00:00Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, Philip Watts greeted sensational cyclists and siblings,
00:05DeNeal Campbell and Akeel Campbell, during a courtesy visit at his office today.
00:10Accompanying the minister was Permanent Secretary, Ms. Penelope Bradshaw-Niles.
00:14Watts, on his Facebook page, indicated that he engaged in fruitful discussions with the athletes,
00:20commending them for their passion, dedication, and continued excellence in the sport of cycling.
00:25The Campbell siblings are scheduled to compete at the elite Pan-American Track Championships,
00:31which will take place from February 16th to the 22nd in Santiago, Chile.
00:36My sister's been here a while, so she's been here since November.
00:42So she's been here for like three or four months.
00:46You've been training with her?
00:47Yeah.
00:48All right.
00:49You think you keep up with her?
00:50She ought to keep up with me.
00:51Oh.
00:52Yeah, wrong.
00:53Yeah.
00:53This is distance rides or on track?
00:59Well, most of our off-season was done on the road.
01:03We just really come on the track to kind of shape up our kind of sense.
01:06Campbell will be focusing on the Omnium, scratch race, and other distance races.
01:10For me, it's not really times.
01:12I race bunch of events.
01:13So qualifying for the bunch of events is Omnium for me.
01:18So, I mean, that's basically the goal.
01:20So, I mean, it's basically just to work on the weaknesses moving forward with the ESSA camp.
01:25He says altitude camps have helped him to close the gap on his competition.
01:29Are you gaining ground on the international circuit?
01:32Yeah.
01:33Yeah.
01:34What have you been doing to improve?
01:35Um, we try to do altitude camps more.
01:41Um, try to build the red blood cells a little bit more so you can have more oxidants to breathe.
01:45Um, that's basically strength, conditioning, but mostly the altitude camps helps a lot.
01:51After just missing out on the Olympics in 2024, he says he's more focused now.
01:58Are you visualizing yourself at the Olympics?
02:00Yes, I am.
02:01I went to go there very badly.
02:03So, you remember the last time just missing out?
02:06Yeah.
02:06Um, it was hard to deal with, but yeah.
02:11What do you think will take you over the line this time?
02:15Um, more focus this time.
02:17Sergio Dufour, TV6 Sport.
