous start to his international career.
15:00The googly again from Imran to here.
15:02That's generally what he bowls.
15:04Straight honours and googly's.
15:06And it comes right off the bottom of the bat.
15:08Well judged catch.
15:12And a tremendous hand here for David Milan.
15:14They stand to him at the Suilek.
15:18Knowing that he won't see a more confident or impressive debut than that.
15:23It's 78.
15:24He made it.
15:25It's 1-2-7-3.
15:26The goal is going to start going.
15:36Oh!
15:38Oh!
15:39Wow!
15:40Imran Tahir cannot believe it.
15:42Just taking a wicket.
15:43Just butlers on strike.
15:44Because the batsman crossed.
15:46And the ball goes through and under everything.
15:48everything. Well, I think the wiki keeper's dummied here. Look, Josh Buller goes through it.
15:54Josh to reverse it and misses it. The keeper's gone with the reverse.
16:08Big shout from Imran Tahir. Look at that, how short it is behind the keeper. It goes for four. It just flicks off the pad of Josh Butler.
16:15Imran Tahir is still appealing and by the time he's finished as appeal, it's gone for four.
16:23Josh Butler hasn't laid a bat on Imran Tahir yet. I can't read the googly.
16:35Well, there you go. That was a real good shout.
16:39Good strike, flat six. Watch out in the crowd. Tremendous power from Butler.
16:55That's the first one he's really got hold of. And he knows, I think, that Pellequeo is looking the bowl full and just outside off stump.
17:03He didn't quite get that one right. It was a half volley rather than a Yorker.
17:07That's just enough space to allow Butler to smash it over long off.
17:11Another baseball shot from Josh Butler. It's going to be four more.
17:17This is really good from the England skipper today.
17:21You've got two men out there who've got hand speeds of 100 miles an hour when it's tested in the lab.
17:29And you can see the hands getting through that one incredibly fast there to deposit that over deep mid wicket.
17:41Well, he's Josh Butler going to bring out his ramp.
17:45No, he's not. Brilliant. Fantastic bowling.
17:49That's a nice little ramp. Square of the wicket. It's a zack of the ball that he's hoping to get.
18:05Goes down early to play the sweep. And Patterson just delivers a nice, juicy full toss on leg stump.
18:13That's Billings' speciality. The pick up over deep square leg.
18:17See the left foot going outside off stump. Just helping it on its way.
18:28That's going to be out. Simple catch for A.B. de Villiers.
18:34Change in pace for Patterson.
18:39Sam Billings just couldn't quite get going.
18:41Yeah, he came in in, I suppose, a slightly difficult position.
18:45He had no time to really get set.
18:48He had to play shots from the word go.
18:50And that was actually quite well bowled.
18:52Denying him the opportunity to hit through the leg side.
18:54He just had to reach for it. Lost control of the bat.
18:56And that was a bit of a lame departure in the end for Billings.
19:0012 from 11 balls. 166 for 4.
19:03Oh, first ball, Liam Livingstone. What an indifferent few days he's had.
19:18Well, I wonder what he felt after that really quite poor display at Taunton.
19:24He would have gone home at night and reflected on it and maybe decided to come out and play a bit more normally.
19:30But no, anything but.
19:32Gone for the funky shot first ball and it's just inexperience, naivety and simple bit of success for the bowler.
19:43And a duck for Livingstone. 166 for 5.
19:46Well, there we go. Dane Patterson on a hat-trick. Bowling to Liam Plunkett.
19:53Oh, it's a good one. It's a real good one.
20:09Oh, what a shot. What a shot that is. It's just the right hand of Josh Butler.
20:14And he just uses it to great effect.
20:20Almost looked as if de Villiers was clapping the shot.
20:23In fact, he was clapping the bowler because he pretty much got his ball just about where he was aiming.
20:29But Butler, his ingenuity is managing to lever those balls for six from pretty much a Yorker length.
20:36Now that's going to be it. Yeah, good catch again from Devin Miller.
