The United States is eager to strengthen energy ties with Greece, according to the newly appointed U.S. ambassador in Athens. Speaking during his first public remarks, the ambassador highlighted the growing importance of Greece as a regional energy hub and a key partner in advancing energy security across Southeast Europe.
He emphasized Washington’s commitment to supporting projects that diversify energy sources, enhance regional stability, and accelerate the transition to clean energy. The ambassador also praised Greece’s expanding role in LNG distribution and renewable energy development.
00:00I think we have a very broad agenda of topics regarding our future cooperation.
00:10Greece is a pillar of regional stability, a traditional ally of the United States,
00:17a critical country in formats of regional collaboration, such as a 3 plus 1 format.
00:24And, of course, a country that is also playing an important role as a stabilizing factor in all regional conflicts, including the Middle East.
00:36A country which sees eye to eye with the United States regarding the role of energy,
00:41and in particular the importance of liquefied natural gas in a region.
00:47We will have a very, very important initiative which coincides with your arrival to Greece,
00:53a very important gathering that is going to take place tomorrow and the day after, with a significant American participation.
01:01Greece is the entry point for liquefied natural gas throughout the entire region.
01:08The vertical corridor is a project of strategic importance for Greece and for the United States,
01:14and we are very much looking forward to further develop it.
01:18And, of course, beyond those issues, there is a broad area of topics we will work together,
01:27bringing in more American investments into Greece.
01:31As we know, the big technology companies are already all present in Greece.
01:35And, of course, strengthening the ties between our two communities.
01:38Next year, you will be celebrating 250 years since the Declaration of Independence.
01:45And it is not lost to me that Greece was an inspiring force behind the creation of your amazing republic.
01:55This is a historic week.
01:56We have not only myself arriving, the P-TECH conference,
02:00wonderful bilateral meetings with all of your ministers and yourself,
02:03but incredible things planned for this conference for Greece to be the energy hub here in the eastern Mediterranean up through the vertical corridor.
02:12We have representatives and ministers from all different countries coming, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria.
02:18It's very exciting.
02:20Cyprus, Ukraine, a historic three-plus-one meeting that will be taking place as well,
02:25and a record-setting 80-plus United States government officials have all descended upon Greece and Athens for this P-TECH conference.
02:34And that is a record for Greece and for the United States.
02:37We have them all here in town.
02:39They're all excited to see you and be a part of, really, political and economic history,
02:45advancing trade and commerce, and also energy dominance,
02:50which will equate to, you know, energy dominance being national security, sovereignty, and border.
02:57So I'm really excited about this.
02:58The conference will be kicking off right now, this morning,
03:01and we're looking forward to doing great things.
03:04This is really going to be the highlight of an already steadfast relationship and alliance between the United States and Greece,
03:11and we're going to take it to new heights together.
03:20We're going to take it to new heights, and we're going to take it to new heights.
