00:01Savannah Guthrie breaks her silence, pleading directly to whomever took her mother.
00:06Contact the family, let them know she's alive.
00:09Plus, it shouldn't have happened.
00:11President Trump weighs in on the deadly federal agent shootings in Minneapolis
00:15and signals what could come next.
00:17And Nike is now facing a federal court fight
00:20as the EEOC demands records tied to alleged discrimination against white employees.
00:26The stories that matter, clear and credible, from across the country to around the world.
00:34These are your unbiased updates from Straight Arrow News.
00:41Mommy, if you are hearing this, you are a strong woman.
00:49You are God's precious daughter, Nancy.
00:53An emotional plea from the children of Nancy Guthrie
00:56as the 84-year-old mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie remains missing
01:01after what authorities believe was an abduction from her Tucson, Arizona home.
01:05Good morning, I'm Craig DeGrelli.
01:07The urgent search continues this morning for Nancy Guthrie
01:10as concern grows over her health and safety
01:13and as her family makes a direct appeal to whomever took her.
01:17Her mom is our heart and our home.
01:21She's 84 years old.
01:24Her health, her heart is fragile.
01:28She lives in constant pain.
01:31She is without any medicine.
01:34She needs it to survive.
01:36She needs it not to suffer.
01:38In a video posted to Savannah Guthrie's Instagram account,
01:42the family confirms they are aware of reports of a possible ransom letter
01:46sent to a local media outlet and obtained by TMZ.
01:50Authorities have not confirmed the letter's authenticity.
01:53The family is now asking whoever sent it to contact them directly.
01:57As a family, we are doing everything that we can.
02:03We are ready to talk.
02:05However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated.
02:16We need to know, without a doubt, that she is alive and that you have her.
02:25We want to hear from you and we are ready to listen.
02:2984-year-old Nancy Guthrie was last seen at around 9.45 p.m. Saturday night.
02:35She was reported missing on Sunday after failing to show up for church.
02:39Investigators believe she was taken from her bed in the middle of the night.
02:43Authorities found small amounts of blood at her home,
02:45and they are working to recover and review the surveillance footage.
02:49President Trump spoke with Savannah Guthrie on Wednesday.
02:52He says federal forces are now being deployed to assist in the search.
02:55In a post on social media, Trump wrote he is directing all federal law enforcement
03:01to be at the family's and local law enforcement's complete disposal.
03:05As the search continues, Savannah Guthrie, along with her sister Annie and brother Cameron,
03:10delivered one final message directly to their mother.
03:14Everyone is looking for you, Mommy, everywhere.
03:18We will not rest.
03:21Your children will not rest until we are together again.
03:25We speak to you every moment, and we pray without ceasing,
03:32and we rejoice in advance for the day that we hold you in our arms again.
03:40We love you, Mom.
03:41We love you, Mom.
03:42We love you, Mom.
03:43Stay strong.
03:44We love you, Mom.
03:46We love you.
03:46In Washington, the clock is ticking on funding for the Department of Homeland Security.
03:51With the February 13th deadline looming, Democrats and Republicans are locked in a standoff over immigration enforcement.
03:59Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries say they won't support a full-year DHS funding bill
04:04unless it includes new guardrails on ICE and Customs and Border Protection.
04:09Their list includes 10 demands, from mandatory body cameras to limits on agents wearing face masks,
04:16roaming patrols, and warrantless actions.
04:18Democrats say the push for reforms intensified after two deadly shootings involving federal agents in Minneapolis in January.
04:26Taxpayer dollars should be used to make life more affordable for everyday Americans,
04:32not to brutalize or kill them.
04:37ICE is completely and totally out of control.
04:41Immigration enforcement should be just, it should be fair, and it should be humane.
04:49That is not what is taking place right now.
04:52Jeffries argues DHS enforcement needs dramatic changes,
04:56so ICE and other agencies operate like other law enforcement.
04:59Republicans say reforms could be on the table, like training and body cameras.
05:05But they're drawing hard lines on two key Democratic demands,
05:09requiring judicial warrants and banning agents from wearing masks.
05:13No secret police.
05:15I find it amazing that the Speaker of the House,
05:22which is saying there shouldn't be, they should be allowed to have masks.
05:27This group, which needs to be identified more than any other group,
05:31should have a standard much more lenient and hidden than other police forces.
05:39They need identification and no masks except in extraordinary and unusual circumstances.
05:46If there's no deal by February 13th,
05:49the consequences extend far beyond immigration enforcement.
05:52A DHS funding lapse would ripple across TSA, FEMA, the Secret Service and the Coast Guard.
05:59ICE, however, may feel less of an immediate impact.
06:02ABC News reports the agency has access to some fiscal year funds,
06:07plus a 10-year, $75 billion infusion from the already passed Big Beautiful Bill,
06:13meaning ICE operations would continue even if the rest of DHS goes dark.
06:17President Trump says it was his decision to pull 700 ICE agents out of Minneapolis,
06:24a move announced yesterday by border czar Tom Homan,
06:27as the administration tries to dial down tensions
06:30after federal immigration agents shot and killed two people in the city over the past month.
06:35In a sit-down interview with NBC News anchor Tom Yamas,
06:39the president blamed his predecessor, Joe Biden, for what he calls an open border policy,
06:43saying millions entered the country and now it's his job to remove them.
06:48Asked what he's learned from the chaos in Minneapolis, Trump said this.
06:53I learned that maybe we can use a little bit of a softer touch,
06:59but you still have to be tough.
07:00These are criminals.
07:01We're dealing with really hard criminals.