20:45Really good catch diving forward. Safe pair of hands.
20:48Oh, I see him Plunkett. A little bit hard done by there. He connected with that pretty well.
20:56But he picked out the one fielder apart from De Villiers who you can pretty much bank on.
21:00He's going to take those deep catches. Very good mover. Good athlete. David Miller.
21:05He's done that hundreds of times for South Africa. And Ingin's sixth bucket falls to 179.
21:12No, that's high. Who wants it? Who wants it? Yeah. Nice catch again.
21:27Jan Jod Smuts is the catcher, South Africans catching has been a lot better in the last
21:36turnovers.
21:40Useful little contribution from Joss Butler, we saw one or two vintage shots from him,
21:45that was something he tried to conjure up, a sort of hack over backward point, just got
21:50underneath it a bit too much, but he's had an impact here, 31 from 22 balls, and England
21:56now 180 to 7.
22:06Oh, then this is outstanding from Paterson, it's his fourth wicket, quick, straight.
22:17He's on a hat-trick for the second time in the game, 4 for 31 from his 3.4 overs, not much
22:25you can do with this, without a shovel, 180 for 8.
22:33Right, Dane Paterson, take two, hat-trick ball again, bowling to Tom Curran.
22:42The England tail-enders have enjoyed that ramp shot.
22:44Well, the last ball of the England innings, and it's gonna be a single, magnificent from
23:00Dane Paterson.
23:04That's a good score, they've got, 181 for 8, they finish with.
23:07Well, that's a scorecard that will forever be remembered by Dawid Milan on debut, the highest
23:15score by any England cricketer in 2020 cricket on debut.
23:19Some splendid strokes by Joss Butler at the end of the innings there, though England didn't
23:23really make the best of the last five overs, just 32 runs came when those five wickets fell,
23:28all of which means 181 for 8.
23:32Terrific stuff from Dane Paterson, 4 for 32, with 11 dots in those four overs, and a decent
23:38fight back by Andile Pellequeo, who finished with the 2 for 44.
23:42He seems to bowl well under pressure.
23:45182 then, for the South Africans to win the match, and take the series.
23:48Here's your chance to win a day to remember at the 4th England vs South Africa Investec Test
24:04Match in Manchester.
24:06The competition winner will be handed a pair of Three Lions hospitality tickets to the Saturday

24:59entries.
24:59For rules, go to channel5.com slash win.
25:02And good luck.
25:03Some brilliant batting by David Milan, set up England's 181 for eight.
25:12Having said that, they didn't make quite the most of their last five overs.
25:16Mind you, it'll take a fine South African run chase to win it and take the series.
25:20Here are the opening batsmen, Riza Hendricks in picture, and with him, JJ Smuts.
25:36Swings down the leg side and goes for four buys.
25:39That is not the way to start a defense of 181.
25:53That's out.
25:54That is as easy a catch to mid-off as you'll ever see.
25:57So, we get the celebration from Tom Curran, if not five as extravagant as the one the
26:04other day.
26:07Riza Hendricks has to go.
26:09Yeah, Tom Curran.
26:10I like the celebrations from Taunton.
26:12This is a little bit low-key.
26:13Almost like he expects to get wickets on in his second game.
26:17Simple catch for Plunkett.
26:18Perfect start for England.
26:20There you go.
26:21A little bit of the old stuff from Taunton.
26:23Not quite as far.
26:24There is a Hendricks for score.
26:27Hendricks goes for nought.
26:2911 for one.
26:33Right, well, here's a surprise.
26:34It's Chris Morris who's come in at number three.
26:36The big hitting Chris Morris.
26:39And I think what A.B. de Villiers feels is you've got to give Morris time to get himself in.
26:43He's so dangerous.
26:46If he's in, he hits it long and hard.
26:52A little bit of room with the feet.
26:54Not perfect timing.
26:56But, uh, could be a couple.
26:59Maybe three.
