00:00But making you carry a cost is different than making the cost disappear.
00:09You don't get to schedule your illnesses around the expiration date on the federal plan.
00:17So this new rural health fund is real and I hope it does some good, but it's temporary and nowhere
00:24near as good as what they've gotten rid of.
00:27But the fund has more of their giveaways to do the benefit of the Trinity.
00:36Imagine, all of you trying to make an honest living while wondering whether getting sick will wipe out what you
00:42say.
00:47Once, when we were having a rough time in the 1992 campaign, and all the commentators were saying,
00:55I shall withdraw.
00:57One of the young people who weren't for me said, don't we have to consider this?
01:05And James Carlos, Mr. Kennedy said, you still think he'd be a good president?
01:12Yes.
01:14You think he'd be a better president than anybody else?
01:17Yes.
01:18He said, we have a withdrawal system.
01:20It's called an election.
01:31I want to thank Mitch Landry.
01:33You'll hear from him soon.
01:34He's going to meet the world of the world of the world of the world.
01:40And he helped go out with the infrastructure program.
01:44I thank the congressional candidate Cliff Johnson, Councilman of the World Bank.
01:52And I want to thank Brandon Presley for being here.
02:07You should know that when I ran for president in 1992 in the primary, my codename was Elvis.
02:24And it was suggested by somebody that they changed it to ego after I became the nominee.
02:34But they named Elvis because I knew the lyrics to all the songs and could stick to Jordan Harris's background.
02:45So I feel right at home here.
02:53Most of my life I was the youngest person doing whatever I was doing.
02:57One day I woke up, I was the oldest man in that room.
03:01And for the life of me, I couldn't take it. I got from there to here.
03:09My staff says I learned to write to tell a few stories, but if I told all my Mississippi stories,
03:15we'd miss the election.
03:20So, let's talk about tomorrow. Not yesterday. And why I wanted to come here to speak for Scott Croll.
03:36Anyone who asks for a job as important as the Senate should care whether everybody who's going to work for
03:45her can build a decent life.
03:50And I hate to say it, but that's the furthest thing in the minds of President Trump for the magnitude
03:56of the crowd in Washington.
04:00Some days I hardly recognize the country I have left.
04:15The corruption. The ego projects. I saw it the other day.
04:26You know, he wants to build an arch over the bridge that will block the view of Washington National Cemetery
04:35from the other side of the street.
04:42And, you know, it costs a ton of money because for him it has to be, A, bigger than the
04:51arch the triumph of the guards, and B, name for him.
04:57So, he came up with a new reason the other day. He said, well, I have to do this because
05:03we have to be competitive in drone defense.
05:07And so, I'm going to store the drones in the arch.
05:10And so, I'm going to store the drones.
05:14No figure.
05:18Never allow me. Within two miles we have any number of military and other properties that could more easily and
05:30more securely store drones.
05:33And you for sure get them out of there quickly.
05:36It didn't explain how somebody was going to fly the drone right out of the arch.
05:47I think about the high gas prices that are the direct result of a not very well thought out attack
05:56on the line.
05:59No light was like it more than me.
06:03The Iranians never became a nuclear power and eventually gave over to a genuine democracy.
06:15We did quite a lot to sabotage their efforts to build nuclear weapons when I was president.
06:23But I never thought we should go to war.
06:28And see a lot of people die because we weren't about to occupy the country.
06:36And you don't start killing people unless you know how you're going to stop.
06:40And they were too many people.
06:42I never thought.
06:46The safe door has been, I never thought that's all.
06:50The safe door has been.
06:53And these terrorists bothered me.
06:57And I've known President Trump a long time.
06:59We used to have quite a friendly relationship.
07:0324 years ago, we played golf. Even then, he believed in these tariffs. He kept saying,
07:10we're the biggest, strongest, richest country in the world. Why don't we just put a bunch
07:14of tariffs on everybody else and stop paying taxes altogether? I said, well, because?
