00:00And James, when your own party leaders warned that your leadership is damaging Labour's brand, as did the Scottish Labour
00:09leader and giving space to the reformed party, as he said, shouldn't Keir Starmer listen?
00:15I think he should listen in as much that there is a desperate need to change direction.
00:20I agree with quite a lot of what John just said.
00:23And I do think that Keir Starmer's leadership is driving the party into the ground.
00:28But that's not because he is a uniquely bad politician.
00:31It's because of the policies that they're carrying out.
00:34And I think if he takes I think he what Paul said about him being in a stronger position now
00:40on this Tuesday than than last week, I think is probably correct.
00:44He has a small bit of breathing room, maybe only as long as two weeks until the by-election in
00:51Gorton and Denton.
00:52And he really has to use that. And I think he has to use that to show there's going to
00:56be a change of political direction.
00:58You know, it's all very well and good saying I'm here fighting for the country.
01:01I'm on your side. You have to fill that in with some content, which means you also have to show
01:06who you're against.
01:08And Peter Mandelson in this case is potentially fantastic foil because he represents the complete corporate capture of British politics
01:16and a project to make the Labour Party not a vehicle for the overwhelming majority of people,
01:22but say for the sorts of people that Peter Mandelson had in his client list of his company, Global Council.
01:29Now, that means that I think the government needs to pick fights loudly on the side of British people against
01:36vested interests.
01:37I would like to see them bringing forward very quickly now saying that they're going to look at the public
01:42ownership of water immediately,
01:44banning second jobs for MPs, abolishing the House of Lords, looking at a wealth tax on the super rich.
01:51I think if they came out with these things very quickly and showed that there was a different sense of
01:56political direction,
01:58not just a few backroom personnel, then maybe people would give it another look.