26:59Yeah, three here for Morris.
27:12That's brilliant.
27:12You see that a lot now in modern cricket.
27:17It's partly a premeditated shot.
27:19And then, in the second time, it's a response to the length of the ball.
27:23So they can carve it if it's full.
27:25Or they can slash it if it's short.
27:28Yeah, what I like about this shot from Morris is he doesn't try to hit it too hard.
27:31Look, he gets in position early.
27:33And he just makes sure he gets the bat on the ball.
27:35Wonderful timing and placement.
27:38And more and more the players get out of the way of the ball.
27:41Man back, man back, should catch it.
27:54Yes, well taken.
27:55Alex Hales in the deep.
27:59And Josh Butler loved it.
28:00Almost as if it was a plan.
28:03They've trapped Chris Morris.
28:08And it's a terrific start for Chris Jordan.
28:10He had a difficult night at Taunton on Friday.
28:13But two balls in, he's got a key wicket.
28:16That's why he's smiling.
28:18And England are celebrating.
28:19Because of the fact that Chris Morris is such a dangerous striker.
28:29Morris goes for eight.
28:30It's 22 for two.
28:34Right, A.B. de Villiers.
28:37Maybe the man who stands between England and victory.
28:40Amongst the best, if not the best.
28:43People would generally acknowledge that de Villiers and Coley,
28:46the best short-form batsmen in the world.
28:49I wouldn't say he's quite at his best in this series.
28:55And his standards are very different from anybody else's.
28:59To see the ball that early, to pick the gap as soon as you've gone to the wicket.
29:08And the fielding from Livingston matches the start by de Villiers.
29:12Five gone, it's 26 for two.
29:14Five gone, it's 26 for two.
29:24That's a big shout.
29:26And there is a noise.
29:27Joss Butler is convinced as an outside edge on this.
29:30just wonder if it
29:32just flicked the back pocket
29:35of the trouser
29:36well there we go the ultra edge will tell us whether you've got
29:38an outside edge yes
29:40just a little feather there
29:41no wonder the England captain Joss Butler was dancing
29:44up and down
29:46talk about a huge noise that's a huge six
29:50two noises one off the bat
29:54and one when it cannon into the cauldry box
29:56it's a huge blow
29:58from John John Smuts
30:01people looking up
30:03from their supposedly safe
30:05seats in the eighth row
30:06sailed over their heads
30:08now another four
30:14good batting
30:16Smuts just giving himself a little bit of space
30:19on the onside
30:20few South Africans
30:23in the crowd enjoying this
30:25and he's going to be met with a boundary
30:35hold well in the first game of the series at the Aegeus Bowl where the boundaries were a lot bigger than they are here in Cardiff
30:42so this is going to be a challenge for the young leg spinner
30:45and it was his home ground of course the Aegeus Bowl where is less familiar with this he's played very few
30:51T20 games for Hampshire in fact
30:53brilliant from Liam Plunkett
31:00brilliant from Liam Plunkett
31:02this is what bowlers have to do
31:04they have to watch the feet of the batsmen
31:06that's what all the real good T20 bowlers do
31:10watch the feet and try and follow the batsmen
31:13don't give them anything to free up the hands with
31:16look at that
31:17Amy Lewis goes leg style
31:18Liam Plunkett goes you know what I'm following you
31:20interestingly for all his great skill actually
31:24Aby de Villiers hasn't got a great T20 national record
31:26only averaging 25 with no hundreds in this format of the game
31:33the rate required for South Africa is at 11
31:35129 from 69
31:37Aby de Villiers is 9 from 8
31:39yet to hit a boundary
31:41I said yet
31:46what a strike that is
31:48one of his favorite areas smashing it over extra cover
31:51just hitting with the spin
31:56just backing away slightly to give himself space
31:58to hammer it over the extra cover region
32:01but even though it's got brutality about it
32:03he's got elegance as well
32:04well you feel that Aby de Villiers has gone into boundary mode
32:08he's hit the one
32:12now that's a catch possibly
32:16it's not quite it's going to be another two for Aby de Villiers
32:19now that's got to be out
32:33who's under it
32:34who wants it
32:35very safe indeed for David Milan