07:23No, he was done with him, not Mr. President. I said, because? These people don't just
07:29eat the tariffs. They just charge the people who buy the stuff, whatever it is. So we pay
07:35the tariffs. And he just, like that, he didn't hear what he didn't want to hear. And he got
07:48these higher gas prices. That's the Iran war in the Strait of Hormuz. And maybe worst of
07:57all this endless us versus them politics. Designed to keep us distracted from whatever the issue
08:09of the day is and what we ought to know about. Why is that? They like checks and balances as
08:22they can find it. They get the check. We pay the balance.
08:36Now, my friend George Bush once said, democracy is self-corrected. We're about to find out if this is
08:53right. Because what is the correction? He's had great preparation. As a prosecutor, he has to deal with evidence and
09:17its consequences.
09:20So this fact-free politics is not for him. The prosecutor knows something Washington needs to learn all over again.
09:33Saying something that's wrong, louder every day than he did the day before, doesn't magically make it right.
09:51So he's asking practical questions. Why can't people afford health insurance or get the care they need? And is it
10:04going to get worse with this great, big, beautiful bill which cuts huge numbers of people off of Medicare and
10:12undermine Medicaid and
10:13put rural hospitals and put rural hospitals at risk? Including eight in Mississippi that are teetering men? Who benefits and
10:27who gets the bill for all this stuff? He has promised not more division but more cooperation. He said, I'll
10:40work with anyone.
10:41I'll work with anyone. And he and a party are very fair and no party. If they want to lower
10:47cost, protect health care covers, help people learn a better living. The willingness to find people to work with is
11:00absolutely essential in a functioning democracy.
11:13If you remember matter, politics is the stuff that dictators live for. You never hear Vladimir Putin talking about who
11:26he's looking for somebody to work with in Boston.
11:31The president really is what I said.
11:37He even admires our adversary in many areas, the leader of China.
11:43He's even bragged on the president of North Korea.
11:52Thank you, healthcare.
11:57There are a couple of things you know about.
11:59The law President Trump signed last year, which the incumbent senator voted for, cuts projected Medicaid spending $5 trillion over
12:13several years.
12:15$11 million of that right here in Mississippi.
12:19It helps pay for care for people with low incomes.
12:23Most of them are working.
12:28For children, for people with disabilities, for people that need long-term care.
12:33It's a lifeline for 700,000 people in Mississippi, including 50% of all your children and 57% of
12:50all your new works.
12:56The Affordable Care Act helped make all that more affordable, with subsidies.
13:07They expired at the end of last year.
13:12Your senator and other members of our party could have extended it.
13:20Instead, they said no.
13:24Now, the original assistance still exists.
13:28But many people are getting less help to pay for the coverage.
13:33So they're paying more for the price of the same policy.
13:41You don't need a Ph.D., you just need common-sense development.
13:53So more and more folks will go without insurance in order to just put fluid on the tape and gas
14:02in a car.
14:04In the health care, it needs more visits to the emergency room.
14:10It could have been handled in a central block or took it before it got mad enough to go to
14:15the emergency room.
14:17So you go to the ER, and then several hospitals will face them closer.
14:27So if they throw, they'll be no ER.
14:33If you listen to all this stuff the Republicans are saying,
14:39it's almost like they use a lot of language in the debate,
14:44which is designed to make us give up trying to understand the issue.
14:50But it's pretty straightforward.
14:55Somebody needs treatment.
14:58Washington has to spend less helping to get it.
15:03The need doesn't disappear.
15:05The medicine still calls money.
15:09A family can go without care and wait until it gets worse or take on death.
15:16That's what they're doing.
15:19They're screaming about current government costs
15:22while privately mailing those costs to you and your families.
15:30Their idea is simple.
15:32They'll make the city and you'll pay the bill.
15:35Yes, we should go after waste and throw all that overcharging.
15:40I did a lot of that work as government.
15:42I did a lot of that work in the White House.