07:04The president called the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Preddy,
07:08both killed during confrontations with ICE and Border Patrol agents,
07:11very sad incidents that should not have happened.
07:15Well, look, I'm not happy with the two incidents.
07:19It's not, you know, it's both of them, not one or the other.
07:23He was not an angel and she was not an angel.
07:27You know, you look at some tapes from back, but still,
07:29I'm not happy with what happened.
07:31Nobody could be happy and ICE wasn't happy either.
07:35But I'm going to always be with our great people of law enforcement,
07:39ICE, police.
07:41We have to back them.
07:42If we don't back them, we don't have a country.
07:44Trump also said five other cities are now on the list for expanded ICE operations,
07:50with announcements expected soon.
07:52When pressed on whether his goal is to deport everyone in the country illegally
07:56or only those who committed crimes,
07:58Trump said the focus is on, quote, really bad criminals.
08:01The interview then turned to polling, with Trump repeatedly disputing surveys showing public
08:07disapproval of his immigration policies, including his handling of the situation in Minneapolis.
08:13The Supreme Court has cleared the way for California to use a new congressional map,
08:19a move that undercuts President Trump's effort to lock in GOP control of the House.
08:24In a brief unsigned order, the justices rejected an emergency appeal from California Republicans
08:30who wanted the map blocked before the midterms.
08:33The court offered no explanation and no dissents.
08:36The decision allows a map that puts five Republican-held seats in play.
08:41The fight is part of a broader mid-decade redistricting battle,
08:44which kicked off after Trump pushed Texas Republicans to redraw their map to gain five seats.
08:50California Democrats and Governor Gavin Newsom responded in their state.
08:55Justice Samuel Alito, joined by Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch,
08:59was blunt about what's driving these maps,
09:02writing in a concurring opinion that the impetus for the maps was, quote,
09:06partisan advantage, pure and simple.
09:09Federal courts don't police partisan gerrymanders, only racial ones.
09:13California Republicans argued race was a factor here.
09:16Lower courts disagreed, saying the record showed a political power play, not racial discrimination.
09:23Governor Newsom didn't hide the stakes, framing it as a direct response to Trump,
09:28saying in a statement,
09:29Donald Trump said he was entitled to five more congressional seats in Texas.
09:34He started this redistricting war.
09:36He lost, and he'll lose again in November.
09:39Nike is facing a major escalation from the federal government
09:43as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission moves to force the company
09:47to turn over years of employment data over allegations it discriminated against workers who are white.
09:54The EEOC has filed a subpoena enforcement action in federal court,
09:59saying Nike may have engaged in a pattern or practice of race-based disparate treatment,
10:04including in hiring, promotions, layoffs, internships, and leadership development programs.
10:09The agency is demanding records going back to 2018,
10:13including how Nike tracks race and ethnicity,
10:17how it selected employees for layoffs,
10:19and details about 16 mentorship and career programs the EEOC says may have been race-restricted.
10:26Nike is pushing back.
10:28It calls the move surprising and an unusual escalation,
10:31in a statement to Straight Arrow News,
10:33and says it has already provided thousands of documents
10:37and participated in the investigation in good faith.
10:40The investigation is being driven by the EEOC's new chair, Andrea Lucas,
10:45appointed by President Trump, who has made DEI programs a top target.
10:49In a statement, she said,
10:51thanks to President Trump's commitment to enforcing our nation's civil rights laws,
10:56the EEOC has renewed its focus on even-handed enforcement of Title VII.
11:00Lucas has been explicit about that shift,
11:04even posting on X back in December,
11:06encouraging white male workers to file discrimination claims.
11:10For now, this is an investigation, not a lawsuit.
11:13But the EEOC is asking a judge to compel compliance.
11:17If the court sides with the agency,
11:19it could open the door to similar probes across corporate America.
11:24Finally this morning,
11:25this year's Olympic medals are worth more than ever,
11:28and we truly mean that.
11:29That's because precious metal prices have skyrocketed.
11:33From figure skating to hockey to curling and bobsledding,
11:36more than 700 gold, silver, and bronze medals
11:39will be awarded at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics in Italy.
11:43The materials inside them have never been more valuable.
11:47Listen to this.
11:48Gold prices have nearly doubled in the last year,
11:51going from about $2,800 an ounce to more than $5,000.
11:54Silver has surged as well.
11:57Now nearly $90 an ounce today,
12:00up more than 180% in a year.
12:03Each silver medal contains about 500 grams,
12:06more than 17 ounces of pure silver,
12:09worth roughly $1,500 on its own.
12:12Gold medals start with the same silver core,
12:15then get plated with 6 grams of gold.
12:17Are you following here?
12:18Pushing their total metal value to around $2,700.
12:22That makes these the most expensive Olympic medals ever produced.
12:27Wow.
12:28So I ask, have you ever heard the expression,
12:31it's worth its weight in gold?
12:33Well, in this case, it's true.
12:35Hey, go USA.
12:37Bring home the gold.
12:38By the way, as for the bronze medal,
12:40it's still bronze.
12:41Plentiful, practical, and a lot less pricey.
12:44All right, here's what we're tracking today.
12:45In New Jersey this morning, Democratic primary voters
12:48are deciding who they want to send to Congress
12:50as their party looks to fill the seat vacated
12:53by Governor Mikey Sherrill.
12:55At noon, union members and supporters
12:57rally outside the Washington Post,
12:59calling on ownership to reverse layoffs,
13:01announced yesterday, and protect the newsroom.
13:04At one, the Pima County Sheriff's Department
13:06gives an update on the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie.
13:09At one also, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt
13:12holds a briefing with reporters.
