Table tennis coach Dennis La Rose is once again making a plea for assistance.

Having served the country as a player and also a coach, La Rose says life has turned into a serious struggle.

Vinod Narwani and cameraman Devon Parker visited him at his humble home in Maraval.

00:00It has been a tough journey for Denis Larose, who is in dire need of help.
00:04Having been afflicted with polio as a child, Larose found comfort in table tennis.
00:09He even represented TNT in paratable tennis and became heavily involved in coaching junior
00:14players.
00:14Due to a two infection, his left leg was amputated following what he said was a botched
00:19surgery last year.
00:20He's been literally crying for assistance, saying a few good Samaritans did provide him
00:25with donations following our visit in 2025.
00:28But it is not enough to sustain him, hence the reason for making a repeated plea.
00:32All he gets is promises, and then when you keep on calling people, they're not answering
00:38the phone, they're not responding, they're going to promise.
00:41So far I know sometime in December, the Tapesons Association promised to do a fundraiser that
00:48says about the 14th of December.
00:49I haven't heard anything about that, I haven't gotten any response from them, whether they
00:54do not or do not.
00:55I asked a few clubs for a little help, and they say yes, we will help, and up to none
00:59of
00:59them has responded.
01:01Larose has been trying to seek help from other sources as well, but to no avail.
01:05He is also frustrated by the fact that he keeps getting the same answers when making calls
01:10out to the relevant authorities.
01:11I can't get ironic, if they call the office then they don't get you.
01:15And the Ministry of Social Welfare, no matter what you do, they came here and stood twice
01:21to see me, I asked for assistance, I got no response up to now.
01:26When I do call them, they say I've got to come in now, and we fall in form again.
01:30We fall in form since since 1996 you fall in forms and you're going to them up to this
01:36date.
01:36You're not getting any help from them.
01:38In the Ministry of Sports, I haven't talked to them, but I'm hoping that they have seen
01:42the video and it will help because of me.
01:44I'm teaching Cape Town for 28 years, and the most successful coach, the issue is for sure
01:49in this country.
01:51Currently 64, Larose coaches players only on Saturdays at Carriage Blasters.
01:56That's because he cannot afford to pay for transportation from his home in Maraval to the club.
02:19The sport of table tennis took Larose to different countries where he represented the red, white,
02:24and black.
02:25But that happened some years ago, with the experience remaining etched in his memory.
02:29When it comes to the Paralympics, a few years ago, the past president, we couldn't meet
02:37either.
02:38He started to stop playing.
02:39But that is, now, this month here, the new board is going to be installed soon.
02:45So I'm looking forward to get to meet with them.
02:48I hope I can work with them and they can assist me somehow.
02:50Those willing to help Larose can contact him at 732-5544 or make a donation into his Royal
02:57Bank Savings Account.
02:58The number is 11 followed by 07 times 757-875.
03:04We know now we're on each of 64.
03:06But I hope that's what we do.
