Carli Phillips, Corporate Wellbeing Hub, talks about the importance of mental health in primary industries. Video by Andrew Miller.
Transcript
00:00Yeah, so we know in Australia, one in two Australians will experience a mental illness in their lifetime.
00:06Some of the research I've done in primary industry shows up to 25% of our employees do not have
00:13even one person to talk to, which is very worrying.
00:18And what are the key takeaways or takeouts that people can take from your conversation this morning?
00:24So I think we really want to look out for the early warning signs when people's behaviour changes.
00:29That we want to be able to step in and ask, are you okay?
00:33When the question is flipped and reversed and somebody asks us, it's really important that we can be brave and
00:40be brutally honest and really let them know if we're struggling because that will help to break down the mental
00:45illness stigma.
00:47The second thing really is to make sure that we are connecting with community.
00:53So really important, particularly if we have multicultural groups working for us, that we can connect them with their local
01:00churches, their sports clubs, so they really have social support in place.
01:04And the most important one is to make time for your own wellness.
01:08So say yes to you.