32:38vatted very nicely
32:41and now takes a
32:43a real good catch down at fine leg
32:45and Plunkett deserved that
32:48because
32:49he bowled that one at nearly 92 miles an hour
32:52really got it up in a hurry
32:54and Smut and followed him as well as he tried to make room
32:57so he tucked him up
32:59cramped him for space
33:00the top edge
33:01and safely pouched
33:03by the star of the day so far for England
33:05David Milan
33:06and Smut is on his way for 29
33:0859 for 3
33:11England very good with the bat
33:13and for the first 10 overs of the South African innings
33:15they've been very good with the ball
33:17but while ever that man Aby de Villiers is out there
33:19South Africa will feel they've got a chance
33:22welcome back to some blue sky in the evening here in Cardiff
33:34South Africa 64 for 3 after 10 overs
33:37so struggling in pursuit of England's 181
33:40mind you two excellent players at the wicket
33:43Aby de Villiers and David Miller who's just arrived
33:46that's four
33:56beautifully found the gap between
33:58deep square leg and deep mid wicket
34:01Mason Crane just feeding the
34:03Tavilliers sweet
34:05full toss that time
34:07to really reach for it though
34:09manufactured shot actually
34:12that's big that's huge that's gone about 20 rows back into the stand
34:24and this is Mason Crane suddenly realizing it's a man's game
34:28He's bowling a frightening player
34:36player with everything in his armoury
34:40and by that I don't just mean the strength that's carried that as far as it's gone
34:45but the flexibility
34:47I think of a way to start against Aby de Villiers
34:54when he came on at Southampton for the first time
34:56it was Aby de Villiers he bowled to
34:58full of field changes let's see if he can hold his nerve here
35:06well that's an even better shot actually
35:13there was nothing wrong with that ball
35:14it was on the stumps a little bit of spin
35:17just the genius of de Villiers picked up six
35:21the question that Crane faces here is
35:24is does he bowl wider of off stunts
35:27and make de Villiers fetch it more
35:31does he drop his length back and risk being pulled
35:35does he fire it full with an over spinner and try to get the Yorker right
35:40there is options even de Villiers like that shot
35:43here is another option get him off strike
35:50and that might be short of the man
35:54it's taken
35:56what a fantastic first wicket for Mason Crane
35:59and not surprisingly he's absolutely ecstatic
36:02and so are England
36:04that's a great celebration that's up there with Tom Curran's first wicket
36:11with his second ball in Taunton
36:13imagine put yourself into Mason Crane shoes now
36:16you're bowling at one of the great players in the history of the game
36:19he's hammered you out of the park twice
36:21the threat's there for three and four
36:23and you win the little battle
36:26you win the moment you carry your side in position of power in the game
36:30by getting rid of a master batsman
36:33Mason Crane's big moment de Villiers has gone for 35 it's 82 for 4
36:38it's probably four
36:49fine leg fielder
36:50well as he stopped it he's knocked it parallel with the road
36:54I'll tell you what magician
36:56magician
36:57Mason the magician
37:01Crane the saviour
37:06bet he couldn't do that again if he tried
37:08stayed all the way about three inches inside the road
37:13you know it's your day when that happens
37:16and he didn't touch it with his knee either
37:22or he did there but not in touch with the ball
37:25nice out and that's a good catch by Joss Butler
37:36and that might be the decisive wicket because
37:38David Miller is equally dangerous on his day in this format of the game
37:43to be a very good catch by Joss Butler
37:46I like Chris Jordan's energy today
37:48hasn't backed around with slower balls
37:50he's come and tried to hit the pitch nice and hard
37:53just gets it to hurry through
37:56Miller who's thrown everything at that
37:58he's out of position and now out of the game
38:00just seven for David Miller a dangerous threat has gone
38:04another one maybe six for five now
38:11oh
38:15good Google
38:17bold that a couple of times at the Aegeus bowl
38:19and the South Africans didn't pick it
