00:02After nearly a month of dry taps, frustrated residents in Johannesburg are taking to the streets.
00:09Protesters are demanding that water be restored immediately and are calling on city officials
00:13to provide clear, transparent communication about what's causing the crisis and when the supply will return.
00:21Well the situation now is our taps have run dry for the past couple of weeks.
00:25Some people since December, some people since January.
00:30It's been on and off supply and for the most part the suburbs of Westeen, Malville, Sophia Todd have not
00:36had water
00:37and we've had enough. Water is a basic human right and we want to be heard, you know.
00:44I pay for my services but I'm not getting service.
00:49It's like going to a cafe and buying bread and milk and going home without it.
00:55Amid growing anger, Mayor Dada Morero says authorities are doing everything possible to restore the water.
01:04We are working together with our communities to ensure that we supply water to our people
01:13and we are fortunate that we are not at day zero because everything that we are doing is to ensure
01:19that there is water.
01:20Some areas will battle but we are trying to push and balance the water distribution.
01:28Protesters want the water crisis declared a national disaster, unlocking urgent funding, resources and expertise to fix Johannesburg's infrastructure.
