00:00And Jono, many are saying that this is a make or break for the British Prime Minister.
00:04It's not the first time we've heard calls for Keir Starmer to step down,
00:09especially by the opposition, of course.
00:11So what are his critics and indeed also his supporters saying at this time?
00:15Well, I guess what this is, Catalina, is a bit of a credibility battle for Keir Starmer.
00:19It's not just a political one, but it's across the board
00:22because the critics are, well, very simply, they're doing exactly what you'd expect.
00:26They're saying he was warned.
00:27He had access to the intelligence. That's important.
00:30So he either ignored it or he didn't act decisively enough.
00:33And that's going to be the big question.
00:34And Sarah's pointing out we might get some answers to those in the next few days.
00:37It's about judgment. It's not just a process.
00:40It's about the judgment that Keir Starmer had in terms of this appointment.
00:44So you're hearing calls that go, that said this is actually beyond the bureaucratic error.
00:49This is more, can Keir Starmer be trusted with high-level decision?
00:53And that's going to be the question that's on not just these critics,
00:57but also upon the supporters as well.
00:59Because on the opposite side, and to give credit to him,
01:01his supporters are saying, well, look, the system failed.
01:03It wasn't the prime minister.
01:05They're saying his handling of the Iranian crisis, by the way,
01:07has been largely popular with people.
01:10It was stabilizing, which, to be fair, a solid political move.
01:13He listened to the public on that,
01:14which was, I think, for once, he's done something very, very good there.
01:17And supporters are saying that he's politically being weaponized right now as well.
01:21So they're happy in certain issues of it.
01:23The key issue is going to be perception more than anything else.
01:26And I think if this drags on,
01:28and it seems to have been the stain in the copybook
01:30that really is going nowhere for Keir Starmer right now,
01:32but especially if more details come out this week,
01:35this then starts to look a bit like a pattern.
01:37It starts to not look like a one-off anymore.
01:39We can all make errors as a one-off.
01:40You're, unfortunately, a bit more prone to them when you're the prime minister,
01:44and therefore you can be taking the task on it.
01:46So there's internal pressure that will be there.
01:49That could become dangerous, I think.
01:50And it won't just be the opposition who'll make noise about it then,
01:52because he has support,
01:54but I think that that support that he has right now in the UK
01:56is very conditional.
01:58This week is going to be very important for Keir Starmer, politically speaking.
02:01If that support holds, then, you know, bully for him.
02:04He'll move on and he'll continue.
02:06It could start to fracture, which will be not great
02:09if you look at his public opinion for 2026
02:11and the latest polls that are out.
02:13He is 75% unfavorable.
02:15His net rating is minus 57.
02:17That's bad in any books, by the way.
02:19I want just that to be very clear in terms of
02:20he's right up there with Theresa May,
02:22the last prime minister to have scored 57.
02:25So three in four Brits would actually view him negatively right now.
02:28But then you think, well, that's fine,
02:29because that takes into account everybody, doesn't it?
02:31And there's a large swift change right now in the UK
02:34in terms of where support lies.
02:36So then let's delve into the voters who are Labour
02:38and what they think of him.
02:40And unfortunately, it's not a prettier picture.
02:42It's 55% of Labour voters dislike him.
02:44So he's actually more unpopular than popular within his own base right now.
02:48So if you're asking people, is he doing well or badly,
02:50then PM, I think the overall, the resounding answer is that he's not doing great right now.
02:54So there's been some good decisions he's made.
02:56He's running the risk now that there could be MPs who turn,
02:59there could be leadership challenges that take place,
03:01anything like that, and he's gone.
03:02If there's a clear wrongdoing that comes out in the next couple of days
03:05and there's the ongoing fallout from that,
03:07MPs will abandon him and he's gone.
03:09And of course, if he loses control in upcoming elections as well,
03:12there's rebellions that could happen with that,
03:14looks a little bit weak, pressure builds, and he's gone as well.
03:17There's a lot riding on this this week for Keir Starmer,
03:19so I hope he's buckled in and ready to go.