38:25absolutely brilliant and the crowd as Mark
38:38said the crowd really enjoyed it
38:40that's the name doesn't resonate with everyone and you're gonna see a lot more of it
38:46that's high and that's probably a chance to Billings
39:01and that's safely taken
39:03Jordan gets his second wicket
39:05South Africa falling like flies now
39:07this time for um
39:09that Dean is the man
39:10caught out deep
39:12don't even look safe under these
39:14high catches
39:16hours of practice making perfect
39:19of course making things look easy is
39:22part of the result of all that practice
39:25I've really been impressed with the weighing in the bowl here
39:28the lines have been good
39:29the use of the bouncer has been especially good
39:32field settings have been
39:34very smart
39:36and things look very comfortable and convincing right now
39:39I mean late three it's 91 for six
39:42that is six just swung away
39:56casuality like by Mosselli
39:59David Willi back into the attack
40:04flat
40:06shuffled across his stumps a touch
40:08the South African wicketkeeper
40:12yeah he came in at number three in the
40:14in the game of Taunton and
40:16actually played okay
40:17I mentioned he was a very bottom-handed player
40:20that's not necessarily a bad thing
40:30powerful shot by Pellequea
40:32suggests maybe David Willi is the slowest of the England seamers
40:35will be the one they target
40:36well they need to target everybody
40:38but don't you think Pellequea was almost saying
40:41see people do that to me you know when I run in bowl
40:44I have to have my say occasionally
40:47just thrashing back past David Willi
40:54he's looking for it over mid off and he's got it over mid off
40:56good shot one bounce into the ropes
40:59so three consecutive falls
41:01six and two falls off this over already
41:03against David Willi
41:04there is a man back there's nothing he could do about that
41:19I don't know what shot you call it
41:20forehand smash maybe
41:22yep Wimbledon's coming up
41:25whatever the shot description it's six
41:29fancying a bit of David Willi this South African tie
41:31yeah it's a flat batted forearm
41:34and that's six more easily
41:46really I've said it from the previous over
41:49but Willi's got to get it full
41:51that has to be his default position
41:52Yorkers
41:53he doesn't have the pace to hit length
41:55or back of a length
41:56yeah absolutely
41:58he's got to try and get a hit into the onside
42:01it's a big square boundary on the onside
42:04that's going the river
42:16it's a heck of a strike
42:17oh it's almost the longest boundary of the ground
42:19for a boundary over extra cover
42:21not quite
42:22just the four not the six
42:24a hopeless cause but at least some fun for the crowd
42:27yeah some entertainment and one of the few balls that Tom Curran
42:30just over pitches
42:32going for the Yorker
42:34but he's still a good strike
42:35sometimes the
42:36low full toss is hard to hit
42:39now that one might be caught
42:45well not might be
42:46will be
42:47Sam Biddings just doesn't look like he'll drop them
42:51I mean
42:52the umpires are just checking for a no ball here
42:55if the ball is above waist height at the point of reaching the batsman it can be called no ball or will be called no ball
43:02or will be called no ball
43:04oh no that's fine
43:05that's just above thigh high isn't it
43:07Marcelli goes for 36 to score 145 for 7
43:10well this is carried a long long way
43:24one bounce forward
43:25one bounce forward
43:26it's all in a vain cause
43:29well we er
43:30saw Fulacuer try to
43:32wrap Liam Plunkin
43:33with a bit of comedy
43:35on this occasion to Chris Jordan
43:37he er
43:38gets a little bit of bat on it
43:39oh nice shot to end the game with
43:48little chunk over mid off by Mone Mockel
43:51no matter as far as England are concerned
43:54an impressive performance with the ball
43:56in fact I'd say that
43:58margin of victory
44:00could be greater than the 19 runs
44:02it actually is in cycle
44:04yeah I think over the three matches England have just looked a better team
44:07and it's er it's been a series where the promise of a few debutants
44:12has shone through for England
44:14Tom Curran, Mason Crane
44:15and David Milan