15:46But making you carry a cost is different than making the cost disappear.
15:55You don't get to schedule your illnesses around the expiration date on a federal plan.
16:03So this new rural health fund is real and I hope it does some good,
16:07but it's temporary and nowhere in here is good as what they've gotten rid of.
16:14The fund has more of their giveaways than they're going to contribute.
16:22Imagine all of you trying to make an honest living while wondering whether getting sick
16:27will wipe out what you say.
16:29And that affects whether you change jobs or start a business
16:36or get a paycheck while they're still ready.
16:42Security gives people room to live, room to breathe, room to think about their kids.
16:50Scott is led to reverse the Republican Medicaid cuts to restore extra health
16:56that lowers health insurance premiums.
17:01Protecting that coverage and keeping the hospitals open
17:04has been a part of this campaign from the start.
17:07It's one of the reasons that's what Dan did to do.
17:11And he said he'll work across party lines to do it.
17:14I know it can be done.
17:16In 1997, back in the dark ages when I was pregnant,
17:22we reached a budget agreement with a Republican Congress
17:28that created a children's health insurance program
17:31which now deals insurance to more than 7 million children.
17:35You can believe this.
17:43You decide what you're spending money on.
17:48I personally think that's a better expenditure than whatever it costs us
17:53to put all those white things all over with a rose garden.
18:01And turned it really a hallowed place that Jacqueline Kennedy made more beautiful
18:08and a lot less like the entrance to Little Roger's Bedroom.
18:28We made a lot of deals to get that budget agreement.
18:35Some of them had a lot of work.
18:38Some of them had a lot of work.
18:39Some of them had a lot of work.
18:39Some of them they hated.
18:41But if you build a democracy that has separation of powers
18:50and the rule of law, you might as well subtitle the Constitution,
18:59let's make a deal.
19:11Let them like that because we would have more arguments than they would.
19:16But it doesn't have to be that way.
19:17They can change their policies.
19:20We can move forward together.
19:24That's why we work together.
19:26You get the agreement you can't, you make somebody's life better,
19:30and you go on to an accord.
19:32You get into account.
19:33That's what I appreciate you.
19:39Scott understands the importance of working together.
19:43He has strong convictions, but he's willing to sit down and talk to people
19:47who don't share them all.
19:50That's a useful combination in a seminar.
19:54Judge every health care proposal by that standard.
19:58What happens to the patient, what the family pays,
20:02whether the person is willing to listen, work, and deal seriously
20:09with people who see things differently.
20:11Then make something good happen.
20:14Don't tell people how beautiful that big bill is until you've told them
20:21what the bill will be.
20:25Same question in all the cost-of-living issues.
20:29I know you don't control every price.
20:32Weather patterns matter against overseas matter.
20:36Anyone who promises to fix every price is promising something they can't deliver.
20:41That's right.
20:44The presidents are responsible for the decisions they make,
20:49and Congress is responsible if they ratify those decisions.
20:54You take these tariffs.
20:58The tariff is a tax on imports.
21:01If you're already a wealthy country, you should use them rarely to help deal
21:09with a very specific narrow group of irreconcilable positions.
21:17I did it, but very rarely.
21:23Because a tariff is just a tax on imports.
21:27The importer pays it, but whenever they can, they pass the cost back
21:31to people who impose a tariff.
21:36So even goods that are made here cost more.
21:46And American businesses and consumers carry a lot of the burden.
21:54It's debatable when and where a tariff is serving these appointments.
21:59But you can't pretend Americans don't pay these bills.
22:03And Trump's tariffs are making it harder to put food on the table.
22:10And you get a twofer here too, boy, because you make so much furniture.
22:18You not only pay more for the food.
22:19You pay more to sit down at the table and eat it.
22:33And it doesn't become a discount just because President Trump puts his name in signature room.
22:41Which brings me to the beef.
