00:01Hi my name is Ty and I am 31 years old. I am black Hawaiian and I've been growing
00:08my hair for a couple years on and off. Growing in afro has been trial and error.
00:13I don't really know much about taking care of my hair and both my parents are
00:17white because I'm adopted so they didn't really know how to take care of hair
00:20either. I would just ask a lot of my friends that were girls and that took
00:25care of their hair and it would just be kind of an awkward, so what do you use
00:29to wash your hair and then I'd be like okay file that away and then try it out.
00:33I started growing out my hair to be a little defiant at my job because I was
00:39told that it was not professional and that just kind of irritated me how could
00:43the way that my hair grows naturally not be professional. So it was a little war
00:49at first and then they got used to it and then people liked it. So a typical wash
00:53day. Washing my hair is probably my favorite part of my shower. I use mixed
00:59chicks his mix, the clarifying shampoo and the daily conditioner. With the
01:03clarifying shampoo it's pretty easy. Everything comes in a pump so I use six
01:08pumps of the shampoo. I feel like that's enough for the amount of hair that I have
01:12and I just lather away and then I rinse it out quick and easy. Then seven pumps of
01:18conditioner. I like using as much conditioner as possible because that's
01:20when I really take my pick. I start detangling my hair and then when I look
01:26like black Jesus. I wash it all out. After I'm done I go to the leave-in
01:32conditioner. Now the directions on the back say that you can actually put the
01:36leave-in conditioner in your hair when it's wet but I actually like it when my
01:40hair is damp. A little bit goes a long way and that just basically ensures that if
01:46I'm wearing my hair curly the curls stay in. They stay fresh, they stay shiny and
01:52there's a little bounce to it when I walk so that feels good. I don't do much when
01:57I'm taking care of my hair. I wash it, I condition it, throw a little something in
02:00it and then go outside because it's hot in Texas and it dries naturally. It is a
02:06part of my identity. When I do get it trimmed it hurts me inside. It feels
02:10different especially if someone takes way too much off and I wasn't anticipating it.
02:14The few times that I've cut it down to a fade I dream about having my afro again. It's
02:24just, I don't know, it's nice. It's a part of me so it's not going away anytime soon.
02:44you