44:17certainly three players that I think we're going to see a lot more of in England colours
44:21the South Africans were dependent on someone playing a bigger innings than those who got in and got out
44:2729 for Smuts, 35 for de Villiers
44:3036 for Mosselli
44:31and then 27 unbeaten at the end from Pelleco
44:34162 for 7
44:37falling 19 short of England's 181
44:41I reckon England bowl very well actually
44:43Tom Curran outstanding
44:45Chris Jordan pretty good
44:47three wickets for him
44:48one for Plunkett
44:49and one for Mason Crane
44:51who had that golden moment against AB de Villiers
44:53and showed plenty of class and courage out there
44:55so there it is
44:57victory by 19 runs
44:58and England take the series by two matches to one
45:02looking in from the outside England just had too many guns for you
45:06I played a better game today
45:07there's no doubt about that
45:08we let ourselves down in the field in the first 20 overs
45:13and came up 19 runs short that's all
45:16and it's disappointing standing here now thinking that we could have done a lot of things differently in the field
45:20but we were outplayed by a better team today
45:23If you were looking ahead to the test series which we know you won't be a part of
45:26would you feel confident of South Africa's chances against England?
45:30I do, I do
45:31I feel we played really good test cricket over the last couple of years
45:35I think we have a good chance
45:37we need to
45:38I think one area that we might be under pressure is with a bat in hand
45:42if we put the runs on the board
45:44because of inexperience
45:45if we put the runs on the board I think we have a really good chance
45:48David Milan who was chosen as man of the match with me now
45:51along with Joss Butler England's captain today
45:53what a sparkling start to an international career
45:56well done
45:57Thank you, yeah
45:58can't really describe it
45:59it's
46:00I didn't wake up this morning thinking I was going to do that
46:02I would have taken 20 of 15 balls and sort of walked off it happy
46:05but look it's great to contribute and to be given a chance first and foremost
46:08yeah I mean to bring your county form
46:10the best of your county form to the international game
46:12tells the selectors a lot
46:14yeah look it's
46:15it is tough when you're knocking on the door all the time
46:17and you sort of look at the team ahead of you
46:19and you just think there's sort of no way in
46:21you almost need guys rested or guys to get injured
46:23which you never wish bad on anyone
46:25so you know
46:26to be given an opportunity and to hopefully have taken it
46:29and to sort of be in and around the squad now is fantastic
46:32there was much to like about your cricket today Joss
46:34yeah I thought it was a really good performance all round obviously
46:37David with the bat coming in on debut
46:39there is pressure on you in the debut when you have rested players
46:44so huge show of character from him to really take that on and play really well
46:49and I think actually get us pretty much up to a really good score
46:52I thought on that wicket with the dimensions of the field
46:55and I thought a fantastic bowling performance and fielding performance
46:58very complete so very pleased
47:00what were you thinking when AB was smacking Mason Crane into the crowd
47:04I was hoping we could push the boundary back a bit
47:06you know he's one of the best to have played the game
47:09and a young 20 year old leg spinner
47:11you know it's a tough baptism that
47:13he's got a big heart hasn't he
47:14yeah huge credit to him to keep going
47:16you know I thought it would be very easy to go very defensive
47:19and try and you know stay calm
47:23he looked like he enjoyed that challenge
47:24which is a huge credit to him
47:26and I love the celebration of the wicket
47:28that shows what it's all about
47:30and a huge credit to him
47:31great thank you both very much for your time
47:33a thoroughly impressive performance by England
47:36they've taken the series by 2-1
47:38we're looking forward to the test matches
47:40four of them against the South Africans
47:42join us for those
47:43but for the moment from Cardiff
47:44from all of us
47:45it's goodbye
47:46you
47:56you