22:49You're the man a big part of his campaign, but when your incumbent said to her,
22:56if that's without a high food question, she said,
23:00they have so many proteins to choose them.
23:05She later said, well, I mean, people could buy all those that commences meetings.
23:10That's a stocking deal.
23:12I don't know.
23:30They put things back at the grocery store to make ends meet.
23:46I have a higher opinion of the intelligence of our electorate than she does.
23:50And I don't believe we need a senator to explain the existence of chicken.
24:12I come from Arkansas, and it's our number one product.
24:29Understand why something they used to be able to afford is our bleach.
24:34They know good and well that gas prices are higher because of that oil and the oil.
24:42And they know that drought and high feed costs help shrink the beef line.
24:50That rebuilding, it takes years.
24:54And high supplies, upkeep prices, high.
24:59There isn't a button in the office that makes a wet door away.
25:05We need to be honest about that.
25:08But public service has to be more than telling people to get used to this.
25:14Yeah.
25:17Governmental critics are playing the choices.
25:21Listen when those choices cause pain and be willing to change course.
25:26I've noticed that a lot of those negative people from Washington are really brave about sacrifices when somebody else asks
25:33for me.
25:43One other thing, doing the job also means showing up the questions you don't want to answer.
25:49You know how there's been some tough debates when I ran for president.
25:54We had debate after debate after debate.
26:00Your senator has refused to debate, Scott.
26:04Yes.
26:05She confirmed that a few days ago.
26:08And maybe even worse, she's refused to hold town on meeting for nearly six years.
26:14And now, she's asking for six more years.
26:28Surely, there are people in Mississippi and trying to get back to them.
26:36Most people don't want a job to show up to the interview.
26:51Of course, the debates can be uncomfortable.
26:53I have been in some brutal ones.
26:57But so is opening the mail and finding an insurance bill we can't pay.
27:03So is standing at a gas pump and wondering how many gallons you can put in.
27:12The public is dealing with the hard part.
27:16The least our public officials can do is deal with the questions.
27:33The last ten years we've gotten into this terrible habit of treating politics as pure performance.
27:44Now, everybody knows, as a black old slave once said, that politics is show business private people.
27:55So we all have to do some performance.
28:00But the performance, nearly as I can see, is to keep one person, President Trump, happy.
28:09So you have to check out with Donald Trump before answering the question.
28:15You have to wonder why you're paying a senator for a second opinion.
28:32I'm supporting Scott because he will honestly give you his opinion.
28:40And if you disagree with him, he'll have a conversation with him.
28:44And if you can change his mind, he'll change his mind.
28:51But, to do that, you can't put Niagara first.
28:56You have to put Mississippi first.
29:10Before he became district attorney, he did public interest legal work.
29:17He served as a judge and worked at the city possibly.
29:21He spent years in jobs where you need to listen carefully, know the facts, and live with the consequences.
29:30I think it's a good idea that he wants to manage stock trading by members of Congress, their spouses.
29:41You lay on that without hearing which side of it somebody's brokerage account is on.
29:50He has a record to the gamma.
29:52He has proposals.
29:54He can be held to them.
29:59That gives something useful, far more useful than another performance of outrage.
30:09I've always believed that he would do something really worthwhile with this opportunity to give it to him.
30:30And it will affect the Senate.
30:33It will affect the country, the atmosphere.
30:37We've got to get over ourselves and get back to work.
30:53So, this is, I hate to say it.
30:55Say it.
30:56Say it.
30:59President Trump thinks mostly about himself.
31:08He wants to rename the Kennedy Center just because he knew the parents on it.
31:16There's something not right about this.
31:20You know it, I know it, even they know it.
31:35That this gossip owner and plenty of other people are looking after his feelings and his naming rights.
31:50Somebody is going to look after your future.
32:03President Trump told the truth when he said,
32:07she was from MAGA 100% of the time.
32:11He was right about that.
32:14And when he's right, we ought to acknowledge him.
32:23But Scott will be 100% for Mississippi.
