00:00In the southeastern corner of Europe, a region that for decades remained outside the frame
00:05is now at the center of European energy security.
00:09Following the energy blockades in Russia, the European natural gas map is being redrawn
00:14and TRACE is taking on a key role.
00:17Two liquefied natural gas terminals are already operating in Greece.
00:23One of them, the floating FSRU in Alexandropolis, already supplies energy to Greece and Europe.
00:30At the same time, there are plans to build a second terminal with the aim of increasing
00:34LNG imports, mainly from the US, which will be channeled to Central and Eastern Europe
00:39to meet increased demand and compensate for losses from the ban on Russian energy.
00:44However, the implementation of this infrastructure is stumbling over tough political bargaining
00:49in Brussels.
00:51The European Commission has decided not to finance new natural gas infrastructure, citing
00:56the goals of the green transition.
01:00On the other hand, governments and energy groups in European countries are pushing for
01:04a change of course.
01:07Pressure on Brussels is mounting, not only from within the Union, but also from the United
01:12States, with representatives of the European Energy Commission attending a crucial meeting
01:16in Washington at the end of February.
01:19The Commission's decision is expected in 2026, as alternative networks must be ready before
01:25energy gaps are created.
