00:00The ever-changing Leeds City Centre could soon see the transformation of this section of Leeds-Kirkgate Market.
00:07Subject to licensing and planning approvals, construction on the stack container-style scheme could be months away,
00:14with food, drink and entertainment offerings being proposed for part of the market's outdoor trading area.
00:21With the formal lease agreement signed, new details have been revealed about what we can expect from the attraction,
00:26which the operator intends to build from repurposed shipping containers.
00:31Under current plans, stacked Leeds would be spread across two floors,
00:35with a covered central plaza seating area providing shelter from the elements.
00:40The plaza would be home to two large digital screens, as well as a stage that would be used for a programme of live music and other entertainment.
00:48Ten street food outlets, six bars and a coffee shop are planned, with a premises licence application already submitted.
00:55If approved, building work could start in early 2026, with a view to the venue opening later that year.
01:02Construction costs would be met by stack, with rental payments generating a new income stream for the council.
01:09The development is expected to create 160 jobs, and it's hoped it will increase footfall
01:14and broaden the customer base for all of Leeds' Kirkgate market.
01:18The outdoor trading area currently has room for a total of 185 stalls, with around 85 being filled on its busiest days.
01:27Should stacked Leeds secure the necessary licensing and planning approvals, the number of pitches would be reduced,
01:32and the freed up space used as a location for the scheme.
01:36The reconfigured area would still accommodate existing and new traders, and would remain one of the largest sites of its kind in the region.
