00:06designed to guide the historic market through the 2026-2031 period.
00:12The council's plan follows the previous strategy, which included more than £11 million of investment
00:17in the 19th century block shops, which saw the expansion of street food options and support
00:24measures implemented to help traders recover from the pandemic.
00:29Footfall in 2024 exceeded 5.9 million visits, and the new strategy sets out proposals to
00:36maintain momentum, including the possible development of Stack Leeds, a container-style
00:41food and entertainment venue, as well as a hotel and gym on the George Street side of the market.
00:48Plans also include enhancing the family events programme, maintaining the Grade 1 listed building
00:54and supporting traders' digital profiles.
00:57Officials say consultation with traders, customers and stakeholders has shaped the proposals.
01:04Councilors will consider the strategy at a meeting of the Executive Board on Wednesday
