00:00Watch out world, I'm grown now.
00:04I'm grown.
00:05Hey, naturally friend world.
00:06I'm Nikki.
00:07What's up?
00:08I'm back.
00:09And today on Watch & Go, I'm going to be reviewing the series Grown-ish, starring Yara Shahidi.
00:15My fave.
00:16From the executive producer of Black-ish.
00:18Those are drugs.
00:19It's just Adderall.
00:20I know.
00:21My little brother should be on it.
00:22My dad, too.
00:23A free-form original comedy where upper-class...
00:26I had such high hopes for you.
00:28You did?
00:29You know I didn't.
00:30Meets underclass.
00:31Why didn't you wake me up?
00:33I just missed my class.
00:35Thanks.
00:36Grown-ish.
00:37And then I'm going to be washing my hair using a few of the winners from our 2018 Editor's
00:42Choice product.
00:43The Amica Nice Cream Cleansing Conditioner.
00:46This was a winner for Type 2, but I mean, whatever.
00:49Then I'm going to be using the Sasha Pure Restorative Conditioning Mask.
00:53I have tried the shampoo, and it didn't win, but the shampoo is so good.
00:58You've got to try the shampoo.
00:59It's legit.
01:00And then I'll be following it up with the Maui Moisture Curl Quench Coconut Oil Curl Smoothie.
01:05And then I'm going to just layer on a little bit of gel on my ends with the Trelux Curling
01:11Enhancing Styling Gel High Definition.
01:13Okay, so I'm going to go wash and mask my hair, and I'll be back to tell you guys about
01:19Grown-ish.
01:20Alright, so I've already like washed and permissioned my hair.
01:24I sectioned it off so I can tangle it, hence these raggedy little things here, clips.
01:30I have a water bottle, because I'm going to have to spray my hair.
01:35I'm sure it's dry now, but whatever.
01:36Grown-ish is a series created by Kenya Barris.
01:39It's a spin-off from Black-ish, which is amazing.
01:43And Yara is a star of Grown-ish.
01:46Her character's name is Zoe.
01:48I know you might be saying to yourself, wow, Nikki, Grown-ish that comes on Freeform
01:53seems like, you know, a kid's show, or at least a teen show.
01:58And you're a little bit old to be watching that.
02:00But you can kick rocks.
02:01Your 85-year-old grandma could be watching Grown-ish, and she could be loving her life.
02:05So, that's how I feel.
02:08I'm not anybody's 85-year-old grandma.
02:10Don't try me.
02:11Ooh, this is great.
02:13What makes the show amazing is Chloe and Halle, those singer-girls from YouTube who
02:18are now, like, Beyonce's best friends slash little nieces.
02:21They just add such great comic relief.
02:23Like, the show's already funny, but they just add a whole other level of, like, funny
02:28and realness and, like, girlfriend-ness to it.
02:32Zoe's in college, you know?
02:34She's grown now.
02:35You know what it's like to have responsibility as an adult, or becoming an adult, but also
02:42like, ooh, mom, girl, can you help me with this, uh, ladies' light bill?
02:47Okay.
02:48I don't think those are her issues.
02:50She has money.
02:51She ain't poor.
02:52And you can tell through her fashion.
02:53She's so well-dressed in this whole series.
02:55Her hairstyles are bomb.com.
02:57I want to recreate every single hairstyle Yara has.
02:59She looks amazing.
03:01And her real issues are, like, do I take drugs to help me get through, you know, college?
03:09Um, which boy do I pick?
03:12Um, how do I do well on my internships?
03:15Obviously, our queen mother, um, Elaine Woltzeroff, she wrote an episode.
03:20Um, Elaine, if you don't know, is the former editor-in-chief of Teen Vote.
03:25And Zoe gets an internship there, and that's one of my favorite episodes because that's
03:29where you really start to see where she has to be grown.
03:31She has to make a lot of decisions.
03:32She has a presence on social media because she was dating this, like, you know, really
03:36popular guy.
03:37But she has to decide, you know, how important this internship is to her and what she'll do
03:42to keep it.
03:43It reminds me of a different world.
03:44Okay, don't try me.
03:45I know you're thinking of a different world.
03:47It's a cultural, iconic thing, and, you know, don't even try it.
03:50This is really thick, y'all.
03:52Okay, so I have never tried this.
03:53This Maui curl smoothie.
03:56It's thick.
03:57It reminds me of the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie a little bit.
04:01But I think it's a little bit thicker than that.
04:03But scent-wise, it smells the same.
04:05You know, I just had a baby, so my hair has been shedding and falling out.
04:11I don't know if you guys can see my edges, but these are a little sparse.
04:14I don't need your comments about my edges.
04:17They're gonna grow in.
04:18Don't worry about me.
04:19Worry about yourself.
04:20Worry about yourself.
04:21I'm much more, like, careful when I put a little more love into my detangling.
04:25Just so my hair, you know, can stay in my head and not on the floor.
04:31That would be nice.
04:32I'm not asking for much.
04:34Don't have kids.
04:35Unless you don't have kids, they're amazing.
04:36I love my kids.
04:37But obviously, be aware of the side effects.
04:40So she meets these people in class that have become her friends.
04:43And they're kind of like her little game, you know, in college.
04:48And help her navigate adult situations and help her make decisions about her life.
04:54Especially her love life.
04:55Because two of the people in her little group of friends, she starts to, like, you know,
05:00get a little affectionate for.
05:02One of them, his name is Luca.
05:04And Luca's like your dreaded out, druggy kid, who's like smart and artsy-fartsy.
05:11And then the other one is that guy from like every black teenage movie.
05:15His name is Trevor Jackson.
05:17You know who I'm talking about.
05:18Trevor Jackson was in another movie I reviewed called, what was it called?
05:23It was like stomping and like Greek and they were eating beat up.
05:26I'll link it or whatever.
05:28She has three love interests.
05:29Luca, Aaron, and this guy named Cash.
05:32First of all, his name is Cash Mooney.
05:35He's the Cash cow for the university.
05:37They're all like, oh yeah, Cash Mooney, you ain't got to pass your classes.
05:40You can be a dummy.
05:41And you can just like play basketball.
05:44All our hopes are in you.
05:46Well, Cash Mooney needs a tutor.
05:48And that's how he meets Zoe.
05:49Because he can't just like flunk out of school because he won't be eligible to play.
05:53And we can't have that.
05:54He was like the least interesting character.
05:56But he's not a main character.
05:57Cash Mooney does not sell drugs.
05:59Luca does drugs, doesn't sell them.
06:02And Aaron doesn't sell drugs.
06:04You know who sells drugs?
06:05Vic.
06:06That's who sells drugs.
06:08If you like Black-ish, I think that you'll like this more because I really do like Black-ish.
06:13Because Black-ish talks about certain subjects that are important to us as a community.
06:20It's more about things that affect college kids and teenagers in America.
06:25Which is interesting.
06:26I'm going to now put this Trelux Curl Enhancer Styling Gel in it.
06:30I'm only going to use like a little bit.
06:31I'm not even going to like rub my fingers through my hair.
06:33I'm just running them over the perimeter of my hair.
06:36The outside.
06:37But yeah, that is my wash and go using these Editor's Choice products.
06:41I really, really do like that Miley Moisture Curl Quench Curl Smoothie.
06:45I thought it was really thick.
06:47But it actually ended up working for my hair a lot.
06:50Which is great.
06:51I would give Grown-ish a 4 out of 5.
06:55Usually spinoffs are kind of like, alright, y'all try it.
06:58But they kind of capture what you like about Black-ish and sort of make it for a young adult audience.
07:04Have you ever watched Grown-ish?
